Had my wife’s 40th birthday party here. It was fantastic. We worked with Alex and Jerome who were both great. The Peacock Lounge is a special place in San Francisco. It is an old school private club. It has history which you should ask them about. It has an interior design that has been there longer than most of your guests have probably been alive. This is part of what makes it awesome. It has been here a long time and hopefully it will be there much longer. I was little concerned about what the beverage situation would be as they provide all the drinks and bartenders. I didn’t need to worry. Great range of beer and alcohol covering the classics. If you want something special or out of the mainstream talk to them ahead of time and I imagine they will get you sorted out. They really do their best to take care of the folks having events there. If you need anything just ask, they have probably worked through it before. Some things to know: — You will want to decorate. You can do pretty much whatever you want as long as you are using tape to attach it. String lights and streamers go a long way. — They have tons of bar tables and lounge seats. You can stash the tables or set it up in a sit down format. — Their sound system is just right for the room. Bring a DJ or karaōke and you will be set. — You will probably use email, phone, and in person to sort out logistics. You might be expecting a call back immediately and it might take them a day to respond. Do not worry, they are going to take care of you and your event will be outstanding.

I had my my big three-oh here and I had such an amazing time. I hosted a party with 70 – 80 people and the place was perfect. All my friends had an awesome time too. I love how the bar area is separate from the dance floor. The bartenders and the bouncer were all friendly people. Alex was great host too. He allowed us to decorate the place however we saw fit.

This place is awesome. I hosted a party here with a friend this Saturday and was really happy with everything. Alex and the staff were great to work with. He was really patient with us in working through the logistics, and the staff were super kind the night of the event — from blocking people who weren’t on the invite to cleaning up throughout the night. We brought our own DJ and food, and setting up was very quick and easy. The space itself is perfect if you’re looking for a casual, divey atmosphere — with christmas lights on the booths included. We’ll be back again.

I love the Peacock Lounge! My band an I played a show there last week and had a great time. Alex and the rest of the folks are total pros and were very easy to work with — a great place to put on a show and a fun place to see a show. Highly recommended.

My sister and I meandered in here, not knowing it was a private joint. We got a shot and a beer, were there for 10 minutes, and will probably book it for a party.

I hosted a birthday party for my boyfriend here this past weekend and was really happy with… everything!!! The Peacock Lounge is a no-frills, funky venue in the Lower Haight that harkens back to the days before so much of SF got shiny and fancy and teeming with mid-20s millionaires — which is just perfect, in my book, being as I’m neither shiny nor fancy nor in my mid-20s nor a millionaire. If you want a flashy, modern, squeaky clean venue for your event, this isn’t the place for you — but the price and location for the Peacock Lounge can’t be beat if you want something unique and know your crew will bring the party. Once you turn down the lights, put on some good tunes, and fill the place with your friends, you will have a good time, guaranteed. Alex, the gentleman in charge of event rentals, and the rest of the staff were great and made sure everything went very smoothly. They let us in at 6pm to begin setting up, our guests began arriving at 8pm, and we partied until about 1:30am. In the weeks prior to the event, Alex was easy to communicate with via email and phone and was always available to confirm/discuss details as needed. The venue comes fully staffed — two nice lady bartenders who served up simple but strong and cheap($ 5-$ 8; cash only) drinks; a doorman; and a few guys to keep an eye on things and make sure nobody gets too rowdy. The doorman did a good job of keeping people out who weren’t part of our party(I was amazed by how many random passerby tried to push their way in!!), and when someone who did get in started acting inappropriately, he was escorted out lickety split. You do need to bring your own sound equipment(we rented two 15″ PAs that worked great), provide your own DJ(fortunately, our friends are excellent spinners of tunes), and decorate as desired(you can hang up whatever you want with masking tape; bunting and garland looks great). The space easily accommodated our group of ~75, with plenty of room for mingling and dancing. We even had space to set up a little photobooth in one corner of the main back room. There are lots of tables and chairs provided, and you can set up as many or as few of them as you want. Overall, this is real neighborhood gem and a reasonably priced option for hosting a private event. I’d definitely recommend it, and I sense more Peacock Lounge parties in my future!

went for my friends birthday party and they KICKEDMEOUT for having a wheelchair! I was astonished to say the least… is this really happening in 2013? I use an electric mobility wheelchair and I get around a little bit if I use a cane. The bouncer told me my wheelchair was in the way, so I said(very politely) «ok just tell me where you want me to move it» the front area of the venue was almost completely empty while I moved my chair into the far back corner out of everyones way. Bouncer: «now I want you to turn it around 90 degrees this way» the bouncer says Me: «Im already way in the corner out of everyones way… and I cant maneuver it to turn in a tight area like that» Bouncer: «Well, you BETTER give it a try or you’re gonna have to leave» and at this point I was getting really frustrated and I told him I didn’t like the attitutude he was giving me. So I got a «Get the fuck out this is a private club» talk. I asked, «Are you actually kicking me out of here for having a wheelchair?» Bouncer: «I sure am. And that’s not a wheelchair!» Me: «???» Bouncer: «This is a private club, we can do what we want. Get out or we’re calling the police!» Me: «OK, call the police and tell them youre kicking people out of your club for being disabled» At this point my friend(whos birthday it was) comes over to talk with everyone. I told him what happened but that I was going to leave cause I didnt want to cause trouble on his birthday. He said hed help me move the chair in the position the bouncer wanted it and asked me to stay. He assured me he would talk to the bouncer and work things out. Well, the bouncer told him I had to go cause I was in a wheelchair. So my friend says hes really sorry and he’s never booking anything here again. I asked the bouncer to give me his name and he just sat there in silence. Real professional. EDIT: my friend tells me this was the owner of the club. sad, sad, sad.

Threw a great birthday party here. Alex and his staff are easy to work with and nice as can be. You really can’t beat the value to rent out a venue either. I highly recommend this spot if you want to have a funky environment for a memorable evening.

Peacock is an AWESOME spot for a bash. Had a birthday party there and it certainly rocked. Alex is a great host and is very accommodating. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because premium drinks were $ 8 which I thought was a little steep. Other then that beers are cheap and well drinks are reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place for an event!

Just had my 40th birthday party here and it was awesome. Alex and his team are great hosts. It was really easy to work with them and the party went perfectly. I hope I can find a reason to do another party here again soon. It’s a San Francisco classic.

We have tried phoning the Peacock Lounge to rent the space and have had trouble getting a hold of them. Any ideas of how to reach them? UPDATE — we had a hard time getting their number but after a facebook posting asking friends for a contact number we found a contact. The place is so unique and we had a great party there.

Rented this place for the ten year anniversary of my having moved to America/SF. It was perfect! Love the divey/church basement feel of the place and the bartenders were fantastic. Alex was easy to work with and made sure we were taken care of all night. For the price it’s a fantastic place to throw a party!

The Space: I rented the Peacock Lounge for New Year’s Eve this year and it was an absolutely awesome time! The Peacock Lounge consists of two rooms: The front room has the bar and is about a fifth the size of the back room. The back room is large enough for a good sized party. We had a DJ set up in the large room and quite a number of people dancing through the night with no problem. Through the evening we had about 130 people come through, with maybe 100 people in at any given time. With that size of a crowd it wasn’t too crowded, but definitely a fun atmosphere. The Rental Experience: I worked with Alex from the Peacock Lounge to secure the place and through the entire process he was very easy to work with. He let me know a few key details very early: 1) It’s a cash bar 2) We’d have to bring in our own music/sound system/decorations 3) We’d have to clean up at the end of the night. We knew all this going in so we planned to get their early to decorate and get our DJ set up. They were more than willing to let us arrive 2 hours ahead of time to get everything situated. The people working at that evening watched the door and checked names against a guest list we gave them and were very friendly while serving drinks. Overall: I definitely recommend renting the Peacock Lounge if you’re looking to throw a fun party you can put your stamp on. The staff is very welcoming and easy to work with. The space itself isn’t fancy or especially unique, but that’s the great thing about it, you can make it what you want. Rent it, have a blast.

I’ve lived in the Lower Haight since 1999 and tonight was the first time I visited the Peacock Lounge & Gold Room. Décor is definitely dated, but I liked the ambiance of the front room and all the peacock artwork. Since this is a venue that functions strictly as a hall for rent, I never had occasion to drop in until neighbors threw a benefit evening for victims of the terrible fire that destroyed an apartment building nearby. It seemed like the whole neighborhood turned out, and it was really a pleasant evening. The Gold Room behind the lounge is spacious, but spare. Your basic rent-a-hall, which doesn’t appear to offer much besides tables and chairs. It seems like a good place to throw your private party. The bar had limited choices, but the staff were friendly and the price for my cocktail seemed reasonable for what I got.

Do not rent this space. Ever. Alex Watson is, by far, the worst, most unprofessional person I can ever remember encountering. Despite booking five months in advance, Alex canceled on me three weeks before my party, citing alleged remodeling work that was not going to be finished in time. Thus began my quest to get my $ 450 back. I called, I emailed, I begged, I sued. Alex ignored me. He ignored the sheriff’s deputy with whom he made an appointment. He then paid me part of what he owed me. I called, I emailed, I begged. You get the idea. I finally received the full sum he owed me three months after he canceled. The lawsuit, which claims additional damages because of the higher price at the new venue, was ignored by Alex and will likely be dismissed by the court. You’ve been warned.

I was here last night to see a GREAT local act called wallpaper., who EVERYONE needs to know. It was Alli NoisePop’s birthday, and it happened to be in this bar. If you were there or helped set it up, DON’T GETMEWRONG, THEPARTYWASREALLYREALLYFUN!!!(I was the guy with the purple hat and aviator sunglasses). This actual bar, though, tells a different story. The bartenders were not very nice, the drinks they served didn’t look very impressive at all(smirnoff on the top shelf? Are you serious??), and they didn’t even know how to make a lemon drop martini! Unless there’s an event taking place there and you can’t miss it, don’t give these guys the time of day.

Everyone already knew this place looks like your grandma’ unfinished basement, and that the drinks are watered down, and that they end the party way too early… fine fine, whatever I can live with those things. The big fat 1 star comes courtesy of the fact that we booked this place for a private birthday party /concert a good 2 months before the event only to show up the night of and find out it was double booked. Long story short, we had to share our party with another party and another band. The owner flat out«made a huge mistake.» After talking with several people about this, it’s apparently a common situation at the lovely Peacock. You figure they would’ve learned. Eff.This.Place. Take your party elsewhere, you’ll be glad you did.

I felt like I was in George in Seinfeld at the Calzone shop. I bought a drink at the bar and then put my tip in the tip jar they had at the counter. The bartender looked away right as I put my money in so when he turned around it seemed like I had collected my change and that I didn’t tip him. He gave me a dirty look. I knew better than to stick my hand back into the tip jar… I went to the Peacock Lounge for some free show complete with Kung Fu, head banging and break dancing. Sitting around with the Christmas lights on the walls my friend said she felt like she was at a high school party in someone’s basement sitting around drinking out of plastic cups. Completely agreed. Upside is there was no cover and the drinks are cheap although they are served in plastic cups EXACTLY the way they serve them on air planes. This guy kept looking at the bottom of my cup and I asked him what he was doing. Turns out he was trying to see if ‘American Airlines’ was etched on them. Hah. Thumbs down.

In my long and interesting stint in Nebraska as a child… okay, it was only a year, but it seemed like eternity. If you don’t believe me try going for a week and tell me you are not ready to gouge your eyes out with ears of corn provided by the ever loving Husker fans who have some sort of crazy football obsession I cant even begin to explain… whew, anyhow… one time in Nebraska I went to a wedding reception in the basement of some sort of Czech community hall. It was straight out of the 60’s with«decorations» that would be considered hipster retro these days. There was a cash bar, because my moms side of the family isn’t made of money, you know, and they were not going to provide those Schlitz for free since the jello mold set them back at least $ 20! This place is sort of like that, except that its got soul, lots of soul. And peacocks, lots of those, too. It can be yours for a night for a mere $ 200 and, should you want to play bingo instead of bring in a DJ, there is an old school bingo board on the stage. There are plenty of tables, chairs and booths as well as a cute little wood panel dance floor. This place is rentable for private events only and is not a plush space by any means. The staircase to the women’s bathroom has probably killed a few people over the years and the drink selection is what you might expect from a budget party hall, but all of this just adds to the charm. I suddenly want to procure a peacock so we can dance together to some James Brown. Strange? Cool? Not nearly as strange or cool as the Peacock Lounge.

Good location, open space, cash only, bad drinks, and bad business dealings I came here for a private event the other night. It looked pretty dead from the outside and easy to miss. The bar is in the front room and had a minimal selection(barely 20 bottles counted) — though they did have Grey Goose. Drinks came in tiny little cups and barely had alcohol in it. For $ 6, I’d expect something. Maybe its more of an overpriced beer joint then. The back room had tables and stools and booths lined the wall. So this was a private event. I did see some random people try to wander in. They were told it was a private event and turned to leave, but then bouncer lady let them in. Uh ok, what? That isn’t cool. Not being snobby or anything, but its not right to let random people into a private event. I wouldn’t come back here on any given night. If I come for a private event, I’ll be sober as the drinks aren’t worth my cash.
