My boyfriend and I came here for dinner after our little mini getaway at Napa. It’s street parking so be prepared with your coins or card for the meter! We arrived a few minutes late but was seated immediately. Oh my, let me tell you. this place is so much better than the Cupertino location and the items on the menu are different. The service was exceptional, of course, nothing less expected from a highly rated/recommended restaurant. Must visit if you have not already. For starters, we had the hom hamachi, uni toast, and wagyu carpaccio. The hom hamachi came in a little shot glass filled with hamachi and dressed with avocado, serrano, cilantro, yuzu-soy, garlic, and radish. The uni toast had braised oxtail, and uni on top of a marrow toasted brioche. It was nothing like I’ve had before. It was very rich & flavorful. It’s a must try dish. Something I will definitely be craving in the near future. As for the waygu carpaccio, my boyfriend & I had different opinions. He wasn’t much of a fan of it but I enjoyed the richness of the waygu. It had fava bean hummus, pickled eggplant, tendon, and caper. I ordered the Bone in New York which was 15oz. and my boyfriend ordered Bone in filet which was 12oz. Both cooked to medium rare and it came out to perfection. The bone in new york was marinated with grilled lemon & shallot butter and the bone in filet was marinated in smoked foie gras beurre blanc & watercress. Both entrees were bold in flavor. Our side dishes were the truffle fried potatoes and wild mushrooms. The best side potatoes I’ve ever had!!! Again, another must try if you have not already! We will definitely be making another trip here some time soon.

Disclaimer, I lived in Chicago for many years. When a person starts a review for a steakhouse in San Francisco with a disclaimer that they lived in CHicago for many years, it is like a person who starts off a sushi restaurant review with a disclaimer they lived in Tokyo for many years. Nothing can impress them in that genre because they lived in a city where this type of dining is almost a religion. Having said that, Alexander’s Steakhouse is not bad. Let’s start with the décor. It’s a converted warehouse in the south of market/south beach area, very nice décor. It can be used as a romantic dinner for two, for a night out with the boys, or dinner with the family. Let’s look at the service, it is top notch. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. In the world of restaurants, there are severe motifs. My favorite motif is when the server tells you about the food when they bring it to you. They describe the food, the garnish, the best way to eat it and treat the dish like an experience rather than just sustenance. I noted that they brought over several small apetitizers that was complimentary and described it in detail to us. Definitely, a wonder staff at this restaurant. Their menu is comprised largely of meats. There is the classic steaks and all the variants. Hard to compare these guys to Chicago steakhouses, but it is comparable. Their steaks are juicy and well prepared, it does remind me of the fatty goodness of my past Chicago life. I am biased and can never provide equal grades to anybody other than my precious Chicago steakhouses, but if you’re in San Francisco, craving a great steak and got $ 70 burning a hole in your pocket, then roll into this joint. The other half of the menu is wagyu beef. It is extremely marbled fatty beef in the Kobe(ie. Japan not basketball) tradition. As my family was heading to Japan this summer, we deferred the wagyu menu, which starts at $ 100 for 3 ounces. Overall, the experience was outstanding but not quite memorable enough to justify a $ 1000 tab. I would consider returning in the future, but I cannot say that I crave this place like the way I crave Broadway Prime in Burlingame. Steak is a hearty food, but for $ 150/head minimum, it seems very pricey. If you decide to splurge, this is a good place to consider as you will leave here full!

Been here twice. My first trip here was phenomenal. Had my first Wagyu beef and it was life-changing. Best steak I’ve ever had(Shiga Ohmi). The sides were awesome too! The truffle fries were too die for. Mashed potatoes was very flavorful. The uni toast was unique and tasty. And the edamame was nicely buttered. Round 2, we didn’t order as much, but it was still good. I ordered the bone in filet and the meat was so tasty and tender. My husband ordered the prime rib and I thought it was quite peppery. I felt like the sides that they offered for the night was not as good compared to our first trip. I was impartial to their onion mix, sliced potatoes, and random greens. Their desserts weren’t as good either… nothing really stood out. Their tart was meh. Overall, their steaks are quite tasty for someone who doesn’t normally eat red meat.

This is a place to try once in your life. For the average person this place is very expensive. But, try it at least once. You will be glad you did. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. I ordered the 20 oz prime rib which was thick and juicy. My wife ordered the $ 120.00 steak. We laughed when it came because it was so small. It came on a small plate because it would have looked even smaller on a regular size plate. The steak was the size of a brownie. Looked to be maybe 1 oz. 2 oz at the most. It was very good but soooo small. Good thing I ordered the prime rib because I had to share it with my wife. We ordered many other items since it was a special night for us. Every thing was good especially the strawberry dessert.

I went here for dinner with my friends yesterday and Dila did an amazing job being our waitress. She took really good care of us, I didn’t even mention that we were celebrating anything but she asked and brought out a little something for us. We had an awesome experience and would definitely come back! The food were great and tasty! Everything was perfection; ambience, food and service. Will be recommending it to friends. Thank you again Dila and Alexander Steakhouse team.

Full disclosure, I am a tough cookie when it comes to steaks. If it is not properly cooked I will send that puppy back until it is right. This means I don’t eat a lot of steaks out because unless you are eating a boil in the bag chain steakhouse it does require a deft hand and a keen eye to ensure that steak is the right temperature when it arrives at the table. I thought eating at a high end place such as this I would be safe. I was looking forward to my Omaha sourced prime bone in New York Strip, a steak that commands a near three figure price tag even before sides are added. I ordered mine medium rare which means a red centre, some pink and a well caramelised exterior. I received a steak that was medium well, no red, a tiny bit of pink and it was tough and chewy. The waiter agreed after a little debate about the potential impact of the dry ageing process to replace it for a fresh one. So whilst my fellow diners enjoyed their steaks I had to wait for a new one to be prepared. The steak arrived very quickly but the issue now was the steak was effectively blue with a fully red interior. The waiter did not check back with me but had observed I was not eating my dinner. At the end when everyone else was having their plates cleared he cleared my uneaten steak and subtly informed me it was coming off the bill. I would had liked the opportunity to eat something else or be asked if i wanted something. They offered me a ‘slice of prime rib’ which seemed a bit like a consolation prize(and not a cut of beef I care for) but I was disappointed that they a. couldn’t cook a steak properly and b. thought it was ok for me to basically go hungry. I was also curiously disappointed by their $ 30 old fashioned and thought compared to other excursions here everything was just a little bit crappier. This place was on notice after my last visit here was also a little disappointing but in this case I think Alexander’s is on my blacklist now. I’m guessing those Michelin people were not misplaced in stripping them of their star in 2014.

Bookmarked this for awhile and finally got a chance to try this steakhouse. We celebrated my friend 55th birthday. The steaks list is impressive. All the steaks and prime rib cooked perfectly to order, the sides are decent, desserts are also decent. Nice wines, good cocktails, and great after dinner drinks. We had good service. Overall, an excellent meal and birthday dinner for my friend.

Disclaimer: I came about roughly 3 – 4 years ago. I guess I never got around to writing a review. Hamachi shots were the best thing I ate here. My bf at the time had made a reservation and informed the staff we were celebrating a birthday. We ordered the tomahawk to share since its ginormous. It wasn’t the best piece of meat either of us had so it was underwhelming. Service was aiiite. Maybe they didn’t pay us much attention because we looked like children. At the end of our dinner they brought out the check with the standard cotton candy. They forgot that we were celebrating a birthday so no complementary desserts for us. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it so we just paid for our dinner and left.

I had such a spectacular experience here and enjoyed it very much. Classy. Casual attire. I must say, it is my current favorite steakhouse. My husband and I were served by Ian, and he was friendly and funny. This restaurant has a good ambiance and all staff are very professional. There is a section near the kitchen where servers would get in line to pick up dishes to bring out. This restaurant is unique to me, I really enjoyed their small complimentary dishes that go well with what we ordered. I loved the fact that each time a dish was brought out to us, it was explained to us in details and our silverwares were given to us according to what we eat — 5 stars! We ordered Hon Hamachi shooters. It usually comes in 6, but we ordered 2 first and later we ordered 2 more. How to eat this? It was presented to us in a small shotglass, we’d scoop everything in the glass and eat it in «one shot». The flavor was exposed to me at the end right before I swallow. Very good that we had to have another. A seaweed cracker and small«salad»(I didn’t pay attention to what this was called but theres a picture) were the complimentaries and it tasted quite interesting. Seaweed cracker tastes just like how it sounds. Next, we ordered a Soba Noodle. We sort of expected it to be a bigger portion, but it was actually little — not that it’s a bad thing. The server brought this dish out as just the noodles itself and a teapot, which he poured the soup into our noodle bowl. Funny, my husband thought he was pouring tea. But the server explained how the soup was marinated with just beef meat with no fat. Mmm was it delicious! Soup was extremely flavorful. 20oz Prime Rib was a yummy piece of meat! It was surely comparable to The House of Prime Ribs, or it may even taste just like it. The piece was so big, we decided to share it and it fed us well. We paired it with a Merlot red wine, excellent choice! Lastly, we ordered Soufflé for dessert and to our surprised, we received a complimentary little dessert before our main. I cannot stress enough how mouthwatering this dessert is. Love love love it! Right when we thought our dinner was over, before the bill came out, we received 2 tiny macarons as out last complimentary! Our first time here, will definitely return when get the chance. We were extremely satisfied and happy from the beginning to the end of our dinner. I would highly recommend this place, it’s a must try!

My boyfriend and I came here for the wagyu. However, everything else including the wagyu was beyond expectations! We had 4 hamachi shooters to start with. Ordered the Marin Roots Greens based on our waiter’s recommendation. It was heavenly!!! We orders the 8 oz filet mignon and 6 oz of the sher double blue Waygu. Both was to die for! Service of course was terrific. The extra snacks/bread/seaweed in between courses were also little surprises :). How can you say no to fancy steak?

Alexander’s is a lovely high end restaurant to impress a date or clients, but falls short in a lot of areas. We ordered the bone-in ribeye to share amongst two people(I wasn’t very hungry) and it was smaller than expected. The menu said 12 oz, but I believe that the bone was considered part of that weight. The steak was cooked to a PERFECT medium-rare, and was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The Uni toast was delicious, and one of my favorite dishes that I tried. The hamachi shot was good too, but not something I’d personally get again. We offered the potatoes and spring vegetables(a mixture of mushrooms, beans, etc) sides, and neither was very good. We were told they were«family style for sharing», but the portion was the size of a small bowl. They were pricey too, at $ 16 for the spring vegetables that were soaked in sauce. I definitely would not get any sides again. The cool part is that they have«courses» of bread throughout the meal, so they were 3 pieces of different types of bread. We also got free lemon juice and a free bite-sized cake because we were celebrating a birthday — that was very sweet of the staff. Service was attentive and formal. Empty plates never sat longer for a minute on the table. Overall, a decent meal but I wouldn’t say the cost is worth it. Give it a shot if you want to treat someone to impress them, though!

Good news: the food is still delicious. Bad news: they no longer serve the famed tomahawk chop. It’s been replaced by the 26 oz porterhouse. We ordered a whiskey flight, uni toast, beef tartare, a side of cauliflower, two porterhouses, and two 3 oz orders of the Hyogo Kobe. Obviously we didn’t finish everything, but not for a lack of trying. The Hyogo Kobe was served with a really cool salt selection from all over the world — tasting the differences in each of them was a really fun exercise. My favorite was the Welsh Vanilla! The service was excellent and the food was delicious, so Alexander’s gets 5 stars from me. I’d love to come back and try their beef tasting menu!

*VALENTINE’S DAYEDITION* Now, don’t get it twisted, the significant other treats me like a MF queen all day erry day. And frankly, I would’ve been just as satisfied with dining at home eating take-out food. We decided to make this day extra special only because we had other momentous events(aside from Valentine’s Day) that we wanted to celebrate — my new job and the significant’s whopping 110% bonus. Oh yeah, work hard-play hard, people. We decided to book this place two months in advance, just to guarantee our spot for the 14th. Back then, we were just bookmarking places well in advance, only to end up at this fancy four-dollar sign restaurant. At first, we were thinking to ourselves, «Are we crazy?» Is it even worth spending $ 100+ for a slab of steak that we could otherwise grub on at Texas Roadhouse? After some thought, we both agreed to move on with the reservations here at Alexander’s only because we rarely eat«fancy» and after busting our arses at work, we deserve some sort of lavish dining. TASTINGMENU: As we had expected, Alexander’s notified us that their Valentine’s Day Menu will encompass an eight-course(yes, EIGHT) tasting menu and a selection of one of their premium steak cuts. + For my cut, I decided to try their 8 ounce FILETMIGNON topped with chives and embodied with Bordelaise in medium rare($ 152.00) The steak was, well. impeccable, as expected. I mean, for $ 152, it better be damn good. Each bite was luscious in flavor, with a blend of both sweet, salty, and proteins. The medium rare was exquisitely juicy and not overly bloody. The additional courses were as follows: + SQUIDINKCHIP. It honestly tasted like a regular baked chip topped with a variety of mini grains. I automatically forgot this was even made by squid ink as the flavor was barely there. It was so good the significant and I asked for a second chip. OHYEAH. +SASHIMI. A slice of Tuna that encompassed an immaculate fresh taste of luscious rare fish. Topped with a droplet of soy sauce, but I think it would’ve tasted just as good without it. + STEAKTARTARE. Topped with baby Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, and Mushrooms. At first, I was second guessing if it was even safe to each such a dish. When you think of steak tartare, you think of completely rare steak(E. Coli, much?). However, I know that Alexander’s wouldn’t commit such a heinous crime and simply feed their customers any rare meat. The preparation for this dish was quite charming and meticulously plated. The steak itself was fresh and appetizing, nothing overwhelming. The Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, and Mushrooms were a great addition to the steak and incorporated additional green flavors that completed the dish. + FOIEGRAS. With Chocolate Confections. Hmmmm, Foie Gras with chocolate? Sure, why not?! Sounds like an odd combination, but to be perfectly honest, it blended great together. The rich flavor of chocolate combined with such a divine foie gras makes for a hearty tummy, for sure. If you’re sensitive to sweets, I suggest just eating the Foie Gras by itself as it already contains a variety of sweet flavors within. + SCALLOP. Topped with a decadent creamy dressing. Con: It only encompasses ONE scallop. =( + GOUDACHEESE. I loved how it’s prepared crispy. Topped with basil to add a hint of herb-like flavors. Exquisitely prepared. + GREENTEACHEESECAKE. With Rose flavored bits and Chocolate Wafers. Now I wish they had this available at the Patisserie. This cheesecake was fluffier and softer that your usual cheesecake which is more dense in texture. One of my favorite dishes of the night. #Winning + WHITECHOCOLATEWITHPEPPERCORNS&CHOCOLATE/MINT TRUFFLES. Each bite of the the white chocolate chips was exciting as it was filled with hints of peppercorn to liven it up a bit. When you think of peppercorn, you think of spice, however, that wasn’t what I got with this treat. The spice was really subtle, suitable for anyone who’s sensitive to spices. The truffles were exquisite, but nothing really mind blowing. These truffles are available in the Patisserie in Palo Alto if you’re interested in giving it a try!!! In addition, I ordered a glass of Radio-Coteau Pinot Noir($ 27) — a local wine from Savoy Vinyard-Anderson Valley. Encompasses a fruitful blend of floral, herbal, and spicy elements including potpourri, citrus zest, and licorice. For appetizers, the significant ordered SHICHIMIFRIES $ 14 — Sundried tomato — tonkatsu aïoli, shichimi. Gave up fries of any kind for Lent so I, unfortunately, was unable to try such a delicacy. womp womp. SERVICE: Our server, Yahir, was exceptional. Despite how busy it was, Yahir was able to cater to our needs throughout our dinner, whether it be a more in depth explanation of our dish, additional utensils or water re-fills. He also had a very lively personality and was a pleasure to talk to. Kudos, Yahir! Overall, a lovely experience here and hoping to come back soon to try their new Tasting Menus!

I like my meat medium-rare please. That was how I requested my prime rib but it was very bloody upon cutting into it. Also, cutting through it wasn’t very smooth. It had quite a bit of fat running through the meat. However, it was still meaty and tasty. Hamachi shooters were cool and refreshing, but not so easy to shoot. Mashed potatoes and fries were also good, but this girl can only consume so many potatoes in one sitting. Good thing Mr. Joy can and will eat through an entire field of fries. For dessert, we had the soufflé accompanied with three miniature macarons. It was a little heavy for a soufflé, and almost too much of an egg flavor, for lack of a better description. The macarons were on the dense side too. The cotton candy was a fun and whimsical touch. Service was delightful. Mr. Joy had made reservations and we were whisked to a cozy, comfy booth. Plus, I am appreciative of any waiter who offers to take a picture of you and your dining companion(s), because 1) it takes time out of their normal duties, 2) shows they’re friendly and engaging to their clientele. I probably would have liked this place more if I had chosen one of their steak options.

My friends wanted to take me out to nice steakhouse for my birthday, so we ended up coming here yesterday. To be honest, I was a little disappointed… The restaurant itself is pretty nice. The décor is modern and elegant. You know it’s a fancy restaurant when your server is fully dressed in a suit and tie. I thought he was the manager when he first approached our table… For the appetizers, we ordered the Hamachi Shots and the Edamame. The yellowtail shots for pretty good, but not the best I’ve tried. The fish tasted fresh but I think it should’ve been cut into smaller pieces so it’s easier to take it as a shot. The flavoring just wasn’t there either. The edamame was one of the highlights of the meal. It was tossed in truffle butter and I have to say, it was the best edamame I’ve ever had. I was a little sad that they took out the Tomahawk chop and replaced it with the Porterhouse. Disappointed that I would never try it, I opted for the Dry-aged T-Bone. The steak was tender and the perfect medium rare, but just not the best steak I’ve had. The peppercorn sauce on the T-Bone was alright, but the leek fondue paired well with it. I would think that a fancy steakhouse would at least cut out the HARD fat of the steak… But there were two incidents where I chewed on hard fat, and I had to spit it out. We had the Shichimi Fries and the Wild Mushrooms as our sides. The sun-dried tomato sauce for the thin fries was unique, but it just okay. My favorite dish of the night was definitely the mushrooms. They were cooked and flavored perfectly. For dessert, we ordered the Apple. It was an apple tatin with a special kind of ice cream. It was good, but small. I think the most disappointing thing of the night was that they didn’t serve us cotton candy at the end. I don’t know if it’s because we ordered a dessert or they don’t do it anymore. The small complimentary dish from the pastry chef they did us tasted kind of gross. Overall, it was a nice experience. They gave us small complimentary items during the meal like the nori cracker and liver mousse. The service was pretty good. I just think that it’s not special enough for me to come back. Everything just wasn’t amazing.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have probably heard of Alexander’s Steakhouse. The Lamborghini, Chanel, and Rolex of steakhouses, Alexander’s is more than just a place where diners drop hundreds of dollars on premium cuts of beef. For me, it was also an immersive journey and a guided study of beef in which I had the opportunity to explore different cooking techniques, textures, and flavors. My dining experience at Alexander’s began with the Hamachi Shot($ 30) from the Bites menu. Each shot glass contained fresh hamachi sashimi with a slice of avocado, serrano pepper, cilantro, julienne radish, and crispy garlic mixed with yuzu-soy sauce. The dish was not only pleasing to the eyes, but also to the mouth. I loved the complex dynamic among different textures, from the tender hamachi to the creamy avocado. The Dry-Aged Kagoshima Wagyu($ 30), also from the Bites menu, was such a tease to the mouth. A thinly sliced, beautifully marbled Kagoshima wagyu was wrapped over marinated eryngi mushroom. I could taste the fire from the piece of beef that was seared in binchotan(Japanese white charcoal). This juicy, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu roll was rubbed with yuzu to add an interesting citrus flavor. The final item from the Bites menu, the Uni Toast($ 9) truly highlighted Alexander’s unique incorporation of Japanese cuisine at a steakhouse. Atop a buttery, marrow toasted brioche slabbed with thousand island dressing laid creamy uni and braised oxtail with thinly sliced seaweed. The buttery, creamy flavor from the brioche, uni, and the thousand island dressing was a bit excessive for my personal preference, but the extremely tender oxtail balanced out the flavor with its savoriness. Don’t expect plain lettuce and croutons when you order a salad at Alexander’s. The Marin Roots Local Greens($ 14), served in a delicate ceramic bowl, contained fresh greens, onsen egg, and crispy squash chips tossed in green goddess dressing and seasoned with yuzu-kosho. The egg yolk dripped all over the salad to provide creamy texture that balanced well with the crispy squash chips and crunchy greens. The main act at Alexander’s, of course, was the steak. Ranging from filet mignon to porterhouse to wagyu, Alexander’s steak menu boasted an impressive collection of cuts and varieties. Our knowledgeable waiter recommended the Tajima F1 from Australia($ 48 for 3oz) based on our predilection for leaner cuts. Because this medium rare steak was so lean, I would recommend getting a more marbled cut if you want the much desired, melt-in-your mouth texture. We were given a tray of 12 different salts from around the world to pair with the steak. I wished the beef had been seasoned even more lightly so that adding additional sodium wouldn’t seem overindulgent. Alexander’s offered a wide variety of sides, all of which highlighted a unique blend of flavors. While a bit too sweet, I enjoyed the Butternut Squash($ 12) with garlic, harissa, and toasted pepitas in maple vinegar, as well as the Wild Mushrooms($ 16) featuring at least four different types of mushrooms sauteed in shiro shoyu with yuzu and topped with chives. The thin-cut, extra crispy Shichimi Fries($ 14) was served with a side of tonkatsu aioli with sun-dried tomato. For a sweet ending to the savory meal, my guest and I shared the Carrot Cake Soufflé($ 16). Because the soufflé is made to order, it took about 15 minutes for the dessert to arrive. The waiter dropped a generous pour of orange whiskey sauce and a scoop of cream cheese ice cream into the soft, fluffy soufflé. The intensity of the orange whiskey sauce unfortunately overpowered other flavors in the soufflé, but I still enjoyed the fluffy texture that reminded me of cotton candy. The dessert also included a pair of pecan shortbread topped with a dollop of cream cheese and real carrots. Alexander’s Steakhouse is by no means an everyday, neighborhood steakhouse given its price tag, but add it to your list of places to dine for special occasion.

Prefer the service and quality of food at the Cupertino location. Hamachi Shooters: A+ Perfectly fresh hamachi. Silkiness of the hamachi is complimented by truffle ponzu and single slice of jalapeño. Small dab of avocado for texture. Heaven with each bite. One of the most memorable items of the night. Uni and Braised Beef Toast: B Would have preferred the uni by itself as the showcase. Sweetness from the beef braise and sauce was too overpowering. The uni was delicious. New York Strip: B Smidgen overdone from my requested midrare. Texture was a bit tough compared to the multiple times I’ve been to the South Bay location. Cotton Candy: A+++++ Who could hate free cotton candy? Especially if it is freshly spun? The overall experience was positive. Service was fantastic as usual. Food this time was a little lackluster, but maybe we just had an off night. They say consistency is key so your mileage may vary.

What can I say? At Alexander’s Steakhouse you gotta try their steak. Was there a few weeks ago for a dinner event. I had their miso soup, filet mignon and dessert duet(see my pic). The miso soup was light. The filet was cooked perfectly and the right size(not too big but not too small either). I don’t know how many oz.‘s was it but it sure was pretty substantial as I had had much smaller filet mignon at other less refined steakhouse before and the flavor wasn’t nearly as good as the one here at Alexander’s. The dessert was also done perfectly; a tiny creamy chocolate brownie paired with a tiny Meyer lemon ricotta fritter that had pumpkin spices on it. The portion was also just right for me; when indulging, I don’t need to over indulge to appreciate a decadent dessert. Very well done! Now I just need to make another trip to their dessert shop in downtown Mountain View soon for more holiday desserts!!!
