I’ve had some of their cookies from their German foods section, and those cookies were amazing. I decided to go try Shoop’s for lunch. Not a fan! Food: I had a salmon sandwich. It was plain. I felt as if I could have made something similar at home, if only I had some cured salmon. We also ordered the German potato salad, which had bits of fatty bacon and tons of vinegar — it tasted sour and oily and the temperature was inconsistent. Parts were hot and parts were lukewarm. Indicates that it was just nuked in the microwave. Ambiance: Our waitress was a stand-offish and did not pay much attention to us. We waited for our check for a long, long time. Also, very tight quarters. Overall: The store section of Shoop’s is super cool. Who doesn’t love German candy? But their food was underwhelming, and their service even more so!

Great find of the weekend! Literally was just driving down Main St looking for something different to hit up. Normally, I end up at Urth because it’s the easiest choice. So glad Shoop’s popped up on my Unilocal page! Sitting in the plaza right across Urth, it’s half café and half market with many European goodies. It was fun walking around and looking at all the different things they have from sardines to digestives and Haribo gummies. My bf just came back from Europe and he had a great time finding things he loved to eat while there. The café itself is small with limited seating so a small party for brunch is preferred here. It’s a great spot to bring a book and have a solo meal as well. We got seated immediately and I opted for the Patrick’s wrap while my bf got the clevelander. My wrap was superb! I enjoyed every bit of it and loved the side fruit it came with. So used to restaurants that pack on fries with every meal so this was refreshing. I had a small bite of the clevelander as well. Definitely a heavier entrée but great nonetheless. Really looking forward to my next visit and getting either their famous blueberry pancake or one of their popular salads!

I went here for the first time today, and I’m already looking forward to going back. There are just too many mouth-watering items on the menu to choose from, and for Santa Monica, it’s hard to beat the prices! The café is small(probably only enough seating for 25 people tops), but my boyfriend and I were seated right away on a Sunday morning. The Body Wrap I had was tasty and the banana pancakes I shared were out-of-this-world! I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh all the ingredients were. The latte I had was just average, but I’ll give this place a pass on that; if I wanted spectacular lattes there are several coffee shops nearby I can go to. If you have the time, or are just waiting for a table, I suggest checking out all the candy and other European items they have in their store. It’s a fun way to waste a few minutes.

Gravlax was pretty good, but the real gems are all those European yummies!!! They have actual imported roggebrood from NL, along with myriad other German and Scandinavian treats.

This place is amazing. There is nothing nicer than a local owned business. With owners that actually run the place. I only come here to get Dutch food. They have amazing dutch cheese. Currently they have a mustard seed cheese to die for. Also one of the view places that has calf liverwurst. I also get candy, condiments, and herring. I have had sandwiches here and they are amazing. I just love this place but I sure do miss your weho location.

To be honest. at first I really don’t like the concept of bacon in a pancake. It kinda gross me out, mainly because I prefer the traditional pancake with strawberry and maple syrup. but I stand corrected. how can I be so wrong all this time? the combination of fluffy and buttery pancake plus the savory and crisp of bacon creates a very harmonious unique flavor… man, it taste so damn good. but it would have been a 5 star experience if the egg was not bland. It was lacking of flavor. the coffee was OK… but hey! Cheer up. there is a free refill. So it’s all good! Lesson learned. always take the risk and be adventurous with the food. so much time and chances are wasted because of misconception.

Moving to the states the most I miss from back home is the chocolate. I am not a fan of American kikats and their hershey based chocolate. This place has every European chocolate you would think of. Milka, merci, Daim, mozart salzburg, and of course the kitkat you would find everywhere else in the world. I also had breakfast wraps from here a few times, I love their wraps. They have extremely nice employees too, I am always happy to pass by.

This place is so cute and yummy! The service is amazing and the menu has a good selection of foods! The only bad point is that the omelet was on the flavorless side and that the seething is limited to 7 tables and a bar!

Excellent brunch place! I had the Roxanne Omelette(mushroom, onions, tomato, basil, and Mozarella). Typical omelette. It was alright. I wish it had more mushroom and onion. The seasoned potatoes that came with it was excellent. I much preferred the dishes my party ordered instead. They had the Salmon BLT and the Pancakes. The Salmon BLT was huge. They were really generous with the smoked salmon. It also had thick slices of bacon. It was a pretty mouthwatering sandwich! The pancakes were huge and so light and fluffy! Free refills on coffee. The man who refilled our drinks was really attentive, whereas the woman who took our order didn’t really check up on us until it was time to pay, but we didn’t really need anything. I’d definitely come back and try their other items! It’s a small café, but we were seated pretty quickly. The other side of the place is a market. They sell meats and European goodies. Limited parking out front.

Been going here for years! This is a local and really good place for breakfast or lunch. I often turkey scramble with fruit for breakfast. Their Cobb salad is one of the best in town. Add a chicken breast to really make a solid protein packed lunch. The also have a big selection of European foods, snacks and candies.

WHOA! My co-worker would not stop raving about this place and their salmon. While his taste in food doesn’t exactly match mine, I couldn’t agree more. I ordered the Salmon BLT Sandwich yesterday and loved it. The tastes go perfectly together… you get a little bit of savory, sweet, with fresh veggies and a perfectly toasted baguette. For $ 13 they load that sandwich with salmon and bacon so that every bite has a perfect ratio of meat and veggies. I had to get the sandwich again today for lunch after thinking about it for the last 24 hours.

The Dude of Food really likes this place. The grave lox is awesome. They have some great products for sale in their market too. The owners are really nice and the staff is great. They have some great products here. Makes me miss Germany every time I go.

Go and explore their mini Swedish market!!! We have gone there several times and have tried nearly everything and haven’t been disappointed yet. Kind of small, though. Limited seating. Try their Jason sandwich but I highly recommended their smoked salmon sandwich with ROASTEDSOURKROUT!!! It’s roasted with garlic– makes all the difference in the world. Go!

Waited 30 minutes for a table because they bumped us to seat a regular who just walked in. Reward loyal customers, sure; not at the expense of new ones

I crave the banana pancakes. Soooo good. They also have an interesting deli case — this Philly girl loves to see the Taylor Ham(pork roll) from time to time

Came here after viewing the pancake pictures I saw on Unilocal! The food was just ok. The pictures looked a lot better. Pancakes were huge, fluffy, and on the dry side. The chicken breast was extra dry. I enjoyed the coffee and eggs. I would come back here, but would definitely try another Dish. The seating is minimal and tiny little tables.

I think I need to try this again because nothing about my visit here was outstanding like the review claims. The cashier was giving me recommendations for lunch and I said I wanted something cold for lunch and she recommended the Shoop Deli Sandwich with fruit. I ordered it. The sandwich was fresh and the baguette was good, but nothing about this was great. I felt that it was missing vinegar or something… it was pretty dry. It tasted no better than a deli sandwich from elsewhere. The setting is café style and it was very busy on a Tuesday afternoon. There is a small parking area for free but it was full the entire time I ate. The service was OK… I never got checked on until I went to the front to pay. Not sure if I’ll go back

Maybe some of the beat pancakes I’ve tried. However I’m docking a star for number one not having REAL maple syrup. Number two not serving pancakes during the week past 11:30. Their main asset is the pancakes so it’s just illogic they won’t serve their best item all day long. I had to take my pancakes home so I could lather them up with real Maine maple syrup. I can’t bring myself to eat imitation maple syrup that’s full of chemicals and corn syrup. Yuck ! So sad they can’t provide the real thing. I would gladly pay more money for it and I’m sure the majority of the health conscious neighbors in Santa Monica would too.

I really do love this place. Went here again today when I was down on Main St. We hadn’t yet decided where to go but passed several new places(pretentious with a chalkboard menu, ramen) and both were empty. It was a sunny, windy, glorious day, and it seemed like the type of Saturday you’d want to eat eggs, hearty food, good coffee. So we again went to Shoop’s. What I love is the food. It reminds me of the kind of food California used to serve: big portions of omelettes, great coffee, bacon, avocado slices, delicious fresh salads, but all served with friendliness, and at reasonable prices. And my Salmon BLT was exceptional: thick sliced bacon and smoked fresh salmon on a roll with avocado and mayonnaise and a side of sliced pineapple. We were packed into a corner table, but the waitress was friendly and prompt and the crowd was also friendly and nice looking. In this part of town there are many fit people and nice looking ones, both inside the restaurant and walking past outside. The«European» or «German» part of this deli is slight, visible mostly in some imported candies and beverages. The restaurant is truly Californian in its freshness and casual vibe.
