Make sure to get a slice of pie with your coffee, they’re delicious. I also love the selection of magazines they have for sale here, makes for a perfect place to kill an hour or three. Great place!

My new favorite coffee shop in SF. Quiet, neighborhood setting. The art work isn’t exactly my ‘thing’, but the atmosphere is excellent, and the lattes are even better. Friendly

Great in some ways. Lovely patio. Staff is usually friendly — sometimes it hit or miss. But it really irks me that the owner apparently thinks stocking HONEY is too much of a luxury. Too expensive. Really? A coffee shop that sells lots of teas?

I had a really amazing café breve here, made perfectly and snappily. They have a huge variety of magazines and literary and art publications, some really cool reading material for sale, and a nice open room with plenty of seating and free wifi. It’s also right beside a bookstore so you can wander over with your coffee. Snack and pastry offerings were a little paltry, so if you want a meal you’re better off with a café, but they had a few croissants and a good selection of teas.

Great atmosphere. Free refills. Very friendly baristas. Good for lounging, reading, lap-toping, inside or out.

This could be such a great place if only the snooty baristas understood that they have a public facing job, smile a bit, and do not be so stuck up – I actually was interested in getting a coffee and muffin — instead of being«impressed» that you are a barista at Downtown Subscription.

This may be a community fixture, but they are a bit out of touch with their product. The coffee is awful and the grounds pushed way too far. The prices are high relative to the quality. If you want people watching and fancy euro magizines this is your place. If you want a good cup of coffee go elsewhere.

rude as hell, snobby baristas and coffee that’s a little burnt I ordered a Macchiato to-go and one of the baristas asked me if I even knew what was. Get over yourself, you’re literally serving bean water.

Needing the Downtown Subscription phone number, I ended up on Unilocal, and happened to read the reviews. This place is great, and I’m there almost every morning. I noticed there are some negative comments about the people behind the counter; please know they all refer to quite awhile ago when there was a very unhappy person working at Downtown. Do not judge the service from these old reviews! Everyone at Downtown Subscription is helpful and friendly, the garden is gorgeous, and the coffee is excellent.

Great coffee and such a bright atmosphere! Could use a bit more comfortable seating but otherwise it was fantastic!

Killer patio with water feature. Great break from hustle bustle of Santa Few. Highly recommend the black bean and green Chile burrito.

barely a hello. Barely a thank you. I’m a nice guy, and I work in customer service. If I am nice to you, I expect at least a little civility in return. Your Mom didn’t do a good job teaching you manners…

the wifi password is espresso. the house coffee is delicious and even though it’s breakfast, i wanted a chicken sandwich. it was amazing, pre-made by Tesuque Village Market. I highly recommend them. I didn’t have anything else but the atmosphere is lovely. Everyone is in a happy chatty mood this early Tuesday morning. Fall is rolling in. it’s overcast and breezy outside. it’s a perfect autumn morning. counter staff is curt but prompt, with little to nothing to say. that’s fine. I’m having a nice time, regardless. the vibe is great and I could hang out for hours comfortably.

Visiting Santa Fe and a very nice lady at one of the galleries told me about this coffee shop. First, the space is beautiful. Great light and relaxed clientele. I ordered coffees for my husband and I. The young lady who took the order seemed to be pleasant. This was about 4:00 in the afternoon(on 3−7−14) and I was the only customer at the cashier or anywhere near the counter. The young man made the coffees and set them on the counter where I didn’t see them. Both of the staff never bothered to say«Your coffees are ready.» I stood there and stood there — normally staff would let you know they are ready. They just had so much attitude. Really? Why are you working there if you don’t want to provide customer service? Why would the owner have people like that? And the icing on the cake was the Americano was lousy! There are so many coffee houses — I won’t be back to this one.

Wash your hands please. I was so grossed out today when the girl at the register went from handling someone’s cash to dishing out my pie without washing her hands or putting on gloves. Nasty. I got a cappuccino that was really good. Well done on the drink but my blueberry pie was meh. Chewy crust. Syrupy tasteless filling. And no a la mode option?! WTH? It seems like their magazine variety has gone down since I came a few years ago. They used to have such a great selection. Also, nothing against them, but everyone there was a single senior citizen. I guess it’s just their hang out spot. They all were parked at the best tables for a long time with laptops, newspapers and whatnot. It was pretty quiet aside from some self-mumbling emitting from the window seats. Kinda weird vibe. Santa Fe has so many great cafés to choose from so I probably won’t go back.

Attitude, attitude, attitude you could throw a suitcase through! But this is typical Santa Fe. If you don’t like it you can leave, there are plenty of dupes in line behind you. If you like being treated this way you’ll love this place. Locals don’t all it «Downtown Depression» for nothing.

This is a classic coffee shop with a diverse global reading rack, good beverages and great outdoor seating, especially when the weather is dreamy. If you walk here you must pass venues selling art by our nation’s finest sculptors, painters and graphic artists. My eyes were delighted and my billfold buzzed like a Geiger counter every time I walked past a doorway. It is a fortunate place to land.

I love the back patio with umbrellas, a water feature and flowers so much that I can almost overlook the spacey, glassy eyed gazes from the bored baristas. Enjoy an «iced americano» or as I like to call it «Iced coffee» and scrawl something offensive on the blackboard for fun in the bathroom. Where else will you find magazines(aka relics of the past) to look at while tourists and older folks wheeze and waddle in front of you in line. Burritos from Tesuque Market and Whoo’s Doughnuts served here.(What, what.) While you listen to hip music played at a reasonable volume, enjoyed getting eyeballed by the people sitting down already, and try to overhear the plentiful conversations about the film industry that occur here. Give it a shot. Park in the alternate lot.

You wonder how it is possible to mess up a cappuccino. well, I congratulate Downtown Subscriptions on exemplifying that talent! I hadn’t been in DS in many years and was saddened at its decline. The display cases, which should have been overflowing with goodies, were rather barren in their offerings. My cappuccino was lacking entirely in full coffee flavor, was barely lukewarm and the foam on top was sloppily done and did not have a nice«art» finish on the surface of the coffee. We had a slice of carrot, apple cake. It was tasty, not stellar though and somewhat dry.

Downtown Subscription is a hidden gem, tucked in a residential area. While in Santa Fe we traveled around and stopped in multiple cafes in hopes of finding a respectful cup o’ joe. Downtown Subscription was by far the best one we found. We all liked it so much we made it an every morning stop for the rest of our trip. While talking to one of the baristos he told us that all of their ingredients(milk, grinds, cream, etc.) are all purchased from local, family owned farms within the area. That is rare to find nowadays so it’s a relief when you stumble upon one. It was about the fourth or fifth day returning here when the baristo noticed the foam looked a little off while making my latte. He poured it out and started over. Again, something was off. He turned to a coworker and looked at the drink she was making. Hers looked iffy as well. Immediately he took every single jug of milk and took them to the back. After a quick minute he returned with 5 or 6 new, unopened jugs with a later expiration date. The original ones still had 3 or 4 days left anyway. This proves that the baristos and baristas know their coffee, and take pride in their work. Even enough so that they are willing to throw out half their stock of milk! Try finding a Starbucks or Coffee Bean employee willing to do that.
