The Tollgate Inn

I was in last night for dinner, and as usual I was impressed.
Every time i am in we are promptly seated and taken care of right away!
The décor inside is adorable, and leaves plenty to look at — and I’ve never had a server I didn’t love.
While their breakfast is great, the dinner menu has some amazing items on it as well!
Love Tollgate in, this is a place I’ll take my kids and grand kids one day!

We ate here today. Really rally bad service. Once our food was put in front of us we never saw our waitress again. Even to get our bill. She was very friendly but absent. The food… it was pretty bad. We got 2 bacon cheese burgers a western bacon burger and the chicken fried steak. I can’t say anything good about any of it. 50.00 down the drain

Just got an email from the owner. As of October Tollgate quit using canned or frozen veggies and they do hand batter the fish. I appreciate a business that is conscientious enough to get customers feedback and improve. Unlike some businesses, Original Roadhouse I’m looking at YOU

we have coming here for quite sometime now. service is great the food was delicious, and the drinks very well made.
unfortunately tonight was the last we will be having our dinner dates. sadly everything in regards to food has been nothing but disappointment barley was able to pad our stomachs since we had a drink. unfortunately not even when I’m intoxicated would I be able to eat the meal we were served. I want to make it clear that our service was great.
ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies and a dinner salad plus the spinach artichoke we get every time cause we enjoy it that much.
the dinner salad has dirt/​mud on it (God made dirt dirt don’t hurt) no I rather not have ecoli. sent it back. artichoke dip had so much cheese we both gagged trying to eat it. not our normal dip we anticipate in ordering.
The chicken… was pink… rubbery…and extremely hot as though was heated in the microwave… chicken is not something we play around with due to getting food poisoning.

We just went here and waited to be seated for 15 minutes. We finally left because the girl came and wrote down how many people were in the 3 groups standing there and just walked away after seating one group. So many empty tables and another gal just kept looking at us all and walking away. If it takes that long to be seated and be ignored how long will it take to get food?! Probably won’t be back. I would give no stars if it was an option.

The outside looks cute, quaint, western, and inviting. Adorned with Christmas lights we had high hopes for home cooking.
When you walk in, the smell of old cigarettes acosts you… This was our first, and will be only, time in. A young waitress sat us and recommended the soup & meatloaf. Our waitress introduced herself as, «I’m really stressed out, we’ve been really busy and they sent everyone home.» She was greatly relieved when she only had to write one check for all of us. The tables/​floors were sticky and greasy. The food was terrible, over salted, soggy, and greasy. The Mac & cheeese was rubbery. The meat loaf was mystery meat with chunks of something, slathered in brownish gravy thicker than wallpaper paste. It was inedible. Yuck! Our waitress asked if we were ok because she really needed a break and would be back in awhile. All 8 of us agreed it was one of the worst meals we’ve ever had.

My family and I chose to dine here after visiting Mount Hood. We were all hungry. We ordered the artichoke dip starter and mac and cheese kids meal with our steaks to follow. The mac and cheese was overcooked and from a box. The ciabatta bread so greasy my husband put it down after one slice. Suddenly, we were left wondering what the steaks would be like. We expressed concern to the server who told us «all our reviews are excellent, you should read them». Sadly our experience didn’t mesh. We left a $ 20 on the table after she removed the uneaten mac and ciabatta starter to cover the steaks. On the plus, we grabbed some muffins from the bakery next door to tide us over… they were great.

We had great service and wonderful breakfast! Great coffee! Bought a Mt. Berry pie at the bakery too!

My best friend and I don’t see each other as often as we would like so we we eager to sit back and chat over a nice meal… We started at double dragon and thought Chinese would be good. Well, l will be reviewing double dragon in the morning when I’m not so angry. Lol. We ended up coming to tollgate after our failed Chinese food. Cocoa was our waitress… Amazing is not enough to say how great she was. Personable and professional. Recommended our dinner and it was delish. If more servers treated their customers like this dining would always be a pleasure !!!

A perfectly fine place to replenish the calories your body burned while doing outdoorsy things on Mt Hood. The food was fine enough, the staff was incredibly friendly and good at their jobs, and the atmosphere… well, it was clean! Beyond that, I can’t much say I’d recommend The Tollgate Inn. But then again, I wouldn’t NOT recommend it, either. Three stars it is.
The menu is definitely broad, with all of the standard American comfort foods, plus a few surprises. I ended up getting the chicken fried chicken, which comes with two sides. I got mashed potatoes and broccoli. The dinner date had the chicken pot pie, with a side of tater tots. Both meals were just laughably huge! Like, a family of 4 could have eaten that pot pie. Both seemed pretty underseasoned, as well. Personally, I liked the pot pie better. Neither would I go out of my way to order again.
As I said, service was great. A few different staff members checked on us throughout the meal, and they were all as friendly as can be. We were never left wanting for anything, and our food came out quickly. Once we finished, we were given boxes (massive portions, remember?) and the dishes were cleaned right away, as well. They certainly take pride in their job.
If you can’t tell, I’m not big into this type of business. But give credit where it’s due: they run a good restaurant. I don’t know for sure that I’ll be back, but I sure hope that they do well!

I looked on Unilocal to pick the restaurant for my self my husband & 2 men we hardly know from the company he works for. We came to Sandy for a business meeting. We arrived & sat down 6:15pm. The men choose to sit in the bar to watch the ballgame. Let me start with food. Waitress told us it was a new menu. 3 out of 4 of us ordered the Seafood plater. I asked if I could have the clam strips (I don’t eat clams) replaced with one of the other items on plate. There was a 2“x 3″ over cooked piece of Halibut, two 1“x3″ coconut Calamari (steak) strips, two small butterfly coconut Shrimp & a handful of clam strips. The meal came with 2 sides there were about 8 choices.
++ Now for the service. When we arrived there were 3 booths with a total of 9 people. The guys choose to sit in center @ a table so they could watch the game. Two tables were eating. I got up after 20 minutes & asked for one of the 2 girls to take our order. They were more concerned with making drinks for dining room as there were other waitstaff coming in to pick up drinks. She took our drink order said she would take our meal order when she brought our drinks. I again had to get up & ask for them to take our meal order, we still did not have water or the other drinks we ordered. By this time there were 2 more tables seated total of 7 people. She said she would be right over. Before she brought our drinks she took the drink order of the 2 new tables. As she dropped our drinks off she didn’t say a word. Turned & walked to the 2 tables seated at least 40 min after we arrived & took their orders & turned them in. Then came to take our order. We ordered another round of drinks asked me if I would like a refill on my water. She brought the 3 beers & never brought my 2^nd mixed drink or my water. After being there for 1 hr & 40 minutes our meals were delivered by someone from the kitchen. We had to ask for 3 of the sides that were not on our plate. The same guy came back in 15 minutes with 2 of the 3 missing sides. They never brought the 3^rd side or my drink. One of the guys at our table asked for our 2 bill’s. She brought them over 15 min later & never came back. I finally took the 2 bills & credit cards to bar where they continued to ignore me, talking to each other & making drinks. By this time the place was almost full. One of the girls walked by me with tray of drinks & came back complaining that someone gave her a note on a keno form. That said they were upset with lack of service & table bussing. She put the note up behind the beer taps & they laughed. The time stamp on our receipt is 9:04:59 pm. We were there for almost 3 hours. The guys had to getup @ 6am this morning for their meeting. We had walked from the Best Western hotel. If it had been my husband & I we would have gotten up & left. We had a decent meal but will not go back after what we went thru.

I got to take my lovely wife out for breakfast. We just moved to Sandy so I didn’t know where to go… there’s always a fair amount of people in the parking lot here so we figured we would be fine…
We were much better than fine. We had two different omelets that were very flavorful and lovely. My wife had pancakes and said they were very tasty.
We will be back.

Chicken pot pie was huge, and amazing. Prime rib cooked to order!!! Cocktails in this cozy bar are decent, and the antique atmosphere is charming. Staff friendly and welcoming, and prompt service.

Every meal we have had here has been so very good! So if you love eating your mom’s food but no longer live at home then come here and enjoy! Jaime was our server and she was very nice and made sure she was available any time we might need something!!!
Perfect!

If you want to experience better cooking than your country Grandmother fixes, then this is the place, the only place.
You know how you hate meatloaf, try theirs!

Review for the bakery — special occasion cake:
My mom ordered my baby shower cake from Tollgate Bakery and it was SERIOUSLY AMAZING. The carrot cake was sooo unbelievably good. And she did a fantastic job on the decorations; it was adorable and exactly what we wanted (my mom showed her a picture from pinterest).
And the price was really good — much less than what we were quoted by various bakeries in Portland and Gresham.
We will be coming here for now on for any special occasion cakes!

Well, the waitress was pleasant. So, honestly, im going to try to be fair here.
First, the beef and vegetables soup– the broth is ok, salty, but the veggies are canned and you can tell.
The cobb salad was so-​so.
My daughter had the shrimp alfredo and the shrimp were salad size shrimp. For $ 15 you would think they’d throw medium shrimp in there.
We were never given water– had to ask for it and they dollop their cosmopolitan drinks with an extreme amount of.. .whip cream?
Im new to the sandy area and for $ 45 i could have had steak and crab in the city.
Not to be harsh but, it’ll take alot for me to come again.

I was told about the great Chicken Fried steak breakfast they serve there. Talk about a let down. The steak was a greasy mess, as one other reviewer put it Slop. There was pools of grease on top of the gravy, too the point my wife, or I could not finish it. We ended up bringing it home after putting out over $ 20 for breakfast. I think the best thing on the plate was the toast, the bread came from the bakery next door, and the coffee was good. My wife and I eat out regularly, if we find a place we like we easily become regulars. I emailed the restaurant a few days after the incident, and said if they wanted to make things right please contact me, before i put this review online, I have not heard anything from them yet and it has been over a week. I guess they do not care about their customer experiences in their restaurant

This used to be one of my favorite family breakfast places. Today was horrible and we decided not worth the drive out anymore.
Service issues:
Hostess too busy flirting to seat us
No cream brought to the table– made worse because when I got up to get it and she came back the next time she said «Oh, you got your cream» but didn’t have any with her.
Long wait for acknowledgment and orders to be taken.
Food issues:
Hollandaise Sauce was bland.
French Toast was only dipped in batter, not soaked and had a funny taste to it.

AMAZING! My regret in this case is that I live in Beaverton… I had to come out this way for work today and stumbled into this little gem! I’m glad I did… Had the steak sandwich w/​mushrooms & peppers & fries. At first I thought «$ 15.99 for lunch?!» But not only would I gladly pay that I’m thinking I’d make the 1 hour drive here from Beaverton to get it. Nice open seating, clean, friendly service (thanks Debby :))
