We showed up for lunch yesterday and our order was taken. In about five minutes we received salad and soup. We sat there another 15 minutes until the server showed up and told us «both chefs were busy on the other side». We immediately got up and left and went to Taco Cabana where we were served in about five minutes. I could tell when we walked in the service was going to be bad, so it’s somewhat my fault for sitting there for 15 minutes. Bad place…

I went with a group to celebrate a birthday and went as far as to set a reservation at 7PM. We were promptly there 15 minutes early and still were not sat till about 20 minutes after 7PM. Our server introduced herself and said she would be right with us. We had made a cake to have after dinner and kindly asked the server if they could keep it cool till we were ready for it. We got an «okay» and she simply walked away. She returned to grab out drink order. Nothing to crazy, some waters, couple glasses of wine and a beer tower. She returned with the waters which some(not over exaggerating) were half way filled up along with the wine and no beer tower. She then left to tend to her other table who were getting ready to leave and all wanted separate checks, we still had yet to receive our beer tower. I ended up leaving the table to grab the host to see if he would take our cake and place inside the cooler. Out waitress was gone for approx 20 minutes and fill any returned to grab our food order and still no beer tower. We kindly reminded her of the beer order. We were met with an «I’m sorry» and she left again. She returned with our soup and just like the waters some were filled and others we half filled. Still no beer tower. Our salad came and still no beer tower. 1hr and 20min into our meal we reminded her yet again about the beer tower. She finally brought us the drink we ordered and she apologized again saying she was running all over the place. Then came time for our hibachi chef to entertain and cook our meal. Now I’ve been to several hibachi restaurants both high end and casual and most seem to keep with the same«flow» of you were and dazzle us with some utensil flipping, shrimp tail tossing, egg rolling humor we come to expect. Nothing even close to entertainment was offered. Just rolled the cart up and started dumping food on the grill. Now I would never say someone was too old for any certain profession but this gentleman was past his prime and surely did not have any flair. Poor guy could hardly walk. Our senior cook didn’t even readout everyone’s order for confirmation. Now on to the meal… first was the rice was made. Rice was fair and probably the best tasting part of my meal. My fiancé ordered teriyaki beef and our chef simply(again no exaggerating) browned the meat to our desires temperature and scooped it onto her plate. No salt, pepper, soy sauce, butter, or the name sake teriyaki sauce. Cheap cut of beef as you can guess was bland tasting. I had the chicken and shrimp combo and luckily the teriyaki sauce found its was to my chicken. Still no salt and pepper though. Our chef cooked our shrimp appetizer(2 whole pieces) and completely forgot that the rest of the shrimp was for my plate and literally set the cooked shrimp off the side of the grill. I had to remind him of my order so he could take the shrimp and place it on my plate. Finally our chef ended with our grilled vegetables which was poorly cut and each vegetable were different sizes and as you can imagine some were not cooked entirely due to the poor knife work. As you can see I am very disappointed with my experience here and should never use the fact they employ college kids and or being short staffed as a reason to provide less than exceptional experience. I strongly recommend they revisit their reason for being in business and get back to basics before this gets anymore out of hand. Hope this review helps. Happy eating!

I only come here for the Double J roll– it is delicious. I’ve also had good experiences at the hibachi grill. The wait staff is just ok.

Made a call ahead and still had to wait over an hour. Got seated and still waiting to be served. Very very slow and unorganized.

I’ve eaten at the hibachi grill many times before, but tonight my boyfriend and I went and ate at a regular table. First of all the fried rice tasted like burned oil. Second was the fact that my boyfriend’s food came and then another 15 minutes went by before I received my meal(1 sushi roll). So disappointed in this place.

Ate here for the first time since 2009 back then this place was a hot spot and so good. Was in the area and decided to try it again despite hearing the racist rumors. They had an endless sushi special which I thought would be worth it. Nope, the sushi was mediocre. Salmon rolls tasted funny. The fried rolls tasted old and stale. Not coming back ever here again. On top of this the owners Son/Nephew? I don’t know which. Walks around and gives everyone stank face, its very strange. This place was only good 6yrs ago. Go to Japan Latino instead.

Great price great food great service!!! Came here for all you can eat lunch and it was so much better than expected! The food was beautifully made, fresh, delicious and very traditional. Coming from Vancouver, we have some of the best Japanese food there and this place can definitely compete with those back home! Definitely going to come back soon!

This is the worst service I have gotten in my life. We come all the time and the service is always bad but we like the sushi. That last time we came we ordered the unlimited sushi and we all ate it. A manager comes storming over with a bunch of sushi that had been pulled out of the bathroom and threw it on our table blaming us. Everyone in the restaurant had ordered the unlimited sushi it could have easily been anyone in the restaurant. I have never been talked to that disrespectfully, I have been in customer service my entire life and I don’t know how he is part of a successful business.

Racist, rude, and a little too pricey. Don’t think we’ve all forgotten… I’m a vegetarian now, but when I still ate fish/still live in San Marcos last semester, I went to wok n roll! I created my own roll, and it was perfect every time

I too don’t understand all the negative reviews of Kobe?! I have never had a negative experience at this location. The sushi is very good, and the grill was great, this was the first time trying it here. I had the tilapia and my wife had the shrimp, both were very good had great flavor. We also had sushi, which I have had here before for lunch. I have always thought it was very good for the price, and the service has always been great. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone for family or a nice date night.
