I’m only give by this a 2 because I’ve never given a 1, anyways the food here was cold, reheated potatoes, over cooked egg, greasy bacon, and all very overpriced. Our waitress was very polite, which was only positive thing I can say about this juke joint. My husband had the ham & cheese omelette which was really huge, but he only ate ½ & threw the rest away in our hotel room connected to this diner. One more really gross disgusting tip: as I was walking towards the bath room it smelled like cesspool & when I opened the door it smelled even worse! They must have a plumbing issue up in here .it really ruined my appetite. Madonna Inn is up the road, best breakfast ever for the same price too!

I am surprised to see Margie’s doesn’t have higher ratings. Two thumbs up in my book! I got Ken’s combo, and my husband got Margie’s Slam(or something like that) The pancakes were super fluffly! They were definitely the best I have had in quite some time. The sausage was very flavorful, and the eggs were yummy as well. The portions are large, but who’s complaining?! It is a little on the pricier side, but the food & comfy atmosphere are worth it.

Marge’s Dinner is your quintessential home style cooking, if you live in America and don’t care about cholesterol or maintaining human portions. Four eggs in one omelette for one person?! Hello, heart attack! I have been here twice and I enjoyed coffee and toast!!! And the waitress was very nice. Although, this is not a place I would pick to dine at or bring out of town guests too. Too much food, too many people. But that’s good business!

I had a few meals at Margie’s, and the portions were way too big and the prices reflect that fact. They had very good onion rings, but I only got 3 mega rings with my patty melt. I had to eat that with a knife and fork, because it was falling apart. One guy ordered a Cobb salad and got 3 –5 lbs of food on his plate. No joke. Breakfasts are huge and it’s actually healthier to get the biscuits and gravy over potatoes and toast, calorie-wise. But it’s expensive, especially if you order ala carte. I grabbed a club sandwich and fries to go one night near closing time, so they were cool about that. It was as good as if I was there at noon. But there was a whole, 2nd to-go box full of fries. Way too much to eat. The décor was old and dated. A decent selection of Golden Age records play in the background.

Very big portions. Awesome actual 50’s atmosphere. The waitress forgot our drinks and apologized for it. She was so sincere and she had been waiting on so many tables, we can all relate. She was still very passionate about everything. Go Margie’s! I’ll be back! =)

The portions are huge but that doesn’t make it worth the money. What they do is give you a shit ton of the cheap stuff and skimp on everything else. I got the the avocado tuna salad today. It was literally a mountain of lettuce(no spinach, just lettuce and slivers of cabbage and carrot) with very little toppings stacked on top. It seems like they don’t mix the salad together so that you don’t realize how disproportional the toppings are to the lettuce. That cost me 19 $. They added gratuity of 20% because i was with a party of more than 8, although our service was sub par. I came to the front to pay and stood at the register for some time while the workers talked to each other. That’s fine but, as a server myself, I feel like they could have at least acknowledged the customer and then have continued their conversation.

Banana pancakes are my go-to whenever I come here! The wait can be long, but it’s worth it! Your typical diner with HUGE portions! The diner itself is also pretty big so service is limited and I often found myself wanting more water or something and having to flag down a waitress myself or going to the front to ask.

Went to Maggie’s with my wife because I was craving breakfast in the late afternoon and they serve breakfast until they close. I got the chilli cheese omelette(replaced the toast and potatoes with biscuits and gravy… obviously). The plate was piled with food and I had to take the biscuits and gravy to go. Overall I enjoyed my meal but I think the omelette itself was a little bland. Had it not been for the chilli I don’t think I would have liked it on its own. My wife got an avocado club sandwich. And although it was a good size it just seemed like it was too overpriced for what it was. I think it was around $ 14.99. Although the onion rings that came with it were awesome! I’d give this 3.5 stars if I could, it’s bordering in the middle. But at the end we payed $ 41 after tax and tip for an omelette and a sandwich… so 3 stars it is.

Love this place! It’s totally the cliché 50s movie diner style. Not only is their food good, but they serve breakfast all day! That’s including their huge breakfast meal«Margie slam bam» which includes two bacon, a sausage, eggs, and two gigantic delicious pancakes. Great meal at either 8am or 8pm.

fuck this place!!! EXTREMELYOVERPRICED! Huge portions and tons of wasted food. It’s breakfast. It should be cheap. Not $ 14.95 for a Grand Slam type of meal. And then like $ 4.50 for a glass of orange juice??? And NOFREEREFILLS!!!

Maybe the burgers are the way to go;breakfast is mediocre. Be warned: PORTIONSAREHUGE and price is $$$$. Oversized portion is usually thrilling, but here too much is just too much. There is enough on the plate to easily fill 3 people sharing. I ordered the veggie omelet and pancake. It was so-so, especially considering the steep price. I would rather have ½ as much food and pay ½ less. My bill was $ 23 for 1 omelet and 1 chocolate shake(shakes are $ 8). Waaay too steep

In a way, this diner is a dinosaur by most modern standards. But that can also be a positive thing, in that it is a gracious nod to the past, when times were simpler. Back when highway diners were more commonplace. Like remembering an old road trip with the family, stopping along some stretch of highway to eat. The building itself feels like it is something out of the 60s/70s, from the ceiling tiles, the light fixtures, and ceiling stereo speakers blasting tunes from said generations. Looking over, I even see the old light-up call number system(when orders were ready). As I was browsing over the menu, I found myself raising an eyebrow at the prices, but came to find out the portions here are huge. Those onion rings pictures I shared? That’s a *half portion*. The meals themselves are large too. Glad I was steered towards this great little find.

FANTASTASTIC little place almost hidden off the highway. Kind of a classic 50’s diner. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the standard comfort foods for each meal. What sets it apart? The FOOD! Both quantity and quality. I had a hankering for a chili-burger, and this one covered the platter with the onion ring side. I was going to order an appetizer, but I am glad I didn’t. As I could not finish the meal. While I didn’t enjoy one, clearly a specialty is the classic hand-made milkshakes. Every other customer that came in(they obviously were regulars) ordered one. I wish I had gotten a smaller plate and a milkshake in the side. Can’t wait till next time !!

What struck me first was the wood paneling, a throwback to my grandparents remodeled family room in the 70’s. The trophy case at the front door long ago replacing the cigarette machine. The fist visit here ended with a no to a thirty minute wait on Sunday morning, who’d thunk. Restaurant 101, serve huge portions, people take longer to eat, equals a wait time to get a seat for a meal. My Denver Omelet was great. I’ll skip the rest there are plenty of pics and comments already. No W-Fi was actually welcomed, you came here to eat dam-it, so put down the gadget Somebody is waiting for your table! There’s nothing new here just tried and true fresh, hot, delicious food and plenty of it! –Foodguy

I have driven past here many times on road trips and this time decided to stop. HUGE portions of delicious, American Diner food. Pleasant staff. Clean restaurant. Bacon Cheeseburger: Huge. Thick burger with creamy cheddar cheese and thick bacon one can actually taste. A chocolate malt that brought me back to the 60’s when diners such as this were everywhere. Please stop by if you want to refuel your bod and need to sustain yourself for hours. I won’t be eating dinner tonight.

Schoolteacher and I were staying at the Motel 6 next door. After packing up, we walked across the parking lot to get some breakfast before beginning the long drive home to Santa Clarita. We entered the place and it looked dinery, and it was fairly busy. Good sign I suppose. We were quickly greeted, and escorted to a seat. After eating loads of Mac & Cheese the prior day, I wasn’t super hungry. But upon seeing the ‘Slam Bam’ at another table, I decided I really wanted one. I really do have a serious case of ‘My eyeballs are bigger than my stomach’. Schoolteacher went with an egg white omelette. After our coffee kicked in, we began to discuss our day, and we marveled when our food arrived. The pancakes on the platter were immense, and took up half the dang thing. Meats were piled on top, and a field of egg filled the rest of the plate. A full on ice-cream scoop of butter sat atop the pancakes, slowly melting from their fresh-off-the-griddle heat. Some fruits were tossed in for good measure. Ah, I do love the diners that go big. Once again, the mac & cheese still filling my tummy chimed in, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish it all. We both dug in, and we shared and we both enjoyed our breakfasts. After an hour or so, when we were stuffed to the gills, we asked for boxes to pack up the considerable amount of food we had left. We both had barely dented our massive meals. When I got the bill, sure… it was a bit on the pricey side, I think in the ballpark of thirty dollars for two breakfasts? But we were also walking out with massive quantities of breakfasts. They stuff you at this place with gargantuan sized plates of tasty foods. Next time I’m in San Luis Obispo, I’ll stop in for breakfast here at Margies.

Came here as this is a favorite of my father-in-law’s whenever he goes to SLO. Ordered breakfast items. Holy-gigantic-portions!!! Besides the plates looking like they were injected with steroids, the food was actually not bad at all! One negative, the place could really use a good face lift. Kinda dingy and old. Share a plate. Trust me.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. I was so excited to eat here because I think diners are adorable… and this one looked like it, too! I like the feeling you get of going back in time. And the hearty, satisfying, comfort food at diners. But service was really slow and lacking. They forgot one of the cinnamon rolls that our table ordered and didn’t check on us during our meal, even though we tried to get their attention. We ended up getting the cinnamon roll as we were paying our check. I had a tuna melt which wasn’t that good.

Staying in SLO for a couple of days to visit Cal Poly with my soon-to-be-college age daughter, we stopped at Margie’s Diner because it was walking distance from our hotel. We were both pleasantly surprised. What we thought was going to be a glorified Denny’s turned out to be a diner where we enjoyed breakfast at the counter while the one waitress on duty hustled to take care of everyone. The food was excellently prepared(eggs over easy, cheese and avocado omelette) and served quickly and hot. The server was busting her butt to get to everyone in the place as it filled up but she stayed cheerful and was super efficient. If my daughter chooses and is accepted to Cal Poly, I can see more trips to Margie’s diner in my future.

When I was an undergrad at USC, I spent a lot of time visiting buddies in San Diego, Santa Barbara, and SLO… Maybe that’s why I had a four year free ride, and paid for a fifth year… Despite thwarting my full scholarship, traveling to see pals in other colleges had other benefits that probably paid better dividends than my business degree from SC(I am a principal now, so really, I’m not using the BS degrees now.) Among the cultural and culinary delights local to SoCals great college towns, is a little truck stop diner nestled into a hotel called Margie’s. If you weren’t looking for it, you’d probably miss it. It isn’t really in San Luis proper– more on the outskirts. But brothers and sisters, they have the biggest omelets and breakfasts for the price, with flavors and tastes that cure even the wildest night of partying. Over the New Years holiday, my family and I stopped in to Margie’s. The place was packed with mostly college kids in various states of hangover, along with some travelers like us. The prices had gone up since I was last in there(ok, like 15 years ago) but the food and portions was just as I remembered– Marge is large and in-charge! My omelet had a huge amount of whole sautéed mushrooms on top, along with potatoes and toast. Maybe 5 or 6 eggs in this omelet? Heart attack food, and soothes the savage beast of yesternight’s imbibing. I miss college, and as evidenced by alumni weekends and such, you can return… But you can’t go back. Fortunately, places like Margie’s still deliver a little slice of the past with a generous helping of memories to wash it down.
