Loved this place. Small and very good service for us. Got great recommendations. Had an amazing starter of burrata with fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes. Yuuum! Also had pumpkin tortellini and the seafood linguini. Both delicious and not too expensive ~$ 20 for entrée. Dessert was a bit of a letdown, they didn’t have tiramisu(!) and the espressos were $ 4.25 each. Which seemed outrageous to me. But overall to be honest, I really loved the experience and the people and I would absolutely go back.

I had a birthday lunch here with 7 other friends and was pleased with the food, service and ambiance. My one complaint is that they wouldn’t accommodate us with separate checks. This is very inconvenient especially as so many of us do not carry much cash these days. I needed to book a restaurant for a group of 25 but will not book it here. Café Roma is willing to write separate checks so we will be dining there.

I love this place. I have been here maybe 4 times, and every time it has been wonderful. This is where my husband and I go when we want a little fancier dinner. We just went last night and it was as fantastic as always. It’s a tiny little restaurant that really has that family feel. As we walked in, everybody said hi to us. Our waiter was attentive but not annoying, and the manager came by and asked how we were doing a few times. He even refilled my wine the second I finished it. The service is great and the food is fantastic too. Highly recommend Buona Tavola for Italian food in SLO.

After walking by this restaurant for years, we finally made a reservation for a Saturday night before seeing a play at a local theater. We were pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere, the service and the food. We told our waiter that we had to be out in an hour, and she promised us that would happen. Great wine. I had one of the specials for the day, white fish, and it was very nice. It came with two vegetables and polenta, all perfectly prepared and presented. The back garden area is lovely, having lots of greenery and strings of lights. We definitely recommend this restaurant and will return.

Had the mahi mahi and the pear salad with grilled chicken on top. Can honestly say the whole meal was absolutely delicious! The mahi mahi was grilled to absolute perfection with steamed spinach paired evenly with it and a tomato topenade on the side. The salad was equally delicious. The subtly of the pine nuts and light balsamic dressing mixed with sweetness from the pears was so great! The wait staff was extremely nice and helpful as well!

This restaurant is so cute! It’s very romantic and has good service. The price is fair and the food was delicious. Portion was a little big. If you weren’t starving, I’d recommend share an entrée and a salad between 2 people, that way you’d have room for a nice desert as well!:)

We originally had a reservation but we still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. Then we sit down outside in the back and I’m blown away. It’s very beautiful with string lights and a tree going through the roofing. The heater took a while to turn on and made weird clicking noises. Then when it did turn on, it kinda exploded and got black particles in my eyes and all over my body. Luckily I didn’t have any food on the table yet. We originally ordered two different glasses of wine; one red and one white. However, we received two glasses of the same white wine. Our bill came out to around $ 110 for two glasses of wine, a salad, seafood pasta, and a steak. The artichoke salad was okay. The steak was nothing special, but the seafood pasta special was very very good. To finish off the night we got free tiramisu for our anniversary which was nice of the restaurant. It was okay. Overall, I think this place has potential but we did not have the best of luck here for a special occasion.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner on our last night on vacation in San Luis Obispo, I saw the excellent Unilocal reviews and was really excited to try this place! The restaurant itself is really cozy and romantic, perfect for a date night. Our service was excellent, the staff was very attentive and polite. The food was some of the best Italian food I’ve ever eaten, and I’m Italian so I’ve eaten a lot of it! I ordered the Pappardelle alla San Pietro and it was incredibly delicious, everything about it was perfect. Our food came very quickly and the experience was absolutely wonderful overall. The only thing I’m sad about is that I don’t live in that area to come back again!

Quiet Saturday night dining at this lovely restaurant. I was seated immediately upon arriving. But then, nobody came to my table for approximately 10 minutes. Eventually, the manager/owner(at least that’s who I think he was, as he was not in server uniform and was standing at the door much of the evening, and he wasn’t the host) did come over, tell me the specials and take my order. Butternut squash soup, arugala salad with beets, pomegranate seeds, goat cheese, and a carbonara with shrimp, scallops, and asparagus. Everything was very good, but nothing screamed WOW. Service was smooth, despite the bumpy(delayed) start. I arrived at 7:30. By 9, the staff was clearing and up and leaving. Shame, as I was willing to sit, read my book, and order a few more glasses of wine. A nice touch: their olive pesto spread brought to the table with the bread. And then they try to sell it to you in 6 oz bottles on the menu. Catchy!

Great family Itallian restaurant. One secrete of a great restaurant is the fresh ingrediants. We ran into the proprieterr of this restaurant at the Templeton City Farmers Market and decided to give this redtaurant a try. A Chilly night, made the comfort food here warm us up. As a Vegan they were accomadating. I had fresh steamed spinach and salad. Others in my group had steak salad, salmon, eggplant, and sea food salad. Everyone was very happy and raved about their dishes. The service was attentive and excellent. Owner personally checked in with us to make sure everyone in our party was happy. I Would personnally return, as would the rest of my family.

My family and I dined here on Saturday night without a reservation. Since we arrived at 6pm we were seated but I highly recommend making a reservation as people who came later were quoted a wait. There is a small front room and nice back patio. The man who I believe is the manager was very present in the front of house. He took our orders and made sure that we had everything that we needed. It is evident that he has a passion for making sure each guest has a wonderful experience. Everyone was pleased with their meal, even simple preparations such as Capellini al Pomodoro which is angel hair pasta with tomatoes and basil. Each dish was beautifully presented. I went with one of the specials of the day: a risotto with shrimp, white fish, mushrooms and asparagus stems cooked in a seafood broth. This was truly the best risotto that I have ever had, and I love risotto. Another favorite was the Insalata di Parma which is served on a bed of prosciutto. The recipes really let the fresh ingredients shine. This is Italian style fine dining, so don’t expect things to be rushed. We sat around for a bit waiting for our orders to be taken and for the check to be presented. Its a great spot for a special occasion, date night, etc.

Wonderful service and delicious food. Will definitely be coming back! Went to dinner at Buona Tavola with my family when they were visiting me at college. We had reservations and had not specified sitting outside but were able to change our table and the patio/outdoor area is gorgeous! Lights strung above with a tree as the centerpiece on the wall. Wonderful ambiance. Service was excellent! Our table was wobbly, and a server noticed and fixed it without us asking. My younger brother did not find what he wanted on the menu, our waitress mentioned the kitchen could make anything so they made him a custom Fettuccini Alfredo dish. We were promptly served as we had a movie to catch. Will definitely be coming back, lovely place to dine!

I went to Buona Tavola with my wife and friends to celebrate someones brand new job! For appetizer my wife and I shared a caesar salad, which was very good. I was dressed perfectly and the parmesan cheese was extra delicious. For dinner I ordered the Fettuccine al sugo di carne miste, but instead of the red sauce I asked for pesto sauce. The pesto sauce was the best pesto I’ve ever had, literally! I had almost everyone at the table saying I need to try that, and by try, I mean just dig in to my food while I tried to do the same lol. Did I mention how great the pesto was? It was very creamy and I just can’t praise it enough. We also shared a bottle of Barbera D’Alba. That was one of the best wines I have had in a long time. For dessert my wife and I shared the flourless chocolate, which was what seemed like a small slice, but after all the pasta and the richness of the cake, it was plenty. The wait staff was very very good too. Our waitress was Italian, of course, and she pronounced everything on the menu with ease and was able to tell us what each dish consisted of(i.e. pasta shapes, sauce types, etc.). Overall, I had a spectacular first time dining at Buona Tavola and will definitely be back as soon as I can. Signing Off, Bretzlaf

Excellent dinner, plenty of food, that was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented by professional staff. Wine list was limited, but serves the purpose of providing choices to go with the fab food. The agnolotti was excellent with the saffron cream sauce. Will be back for sure.

Two of us went there on a quiet Tuesday night for dinner. From the front it looked like it was empty, but their patio at the back was full. I am a sucker for any kind of string lights, and this place was great with creepers and lights and Italian speaking servers. We decided to have vegetarian food, and ordered a special salad that night with baby spinach, pear, pine nuts and a balsamic dressing. I never knew salad can be that great. For the main course, we got the Tortelloni di zucca alla salvia e mascarpone. Oh god, so good, my boyfriend and I loved it. We scraped our plates clean.

The food was very good but the staff was clueless about how to make a positive guest experience. They seated my wife and I at a table for two right smack in the middle of where they had set up for a very large party in the otherwise totally empty dining patio. When we asked about it, they said the large party was arriving later in the evening. WRONG!!! We ended up eating our meal with a bunch of butts in our faces while the party guests arrived and stood right next to our table and milled around with drinks in hand. We made the staff aware that this was a problem and they finally offered to move us but we had already finished our meal so it was pointless. They didn’t even offer to comp us a drink or dessert. RUDE! So, while the food was good, the experience sucked.

Nice outdoor patio(if you get a good table — I was seated in the very back and it was not nice at all), good service, but bland food IMO. Not sure if I’ll go back.

Wonderful luck. Saturday night of Frosh move-in at Cal Poly SLO saw a packed downtown. Only about a 15 minute wait, which let us explore BooBoo Records across the street, and we got a fun table on the patio… prime people watching. Swordfish special, ravioli special and pizza special were all hits and accurately described by our waiter. Gelato trio for dessert was like magic(i.e. it disappeared). We’ll be back.

We had an amazing dinner here last night. This place was recommended to us by the Owner of ReFind, one of the wineries we tasted at yesterday. You must stop by there as well. Back to our dinner, the restaurant had a full house(the front dinning area was packed, we thought we were going to have a long wait, but there is seating in the back covered patio). We where seated right away and drink orders taken, there were lots of wonderful choices on the menu, but when the waitress Bernacie(I believe that was her name). Explained all of the house specials, the menu was forgotten. Of course all of the specials sounded wonderful, we could have ordered one of everything, but that would have been way too much food for the two of us. Bernice suggested that we try the tomato soup(no cream, potato purée instead), the Carbonara with shrimp, asparagus, pancetta and shallots, and the lamb medallions with potatoes, spinach and carrots to share. We took her recommendations and enjoyed every morsel. On top of the exceptional food, Bernice and the staff gave exceptional service. Too stuffed to try any dessert and didn’t bother looking at the menu, because I knew we would find something and order it anyway. This is a must try.
