Been here a few times because it is close to my office. I can say after a few times, I’d rather avoid it. The rolls are okay but very over priced. The bento box is $ 15+ with tip and consists of a generic iceberg lettuce salad mix they buy in bulk at WalMart drenched in Japanese sweet mayo. It’s disgusting(unless you love eating spoonfuls of mayo), tepid miso soup, and small portions of whatever main entrée you order. All in all, very small portions, WAY over priced for the lack of quality, and sufficient level of service.

Pretty good lunch value. $ 15 bento box with 3 items, soup salad and rice! We also got a salmon shashimi appetizer and it was very good quality. Not the best value place but great taste. Will go again!

After reading reviews on this place, I decided to try it out. In hindsight, this was a bad idea. I arrived before noon. The place was empty. I thought that was a good thing until I started asking questions because I’m allergic to shellfish. The elder waitpersons’ communication skills were poor and I could not understand her. She became rude and implied that she was too busy to help me. There were only 4 people(2 tables) and me. I ended up leaving w/o eating. I won’t be back.

Came in here on a Tuesday during lunch time, and service is fast, but feels a bit rushed. The food is decent, but not the best. It’s an okay place. We got a Lion King and various veggie rolls and they were okay.

what a great, reasonably priced dinner. the sushi rolls were loaded, and the nigiri was cut thick… no skimping here. the nageyaki udon was fantastic… wonderfully warm & nourishing, would definitely have again. service was just right… attentive, but not overly so.

This was, quite possibly, the worst lunch experience of my life. My wife and I arrived at about 1:15, and they were packed, due to some sort of gymnastics convention down the street at the DoubleTree. The hostess asked if it would be okay if she seated us in a room, which I thought sounded fine — until we got there and discovered that the room consisted of four tables all pushed together, filled with convention people, all talking loudly to be heard — and another table at the end, which had not been pushed together with the rest, which is where we were seated. We ordered a beverage, and waited for the waitress to return. When she did, and my wife and I both ordered sushi, she told us that sushi would be 30 – 45 minutes, but she recommended the lunch«bento box,» where you pick three items from a list, and pay $ 15. We requested a few more minutes to decide, which was a mistake, because 10 minutes later, I was beginning to think we should have just ordered the sushi anyway. At that point, my wife decided to leave so she could go back to work. A little while later, the waitress was in the room tending to the conventioneers when she saw me sitting in the distance, and a look of realization came to her: «Oh yes, I left him there a long time ago!» She came over, apologized for the delay, and I ordered the soba noodles with chicken(which, according to the menu, came with chicken, vegetables, and egg). When my meal was delivered, another 10 or so minutes later, I was struck by some sort of fishy smell. I dug through the bowl, and found several pieces of some sort of mystery fish(which was definitely not listed as an ingredient on the menu). I put one of these pieces of really fishy fish in my mouth, and immediately spit it out. I have no idea what sort of fish it was, but both the texture(think Styrofoam) and the flavor(think fishy Styrofoam) were truly awful. At this, I turned my attention to the chicken — which was ragged chunks of chicken strung together in the most unusual fashion — and had it not been for the fish-broth that it had absorbed, it would have been completely devoid of flavor. I took a bite of the half-a-boiled-egg, which tasted like a boiled egg that had been laying under a pile of haddock for the past day or so. The soba noodles themselves were not great, but they were the least offensive part of the dish — despite being a grayish-purple color. As for the vegetables, there was something akin to spinach, but it smelled like cooked cabbage and tasted like fish. I tried one of the slices of radish, and nearly gagged; it was the first — and hopefully last — time that I’d ever had a rubbery slice of radish. All in all, it was a big bowl of gross. As I write this, my stomach is beginning to knot up; I really, really hope it’s just from the memory of this experience…

Terrible service around noon! My friend and I have been sitting at a table for 30 minutes so far and all we’ve been offered is soda. She had to get the menus herself from the front desk because NOONE came to our table to greet us let alone take our order. I hope the management realizes that IFYOUCANNOTHANDLE as many people during peak hours the service with the number of servers/cooks you have, you’re offering the worst service ever to your patrons. Finally after 35 minutes, our server brought one out of the four rolls we ordered to take it away from us two minutes later and said«we’re going to fix this for you». This will be our last time here which has been our usual Thursday lunch spot.

Came here for dinner for the second time Monday night with coworkers. The restaurant is never very crowded and does not have a problem seating a big group with no reservation. No freebies here(edamame for the table they do not.) but they have a huge selection of very americanized sushi rolls. If I am feeling naughty I do the Golden Gate which is stuffed with shrimp tempura, avocado, and spicy mayo and therefore is awesome. If I am feeling committed to my diet I order the white tuna nigiri and Sunrise roll. The rolls are passable I am just not a fan of the diner-like, generic atmosphere and the latin music blaring in the background. Also the service is pretty hit or miss. Overall, a rather mediocre spot.

So I came here for the first time with my grandpa, it was our last resort. We wanted to go to phở viet on first street but parking was full, and he’s 100 years old so he can’t walk super far. So I tried looking for a spot near by the Matrix casino. We both had bento boxes, my teriyaki chicken was really dry even with the sauce. My lemonade tasted it like it came from the sewer. The salmon didn’t taste fresh, I was hoping and glad I didn’t get food poisoning. Overall I wouldn’t come back, not saying it was horrible. It was pretty pricey for a not so great place compared to great sushi spots in San Jose. I gave it a 3 star only because I thought customer service was great and courteous. Customer service 5⁄5 Food 2⁄5 Cleanliness 5⁄5 Parking during lunch hours not so great.

Quick lunch spot, reasonable prices, pretty good food. Healthy choice. I come here for lunch when I’m pressed for time and want a healthy meal. Not the best quality sushi, and haven’t been much impressed with the bento boxes. I will keep coming back.

Where to begin??? I will start with me. I actually read some of the reviews when I sat down but I still stayed. So my crappy lunch was my own fault because I didn’t trust my peers!!! Don’t make my mistake!!! Pretty much dead on with other reviewers. The sushi is SMALL. Salmon sushi tasted fair but the Unagi arrived cold and with poor taste. On the lunch combo I got Chicken Teriyaki, a pretty standard dish at a place like this. They even advertised«Homemade Teriyaki Sauce» in the menu. If you boast about it, it had better be good, but trust me theirs is not. Salad dressing on salad tasted like flavored mayo, one small bite and I was done. Th crazy thing was that the place was kind of busy, which is the only reason I stayed. Just don’t do it!

Came upon this place as a last resort on my way home. My mom and I were starving and so happy to find this place! They service was very attentive and friendly and our orders came out super fast! Our rolls were fantastic! I also ordered a few pieces of Maguro Sashimi and it was super fresh and tasted great! The prices were reasonable and our dinner came to about $ 45 dollars before tip. I would definitely come here again!

Very over priced sushi for mediocre quality. The older servers are not very friendly. Sad that this is the only sushi place in the area.

Honba Sushi is very nearby San Jose Airport. It’s small Japanese restaurant but there are many kind of sushi you can choose from the menu. We ate Golden Gate Roll(it was really delicious), Rainbow Roll and Nabe Udon(it make me warm). Before I went to San Jose Airport, I stopped by this restaurant and I ate above food. Nabe Udon with Golden Gate Roll were matched very well.

First impression not so good, empty, long wait for server, muzak seems to be playing two songs at once. Very brightly lit. Food arrived three courses at once, good thing Chirashi was the entrée. Food is ok, nothing surprising except perhaps the thinnest slices of fish I’ve ever been served, for about $ 20, it was ok, fresh & good tasting. Probably won’t go out of my way to return, very average, very, very average.

Had lunch at Honba Sushi last week because it’s within walking distance of the office. $ 20 for a frozen chirashi? How about no.

I came here during lunch time with my boss since our office is not far from here. This place has great affordable prices. I got a shrimp tempura roll and a dragon roll and only paid $ 14 plus a miso soup. CANBEATTHAT :) They are very clean and polite and I left SATISFIED since they were a DELISH. Will come back for sure!

The good: Conveniently located for we Technology Drive/Airport Parkway/First Street employees. We can walk there! Great online order/pick-up platform available Great selection of sushi with the added bonus of a picture menu Great edamame Plenty of seating Reasonably clean The average: Sushi is just meh The not so great: It’s expensive– I spent over $ 50 for lunch for 2 people and no beverages. The first time I ate there was after placing an online order. Employees passed me, came to the register where I waited and I was left standing there for at least 5 minutes before anyone made eye contact. A minimum«Be right with you» is all that was needed. The sad: The second time I dined in and ordered a Spider Roll thinking it was the one pictured. Unfortunately the one pictured was the«Super Spider Roll». So I ended up with a sad, boring order of sushi. The Spider Roll does not contain the good stuff like avocado. When I pointed out the omission I was promptly reminded«You ordered the Spider Roll» I wasn’t about to protest, «But I pointed to the picture of the Super Spider Roll when I ordered» because I could see she was defensive and rather than offering to bring me the item that I actually wanted, she became indignant. So I ate my just so-so Caterpillar Roll and left the uneaten bland Spider Roll on my plate. I get it, sushi is expensive and I screwed up. But the offer to make it right would have been nice. I might not have even accepted it, but to be all adamant like that-nah, I won’t be back there-not if I’m paying anyway. There’s other sushi in the sea, heh heh. This is a restaurant that does not need to be particularly service oriented because of the location, hello there’s like 6 lunch restaurants around. Plus they have two Tatami rooms which is quite a hit for those who like to take their shoes off and step down to sit around a large table.

One of the few local options if you work in the Airport/Skyport Parkway corporate park. Unfortunately it is not speedy for lunch and their service is as mediocre as it gets, but have had a few meals here with colleagues(but have walked out a few times after 10 min of brush offs as well) This is a typical American«Japanese» restaurant, with bento boxes and rolls and non-Japanese service. The food is actually fine when you finally get it. If you want real and/or good Japanese food, drive a mile down N 4th street to San Jose Japantown They also close by 2pm so be careful if you try to miss the lunch rush

Had the Dinner combo with salmon teriyaki, agedashi(friend tofu) and salmon nigiri. The agedashi was great, salmon tasted a bit dry and the nigiri was fine. Salad and soup were good. My friend got the chirashi bowl. He said it tasted okay, good value. They also offer lots of sushi rolls and the one I had was really good with the baked salmon like the lion king roll I had elsewhere. Since it’s by the SJ airport with lots of companies nearby, it’s a decent place for quick business lunch.
