Yes, service got a little bogged-down, but I challenge you to find food in the hotel that isn’t a little slow or overpriced. There’s only one sushi chef, and he is as efficient and methodical as one could ask for, given his popularity. The sushi was definitely worth it. I will probably be a repeat customer during my stay. The Cherry Blossom roll, miso soup, and edamame were great, and the rest of the wait staff were very sweet.

Damn good sushi. Better than expected. Overpriced, nonetheless. Wait staff was geologically slow.

Sushi is not bad, a little expensive but it is a hotel so kind of expected the higher cost. The sushi bar is attached to the lobby bar and the bartender tonight was awful. Not at all attentive and seemed put off about pouring a glass of wine. And it wasn’t just me, other patrons were irritated as well. I’d come back for the sushi, just not the wine(which was not very good either).

Wow! Didn’t know sushi could be served SO wrong. Serves me right for coming to a hotel-chain sushi establishment– and by «sushi», I mean to use that term quite loosely. The«maguro» was SOTHIN that the pebbles of rice were literally poking through. The ginger was so old, it failed the tangy-taste test. The chef was SO tight with the wasabi that I could’ve placed the globule of green on a dime and still have change. The Fat Tire beer on tap was ok, though not nearly cold enough. And worst yet, I stumbled into my seat and had to wait a full ten minutes for a menu. No exaggeration– a full ten minutes just to see the menu. THEN, the waitress literally jumped on me to make a decision! Couldn’t believe my ears! I only decided to eat here because the parking is $ 24 or something PERNIGHT! Was a crock! Hilton is fast becoming history in my travel books. Do yourself a favor and just go to Burger King, I’m sure the service is much better from a high school kid than here.

The sushi was good enough, but pretty pricey for the amount of food received.

The wakami salad was sizable and totally fresh! The atmosphere and service were very awesome! I love this hotel. The selection is pretty standard, not all that creative or whacky but the common type rolls and nigiri is way up there. Place is not cheap so bring a Franklin if you want to eat and actually be full! I go here and Spencers steak house next to it every time our coin club sponsors a show in this hotel. i even love the coffee/sandwich shop. It’s just plain really nice here and everything is fresh and they really try to be hospitable all over this Hotel. The eel and the salmon are the best here for two piece orders!

Stopped in at Doubletree and decided to try a snack here. I had a California Roll. It was good enough to warrant a return visit. The server was very pleasant and food arrived quickly after ordering. If you’re staying at Doubletree, or are here for a conference, this is a good option. I used to eat at the Coffee Garden but they’ve renamed it and it’s closed evenings. Frugal alert: This hotel has what I call ‘Roulette Parking.’ Parking rates aren’t on signage anywhere, so you drive into the lot not knowing what you’ll pay to get out. Doubletree is doing a system-wide transition to paid parking. If you drove here just to eat, you’d have to pay for parking. Their web site says hotel guests pay US$ 18 per day but restaurant customers pay some unknown, probably-lower rate. I hope it’s less than US$ 18!

I don’t know anything about sushi but the boyfriend ordered a plate of California Roll because he wanted his brother to try. His brother hasn’t been exposed to much so we’re having him try new things — he doesn’t eat seafood and neither does the boyfriend. myself included(haha) but somehow that was ordered and a plate of hot wings. The wings cost more than the rolls but the beer’s charge made up about 80% of the bill *yikes* I didn’t eat the wings but it looked crispy. It was deep fried and was presented on a plate w/2 dipping cups: one for hot sauce and one for ranch. The plate also came w/carrot and celery sticks sprinkled w/scallions on the top. The rolls were OK. I wasn’t a fan of it so we pretty much paid $ 7-$ 8 for nothing. The dessert was OK, too. I LOVE brownies, I LOVE ice cream so when I ordered their brownie ice cream thingy, of course it was love at first bite but for $ 8-$ 9 I was expecting a gigantic bowl of it but I forgot to factor in hotel rates. Service was OK. nothing stood out. Would I go back? Hell to the no.

Went in for a drink. It took a good 5 minutes before a server came to my table. She was very nice when she did get there. She took my drink order, suggested a double, whack I agreed to, and left. A few minutes later, and still with no drink another server came by and asked if I had been helped. I told her Maria had come by an taken my drink order and thanked her. She was back at my table within 30 seconds with my drink and said she was helping out! I was sitting about 5 feet from the bar. Maria brought bar snake right after. I finished my drink and asked for the check, which Maria brought right away. I then sat for 18 minutes waiting on her to come back and take my credit card. Unbelievable! Her tip was greatly affected! I also wrote a quick note and handed it to the F&B Supervisor as I was leaving. She happened to be behind the bar. My double Gentlemen Jack on the rocks was $ 20, which is nuts as I was drinking Blanton’s last night, which is much more expensive and a far better bourbon and was paying the same price! Obviously that wasn’t here! it’s a shame too because I am a HHonors member and would much rather spend my money at a Hilton property!

While the chef Jun is wonderful, as he’s personable and just generally makes you feel welcome this place is full of long waits(he’s the only chef), mixed up food orders and overly expensive sushi, some of which is listed on the menu, but they don’t carry anymore. Everything is about 3 + dollars more than it should be, case in point avocado rolls are about 8 bucks a pop and while they have a good amount of seating, it’s awkwardly placed so that you’re either facing a tv, stuck in a corner, being reached over or the waitress can’t get to your table. *Sigh* I wanted to like you Totoro.

We actually had a dessert(very good chocolate cake) and drink at the bar adjacent to the sushi spot. Service was so-so and music from the dance club was pouring over into the lobby area. Not terrible, but the music kinda sucked.

This place is awesome because of the Sushi Che Jun! Who also happens to be one of the most awesome guys on the planet. Everything is delicious here. I have NEVER had better service and although it’s pricey I come back every year for the experience. I sit at the sushi bar when I come! Very fun. The seaweed salad is really good. The hamachi is great, the tuna, the miso, pretty much everything. The sushi chef even drove us back to our hotel when he heard we took the train and walked there from another hotel! Hahaha. Seriously the best guy ever. I will never forget that experience and I love this place.

The sushi chef is very nice and he has an uphill battle since Doubletree doesn’t allow him to use their kitchen, so he has to bring everything in prepared first fresh daily from his other 2 restaurant locations. Chef could up his game by adding soy to the menu and providing real crab as an option. He could also remove the pre-fried shrimp tempura he brings in to do a few of the rolls. This is just fast-food sushi at higher prices. I probably won’t bother again.

I totally love this place as I totally love the hotel. I’ve never had a bad experience here and the staff has always been very friendly with me. I’ve had a couple of birthday celebration-dinners here and I’ve always had the same great quality sushi. Not to mention the sushi chef was fun and bubbly all the time. Just don’t order the baked sushis or fried sushis, it would take a long wait, unless you have the time to spare. Try to experience the sake bomb presentation, it’s awesome! But I wouldn’t recommend to drink it. LOL Beer and sake combined was a kick! Ambiance has always been relaxing, although tables and chairs aren’t big-group friendly. However, fun groups don’t always complain. We just dealt with what we could and had a blast. Try this place but be prepared with a budget. :-)

I just spent a rather unpleasant hour at the sushi place in the lobby. I’ll just give me my highlights and lowlights. Miso and Seaweed salad were pretty decent. 2 of the rolls we ordered had tempura which was microwaved then put into the roll. I like my tempura crispy. The«fresh» fish was served almost still frozen. No flavor. Not good. It was expensive. Don’t go here. I;m still hungry and there’s no money left for dinner.

I was very happy to find this little spot as I was walking through the lobby of the hotel. I was craving sushi BAD so I figured I’d give it a shot. Even though I only ordered some Miso soup and a CA roll, I was pleasantly surprised! The roll was fresh and delicious and the customer service was outstanding. Yay Chef Jun! The only complaint I have is that the Miso had little to no tofu/seaweed in it. I will overlook this detail, since it was still tasty. I recommend this spot if you’re staying at the hotel, but I would go to your favorite sushi place before going out of your way to eat here.

What? I thought I reviewed Sushi Totoro. Yes, this place is located in the lobby of the Doubletree Hotel near San Jose airport, but forget all that. I think this is a great little sushi spot. Sit at the sushi bar and you’ll have the most fun. Sushi Chef Jun is great and seems to remember all his regulars. I will admit, I was eager to eat here when I learned it was sushi TOTORO, only my favorite Miyazaki film and named after my favorite creature in the whole world!!! I was expecting to see Totoro everywhere. But nothing. No giant stuffed gray Totoro to greet me. No small blue Totoro chairs. No Totoro napkins, no Catbus booths, no soot sprites… simply a small outline of a totoro on the chopstick sleeve. After I got over that, I demanded Chef Jun to make me a Totoro roll and it better be good! He laughed and said, «are you sure? It is a BIG Totoro roll. «I said, «you can’t scare me.» And he made this beautiful avocado wrapped crab, unagi and spicy tuna roll cut into pieces and shaped to look like a totoro. Almost too pretty to eat. And he was right, it was a lot of sushi. There were some other pretty awesome looking rolls on the menu, like the Cherry Blossom roll and Triple Dragon roll, but after the totoro roll, I only had room for one uni nigiri.

Tried this convenient onsite sushi/sake bar at the Doubletree Hotel where we were staying and as sub-consciously expected, food was terrible and expensive. Yes — I thought it but still did it. The quality of the fish was poor — thin, left-over cuts. The miso soup was literally hot water and a half teaspoon of miso(no seaweed, green onion, or tofu) — bleh! Finally, the sweet shrimp, the sushi chef served it with the head, similar to other sushi places, but it came raw! ~ that was scary… One star for the ambiance. The bar was part of the hotel lobby overlooking the pool. Everything else — two thumbs down!
