I don’t understand how this place doesn’t have 5 stars across the board, I come here often for lunch during my work week. I LOVE these sandwiches! Soft bread, smoked cheddar cheese option… yum. Then the staff… super nice, down to earth folks. Always smiling, always there to greet you, say Hi. You can tell they are happy to call this restaurant home. Go… You’ll love it!

I love ordering my sandwiches on squaw. And this is the Only place that I know of that has squaw bread. I can’t believe I haven’t wrote a review. Came in today because I wanted something healthy well just not fast food. And I didn’t feel like cooking or waiting long for my food. So I wanted an ATC from submarinA. It’s turkey, avocado, and veggies. Speaking of veggies I love that they carry alfalfa sprouts. I add that with lettuce, onions, provolone cheese, light mayo and mustard, salt and pepper and wait for it… the Soucy Boom boom sauce. It just adds so much more flavor to the sandwich. Somethings I change up the cheese to pepper jack but not today. I’ve tried the other sandwiches but this by far is my favorite. Actually anything with avocado and squaw is my favorite. I’ll be back because this is my favorite sandwich joint to go to once a week or two.

Went on a Monday afternoon. Around 4 pm. Basically the only people in the restaurant were my boyfriend and I, so not busy at all. I haven’t been here in years. And by years i mean high school, which was a while ago. They sell sandwiches(of course), salads, wraps and I guess pizzas now. Ordered a regular sized turkey and roast beef sandwich with the works. No mustard or pickles of course. Not a fan. They cut the meat and cheese to order so it was very fresh. I love squaw so I was quite impressed that they carry squaw both in a roll or sliced. Not many sandwich places do. But it was a good amount of food. I’m still not sure how I feel about paying $ 8 for it though. Fairly clean but kinda disappointed that there were dirty tables seeing as how it wasn’t busy at all.

Omg! This is not the submarina I remember as a kid. Let’s just say I was shocked at my ticket price of $ 18 for just a cheese pizza and a cup of chili! I could have gotten a bigger pizza, better yet I could’ve gotten 3 of them from Domino’s for the price I paid. I was in the mall and needed to get a quick lunch for my son, and submarina was the closest. When I ordered the pizza they also had to see if it was ok to make one because they can’t make pizza before 2 pm. ??? Ok it was 1:35 pm though. The pizza was warm but overly seasoned with oregano and something spicy. The cup of chili was Luke warm and the cheese wasn’t remotely warm. Almost $ 20 wasted on food that was pretty gross. Most expensive junk ever! Not coming back.

The sandwiches are mediocre at best. Nice people. Way overpriced. Jersey Mikes makes a way better sandwich for about $ 2 less.

The sandwiches are good, however they are skimpy on meat and veggies. Expensive also. I got the smallest 6 inch with just a cup of water on the side and it was over $ 8! I was still hungry too after the kid size portion. I will stick to my $ 5-$ 6 foot-longs at Subway because I know I will be full when I am done.

Submarina has been in Mira Mesa for the longest time. I believe it was one of the original stores open here when my family and I moved to SD back in the day. I go here frequent every other week it seems for their extra large atc sandwich. Though before coming here for a sandwich, I used to go subway but then switched to Submarina after my pops asked me to get some for the fam for lunch. After that day, I usually just come here whenever I feel like getting a good sandwich. The workers are very friendly and same thing goes with the owners. I guess there’s a lot of people who go there frequently like myself because the owners are always having some small kind conversation with their customers including myself whenever they are paying for their sandwich as the register. The meats and ingredients are always fresh here, the workers are friendly, and their sandwiches are always on point for the most part which always brings me back.

OMG I love this Submarina!!! The owners and workers are so friendly :) the food is amazing I could eat them all the time!!! they have so many choices between sandwiches and of course you can make your own! They also have pizza and salads :) and they have this homemade Italian dressing that is to die for! I’d suggest getting alfalfa on your sandwich it is sooo good!!!

I just can’t seem to like this place. I’ve been here twice and got a different salad each time and ended up throwing half of it away. I love Subway and this place is just not as good… The staff is friendly but the food seems old and tasteless. And they seem to cut the avocado too early because both times it was soggy and brown. The décor is old looking and they seem to keep the lights off so it’s quite dark but there is a nice painted mural on the wall.

Worst service I’ve ever experienced at a food service location, not to mention worst Submarina franchise I’ve been to in San Diego, and I absolutely love Submarina, but the employees at this location are sloppy, basically threw everything on my sandwich and at me at the register. Very poor customer service and the manager was just sitting chatting with someone in the dining area while their employees were throwing sandwiches together and being rude to customers. Don’t waste your money at this location. The Serra Mesa and Rancho Bernardo owners have much better locations that put together a quality sandwich.

One thing that makes food that much more delicious is the service. Very professional and friendly workers. It’s always clean in there. If you’re looking for a quick sub and you’re in the area, this is the place. And no I don’t work here. I’ve just been in several times and I’m never disappointed.

Totally irritated by the service! To start the girl that took my order was new. It was actually her first day! Which I would’ve been ok with it if they would’ve told me that! Next she was told that she needed to mix all the ingredients together — -so she proceeded to mix everything together with her hands!!! Including the avocado!!! My salad was not a salad! I ended up leaving because I was just so hungry. But when I got to my office– because this was during my lunch break I opened my salad and it just looked disgusting! So I called the manager Sean-and told him about my experience-he said to go back and they would make a new one. When I got to the place he did not even come out to apologize or hear me out! Disliked this attitude!

Submarina has a special place in my heart, but since the Carmel Mountain location went out of business it’s hard to find another location with the same level of sandwich. This place does well enough, though I’m convined their bread isn’t quite as fresh. The service is pretty good and they keep the place clean. I don’t like the new loyalty system they’ve adopted, but if I’m in the area I’ll stop by for a Cali for old time’s sake. Get it with honey mustard and sprouts, it’s delicious.

I wasn’t impressed, but I wasn’t turned off either. I love how many different options of bread they have here. However, I haven’t tried a sandwich, haha, I had the asian chicken salad i believe it was called. Very good. The staff wasn’t all that talkative, but that’s okay. I had their sandwiches at a wedding party a couple weeks after this. they were pretty good.

Honestly, the lackluster reviews I just read about this store have got to be the whiny complainers that think that they must be treated as royalty anywhere they go and have no true understanding of the food service industry and my guess is they are not very good tippers anywhere they go. This is just my personal opinion after reading some of these reviews because I have been to this store and many other Submarina’s over the years and never had a complaint. Yes there is some little mom and pap shops here and there that make some great sandwiches, but if you want a big fresh sandwich that you can always trust to be good, go to Submarina!!! This store has always treated me great, I love the staff and the food is always what I expect from them. Sean has always been nice friendly and treated me well, never mind the hundreds of customers I have seen him help over the years. He knows his business well and he’s hired some great staff over the years. In the end, GOTOTHISSUBMARINA!!! They are worth it or I would not have given them what is likely in the thousands over the last 10 years because they deserved my business!

Honestly, I’m not totally impressed with Submarina or this location. We showed up around 7:30PM and the people working there seemed like they forgot how to make a sandwich. They were friendly and polite about our order so that helped ease the situation. Maybe they were training some newbies? Not sure. I got the oven roasted chicken sandwich and it tasted like something I could make at home. My boyfriend really likes the Santa Fe sandwich here and maybe the jalapeño bacon adds some extra uniqueness that mine was lacking. I probably won’t be back because I feel silly for spending $ 7 on an average sandwich.

I normally LOVE Submarina– it’s my go to sandwich place, but this Submarina is just Mehhh. I just paid 5.99 for a 6 inch Turkey sandwich with no additional add ons that cost extra. The price seems kinda high and I don’t ever remember a plain turkey sandwich with veggies ever costing 6 bucks??? Were the prices raised? This Submarina also doesn’t have the bell peppers, cucumbers or jalapeños out on display either as items to choose from– you have to ask for them specifically. Maybe to cut costs and make you think that they don’t have them? I don’t know. 2 stars because I normally love Submarina, but this particular store is just mehh.

I’m a fan of Submarina but the problem with franchises is that no store is the same. I had a terrible experience here when the owner treated me and my wife to a head shake, a stink eye, and a bewildered look to the other customers behind us during checkout because we asked for another fork since the one they gave us was placed in our salad, mixed in with the dressing. On top of that, the salad was 99% lettuce with measly chicken bites and what was basically avocado paste instead of any actual avocado. The owner also treated us like criminals when we wanted our frequent buyer card stamped asking about what the other store’s stamps meant. Avoid this Submarina, there are better stores to spend your money at.

Submarina has been very good to the Mira Mesa community over the years in terms of being civic-minded, and yet… I came in today feeling in the mood for a sandwich that wasn’t Subway, and I settled for an Albacore Tuna on toasted squaw bread with an order of Maui Onion kettle chips & a drink. Total cost for my order: a little over $ 9. Yes, Submarina does use fresher ingredients than most chains, and it’s hard to find a place that has squaw bread as an option. But, what’s the point of using fresh ingredients when you skimp on them? Seriously, my sandwich had the bare minimum of lettuce, tomato, sprouts, red onion(which I barely tasted), cucumber, and pickles. Even the sliced pepper jack I had on my sandwich was paltry. Say what you will about the big bad Subway, but at least they sure load up on the veggies. So, why the three-star? I could taste the tuna in my sandwich — using albacore tuna helped — and the Cucumber Wasabi sauce was definitely on point. Also, the staff were friendly; the owner was speaking with some of his regulars, and his wife rang up my order. And, that mural of Southern California along the wall is beautiful… But, unless Submarina is using gourmet, organic, and/or locally sourced ingredients, there’s no reason I can see myself paying the same price for something I can get at a place like Wich Addiction(where that price is justifiable). Think I’ll be back next time only if I have coupons.
