Found Jake & Eggs recently and it’s out of the world. Kimchi Rice is so good I don’t want the experience to end. Nice serving size but enough to carry out for next day feast!

Absolute gem of a breakfast place. The chilaquilles stack was out of this world. My hubby had the sweet potato which was fantastic. The poached eggs were perfect. Don’t miss out its worth the wait!

Gosh I feel like a traitor among the 4 and 5 star reviews this place has, but I have to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, the food was fresh and with a beautiful presentation and choice of ingredients, but I wasn’t completely blown away by the flavors. The chilaquiles were good but lacked that«THIS is why I wake up early on a Sunday morning» flavor to them. The french toast was definitely a bit too vanilla-y(honestly I liked the fruit on top much more). I think what rubs me in the wrong way about the food is that each dish seemed like it was trying so hard to be one step above extraordinary, but for whatever reason fell short. Great little back patio. Service was a little slow to take our order but great from then on out.

This place really should be called Jake & The Amazing F*ing Good Biscuits! My gal caught this hot new bfast spot, on Unilocal of course, and we wandered over to OB to see what all the hype was. We were kind of thrown off by the location seeing it’s an Indian Restaurant at night and Jake’s weekend mornings. So when you go to get a biscuit just look for the sandwich board sign out front. We have been here twice now and I have to say, Jake makes the best damn biscuit I have ever had! I have been all over the south(queue the Deliverance banjo) and nothing compares to Jake’s butter ladened carb tower with fancy jam! Sure throw in some herb sprig to amp up the show, but it’s not needed once it shows up with butter oozing from the inside. Okay, I should just end this review here. You have all the information you need to get your ass to Jake’s, but I will give you some more. Kimchi Fried Rice — Sure, why not!?! Love Kimchi, but now you want to throw in some bacon and put an fried egg on top? Your damn right it works and of course it’s awesome! Avocado Toast — Very good if you’re looking for a lighter bfast! I know, not much more to say. I like meat and potatoes! Biscuits and Gravy — Now we’re talking! The Amazing F*ing Good Biscuits drenched with sausage gravy(could use a little more meat) accompanied with perfectly seasoned potatoes and eggs. This meal could easily be shared. This is a tough review to do, we absolutely love this place, but we love that it’s still kinda unknown. Hopefully with the word getting out maybe this will eventually be it’s own restaurant open 7 days a week. Love seeing a great concept and execution do so well!

Seriously good food. It was extremely busy when we went on Sunday mid morning so we waited awhile since the place is pretty small but that isn’t their fault(how crazy is it how often people on here blame the restaurants for being popular?!). The three people in my party had three different brunch selections and all three were amazing.

Jake and Eggs… Best sausage gravy, biscuits, kimchi fried rice and Chilaquiles that I’ve had in a LONG time! The restaurant is cute, busy and clean. The wait staff are attentive, friendly and dedicated. The food was truly the most impressive. A perfect balance of texture and flavor… Especially if you like heat! I absolutely LOVED biscuit and home made jam that we had as an appetizer. This is definitely my new *favorite* breakfast spot in SD!

We have been here twice and it was delicious both times. its a small spot so there can be a wait sometimes, but it’s totally worth it. Mimosa, avocado toast, burrito and the scramble are all on point.

Jake & Eggs has been our go-to breakfast spot since they first opened. It is by far the best breakfast spot in OB. My personal favorites are the Breakfast Burrito and the Biscuits and Gravy. My boyfriend loves the French Toast and Kimchi Fried Rice. They also frequently offer specials that never disappoint. They serve great coffee from James Coffee Co. Service is always excellent. Highly recommended all around.

Came here with a few friends for brunch… First I find the concept of having a brunch ‘pop up’ place in the middle of an Indian Restaurant really smart… What a way to maximize the use of the restaurant which wouldn’t naturally have a brunch option! The place is pretty small, so not good for larger groups, but we were seated right away. The service was overall pretty good, my only complaint was that they came and took away the empty large bottle of water and never brought a new one… Otherwise they were friendly and helpful. The food was really impressive! My order was the eggs and toast with avocado and carmelized onions, and instead of the salad on top I asked for their seasoned potatoes. Overall the portion size was just perfect and I thought the flavors worked really well together. Everything was seasoned and toasted perfectly. My friends and I shared the brown butter muffin which was also good. Everyone enjoyed their food and for a small pop up place I think the quality was really high and the flavors were really well thought out.

I was really surprised, and really impressed, when I realized that Jake & Eggs is a weekend brunch pop up spot in the Sundara restaurant. I was intrigued and excited as I think Sundara is fantastic. Jake & Eggs follows suit. The one page menu hit all the favorites that you’d want for brunch. The prices are really reasonable, and the portions are large. Our server was great, too, which easily rounds this review out to a great big 5 on Unilocal

We are huge fans of this place. We’ve actually been there 3 times in 5 weeks because we like it so much. It’s so good that we’ve been doing brunch twice as much as usual in a place that we have to drive to. That’s saying a lot! Good service and like the staff and owners. The ingredients taste fresh and the flavors are excellent and punchy. My partner gets the kim chi fried rice every time and I either get the chiliquiles or the sweet potato hash. I love that they’re clear on the gf options too. The only thing I wish that they had is Bloody Marys but the mango mimosas are yummy. Maybe some rice wine vodka bloodies for next menu change?

Will be bake! The service was great! A pop-up breakfast spot inside the Sundara restaurant! Genius! The owners of both are best friends. Food was amazing. My daughter had the French toast(brick). Great flavors and the seasonal fruit was a plus compliment. The side biscuit and jam with thyme was a solid 10. I had the sweet potato hash with two poached eggs and avocados! OMG it was a party in my mouth. Pretty darn happy!

We really wanted to like this place, but it was virtually impossible. The two stars are for the décor and service, but based on the food I can’t give them more than that. We ordered the avocado toast and the veggie burrito. The toast was a mixture of items that didn’t seem compliment each other in any way. The onions were disgusting and we’re okay with onions… Just not on the avocado toast. The burrito was lacking, watery, and it was missing the potatoes. It lacked taste and it was super spicy. Maybe a goat cheese or something else to bring a burst of flavor would have made a difference. Also halfway through my burrito, I found a black hair. It was gross, but I took a picture to remind myself never to go back. I get it… Farm to table style food in a quaint environment, but this is what you get when the food isn’t very good. I want my 22 bucks back and also if I could get my morning back that would be great.

Well first off they forgot our order. Stuff happens though when you’re the second table to sit at an empty restaurant maybe someone should have noticed that before 25 minutes elapsed. They apologized and comped our food. The avocado toast was good, and sizable. Worth $ 9? Maybe 7 or 8. The caramelized onions on it were tasty but slightly too sweet for me. The French toast was good, but it was $ 10. For that amount of money you better double the serving size, because a single thick slice wasn’t gonna cut it. Food quality was good, above average for what we had. Service kinda failed us. Value? Nah really cutting it. Menu options? Bacon was pretty much the only meat available in addition to the eggs. Pretty sparse menu otherwise Would have gotten 3 stars if the food arrived on time.

This little café is located right off Sunset Cliffs in the Indian Sundara restaurant. They have a small window of business hours with only being open on the weekends for brunch time. The parking in Ocean Beach can be tricky as the day ages on, so after 11 you might be tough to find a spot. I’ve never been inside Sundara before, but the restaurant has a small front dining area and an outside area as well. It was way too cold this Saturday morning to sit outside, so I went for a table right inside. The service here was very prompt with them bringing out the menu right away and my coffee following it. Their menu( ) is quite small with only a handful of items, but they have a great unique variety of breakfast dishes. They serve local organic coffee from the local roaster James Coffee company located off India street downtown. You get a choice of either drip or cold brewed coffee. The drip brew was quite good with plenty of boldness to wake you up. Up front they have their brown butter muffins on display which caught my eye when I walked into the place. Each muffin was around two dollars and some change, they aren’t considerably the largest muffins but good for the price in my opinion. They come from the Bake Sale bakery in San Diego downtown. The muffin can be described more as a coffee cake type of pastry where it kind of crumbles off as you cut into it( ). The top is dusted with sugar and almost tasted like a hint of espresso flavor. The muffin went really well with the coffee and I enjoyed that it wasn’t overly sweetened with sugar. I also ordered their avocado toast( ) which was priced a little high at $ 9 for the order. The avocado toast comes with artisan bread, avocado and some fried egg on top. I do believe it’s worth the price though, it was extremely delicious and flavorful. The avocado was very ripe and fresh, they give you an entire small hass on top of your toast it seems like. The bread was soft, yet toasted on top to give a crispy texture along with the smooth avocado and runny egg yolk that comes out when you cut into it. The fried egg was cooked over medium, it wasn’t really too runny( ). The bread was almost like a multigrain and comes locally from Bread & Cie. Perhaps the best avocado toast I have ever tasted before, very good way to start the day with some healthy fats and protein. I enjoyed my breakfast at Jake & Eggs and really appreciated the quality of food they used here for my breakfast. I really didn’t note anything bad at all about this place, except the pricier menu. Everything I tasted here was on spot amazingly good and well worth the price though. I would definitely come back again to try out some more items, the Kimchi rice dish sounds very interesting for a breakfast item. Hopefully this place catches on and they move onto their own place sometime soon.

Parking wasn’t a huge issue because we parked 2 – 3 block away, I know there is a huge parking lot nearby that im sure you could abuse for your breakfast/brunch needs. Tucked away on a side street away from the busy main area of Ocean Beach is this quaint breakfast/brunch spot. While you’re not rubbing elbows with other people, it is small and intimate. I came here with a group of 5 girls which wasn’t too bad but I think anymore than that would be a bit uncomfortable. The first thing I noticed was how there was only a few things you could order off their menu. This made it really easy to decide and proves that they put a lot of thought into curating what they have to offer. I shared the biscuit and jam with a friend. The biscuit was light and flaky while the jam was sweet and delightful. You absolutely must try it! If I could, I would have just eaten 5 more of these. For the main, I had their Kimichi Fried Rice. At first I was a bit skeptical, but I was craving spicy that morning. It came out to be surprisingly good and it had a great balance of salty and spicy. I thought it was a genius idea to add bits of bacon. The portions didn’t look huge but it was definitely the right amount to satisfy your hunger. I also really love how conscious they are of those who have dietary restrictions, it’s pretty obvious that they put lot of love and care into their food!

What a quaint, organic-vibey, brekkie spot in OB. Came here with a group of 5 after an afternoon yoga session on Newport Ave. It’s literally a 5-minute walk from the busy strip of OB. I had their veggie burrito and their salsa verde was brilliant with it. I’ve had better veggie burritos, but I love that their food items were aware of people with dietary restrictions. Holla! My friends all raved about their kimchi bowls. Their food is definitely made with care – I could see that the sprig of thyme with the famous biscuits starter was placed purposefully with the amazing blueberry jam. We also heard that Jake & Eggs turns into an Indian spot after brunch time! That’s interesting, and I’m not too sure how that would work. But whatever floats their boat! The service was spectacular. All of the servers were timely, very considerate, and such beautiful people! Tip them well. I would totally recommend coming here for a brunch date or with a friend with whom you want to have an intimate convo with. The tables are close together, and because the space itself is small, it is inconvenient to have a large party dine here. There is room in the back patio for larger groups, but you really want to be inside the main area because of its fresh and clean ambiance.

Jake & Eggs got a lot of buzz during their first week, so my girlfriend and I went there on the second weekend of their opening. We really enjoyed the experience! We decided to forgo the Chiliquilis, which is rare for my sweetie as she loves them, and tried the Avocado Toast and the Breakfast Burrito. The Avocado Toast was fantastic! I haven’t had it before, and this version set a high bar. It consists of a thick slice of Bread & Cie toast topped with caramelized onions and sliced avocado topped with a soft-boiled egg. On top of that is a small salad of micro-greens tossed with a lemon vinaigrette. I will definitely get this again. Sadly, the Breakfast Burrito was lacking in bold flavor. It tasted fine, but I ended up using a lot of salsa just to spice it up. It’s made with a mild house-crafted Mexican cheese, but to be honest, I didn’t see or taste it at all. I don’t think this burrito is worth the $ 9 price. The service was outstanding! Our server was so friendly and pleasant, and she seemed to know most of the diners. Since I’m an OB local and this breakfast joint is in OB, I’m sure we’ll go back to see what other tasty morsels they create!

This place is definitely a pop up location that keeps showing its face every Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm serving up scrumptious brunch items in Sundara in Ocean Beach. I ordered a couple of items, including a house made biscuit and jam and avocado toast with a single over hard fried egg. The toast was $ 9 and the biscuit only $ 2. I paid $ 3 for unlimited refills of coffee from Jame’s Coffee Co. from Little Italy. The biscuit arrived first and it was quite good. The top had a great golden brown flaky crust and the dough is layered so the biscuit had layers of texture and goodness. The biscuit arrived nice and warm, was very moist, and surprisingly enough it did not come with a side of butter, but still was great on its own. However, I did notice it could of used a pinch of salt. I can only imagine how good these biscuits would served under some of their homemade gravy. The house jam that came on the side was very flavor and had smooth easy spread about it. It had a great berry flavor and was not to sweet, which was nice in my book. Oh yes, I appreciated the garnish of fresh thyme. It looked very nice and added a ice aromatic to the biscuit. The avocado toast was good. I really liked the artisanal toast underneath. The bread was dense and rustic with a great texture. Its flavor was of whole grains and natural seeds. I appreciated the copious amount of slice avocados they added to the toast, but I have a pet peeve about eateries serving avocado to customers with brown and black blemishes on the fruit as in this case. It not only does not taste very good but also does not look very appealing. After, I noticed it, I simply cut around it, removed it, and set it aside, something at the very least, they should of done. Anyways, the single fried egg was cooked to order as I requested and lightly seasoned. The toast came with a nice garnish of flavorful micro greens a top. Service was on point and so was the coffee provided by Jame’s Coffee Company. I hope they get their own location soon, because I will be there crunching down on them biscuits!
