Walked in 740am on a tuesday morning. The place was not packed and had a bright warm vibe! I felt like I walked into an artisan town lol they wear these awesome hair net hat things and take your order in line and hand you a slip then you walk up and pay. Ordered: 2 large sourdough bread. One latte. One ginger lemon scone. Avocado Benedict. Review: latte came out with a little cookie on top. It was delicious. The latte is not strong which I like. No bitter or bad after taste. The bread was very hard. I did not like that at all. Hard to cut, hard to chew. They offered to cut it there but I wanted to make slices at home. The scone was huge, not too sweet and pretty good. A little underwhelming on the taste for me personally. It had chunks of candied ginger or some form of ginger chunks. Avocado Benedict was pretty simple: bread, avocado, eggs, pepper. The bread was very hard, but I liked the actual simple favors. Verdict: I liked the place and will go back there. I’ll get the latter again but not too keen on the bread which is the whole reason I went there. If I buy it I’ll let you know how it goes! PS: I went there again on Wednesday and asked for a blueberry scone. That’s only made Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I think I have that right. On Wednesday they had apple walnut scones.

Nothing can beat a sunny Saturday morning sharing brunch with friends… especially when it’s at this delightful place. There are pastries and cookies and baked goods galore, as well as a whole slew of entrees and beverages. My choice: a Latte and a French Toast Panini(classic French white batard stuffed with mascarpone and a fruit compote, topped with fresh strawberries and crème fraîche, and accompanied by a little cup of REAL maple syrup). It was decadently delicious. The latte was perfect. My only complaint: they could have had someone bussing and wiping the tables. But, once I moved away a plate or two and a coffee cup, and whisked away the crumbs with a napkin, I hardly minded and thoroughly enjoyed my outdoor seating, eating, and people watching.

I called in after doing some quick research on «best san diego eclairs». After finding this bakery had stellar reviews and checking out the menu online, I sent them a ring on the landline. Being specific, I spoke with the lady whom answered the phone and said to her I was looking for«extravagant eclairs”(moms bday of course). To her knowledge hers were the best, I hung up the phone with extreme appreciation for her help and jumped in the truck. Going 20miles out of my way, I stopped in and took one look at the chilled glass display and was in shock. The eclairs were the size of my middle and pointer finger put together. With the $ 4 price tag and I’m assuming a short lived memory of two bites. I just couldnt get it passed my brain to hand over my credit card. What happened to the extravagant eclairs I was told about on the phone? I was impressed by the style of the shop and the openness/visual of the kitchen area. But man o man. Overpriced to the maximum. I instead opted for an overpriced cheesecake from the factory in fashion. Chased me away real quick bread and cie. Maybe next time.

I recommend Tiramisu, very creamy and delicious, and Cappuccino, milky foam over the rich espresso. The Opera cake was way too sweet, you can hardly taste the coffee infusion in the cake. I wonder what the sandwiches taste like… next time!

What I like about this place is the great service that the staff provides. You are greeted as soon as you walk in the door. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated. If asked, the owner will make you up a fresh batch of Challah french toast and eggs, no matter the time of day. They also offer take out, which is great on those days I am running low on supplies, and just don’t have the energy to go to the grocery store.

2 words: Breakfast Pizza!!! I love bread, who doesn’t love bread?!(well besides my jeans) Although this place is always packed and you can rarely find parking around or a table to enjoy your beverage it is worth it. There’s something about that little biscuit that comes with the cappuccino that just always makes me want to come back and let’s not forget about that breakfast pizza with that crispy bacon and that perfect yolk that you only think exists in your dreams. Sandwiches are good but I’m a sucker for a good old pb&j with cream cheese in it!!! Try it… You’re welcome ;) When I have the time I like getting my hamburger buns or baguettes from here, they do make a world of difference. Not the best customer service and I feel rushed when they take my order but I guess there’s just so many people coming by and that’s just the way they are, bah you’ll forget about it once you bite your bread!

It was our last day in sunny Sandiego and we were heading home to cold chicago. We had a flight to catch so we decided to have brunch before we went to the airport. We Unilocaled for best brunch place in san diego –and decided to go to «Snooze an AM Eatery». when we arrived at the place it was a hour + wait. We decided to check few places around and we liked this place. It was different, a full california style bakery with lots and lots of bread and pie. The vibe of the restaurant was different and we really liked it so we settle down for food. The customer service was good, as expected from a semi self service place. We started with creamy delicious soup which is one of the best tomato soup i have eaten, the bread was A+. My husband ordered egg bendict from special which he really liked and it had a cute presentation. I ordered a sandwitch -«Fresh Imported Mozzarella» which tasted real fresh and was good half way after which it was just too salty and same tone, i had to leave it. I also ordered freshly squeesed orange juice a real delight in the age of tropicana’s. I should have opted for the tasty pie’s on display or the variety of bread, leaving my sandwitch i enjoyed the place.

THEBESTGRILLEDCHEESE I HAVEEVERHAD. I ordered it paired with the tomato basil and that’s how I fell in love with this place. I’m not much of a grilled cheese person but for some reason I was craving it when I came in. I will never eat a grilled cheese anywhere else. Dipped my sandwich in the tomato soup. The perfect duo. Love this place. The bread is super fresh. Have taken a few loafs home for dinner and they are so yummy. Awesome prices!

Suuuuper cute place, high-ish prices, quality food. The interior reminds me of cafes in Europe! High ceilings, but cozy. Order first, get a receipt, then pay. On a rare rainy day in SD I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo. It comes out to over $ 9. It was delicious — the cheese was perfectly melted and the bread had melted Parmesan cheese on top. It’s a bit of a small portion but I wasn’t too hungry so it hit the spot for me. There are other combos where you can get a half sandwich + side of soup for $ 7.95. The grilled cheese comes with a full sandwich and soup. The tomato soup was perfect, thick, and a little chunky. Yummy! It was almost $ 10 though. Self-serve water is a nice convenience. The price point is a little high so if I was really hungry I couldn’t eat here, and it’s only open until 6 pm. Minus 1 star. We noticed some people having high tea and it looked so cute. I believe it’s $ 18/person. I am obsessed with tea and pastries so I’m def coming back to try it!

I’m ashamed it’s taken me this long to come to Bread & Cie. I’ve tried the chocolate croissants at the farmers market and loved them. But the café? Never been until today. It’s pretty busy on the weekends. Even with a load of people I was out the door with a freshly sliced french loaf and a raspberry and almond tart in mere minutes. That french loaf made the best panini I’ve ever made at home. If you’re driving by, grab a loaf!

If this place did not have a private parking lot, I would probably never make it. Street parking can be really tough. This place is a soup, sandwich, and baked goods paradise. Chicken curry sandwich, PB&J, macarons, and oatmeal apricot cookies are just some of the highlights. Lots of seating indoors and out. If you are lucky enough to live within walking distance or get a space in the lot, definitely do yourself a favor and go up on by Bread & Cie.

My friend and I came here for brunch and did not know what to expect at all since I’ve never even heard of this place before! When we came in, we had to order first and get our seats after. The employee lady recommended the Ham & Egg Benedict Basket so that’s what I got. I was really happy to try that because not only was it made nicely, but it was also very good! They made the bread shaped as a cupcake holder for the ham & egg Benedict to be placed right on top… it was super cute! The egg Benedict was perfect; it was made so it would melt right when I cut it. I definitely recommend this place for brunch! There was no wait and customer was excellent.

They have a case of incredible pastries and desserts for you to ogle while you wait for your coffee/meal. I’ve been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. The smoked salmon platter is particularly delicious and beautifully put together. However, you can’t really go wrong with anything you order, which for breakfast includes quiche, breakfast paninis, etc. It’s café style; you place your order, take a number and find a seat. It’s usually pretty bustling, but even in the busiest times, I’ve always been able to snag a seat. There is also a small front patio to enjoy a latte. Parking in the area can be a bit crowded, but go a few blocks over to Washington because street parking is a little bit more open.

Why did it take me so long to discover this bakery and café?! I needed bread for dinner and I didn’t want to settle for grocery store bread. When you walk in your greeted with the smell of fresh bread and baked goods. It was so hard to stay focused on what I came in to get. The pastry’s looked amazing, everything from colorful macaroons, different pies and cookies. They have an entire storage rack with different breads to choose from. AND it’s a café! I’m coming back for to try out their sandwiches for lunch. I ordered a French banquette and it smells as good as it tastes. I’m a fan be coming back for more.

I had my first Bread & Cie experience the other day, ordering a chocolate croissant(pain au chocolat if you’re feeling Frenchy) and a coffee. The chocolate croissant was perfect: flaky and crunchy exterior, buttery on the inside, and the chocolate was dark and only semi-sweet. Reminded me of some of the better ones I’ve had in France. The coffee was smooth and well-balanced, and I really like that they serve it in oversized cups. Their outdoor seating is nice; the patio is tiled, and there are some umbrellas to lend shade. Great spot for people watching on University Ave.

They have probably my favorite rendition of french toast: the french toast panini. Basically it’s the only thing I ever get here because anytime some one will serve me french toast at an awkward time like 4:30 pm(not long after I wake up on weekends) I can’t resist. It has nectarine slices on top which are perfect– don’t get me wrong– I usually hate fruits and other healthy-ish things in my sweets, but these just work. It used to be strawberries on top, which also worked, but the nectarines work even better. The sugary creamy goodness is drizzled over and also sandwiched INSIDE the«panini.»(No– you can’t hold this thing with your hands; it’s a knife and fork adventure just like any other french toast). Every time I order it, all the people passing by always ask«Excuse– I HAVE to know what that is!!» And it makes me feel very popular as I stuff my face with french toast at like 5pm. Thanks Bread and Cie

I felt this way before. Once. The treasure trove in the center of the baker’s boudoir takes my breath away. I see EVERYTHING. And I don’t know where to begin. I know I’m not the only one. I wait my turn. The gentleman here is so kind, so patient. I want honey and Brie. And now I will always want honey and Brie… on my Panini. At Bread & Cie. After…I enjoy the éclair with my latte. Then a string of pearls is boxed for me… the coveted macarons, which I take home along with fresh baked artisan bread created from a dream the baker had. And now I dream the baker’s dream… of bread at Bread & Cie.

UPDATE10÷22÷15: Dropping 2 stars from my original 5 stars to average out at 3, but if I could give 2−½, I would. Had lunch here earlier today with my daughter and the place was literally empty and fully staffed. Total came to $ 26.44 of my hard-earned money. Before reaching the order counter, I asked the blonde girl who usually works there(who I believe to be the manager) if the breakfast pizza was available at that time. She said, «Yes». But… When I ordered the breakfast pizza from the order taker, I was told«no».(I had viewed a laminated menu beforehand that said the b’fast pizza was available after 9:00am before I even ordered.) Fine. I then switched it to 2 curried chicken sandwiches to eat-in. I was polite and respectful during this ordering process, and made no fuss about the breakfast pizza’s unavailability. The sandwiches came out and the plates were not only incomplete, but both sandwiches sucked. They were dry, the chicken mixture was missing the water chestnuts, and they were overly loaded with raisins. Combined with the fig/anise bread, it was overkill. We have ordered this same sandwich many times before, and they were nothing like this time. They tasted ‘off’. Yuck! They also left out the pickles that usually come in a tiny cup with the sandwich, and sandwiches were also delivered with no utensils(they usually bring a fork). The cook herself(dark-haired, heavy set) brought out the sandwiches and plopped them down on the table. Clearly rude. I managed to choke down ½ of the overly dry curried sandwich, and couldn’t eat the rest. My daughter returned her dry sandwich and swapped it for a grilled cheese/tomato soup combo(same price). She waited while I was already done with my sandwich… and waited. During this long waiting time, the cook was quite PO’d, because we heard her questioning«why» the sandwich was being replaced. It was clear she didn’t want to make anything else, and had a ridiculously uncalled for attitude about it. As the snide comments continued with her male co-worker, I had had enough, so I decided to just ask for a refund on the sandwich. The manager handled this part, and as I was at the register, the same cook quickly rushed to finally bring out the sandwich. We thought all was okay, but when we looked at the sandwich, it was a grilled cheese… BUT! It had a small amount of egg white cooked onto the outside of the bread. Who knows what else the cook did to the sandwich? She was cackling in the kitchen like a loon while she was making it. I asked for a refund from manager girl, and she handed me the incorrect amount. She gave me back my money, LESS the tax. Uncool. I called it to her attention, she gave me a dirty look and handed me an extra dollar. I don’t need to patronize any restaurant that has no respect for people. I refuse to be treated this way, and will not return. Bread & Cie lost me as a customer today, and I get the feeling they don’t even care. I can afford it, but I’m taking my business elsewhere. It’s a lot of high-priced food that’s gone down the tubes. ____________ I’m so happy yet so mad at myself for not getting a picture of my chocolate éclair, but I gobbled it up so fast no one even knew I ate it all!!! It was delicious! It’s custard filling was smooth, with just the right amount of sweetness to it. My curried chicken sandwich, on the fig and anise bread was fabulous. I highly recommend it. I also got a mini-cream-puff to try, and it was great. I only wished it was bigger. Ha-ha.

If I wasn’t opposed to clothes shopping, I could see myself buying two of everything in here and not giving a damn about the inevitable 20 pound weight gain. It’s true, I lack self control when it comes to baked goods; and the baked goods here are exquisite. I wanted to gather every lemon flavored treat in the case and hug it to my chest. I stared longingly at the enormous and flaky croissants, just glistening in their butter coating. Ahh. They were whispering to me, «pick me, pick meee!» Then I spied those peanut butter bars. Oh. My. Goodness. What beautiful person baked these?! I wanted to ask if they came in a jumbo size, but I refrained, because I was worried I might actually be drooling at this point. There was a bit of a line when we arrived. It moved pretty quick though. The guy that served us was really friendly and had a nice smile. He didn’t just help me though, he assisted my son as well, and was patient with him. My son has special needs and has a speech impediment, I thought he was great with him. Not everyone gives him the time to finish speaking, especially when it’s busy, so I did appreciate the courtesy. We got our items to go. We stopped in before we had breakfast nearby so we were planning to enjoy them later, and boy did we. There was a battle to the death over that peanut butter bar! Can I just say the cinnamon croissant is sublime. I could easily eat one everyday and never tire of it. My son berated me for not buying two peanut butter bars, so I guess we’ll be back soon!

I love fresh bread and this is the store to get it from. When you walk in, the bread is showcased in the shelves behind the desk. There is also a large array of fresh baked goods in the display that all deserve a taste. The service is very quick, even with long lines. My suggestion would be to try any quiche that they have on display, it is amazing. Perfectly cooked and well-balanced. And their watermelon lemonade is amazing, not too sweet, but packed with watermelon flavor

What a lovely place to get a nice lunch or dessert whether alone or with a friend! They have a small parking lot(right next to Luna Grill) so you don’t have to worry about the terrible street parking situation in that area! The place is easy to miss, just remember it’s across the street from Project Pie. Inside, they have bunches of tables if you decide to eat there. I ended up getting the California Muffuletta, which is a grilled panini with genoa salami, roasted peppers, olive tapenade, basil, and provolone on a Ciabatta roll for $ 9. The flavor combinations were delicious and the bread was nice and crisp. My friend got the cheese plate which came with baked brie, a baguette, and fruit. I also got the watermelon lemonade for $ 4. Too bad I was too full because I was looking forward to getting the blueberry cheesecake! Next time for sure!

Came in while taking a break from our«7 bridge walk»… Yummy baked breads and pastries. Coffee and teas as well. Service is friendly and a little fast paced. We ordered and paid at the counter, grabbed our stuff, and took a seat outside. There’s also plenty of tables inside. The bran muffin and a subtle buttery sweet taste. Soft and moist. Their scone too, was moist and not too sweet. I enjoyed a jasmine tea with it. I tried their granola bar later at home. Mostly crunchy with a slight chewiness, just sweet enough. I would love to come back again to try their other baked goods and breads. Street parking, not too far from the Hillcrest sign. Around 930 on a weekday morning. Lively with a constant short line, but not terribly busy.

Good food, mediocre service. It was pretty full on a Saturday morning when we went, and we had a group of 5. It’s an order at the counter and seat yourself type of place. However, it’s confusing to order and you have to know that theres a line where they take your order, a place to pick up certain food items(coffee, pastries, bread), and a place to pay. All this gets done before you seat yourself. It seems the system isn’t that great… because when we ordered, they didn’t get one of our items(cobb panini). So we ended up sitting down and waiting for it before realizing they hadn’t even charged us for the sandwich. Very inconvenient as all of us had already received our food and had to go wait in line again to get the one last order. Aside from that mishap, the food was great! I had the flakiest chocolate croissant EVER here! In doing so, I made a huge mess(which I cleaned up of course). This is the type of thing I’ll be craving until I get to come back! Iced coffees were good, hot coffee comes in a nice mug with a small cookie, and yogurt parfait has a tart flavor. The spinach feta quiche was a nice addition to the sweet pastries, it was light and had a thin crust. One of us ordered the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin which actually turned out to be full of raisins! Beware. We ended up taking some bread home(they have tons!) as well as their house made granola. It’s fun to come in here because you can order in, or take it to go. It’s a little too crowded and loud in here to relax and read a book, more of a place to come and chat with friends. Cute décor, good food, and lots of seating!
