The food here is AMAZING. Everyone must try their Chrashi bowl it really is worth every penny. The frushi roll which includes strawberries and mango drizzled with kiwi sauce is very special and very tasty as well! A must try.

I absolutely love Yellowfish and usually visit the original location. Tried this place out when I was further up Huebner. Their space is much more open compared to the other location which sort of sits like a tiny drive through. They have a nice bar area as well as tables. Bright and clean! Service is friendly and efficient. The sushi is oishi! I don’t have much else to add. Favorites: c-roll and chirashi bowl!

My wife and I have eaten at this location or gotten take out over a dozen times since it opened a few months ago. The fish here is consistently very fresh, the service is generally decent, but those are really the only consistent things about it. Our main problems have been as follows: 1. The sushi is often poorly made and falls apart when you pick it up with chop sticks, which is annoying. 2. The rolls frequently lack a sufficient amount of the main ingredient. Example: we ordered a roll with tempura shrimp. After one of the pieces fell apart, I picked up what was supposed to be shrimp, but it was just a thin piece of tempura with a little shrimp flavor. This happens a lot with shrimp rolls, sometimes the fish rolls are lacking as well. 3. Too many of the rolls have cream cheese. It’s a little bit ridiculous when you look down the menu and see cream cheese in almost every roll. Most of the rolls would be just fine without it. 4. The music has been absurdly loud in the past, although I think this has gotten better. I would have given this place 4 stars except for a bad take out experience last week. I tried to call in an order. I called probably 30 times over the course of an hour, but kept getting a busy signal because the phone had been intentionally left off the hook when the restaurant got busy. I finally placed an online order(which you stupidly have to make an account to do). When we started eating the rolls, the rice was not cooked properly. It was mushy on the outside and hard on the inside… it was disgusting and completely inexcusable for a sushi place. Overall, it’s ok, but has some major flaws.

Absolutely the best sushi place! I come here just about every week. All my friends love it too. I have yet to come with someone that didn’t just love the food! Highly recommend

Fast, fresh, and a little spicy, love the spicy sauce they add to the rolls. I had the yellow fish roll and was very happy I choose it, will return!

I actually work not far from this sushi place I just started eating sushi about 2 yrs ago so I’m rather picky. I really like the tempura rolls with salmon avacado cream cheese and Tampico sauce. Really good and fresh. Employees are regularly sweet. They even bring my food to me next door sometimes.

Yellowfish has fused Japanese and Mexican into a delicious way. This is my new go to place. Eat in or take out.

The food here is excellent! But buyer beware, the Mexican flare on this Japanese tradition is fantastic! Not only is the fish fresh and high quality but the service is stellar. You start by walking into a modern, yet tasteful dining area and are greeted by friendly and quality staff. You pick your seat and you are off to the races! The menu is huge. So many options! Beware the spice. If you are a wimp to spicy foods go for a roll with a cream cheese add-in. My wife loved it and she is a spice wimp. Bring a little extra cash or several sushi loving friends so you can try loads of the deliciousness that they serve. Swap and share and best of all enjoy! I will definitely be back!

The best sushi in SA hands down. The restaurant is always very clean and the food tastes ridiculously fresh every single time. I highly recommend the Yellowfish Roll for a nice raw roll that captures the whole«Japamex» fusion. For a fried roll, I recommend the creamy, melt –in –your-mouth Urbano Roll. And for a nice fresh classic-tasting roll, go with the Roadrunner Roll. The staff and service is wonderful, as well. This place is such a gem.

3.75 stars. STYLE: Yellowfish is a casual sushi restaurant near Shavano Park offering an assortment of classic sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and signature selections with a distinct Mexican flair. MOSTSIMILAREASTCOASTCOMPARISON: Ikko Sushi, Silver Spring, MD … Yellowfish opened their second San Antonio location in a shopping center outside the 1604 loop, and you can find their interesting mix of JapaMex rolls in an unassuming space off Shavano Park. Currently, they offer over 20 rolls mostly with some variety of salmon, tuna(including, quite obviously, yellowfin), and eel. For a bit of novelty, many of the rolls involve some Mexican elements, although usually this boils down to the addition of picante, monterrey cheese, or jalapenos. As was suggested by another Unilocaler at their first location, this is probably a better location if you want sushi rolls as opposed to nigiri/sashimi(superior quality of fish elsewhere, greater selection). That said, its fine for rolls; the amount of food you receive per roll is well above standard, and the prices are not prohibitive. By way of comparison, the rolls here are about tenfold better than what you would find as Sushi Zushi, and you are paying a very comparable price. If you are interested in a casual sushi dining experience, then Yellowfish Sushi is a solid bet.

As good as the original, but a heck of a lot closer to me. I’m all-in for Yellowfish! Like the original, this place reminds me a lot of a few places I really enjoyed back in California. It really has the same feel, both in the atmosphere and the rolls. Creative, fresh and tasty, with some pretty darn innovative deals, too. It’s a little small here, so I can see this place getting packed. I was extremely lucky to find this place pretty empty during lunch not long ago, so I was a pretty happy guy. I doubt it will STAY empty though. It’s the best sushi I’ve had in San Antonio, and I doubt I’ll find better.

One of my favorite places to get sushi from ! The staff is very friendly and the environment is modern-ish and laid back. The wait isn’t too long and even if it was, the wait would be worth it. The server was nice enough to package our food.

Now with two locations… Enjoyed the first one and the sequel is just as good if not better. The venue definitely has more of an open layout and planning to it allowing for larger groups of people. Located within a strip mall area it can be a bit difficult to find but definitely well worth the hunt. The rolls and sushi are a bit of Mexican and Japanese fusion to which they have knighted it «JapaMex». An interesting name but definitely fitting. Most places make their rolls spicy by just adding spicy mayo, aka mayo with sriracha, Yellowfish goes above and beyond with added peppers and seasoning to give a mixing of two different cultural food icons. I’ve been going here for about a year and don’t see myself changing that anytime soon. Love the food and continue to do so. So if you like spicy and sushi… this is a place for you.
