So I rarely ever give a restaurant a low rating. But this has to be the worst place to meet at if you have a meeting. We called almost 6 weeks to reserve a private room for a meeting with our organization. Common sense says that if you make a reservation it should be honored. Apparently, there was a 10 top group still in the area my group was supposed to be seated. The biggest problem was not the group(who was obviously taking their time) but it was the manager Javier who does not know how to manage customers. He was rude, unconcerned for the mess that he put our group was in, he would not let us speak, and lied to us. For a manager to tell us that we can contact his bosses and try and get him fired, he should not be a manager. The only one bright star in this dark dismal place was Brittany(may be misspelled, the receipt says Britt)! This server was such an amazing person. Thank you to her for trying to make us feel better despite the circumstances your Manger put us in. The one star in this review is only for Britt our server!

We dropped in for dinner and the Lion & Rose never disappoints. We heard on 930AM Radio that The Jameson BBQ Burger was great… Man, I am so glad that we tried it. It was amazing. I usually have ordered the fish and chips which are the best in San Antonio… Now I know the burgers are terrific as well. My wife LOVES the French Onion Soup. The service is always good here.

I had a hankering for fish & chips, so I stopped in the lion & the rose for the first time. It was early on a Saturday evening and the place was fairly empty, which for me, is perfect. I hate waiting for food. That’s the worst. The ambiance is chill and inviting. The park north location is spacious. They have a limited draft selection which is fairly sad. I mean, it’s better than most – you’ll definitely find your staples here(bud, dos, Miller, etc) but I wish they would fully expand their craft beer selection. They have some, mostly bottles, but not nearly enough for my liking. The food was just ok. I mean you can’t really do fish and chips poorly, so there’s that. I like texture on fried fish and fries. The problem with lion & the rose, and I really hope a manager is reading, is how they plate their dish. The fish sits atop a pile of fries in a mesh wire basket. If you push your fries out of the way so as to cut the fish, you poke through the paper layer that separates the metal basket from the food. It makes it unnecessarily DIFFICULT to cut your food. If you leave the fish atop the fries you end up with soggy fries. This is totally avoidable by just plating the meal differently. My meal was a soggy mess by the end of the evening. The worst part is that the food was fine as far as taste goes but the sogginess just ruins it for me. When you eat fish and chips you expect crunch. You need that texture as it makes a fairly pedestrian meal better. I sat at the bar and my server, Mandy, was attentive. I did witness several patrons have to come up to the bar to flag down someone to get their waitress’ attention. In a fairly empty place with servers literally standing around and doing busy work, this is really unacceptable. The bartender didn’t know how to make a simple«green tea» shot but was helped out by the patron who ordered it. I’m not even a bartender and know what goes in that shot. To her credit, though, she made it well as the dudes who ordered it seemed pleased. I suspect that often happens when folks order odd drinks/shots but this one is fairly run of the mill. Look, I’d say the lion and rose is a fine, albeit commercial joint if you want a quick meal and beer before you go to the comedy club or whatever. I think the management has to really think about how they plate their simple fair because it’ll make a mountain of difference in terms of consumer satisfaction. I’d prolly come back if I’m in the area but have a hard time recommending this rather average establishment. Other than the British theme(which is really in name only), there’s literally nothing that differentiates the lion and the rose from twin peaks, chilis, Applebee’s, or any other sort of casual chain restaurant. It’s that milk toast. In a such a crowded market space, I don’t see how faux«British pub fare» separates itself from the pack.

I will make this clear! I will not ever give this place anymore of my business!!! After going to find out whether we could have a tv tuned into the Penguins vs Capitals Stanley cup playoff game on the hostess told me NO! I understand that the Spurs were also playing against the Thunder at the same time, but for them to tell a customer no like that was very piss poor customer service. The business is there to cater to the customer and that was the first time I’ve ever had a business do that! Also when I called the manager about it he apologized and began to tell me that cuz the Spurs game was on that they would not change the channel on any of the TV’s. Absolutely shitty customer service and I will never spend any money that location ever again!

Leaning more on the Pub side I would agree from a previous reviewer that the fish and chips is really really good. The staff is kind. Didn’t know what a pomegranate Cosmo should be and the chicken wings were unmemorable.

If I’m craving good pub food and nice conversation then I head to the lion and the rose pub. Chips and Guinness cheese are is my favorite appetizer and probably the best burger is the Jameson BBQ burger. They have a layered drink called the Black Velvet which is angry orchard cider layered with Guinness on top.

Food was good. Portions we a little small. The sausage was a little bland and needed mustard. But very good after that. The potatoes were awesome but like I mentioned the portions were small.

Great tasting food. Had the the open-face sandwich w/roast beef –n– chips, the mix of mashed potatoes gravy and the rostbeef was great. The gravy really brought it all together. The pickled sliced potatoes were a little plain for me. Over all price was high for me, but a good meal.

Just got off of work. Decided to come in and relax for a beer and food. Even though I got here late and the kitchen was closed our Bartender Marsha was still able to get me at least some chips from the back with some cheese that was very kind even though I said no its okay. Always a joy to talk to such a nice person. Even though it was dead slow she kept us entertained. Always a pleasure to come here.

* Review for Geek Girl Brunch San Antonio( ) This was a suggestion from of our officers, originally for Harry Potter Brunch but many other since have been hosted in their back room. This is a great local for anything geeky as even the wait staff loves to get in on it, joking and having a blast. The food is amazing, well priced, and worth trying any manner of new things. Their mimosa’s are reasonably priced and their Irish Breakfast, which has been tried by more and more girls as we come back, is the Bee’s Knees. We will definitely be keeping this on in the books for future events! A++ Food A++ Enviroment A++ Service A++ Business Parternship

AMAZING! We had ZERO issues. We were seated quickly, no wait on a Friday night. Our waitress, Cynthia, was great! Cynthia helped me pick two beers to try and I enjoyed both of them. The chips and peels appetizer was sooo good. After reading reviews about the fish and chips and speaking with friends we ordered ours extra crispy. They came out hot, fresh, crispy and so delicious! We had an amazing time on our date night and we will be back. I strongly recommend you come here and ask for Cynthia to be your waitress!!!

Three stars for atmosphere. Food is not much to rave of. It’s okay. This is a place to go to to enjoy a comfortable atmosphere and some drinks. The food is a secondary.

Eh, it’s fine. The service was fine. The meal was fine. The beer was fine. The TVs were small and their placement annoyed me. Also, the sound of football games were muffled so it always seems like there’s a party going on in the other room and you can’t get to it. It was so fine we left and crossed it off our list as «tried it». Not our football home but we’re continuing on our journey.

So glad to have found this Lion and the Rose! The service by our waitress was great! That is not the norm for the Alamo Heights location. It also does not allow smoking which I know is a big deal for some people. I had the chicken pot pie and it hit the spot. I also love the chips and petals. The beer selection was okay since they didn’t some on tap. This is not a reason for me to be discouraged as I know this can be a problem with the supplier. Great overall!

Always have a great time here! Try their fish and chips. Chips are amazing and that homemade sauce for them is just as good. I’ve been going for like 5 years and have never been disappointed. The waitresses are always nice and get you the food quickly! Great hurricanes too for you drink lovers! Open till 2am almost always. Some night have a specific event too! I always enjoy playing darts or listening to karaōke! Would give it 5 stars but the restrooms really need some love in the clean department. Cheers!

Good beer, good food, feels pretty authentic I’d say. Nice pub atmosphere. Had wings and corned beef and cabbage, along with a pint of boddingtons — wasn’t disappointed. Overall pretty good place!

I enjoy the new menu however the wing proportions as I eat them all the time are really small now. I moved on to the London broil which is just excellent but I wish the wing sizes were back. The service is always still excellent. It makes sense since they train the new managers here to learn from the best. I’m gonna miss Taylor and kaylee when they move on to the new location. Luckily we get to keep ally and Dave. Bartenders are of course still my favorite. Stacy Marsha Krissy just rule the nights. I’ve never seen better bartenders and I travel for work and this is my baseline.

Every time that I’ve come here, I get great service and food. Lion and the Rose the best bar food I’ve ever had. The Guinness cheese and chips are to die for and their grilled cheese is super delicious. I know you’re thinking, «what? Grilled cheese?». But seriously, it’s good! Be sure to add tomato and bacon! Their soup is also perfect. I used to go to amother location years ago in the cold winter months and the soup will make you feel 100% when you have a cold. Their beer on tap in amazing too. I always get Shiner and never regret it!

I get a real craving for chips and curry sometimes and nothing but Lion and The Rose will do. The sticky toffee cake is yummy too so save room for dessert and I always enjoy the Scotch Eggs as well. We always eat outside so I mainly go during good weather & bring my dogs. Its nice they have a patio area at this location. At times service can be hit or miss but it has been really on before, tip top and at other times we get the B team. Only human I suppose we all have off days. Recently though, my waitress went above and beyond though making sure I got my toffee pudding that I had forgotten on the table and chased me down to my vehicle & I was so thankful for that. She gave great service too and had a genuinely gracious attitude. I wish I had remembered her name but my memory is a little foggy after a long work week but she had dark hair and a olive complexion, if you have her as your waitress you are in good hands my friend. Enjoy your dinner.
