Good food in a good location. Parking can be a hassle. Not much to review. Just a good, quick Mexican food joint in downtown.

Visited from out of state. I’m not a very picky diner at all, but I got very bad FOODPOISONING from this place(I had the puffy tacos). I had horrible stomach pain and diarrhea the next day and much of the day after. Waitress seemed very disinterested in serving us, we asked for some more tortillas and she never returned with them, never checked back to see how we were doing until she brought the check. We were sitting outside so we couldn’t flag her down without getting up and going inside. Stale, tasteless tortilla chips, and VERY greasy puffy tacos. avoid this place folks, you can do much better! Pros: Good beans, cheap margaritas and flour tortillas Cons: Food poisoning, non-existent customer service,

Their Al Pastor taco plate is TODIE for! Very authentic, not greasy, Mexican food with a nod to the mod. I recommend it! Just know you will smell like a tortilla factory for the rest of the day…

Taco G is the place to get a great drink in the morning after work … if you are a night shifter. The staff here is very friendly, and very quick. I don’t venture out much, usually stick to the ol bean and cheese tacos. The salsa is roasted and amazing. If you have a friend or two and want to get a taste of all they have to offer(rita wise)… order the v12. It’s amazing. ** side note. Ive had breakfast and ritas many many times, and today was not good :(But the tacos were cold, the rita tasted like old bath water, and they were super slow. I was super disappointed. One bad day won’t keep me away… but let’s hope it was just a bad day and not the beginning of the end.

«Rage Against the Tortilla Machine». With slogans like that, how can you not like this place? The food and ambiance fall hand in hand. Grass roots type of operation with very good tex-mex. We’ll definitely be back.

Recently discovered this place driving thru downtown on the way back to my(new) office. Tried it this AM and have a list of Pro’s & Con’s to discuss: PRO’S: 1) close to my office 2) super cheap amazing breakfast taco specials 3) big fat loaded tacos 4) fast and friendly service CON’S: 1) parking stinks 2) they up-charge for everything What do I mean by up-charge? I am used to places charging me for cheese or guacamole on my tacos. Fine by me. But you’re gonna charge us .25 per taco to add cilantro?! You’re going to charge me an additional .50 for pico de gallo? Really Taco Garage?! That just cost you a star. Like I’ve said above-the tacos were quite tasty and I highly recommend their migas taco, it was by far my fav in a sea of flavorful tacos. But they nickel and dime you for every little thing, and that left a bad taste in my mouth(see what I did there folks? Comedy!) Now I will be back and I will be back often, but I will still have umbrage with the up charging.

Ever since my friend moved in to the building we’ve called Taco Garage our kitchen. Not because we cook there, because there’s no grocery stores for miles and TG is the next best thing downstairs so we eat there often! We eat there so often I’m positive we ate breakfast and dinner there twice in three days. This can only mean one thing… This place is the tits. The wait staff is amazing, amazing, amazing! You talk to them, they talk to you. They bring 6 small shot glasses of their assorted margaritas. You pick favorite one. You order next time bigger version. You swap stories, tell jokes, you bond. Its a win win. So we fell in love with the shrimp tacos, the beef fajita taco(more like burrito!), the home made corn tortillas, the queso de flameado(fried queso with chorizo-I think), the margarites! the beers! The whiskey! The guac! The barbacoa and big red! I could go on and on. My last visit seriously made my jaw drop. Our waitress whom we’ve only known a month, came up to my daughter, started talking to her in Spanish(because my girls fluent) and literally brought all the fixings for bean and cheese tacos and served her as if she was her own. Some parents might say«Hey! That’s my job!» or you could be like me(sometimes slacking on Sundays when socializing with tourists and other regulars) and say«Wow, you’re the best!» Because I know she really cares. Plus, she’s the best! Downtown Taco Garage you complete me Friday through Sunday.

I live close, so I have been here close to 15x. It is very reasonably priced & has a friendly, quick staff. The food though, does tend to be greasy. The highlights would be the fish tacos, sopapillas, margaritas & chicken fajitas. If your looking for a quick inexpensive taco & don’t mind the grease– this is the place.

Before I decided to write my review, I took a look at what other people had to say… and I was kind of surprised. My experience at the Taco Garage was, well, relatively unpleasant to say the least. The food itself was alright. I got the fish tacos, and though the tilapia was slightly overcooked, they were still pretty good. A friend of mine got nachos, and her only complaint was that there was too much cheese(which I do not consider a valid argument with nachos), and another friend got a plate of something that i cannot recall the name of, but looked rather gross and apparently followed suit with taste. The real issue with my experience, however, was the service. Three of my friends and I had left the Habitat for Humanity warehouse where we were doing service on a lunch break, and tried to find the least busy place down town where we could eat. There were like two tables filled in the Taco Garage, so we settled on going there. First off, it took our waitress almost ten minutes to come ask what we wanted to drink. When she came over she told us she didn’t realize we were her table at first. Then the proceeded to take an equally absurd amount of time to bring the drinks, we had to ask for our own chips, then again for the salsa, then when our food was finally brought out she brought us spoons as the only form of silverware saying that was all they had and never brought us napkins, even after they were asked for explicity. Hopefully, this server was just having a bad day, because she has earned the Taco Garage a whopping one star. I have, however, heard from several people that the location on Broadway has much better service and is delicious. So honestly, this place might be worth a try. Hopefully my negative experience is tied only to my horrible waitress.

The service at Taco Garage is top notch. Additionally, I found their top shelf frozen margarita with prickly pear to be a delight. I ordered the al pastor tacos off the appetizer menu. The portion was generous and the price was reasonable. 4 small tacos with chopped onions and cilantro and a small bowl of beans. The food wasn’t great and it wasn’t bad. It was just kinda not very flavorful. I did love the place a lot(décor, staff, drinks) so I plan on going back. I’d like to try the enchiladas next time. I will be sure to update.

Homemade flour and corn tortillas! And they make them right where you can see them! I had their sausage/egg and beef fajita tacos. The tortillas are so fresh/soft! They’re very friendly and the service is speedy. Their breakfast tacos are a great start to your day of exploring San Antonio! Beware, you’ll be smelling like tacos the rest of the day…

The food was good. unfortunately the tortillas for my tacos were cold, and the staff seemed more interested in their conversation than in their customers. The doors was good so I would give them another shot. The atmosphere is fun.

Ok I admit I was a bit hard on the service the first time around. I’ve been here twice in the past two weeks and was pretty impressed with the food and the service. I came here on the 11th and ordered green enchilada plate, which was really good. I kinda regretted not ordering a drink after noticing my neighbors behind me to my right, Santa Rosa hospital workers, order a blue margarita, and my other neighbors behind me to my left, tourists visiting from Washington/Oregon area, order a Dos a Rita. Rats!!! Last time I came here, this past Sunday, was after a hard day at work. I ordered a michelada with Dos Equis Amber. Ginormous indeed but it was more than worth the $ 4.25 cost. And it was a perfect complement to the 4 tacos I ordered. No complaints here!

I’ve come here a couple of times and have put off writing a review because I didn’t feel like most of the reviewers here… then I realized that’s exactly why I should write my review! I should first say that I have not tried their tacos, only their enchilada plates. I see the rave reviews and even my husband has said how much he loves their tacos, so I did make a mental note to try the tacos next time. The enchiladas were pretty good; they stuff so much chicken in them that it is really a treat! I feel like I got my money’s worth with all the food I got, even if the flavor wasn’t the best. The rice is ok, I’ve definitely had better, but the borracho beans are amazing! I was also really impressed by the beer selection, especially all the choices on tap. Overall I think this place has pretty decent food, just not the best I’ve had. I think I really like this place so much more because of the atmosphere and décor; I really dig the vibe here. Yes I will return, even if it is just for a taco and a Modelo Especial!

Good eats for reasonable prices. For my wife and I the total ran about $ 16. The lunch rush was pretty busy, but the service was friendly and the food was great. I had the puffy tacos, with rice. Nice atmosphere as well. Outdoor seating, and near the Riverwalk and The Alamo.

Phenomenally nice staff, cheap drinks, great Texmex and damn good tortillas. Ive been a few times now and I’ve ordered the Migas, chiliquiles, and a combo plate. Got to say the chiliquiles is the way to go– nice and crispy chips(not too much) with eggs cooked the way my grandma used to make them. The combo plate was good, but rice and enchilada could use some fine tuning. Chips and salsa were consistent each time with a nice mix between crispy thin and Mexican-manhattan-toofat chip and a very flavorful salsa. Mild enough to pour over your meal, but with enough kick to make it Texmex. Beer was 3.25 on draft, the notables ford being negra modelo and shiner and I think bottles were the same with the addition of Victoria. I’ll be returning.

Ummm… Yum. Ok so this morning I got to help out with the Scavenger Dash for Unilocal. My check-in table was in front of Taco Garage’s brand new downtown location. After a few hours sitting enjoying the tempting smells of tacos wafting out to greet my nose I couldn’t take it anymore so I went inside to place my order. Since I always want my Unilocal reviews to be as complete as possible, I ordered three flavors of tacos — bean and cheese, Carne guisada, and carnitas. A few moments later, the super-friendly waiter placed a plate of GIANT, piping-hot tacos in my hand. I suddenly realized why he looked at me funny when I ordered three tacos. This plate could easily have fed five people. I tasted the Carne guisada first. Incredible. The gravy was perfectly flavored and the meat so tender it almost didn’t need to be chewed. I also tasted a bite of the carnitas which were scrumptious. The bean and cheese I gave away to a hungry guy outside the place bc frankly as gluttonous as I can be, even that was too much for me. If you haven’t stopped by yet, give them a shot next time you’re downtown. Your tummy will thank you!

Taco Garage is a great additional to downtown and the Vistana. Their tacos are hearty and good, with a roasted salsa to compliment. My favorite seems to be the beef and chicken fajita tacos that make a meal alone. The chiliquiles are good with generous portions but could have been a bit warmer. Taco Garage is usually busy at night with several residents from the Vistana gathering there. Sitting at the sidewalk bars and enjoying the Houston St experience can be interesting. It’s definitely a good addition to the west end of downtown.

Yay, so glad these guys opened up in my building. Been waiting for months for the big day and finally this past Monday they were up and running! Still the same great food that they offer at their other location. Their Queso Primo… omg…OMG…so freaking good! I could literally take a bath in that stuff it’s so good. I love me a good fish taco and theirs seems to be one of the best in SA. The staff is fun and friendly. To me customer service comes first and when you are greeted with a smile and made to feel at home that goes a long way. The atmosphere has that same quirky, edginess to it and they also have an outside dining area. Loves it! Yep, I’ll definitely be a regular fixture there.
