I used to love this place, after going to Sea World we would go and have dinner here. Great food love the cream corn. But worst service ever! Dont visit during Holidays! We went on Father’s day and after standing in line for45 min. THEYTOLDUSTHEYDIDNTHAVEANYMOREBRISKET, CHICKEN, ORTURKEY. I asked to talk to the manager and he was very rude! Like well there’s nothing wee can do! well they did know theres always a lot of people.

Not bad, not the best, but we will be back for the corn and brisket alone. 5 stars for the cream corn and brisket 3 stars for everything else we tried 3.5 stars for service Super awkward parking lot as you have to drive through a gas station to get in. I would highly recommend coming in the back by driving around the back of 151 Saloon. They have a door in the back for to go orders, or you walk around to the front for dine in orders. The first employee to take our side order was not very friendly and just acted like we were idiots for not knowing the drill. They give you a plastic tray, cafeteria style, and you shuffle along the counter to place your meat order. The guy who took our meat order and the girl who rang us up were quite friendly. We initially decided to sit outside, but were SWARMED by flies. I have never seen so many flies swarm my food, it was quite nasty. So we moved inside, which luckily had plenty of available seating. If they are too busy and don’t have indoor seating, I would just take it to go. We got an order of brisket, sausage, pork ribs, with cole slaw, cream corn, and potato salad on the side. The only things I would get again are the brisket, which was really yummy, maybe the sausage, and certainly the cream corn. The slaw and potato salad tasted exactly like what they sale at Walmart. Although their homemade sauce that they had out on the tables was amazing. I could drink the stuff. Overall, I would certainly be back, but I wouldn’t wait in a long line for it.

This is the best barbecue joint we’ve been to hands down. We were visiting from Las Vegas and made it a mission to eat some Texas barbecue and stumbled upon Rudy’s on Google. We ended up ordering ribs, brisket, cream corn and coleslaw. The barbecue was so juicy especially, the brisket! It was the best brisket I’ve ever had with it’s crispy burnt ends that melted in your mouth. They also gave my brother-in-law free barbecue since he was in the Air Force and was a recent graduate from Lackland. They love and support their Airmen which was great! I suggest checking them out for some real Texas barbecue!

Excellent sausage and the sauce is good. Ribs were too peppery for most of the table. Most disappointing of all was the brisket. It was cut way too thin and as a result it was dryer than a Texas desert. No discernable smoke on it either. Tasted like it was made by a Jewish grandma who overcooked the hell out of it in her oven. The kicker is that they price it by the HALF pound. I ordered by the pound and was shocked that my meal was twice as expensive as I anticipated. Not sure what the hype on this place is all about.

This place was awesome! I loved the food. The entire atmosphere reminded me of home and getting together with family for a cook out. We got their sausage link, brisket and ribs with a side of creamed corn, coleslaw, and potato salad. We had a great experience here and look forward to going again. We recently moved to Texas from Virginia and though I love a great pulled pork sandwich I will not turn my nose up to some great brisket. The meat was done well, had great flavor and was not dry. The creamed corn, I will go back just to get more of that amazing stuff. If you’re in the mood for some laid back BBQ look no further.

Although it’s located in a gas station, this place was legit. We ordered the brisket, sausage, turkey and ribs. For sides we ordered their potato salad, creamed corn, beans and coleslaw. The brisket and creamed corn are the best! I didn’t like their ribs, it didn’t fall off the bone. But everything else was really good. I would say that their creamed corn was the best side and the brisket was to die for. We bought a big bottle of their«barbecue sause» and can’t wait to BBQ here in California and drench it in their BBQ sauce! Or «sause» as they call it.

Oh. My. Goodness! This place was amazing. Cream corn and brisket is definitely to die for. It’s our first time trying this place out and we are really impressed. I couldn’t decide where I wanted to eat for my birthday, BBQ sounded pretty good, so we ended up here and we were not disappointed. Lines is a little long but worth the wait. Tables are seat yourself and clean after yourself. They do have bathrooms. There’s plenty of parking. They even have a gas station if you’re low on gas, hahaha

My friend found Rudy’s on Unilocal as one of the top bbq places and since we were visiting Texas we couldn’t leave without trying some bbq. As we pulled up to this gas station in what seemed the middle of nowhere, I got a little nervous. The über driver assured us the food was legit and to get the brisket«moist.» I am a bbq lover and trusted the über driver’s suggestion. When we ordered at the counter they offered us the best creamed corn I had ever tasted. The brisket wasn’t ready when I ordered but I waited patiently with some peach cobbler. The peach cobbler wasn’t my favorite, I guess I just miss my grandma’s recipe and it wasn’t warm. If I had asked to warm it up I am sure it would have been better. I forgot all about that when I received my brisket. I know I will be exercising that off for the next week but it was well worth it! The brisket was juicy and so flavorful. They had a decent house bbq sauce but the brisket really didn’t need any sauce. My friend also ordered some sausage links. They were also the best links I think I have ever had, which surprised me. Usually I am the one saying all links taste the same so I skip it. You sit outside or inside the gas station on picnic tables and bus your own table. It was a very unique, yet great Texas experience for our visit.

The service was terrible; everyone has a bad attitude. This was my first time at Ruby’s. They take orders differently and when I asked about menu items the cashier wasn’t very knowledgeable. Instead, she pointed at the menu behind her and said«read the menu». Even the young lady cutting the ribs in the back seemed annoyed to be employed. They shouldn’t take employment for granted. I traveled from Illinois and noticed the sign outside the establishment said cashiers make $ 14/hr. In Illinois they make $ 8!!! They should drop the attitudes and not take their employment for granted. They offer creamed corn sample to everyone… Which is an awesome marketing tactic because it’s so good you’ll most definitely want to buy a full serving. If there was anything about the food that I would change is that all of the edges of the ribs and brisket were burnt(crisped). I think that was their«thing», but I thought it put a bad flavor to the food. What I oddly liked about the restaurant is that it has outdoor and indoor seating options. Connected to a gas station. The bathrooms were deplorable. My toddler needed to go «number 2», but there was splattered poop all over the toilets in the woman’s bathroom. I asked my husband to take him in the men’s bathroom and he said it was the same thing. But aside from cleanliness of the bathrooms and attitudes of the cashiers, I would recommend this place.

The barbeque is very good, as the long lines attest to. I knocked off some stars to hopefully get Rudy’s attention: train your employees to be more polite. They’re rushed, they talk loud and fast, there is very little courtesy. I saw this cashier practically shout in the customer’s face when the customer politely said that she could not understand the cashier, because of the rushed stressful loud voice the cashier was using. Also, «your mother is not here, clean up your own mess» signs around are obnoxious. What is this, a high school cafeteria? How about just politely asking your customers to please throw away their trays after their done? I abhor bad customer service, 2 stars. Still love the barbeque though.

Service 2 star Cleanliness 2 star Price 3 star Food 3 star Military discount 5 star The young girl in the back chopping the baby back ribs was so impatient. Longest face I’ve ever seen. We couldn’t figure out how to order, attitude was really bad. The older gentlemen on the counter said welcome and disappeared. The older lady who was a cashier was also getting impatient which I understand but, we were not holding up the line. The fact they they gave us military discount was a 5 star and she said congrats to me and my son twice. She was ok in the end and thanked us hence the 3 stars. I guess being from Cali and owning a business I expect service. We were not told there were seats inside that is fully air conditioned, I had to deal with swatting flies while I eat and there was a fireplace where everyone eats making it unbearable to eat and enjoy the food. The creamed corn was awesome though! Thank you for the sample.

This place was fantastic after a day at Sea World. It’s located right across the street from the entrance to Sea World on the side of a gas station. It is counter service. We loved the ribs and brisket. The sausage, beans & creamed corn were also very tasty. You order by ½ pound increments and don’t forget to ask for the pickels. The staff Is very friendly and they will let you try samples. I didn’t love the barbecue sauce but their dry rubs on the meats didn’t need any sauce. This is a must stop.

dinner food: creamed corn and brisket. i dont care for the bbq sauce they serve, but the meats didnt really need it. tender and juicy, but not that smokey. still wonderful flavor. the creamed corn brought it home. we got the small to share. i couldve eaten a large on my own. naturally sweet. almost like warm corn flavored ice cream, if there were such a thing. it is a thing now. ***4/5 service: the place is big with plenty of spaces to sit. the employees were cool and gave us samples to try. ***4/5 value: that creamed corn alone will make me want to come back. the bbq aint bad either and it’s competitive pricing for me. ***4/5

I’m a big barbecue fan and very picky since I’m from west Texas. I got a pound of pork ribs and a half a pound of brisket. It was unbelievably amazing and I’m about to blow up. The only negative to the meal was the sauce. Their original sauce is hot and tastes nothing like BBQ sauce to me. I prefer either sweet or sour sauce. Aside from that, 2 thumbs up. $ 26 bucks for 1.5 pounds of meat and a half loaf of bread and a pint of sauce. Not bad.

As a San Antonio native I take all visitors to Rudys at least once. It’s always a big hit. My in-laws are bbq judges in Kansas City, judging the American Royal in the past, and even they like Rudys! I’ve been going to the Leon spring location since I was a child, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. This location might just be my new favorite. I stopped in two days ago with a bit of an odd request for a relative in the hospital. The lady who took and packed my order was kind, accommodating, and beyond patient with me. She even had a few suggestions that I didn’t even think of – offering milder sauce, and packing things in such a way they traveled well to the hospital. So the point: the food is consistently fantastic, and the employees are great.

My friend took me here while I was in San Antonio on business. Kind of strange it’s attached to a gas station, but delicious none-the-less. The cream corn is AH-MAZING, we ordered a pint to split between us because it was so good.(They give you a sample before you order) we also had the brisket and turkey, and I got a peach cobbler for a guilty pleasure. Everything was great from start to finish and I love the extremely casual environment! I will definitely return next time I’m in town!

Rudy’s has never let me down, I consider this my place for comfort food barbeque style. The low country vibe of each one that I got too never fails me. Country music playing in the background allows me to drift away while I’m gnawing down on my delicious brisket and sides. Although it’s several minutes away from my house with no traffic, I will always come back here. This was the first stop I asked my cousins to take me when I got picked up from the airport. I love good down home country style cooking, this is one of them.

Awesome Texas BBQ. Rudys was the first BBQ I had when I first moved Texas nearly 2 and a half ago. This location is good but certainly not the best. But it’s damn good. I mean look at the pictures I have the brisket. Anyways the issues I have with Rudys is their locations are all a little different. Some places have baked potatoes. Some places have banana cream pudding. And other don’t. That to me is annoying. I wish they all had the same menus Nevertheless. What really matter is they all have brisket. And the brisket is top notch. I highly recommend anyone coming to Texas or who is from Texas to eat at all the locations for Rudys. The BBQ always hits the spot.

Frequented several Rudy’s and the brisket is always good! this location is right outside of Sea World and is especially appealing if visiting for that reason. The food at Rudy’s beats everything on the menus at Sea World– probably healthier too. We generally order cutters choice brisket, sausage, and creamed corn– also recommended is the spicy chopped. I strongly dislike the layout and interior rooms of this location. The building is a bit of a maze, and the two large interior rooms were not up to par with cleanliness– kind of grimy all over. However, The outdoor deck area is quite nice area to sit. Also the tiny area where you order and pick up food was very clean. Stick to those areas and you will be pleased.

I have always hated creamed corn. I now enjoy creamed corn. The brisket was a little on the dry side but I still enjoyed it thoroughly. The potato salad was really great as well. I love that they give you samples of other things while you are ordering, it made me add on the creamed corn to my meal and definitely makes me want to return to try out the sausage that I sampled! Service was a little odd. Friendly, yet it seemed almost«scripted» which is weird for a BBQ place. And since myself and my friends were ‘newbies” to Rudy’s, a little direction in the forms of signs like«order your side items here» and«finish your order here» would have been nice. I was a little confused at first, but we figured it out.

I’m not terribly impressed. The customer service was top notch. The employees were extremely friendly and helpful to first timers. The ribs were very tough and just not the fall off the bone I expected. My husband said the brisket was really dry. The BBQ sauce I added to the ribs to try to help was horrible(to my standards). It was peppery and sour. The hot sauce sitting on the table looked like it went bad. :/ The turkey was moist and well executed so props for that. I’m not a creamed corn person but the creamed corn has turned me into one as it was excellent! The outside seating is awkward if you don’t get your own table. A couple ending up sitting next to our family and it was uncomfortable. I would try again only to get more creamed corn and try the chicken. I’m sad the ribs sucked because that is what I was looking forward to.

Excellent barbecue done right. So there was a group of us that traveled from Los Angeles to San Antonio and someone in the group kept talking about«we’ve got to go to Rudy’s while we’re there». So for one of the nights, Rudy’s it was. Walking in after stepping off the bus(yes, it was a nice coach tour bus. I told you it was group. I mean, we didn’t take the bus to get there but it was waiting for us when we landed), the distinctive smell of barbecue sets off a chain reaction that gets your mouth watering and your stomach grumbling. So you walk in and get in line to order your food. I had the brisket and of course everyone says you have to try the cream corn, so give me a helping of that. Once ordered, find a seat. They have simple picnic style tables and it works for this setting. Your meat choices are, turkey, brisket, chopped beef, pork ribs, baby back ribs, half chicken, and sausage(whole or half link). Sides include, potato salad, Rudy’s beans, cream corn, and coleslaw. Priced just right so save room for dessert and some peach cobbler(I’m an apple pie guy myself). The meat was delicious and tender. The BBQ sauce had that familiar Texas style flavor and Rudy’s has their own take on it. The corn was tasty as advertised and I paired that with Rudy’s beans. Yum!

I came by earlier today seeking some good ‘ol BBQ straight up from TX, which makes expectations rise. Apparently this place I checked out says they are the worst/best BBQ in their slogan. I tried asking the worker what that meant, and her answer still puzzles me. The service here was great from ordering up front to the lady inside. Even met the general manager on my way out… All gave a nice impression! This place is a casual spot. 1) you order and they prepare food quick and pay up front, self-serve for food & drinks 2) pick your own table and seat yourself 3) no plates, you eat family style off of wax paper placemat and a hot dog/fry food tray Order: cream of corn, potato salad, beans, ribs, tri-tip, and sausage. ***Tri-tip & cream of corn was my fave overall!!!*** Tip: tasty BBQ sauce! Just drizzle it all over, and game over you’ll fall in love with your meat!

4.5−5 stars. Not sure why this place gets so much hate from the Unilocal reviews. This is very good BBQ. I’ve been to the one at the Allen, TX location and the BBQ is consistent and juicy. Might I add, flavorful? I usually order too much(eat everything) and hate myself for it but that’s no one’s fault but mine =) This was the second time I got the turkey but each time I hesistate because I’ve had so many smoked turkeys had were way too dry but so far, not yet at Rudy’s! And it tastes very«clean» too. Let me explain. Turkey is so mild that it can be easily overpowered by smoke but for some reason, Rudy’s executes very well with the turkey. Brisket was moist– this time I chose to get the lean option and not the moist since as good as the moist one was, I just wasn’t in the mood to really hate myself. Baby back ribs– very good and I love the rub.

Meat. Meat. And more meat. Buy what you meed by the pound. And the sides too! From brisket to chicken to turkey to ribs to corn to peach cobbler… so many choices! So I went with the brisket an turkey and sausage. Of course I also got the peach cobbler. Order at the counter and seat yourself inside or outside. Fire pit outside. Sauce and rub everywhere. Mmm… Turkey was really good. Moist and had the right amount of seasoning! Loved the juicy sausage too! I heard that some locations may have sausage with jalapeño stuffed inside… not this location though. Brisket was ok. Put a lot of sauce on it… Peach cobble was yummy too. Just wish it was warmed… All in all a good time. Communal seating so get to know your neighbor!

Straight up BBQ! First timers here and grabbed the baby back and brisket! Buy it by weight. Got a 1lb of baby back and ¼ brisket and it was Delicious! It’s a dry BBQ and you add the sauce at the table to your liking. Specialty sauce is great! Tables inside and outside. If you eat outside, be prepared for the occasional fly and bee trying to get at your scraps. Definitely recommend the cream corn! If you think you need a small size, get a large. Ask for a sample if you’d like. You can grab bottles of soda or beer. I went for a fountain soda since they have free refills. Beer looked cold and inviting! Grab extra towels for your BBQ paws. BBQ was great and prepared fast. Delicious sides and friendly service. Conveniently located. Would definitely visit again! See you for dessert.
