The scenery is fantastic! Service is pretty slack. We had a wonderful German beer, but the pretzel and beer cheese were awful. If was a microwaved frozen pretzel with canned fake cheese! Very disappointed.

Wish we could give more stars. Ordered the brat burger and hamburger, both with fries. The food was surprisingly good despite less-than-stellar service leading into our meal. Our server wasn’t particularly attentive and seemed to have to force herself to be courteous. Most disappointing were 1) no availability of fountain soda and 2) the cook having forgotten to defrost the chicken. We had come specifically for the chicken schnitzel and it was not available. In addition, there were workers doing something with ladders and the ceiling not far from our table. It wasn’t particularly disruptive but couldn’t they have done that before opening for lunch?

We day drank here during Fiesta. The margaritas were pretty good; we also ordered a «bier paddle» and that was good as well.

The Hoffbrau beer garden is a popular conceit that can be found across the World, but there’s still a unmistakable charm about the location of this one, smack dab in the middle of the Riverwalk. The staff isn’t quite as adept at wearing the checkered shirts, suspenders, and lederhosen of the Germanic tradition as you might hope, but there’s still liter mugs of the traditional Marzen, alongside a healthy smattering of Texas beers. The pretzel may taste like you’re chewing on a dry sponge, but sitting there under the string lights and listening to the sounds of live music and rippling water make it a pretty okay way to end the night.

A group of retired AF folks went here for a gather in to talk and have some beer and food. Called a few weeks ahead of time and talked to Jay who welcomed the idea and promised he and the staff would take great care of us. They came through like champions. Good beer selection, good food, good atmosphere and did I mention the staff was great? CHRISSYISINCREDIBLE! She kept track of about 45 different folks orders throughout a 3 hour periods and never missed a beat.

I love this place but the Saturday night lady DJ is the literal worst. Food is good, beer is good, atmosphere is usually good.

Fun find, great scenery, robust flavors to pair off with their bold biers, Fun loving atmosphere with some live German themed music that double as comics! Located in front of the stream and gardens that runs straight through the Hyatt hotel right before spilling into the San Antonio River. If you ganna stop and have some biers, getting the food to match your brews is half the fun! The beers paddles are a nice intro to the assortment of German brew they have on hand. Pair it with a Bier Garten Platter and you’ll be well on your way into tasting a bit of Germany! If theirs still room, grab an Apple Strudel before you leave!

If there was a negative star, I would have picked it. We were the only party and we have been here for an hour and we still don’t have food on the table. It was already questionable because of the waiters lack of personal hygiene. Dirty nails and unkempt appearance is never ok when you deal with food. Will not be returning. No question there!!!

Not bad. It was nice to see some great German beer so close to home. It’s just a mini version of the real Hofbrauhaus in Munich.

Drinks were good, a nice place to stop when you are between places on the riverwalk.

Love the location on the edge of the Riverwalk. The fried pickles were described by one of our party as «the best I have ever eaten.» The pretzel buns were amazing! The chicken Schnitzel sandwich was nicely breaded and well seasoned. The best sandwich was hard to eat(it wouldn’t stay together) but it was good. The three sausage platter was good but one of the sausages was excellent – unfortunately we are not sure which one. We had a difference of opinion on the German potato salad. Or friends thought it was excellent; I thought it was bland and didn’t understand it being served cold. My husband had a huge beer that he said he could barely lift – just as our tiny waitress passed with two of them in one hand! And thank you, Unilocal, for the awesome Apple strudel! We all said the best we’ve ever eaten but we have all been dieting(until this meal, that is). Really enjoyed this restaurant!

Loved the Curry Wurst. Very Bavarian for sure. The Atmosphere is not like a real Biergarten but close to it. They have a variety of German food and beers.

Relax outside! We decided it was time for an afternoon pub break and remembered this place. It wasn’t easy to find — well at least not for us– but definitely worth finding. We sat outside looking at the waterfall. I was fascinated by the ducks. There was a duck at the top of this waterfall standing on one leg asleep. He never fell. Yes this entertained me the entire time we were there. Our server, Angelica, was very nice. I had to ask her about the ducks. She said there were two and neither has ever fallen off the top of that waterfall. My husband and I ordered two bier paddles to share, the euro and the german. It was a great relaxing afternoon sampling different beer!

Delicious food! I strongly recommend the biergarten player or the Oktoberfest bier bringers platter depending on your party size. The kraurtwurst balls and pretzels are amazing!!! The biers(beers) are a good price $ 8 for ½ a liter and $ 12 for a full liter.

I want to like this place. I really do. The concept is great for downtown. The location is great, but that’s it. I’ve been three times now. The first time it was ok. Not great. Not good. Just ok. Ordered beer and sat with the family. Service was pitifully slow. The second time we went the service was still pretty pathetic. The draught beer… just awful. Tasted like their taps hadn’t ever been cleaned. To their credit they traded it out for a bottle for me, but they didn’t seem terribly concerned. Today we tried again while downtown. It’d been months since there so maybe they’d gotten it together. Nope. We sat at an empty table(only about three tables were full). We were passed by… for 10 minutes… by every single employee. Not one looked our way. They bussed tables around us, but they made no attempt to look our way. We waited and waited. Finally we left. Three times visited. Three times with CRAP service. Not even bad service. CRAP service. We won’t be back.

Perfect location right across the street from the Alamo! Just walk down the steps by the visitors center and past the pretty fountain and boom you are there. Ice cold beer, delicious fried pickles, and just ok food with pretty slow service. Avoid the giant pretzels they are stale– the brats are not bad!

Great atomosphere in a more secluded off the beaten path location. Definitely worth a visit for cold beer(liter or a half), live music and authentic German cuisine. Our waitress Cynthia was flat out awesome. THE place to celebrate Oktoberfest! Fun games, prizes, décor, and more!

Stopped in for lunch with a colleague as it was convenient location. A bit of a tourist lunch spot. Limited choices for lunch and other than brats very limited German food. I ordered a brat platter and was pleased with food. Service was pretty poor though. We were essentially ignored and the place was very empty. To top it off waitress shorted me on change back. Albeit, it was only the change and less than a dollar, but the principle of the matter is why I shall not return. This might have been a 4-star review but ignoring us when we were trying to leave and then shorting me on change back leaves me with no regrets on the 3-star rating.

We walked in at 9:55pm and the kitchen closes at 10pm. Stacy helped us get our food order in fast before it shut down. Thank you Stacy and kitchen staff! We got the 3 sausage board with potato salad, pretzel and mustard. Being from Augsburg Germany I was ready to be bombarded with American or Americanized sausages and Heinz mustard. We got the food a Long with curry fries and after I tried it all, my mouth would have hung open had I not been shoving more bratwurst, German mustard and pretzel into it. The sausages, mustard and pretzel are spot on! The potato salad was ok. Not the same as mine but not everyone can make my awesome potato salad haha haha lol The Radler bier was exellent but above all Stacy was a terrific waitress. She saved our night! Thank you Stacy! Great job ! We will be sure to recommend this place to friends in Houston !! Oh the dirndl outfits the waitresses wear are cute. I would wear it for a costume or Oktoberfest celebrations ;) To the table that did the run off, we will find you and we will k*** you. Lol. Not cool to do a run off — that’s screwed up.
