I had heard of this place through a friend. Was actually quite disappointed my mother and I were seated very rudely by a short red haired hostess(didn’t think that was possible) but guess everyone has a bad day. After which the waiter was prompt and somewhat knew about the menu. Price has never really been an issue on my end as long as the foods worth it. But this place was overpriced .if I wanted a over priced Mexican restaurant would’ve just gone to la fogata(at least there food is different and more authentic) to make matters weirder the hostess kept eyeballing my mother and while we waited for our food. Honestly felt discriminated against. So in short… overpriced Mexican food I could’ve gotten anywhere on the southside of San Antonio and terrible customer service. Very uncomfortable experience.

Went to try it out for the first time i should of thought twice before i brought my family. our waitress ruby wasn’t friendly and only checked on us once maybe it’s because it was busy. our rice and tortillas were cold to the touch and our enchiladas were not good it seemed the tortilla of the enchilada were not cooked. i spent $ 125.00 on our dinner. $ 125.00 down the drain. The only thing that was good was our beer and margaritas. .we will not be coming back

Food was mediocre at best, just because you serve food on a corn tortilla does not make it mexican much less tex mex. Enchilada sauce didn’t have flavor except corn starch. Many better options in San Antonio.

La Fonda at Alamo Heights has a very casual atmosphere with a cool looking bar in the center of the restaurant in which you can enjoy some sports while drinking your beverage. This was my first time dining at this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend. The prices are affordable and offer a good amount of choices on their menu. I did like the idea that they served healthy meal options for those who are health conscious. We ordered a large fajita platter thats portion size was easily shareable for two people. The other individuals in our party ordered Street Tacos, which seemed to be just an ordinary taco with beef topped with onions and cilantro. If you’re looking for a Mexican restaurant to eat at without any frills, La Fonda offers the typical Mexican dishes that are commonly ordered, plus some healthy options.

I ordered enchiladas at lunch & they came out slow. They were palatable but no better than you would order from a cafeteria & get instantly. This La Fonda local is subpar.

Food was ok. Wish I could have got some hot sauce. Thats it. Basic review for a basic restaurant. If I ever want just ok food and good service ill come back. But I wont. Maybe if they had hot sauce.

The quality of this place exceeds most Mexican restaurants in SA. The tortillas, both corn & flour are homemade, tortillas chips taste homemade, are crispy & fresh, salsas seem to be homemade and made fresh daily as well. The Queso had lots of flavor and something unique to it, maybe it’s made with beer or something, anyway, it tasted really good :-) Beef Fajitas were suggested over the chicken and I am glad I listened because they were high quality beef deliciousness, tender and lots of flavor from the grilled onions, green & red peppers. Plus the single portion is enough for a 2 – 3 generous tacos… accompanied with rice and borracho beans… I mean Mexican rice is Mexican rice, the beans had enough flavor and were tasty. With all of these Mexican restaurants in SA it’s really hard to find A) Quality B) Clean(er) food Ex. Not greasy. Mexican food is relatively cheap so coming here for dinner, appetizer, two entrees and a tea for $ 35.00 that’s a win in my book… Las Palapas costs just as much and doesn’t taste this good! Only thing service is a hit & miss. like a BIG hit or a BIG Miss. I warned ya ;-)

Very good top shelf margarita – like I would make it at home, with Herradura, Cointreau and Lime, full stop. I had the fish taco plate: it was tilapia so a little challenged in the taste and texture department, but very serviceable. I’d order them again. The borracho frijoles are really delicious, and should be insisted upon. Also, it seems that Juan, the bartender, is something of a legend. I’d recommend sitting at the bar and enjoying his first-rate service.

A great evening with the family at an Alamo Heights legend. Reborn under the watchful stewardship of the Hasslochers who have kept what was great and improved on what was not. Good solid TexMex. Great margaritas. Great service. Always run into friends. Feels like home.

Love this new location! This is tried and true, San Antonio classic Tex-Mex. I’m a big fan of the sour cream enchiladas, my dad loves the chalupa compuesta, and my mom loves the fish tacos. Definitely a must try if you are visiting San Antonio(if you live there, you already know and love it!).

This is the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten, and I eat a lot of it. The fish tacos were OMG awesome, and the frojoles borrachos were addicting, and I shouldn’t be forgetting the flower tortillas. Besides all that the manager Bill brought us some of there steak fajitas that was melt in your mouth. Best experience ever.

Update: my original two stars still stand. Gave La Fonda another chance, but this time our waiter appeared to have a second job as a magician, and he seemingly was getting extra practice in for his disappearing act. Well, it worked… Good job, dude. He should totally hit the road with that act. Good was again mediocre, although it arrived faster than the last time. It did take use 30 minutes to actually get the order in, though! Not. Impressed.

Awesome food. We had the Combination fajitas plate with Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp. Guacamole salas was very tasty. Fajitas were tender and delicious. Fresh homemade corn tortillas were«to die for». Ahhh. Borracho beans were very good. Frozen Margarita was very nice. I had to have two of them. Flan was dessert. Now, that was tasty as well and topped off our lunch. All is all, great. Louie was our waiter and he was awesome. He anticipated our every need and made it a pleasure to enjoy our meal. I’ll have to ask for him next time. You can’t go wrong. We will be back.

I had a wonderful time sitting on the patio here!!! Truly a great atmosphere! Dinner came out promptly, service was great, and margaritas were the bomb! I will be coming back to this location! Other la Fonda’s in town have disappointed me. Don’t live in Alamo heights but the drive is totally worth it!

My visit was wonderful! The service was very good, our waiter was prompt throughout our stay and helpful with menu suggestions, I ordered the La Fonda #2 plate. It was delicious, the enchiladas contained flavorful beef and the salad was a chalupa compuesta, never had this before, fresh guacamole and leaf lettuce. The price was reasonable and the atmosphere cozy. I will return!

Not awesome food, kind of mushy… but probably the best Tortilla Soup in town.(That’s a little known secret). Get that and their Tacos Al Carbon and you’ll be very satisfied. Also, they have great margs!

The old La Fonda Alamo Heights was one of my favorite places to go when visiting family in San Antonio and we had lots of family parties there in their party room. The new one, owned by Frontier Enterprises(Jim’s, Magic Time Machine), is promising, but needs a little work before it can catch up to the old one. Whereas the old one was near the center of AH on New Braunfels, the one is hidden. Tucked behind the Magic Time Machine off 410, it’s definitely a «if you don’t know about it, you’ll not find it» sort of place. The atmosphere is warm and inviting though, with two outdoor patios and a large bar area, and plenty of seating. The party room is gone, but the manager said it will be back. The chips and salsa are a good starter and equal if not better than the old. I ordered a green chicken enchilada and a sour cream chicken enchilada with rice and beans. The green sauce is well done, but the sour cream says falls a little flat. The chicken inside is chunky and well seasoned and the corn tortillas are hefty and tasty. The refried beans were well done — chunky, not overly smooth, and tasty, but the rice was dry. Service was a bit sporadic, with the waiter forgetting one of my dining companion’s dishes, and also taking an extraordinarily long time to first bring the bill and then talking even longer to run the card. None of the problems were insurmountable although, given the expectations, a little disappointing. Hopefully, they will hit their stride and shake out all the bugs. I’ll give it another try in the future.

It wasn’t bad at all. Actually, I think the food is a little tastier than I remember. I had the special #2 and the husband had the beef fajitas. Served both corn and flour tortillas. We ended with the sopapillas, of course served warm and with honey. All were tasty. Our server Ruby was just fine. We were there Sunday about 6:00pm and the place was quite full. There is plenty of parking and seating. It took a while to be noticed, but then all was OK. Chips and salsa almost beat you to your seat. Ha, ha. Tables are cleaned off as soon as you get up. The place is bopping. Give them a try is you like basic, not too spicy Tex-Mex food. Their food has always been consistent.
