I go here all the time when I’m in or around downtown. To me, it’s like an SA go-to; if you don’t know golden star, you’re not a true San Antonian

The wait staff are very friendly but the management is very rude! Even to staff who are just trying to make a living.

Food OK. Service was excellent. That’s why I gave them 5 stars. Recommend the almond chicken.

I went again on 1÷29÷16 at lunch time and it was excellent. The place was packed and my food was served faster than I expected to my surprise. In my photo you will see that the portion of food I got was awesome. And it tasted very good. I will keep returning.

The food was edible… The service was okay, and it looked like an old hamburger joint in the past.

How is the food? You call that food? It’s not Chinese. It’s all fried Mexican style food and only with some fake Chinese names. Can’t even swollow. I’ve never been able to imagine Chinese food to be such terrible. Terrible garbage, crap !!!

3.5 Stars My husband loves the 3 price fish and has been faithful to this place since a kid. I however have always been skeptical about this place never really finding anything on the menu I really care for… I have tried the lo mein and it’s decent, fried rice decent, sweet and sour pork decent… Then finally I tried the chicken with broccoli… OMG I wish I would have taken a picture. The dish came out steaming hot and looking delicious. Every bite I wanted more and more… This will definitely be my new dish!!! In fact, I’m still surprised about how much I enjoyed the dish, I had to write a review. Oh, the Egg Drop soup was kind of bland… Skip that one.

Unbelievable food and service. Highly recommended establishment. Don’t let the old building fool you, it’s truly a gem worth uncovering.

I love the chicken and broccoli, fried rice, and egg rolls are so delicious! I like the sweet tea too. Sure the place is a little rundown and it definitely needs some remodeling. The waitresses look kind of ghetto and aren’t really dressed for work but I’m not there for them. I go cause the food is so delicious and my family and I love it. Good thing the prices are low! If you want good Chinese food this is the place to go.

We are never coming to this place again. The place needs a redo. They do have old school CD playing machine. The food was bad and I couldn’t eat the rest of it. The watier hasn’t really checked on us that much.

The service was great! I loved the idea of the music box in the booth, however the food was another story they were stingy with the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice & cream cheese puffs weren’t the best…

Will never come back here again. Everything looks and tastes old. The place itself is dirty. Food has no flavor & very cheaply made. Shrimp they use in the fried rice is tiny, has no taste & probably came frozen in a bag. Save your money.

Food is bland. Dishes don’t taste chinese inspired at all. It’s American Chinese food.

Great fried rice. Tasty food. Very very affordable. Beats Panda Express easily. Closed Sundays. Open late. Has some TexMex and American dishes. I alos like the table side juke boxes at each table, very old school. Family owned. Blue collar crowd. Good service. Secure your car in parking lot. This place has been here. for decades. That is a good sign.

I work in the area and only have 30 min for lunch. I have been craving Chinese for weeks now so I decided to try this place. I had chicken Lo-Main, fried rice(by accident), and fried cream cheese ragoons. NOBUENO! The lo-main noodles were over cooked and stuck to each other, but at the same time insanely oily. It also seemed like it was not seasoned, It had bean sprouts, carrots, onions, green onion and some oily brown sauce but It was pretty much flavorless. The fried rice was okay. The Cream Cheese ragoons were stale and only, filled with oil… I will never visit this place again; I wish the people I work with gave me a heads up…

Overall the food was good, but nothing to brag about, would i visit this restaurant again, no, never again!!! Also in my opinion i believe the waitress’s purposely neglect to refill their customers drinks, I had to wait 10 minutes for a refill in which I had to ask for a refill!!! Horrible experience!!!

It’s a Chinese Mexican American food diner all in one!!! The Dive of all Dives of the Greasy Spoons that is real cool to experience in this life time. Except for the restroom, unless you really really really have to go, enter at your own risk. I’ve seen way nicer on the Revolucion in Downtown TJ. Dude! Its a place one can get little icky tasty fried wonton strips, a simple Cheese Burger, Crinkly Fries, a mountain of Pork Fried Rice, and a Coke all for under $ 6 bucks. They have a juke box where you deposit quarters and select the songs from a flip chart at your table. They even serve sliced white bread with small pats of butter like you see at truck stops. This place is awesome! and it’s open late on the weekends.

Fish covered with gravy? Chinese restaurant in the middle of downtown — down the street from where the original«Jailhouse Café» used to haunt? Mexican and American food as well??? Hole-in-the-wall? You see where I’m going with this? Ok, even if you don’t — here’s a little hint — neither did I when I heard about this place. I heard that the gravy covered fish was their specialty and it was REALLY good. Uh… so yeah, that’s not ME… but I’d also been told about their fried rice. Now THAT I can do. And I did. It wasn’t bad. Mind you, it wasn’t the ‘slap yo momma’ kind but it definitely had a good flavor to it. Unfortunately, that was the only thing that received my two stars. I seriously had to downgrade when I went to this restaurant. First, the parking lot is TONS more lit than it was a couple of years ago. That’s a start. BUT the people that roamed around made you think twice about going in — from the girl who was extremely proud to show me the cracka’ her ass in her booty shorts to the dude who looked like he bought his suit from«Pimps ‘R’ US». Yeah. You GO boy. Second, going inside. They had a couple of display cases when you walked in with Solanpas patches and sprays(a Japanese muscle pain reliever) which were covered in dust and a fountain that said something like ‘Do not touch’. Dude… the water wasn’t running and it was turned completely the hell off. I don’t think ANYONE’S touched it in about 10 years. You don’t have to worry. Trust me. Third, I was greeted by a Chinese guy in cowboy boots, a big @ss Texas-sized belt buckle… complete with a plastic Stetson. Yes, I said it. Plastic. Last, dishes everywhere on the counter. Clean and dirty. I was surprised they knew what from what. I shudder to think of how long some of the dishes had sat there. Ok, if you can look past all of this — then by all means, go for it. Me, however, I was done. I can at least say, I WASTHERE. =P
