It’s a laid back, small friendly place to hang out at and you can tell it has a lot of regulars but what’s up with that smell? I’ve only been here a couple of times since it seems to be a favorite hang out of a few friends but I’m so glad they like to hang out outside because this place has an old, moldy smell. The bartenders do appear to be more attentive to regulars but whatever, I don’t really care about that and who doesn’t like to go to a place where everybody knows your name, right? This place could be a lot better if they got rid of that smell and you didn’t have to go to the bar every single time to get a drink.

I finally got the chance to visit this place while some friends were visiting. We had a fabulous time!!!(I might have had *too* good of a time thanks to some $ 2 Tecates.) The bartenders were all friendly and nice. We had good service all night at the bar, although we went on a Tuesday or Wednesday so it was pretty dead. I walked out with a pretty cheap tab, which is always a win in my book. The venue itself is small and dark, but it’s a cool spot to chill for awhile. There seemed to be the regulars there, but they didn’t mind us! There were a few people who seemed to be the regular karaōke singers, and one even had some food delivered while she was there, so apparently that’s an option if you want! The karaōke DJ was awesome, and didn’t do the annoying thing that karaōke DJs like to do — sing every other song. He kept to the back and played some awesome in between songs. Thanks for playing Best Coast; it made my night! Like I said, we went on a weekday, so I can’t comment on how this place is on a busier night. But if you’re looking for a cheap place to drink and fun place to sing some tunes, Dad’s has ya covered.

Dad’s is one of my favorite bars in the country. I know that may seem like overselling but it truly is a unique establishment. It is both a divey and upscale(law books line the walls). What makes it five stars is the superb quality of service and the consistent fun it brings. I lived in San Antonio for a year before moving and I made a point to try all of the different bars throughout town. Dad’s was the only bar that was consistently packed Thursday-Sat. People love this place. I came back to town to visit a friend and I had to stop in Dad’s. Same awesome bartenders were there. The owner was there per usual and he could be seen speaking with patrons and individually with the staff. I think that speaks volume about the quality of the ownership and staff. Even better, after a year away one of the bartenders still recognized me when I came up to the bar and and had a drink with me and my friend when we left. Anyways, so why should you go here? Well its the best karaōke bar I’ve ever been to. Period. Every city I move to I try and find the best place to sing karaōke. Dad is unrivaled. With a dedicted DJ, top notch sound system and extensive song list, Dad’s is the best. Dad’s draws amazing singers but is very encouraging to new singers. The only downside is that Dad’s is so popular that it take a while for your turn to sing(over an hour as the bar packs in). Another feature about Dad’s which makes it unique is the diversity of the people there. Students, professionals, chefs, hipsters, young, old, middle class, lower class, upper class. Everyone goes here and everyone has a good time. If you are looking for a fun place where the drinks are strong, cheap, the service excellence, and the company diverse and friendly, Dad’s is the place to go and truly a gem of San Antonio.

If you are looking for a cheap place to drink this is the one! Also, if you are looking for hot, smelly and a 90 minute wait to sing this, too, is your place. They do not rotate new singers in. Farting would improve the smell. It is a baffling place and you have to be a karaōke addict to make it through.

I went to this place for the first time 25 years ago. Yes, 25 years… when I was 8! :-) So on the real, the place was packed. I had no problem parking or finding a seat. The bartender was on fire! This chick was tasty looking for real. AND, she poured a crazy stout drink… not overly so… just right. It’s a karaōke joint, people. Some can sing, some can’t. Overall, the vibe was positive & very entertaining. It’s loud so don’t expect to carry on intellectual conversation. This ain’t that place. But I’d do it again. Hopefully, not in another 25 years. Give it a go.

This place is great, if maybe just a little TOO popular. Parking is bad, really bad, there’s roughly 30 spots that they share with the sushi joint next door, anything surrounding it has signs of «Towing Enforced At All Times,» please please please don’t blame me if there’s a different experience but of the dozen or more times that I’ve been, I park under those signs and have been fine with my car still there and not ticketed after spending hours inside. The bathrooms are pretty wrecked, the floor in the stalls is missing most of its tiles, they never have paper towels and the soap dispenser is almost always out, but if you’re not carrying Purell around in this day and age you must like germs anyway. Alright, so far I’m making this place not sound so four-star… It’s a great bar! the bar is oval shaped, so theoretically there should always be a spot to squeeze in and order cheap drinks, this isn’t the case on most busy weekends so have a bit of patience on those days. The singing is usually pretty fantastic, wait times can be lengthy once you sign up for a song, but that gives you plenty of time to sit back, order some cheap shots and enjoy people drunker than you belting out Mariah Carey. It’s always a good time.
