I was pretty drunk and it was just as bad as when i was sober. The truck smells good so it draws you in. It gives you that hope that its going to be good, garlic does that too a person. Subpar ingredients, high prices. I probably get drunk and try it again, i will regret it. The second star is for the convenience

I love that Chelas is at the block. I got two chicken cilantro tacos for $ 7. Absolutely tasty.

Eh. I tried the tacos at their food truck at Point Park and Eats, the food truck park, and I was really disappointed. The creamy cilantro chicken taco, which from my understanding is one of their famous items… was underwhelming. I will admit that the filling is tasty, but it gets boring when its the only thing in the taco. The whole thing was really monotonous. It was still tasty, and I would have given it 4 stars… but another big mistake was the tortilla. It was hard, and ruined the taco. Like really, really ruined it. I’m sure it was unusual and maybe had something to do with the food truck prep, but both tacos that I tried had dry, burnt, chewy tortillas. If you are a taco food truck… you really can’t be messing up the tortillas. Cmon now. I’d try again if I was around the area just to see if it was any different the second time, but overall not impressed. Oh and also, the red salsa was really gross. Green sauce really good.

Reviewing: Shrimp Taco and Chicken Cilantro Taco(not recommend) First of all, this food truck is in a good area because it’s near UTSA and at The Block with plenty of other trucks around so there’s a great atmosphere. Secondly, the people working at the truck are really friendly. But honestly, those are the only two things going for this place. FOOD: First of all, the tortillas are no good. They do not taste home made and have the equivalence of a very cheap, stale grocery store bought tortilla. My two flour tortillas for my tacos came out hard and crispy in not a good way. Moving on, the shrimp in the SHRIMPTACO also did not taste fresh and some of them looked like old shrimp dried out. Lastly, I heard many good things about the CHICKENCILANTRO and was really excited to try it, but reality didn’t meet expectations. Honestly the cilantro sauce was pretty good but the chicken was so dry underneath that I couldn’t even appreciate the sauce. The red sauce on the side was also very watery, but the green sauce did have a better spicy kick. PRICE: I paid $ 8 for two tacos. This truck has good reviews so I don’t know whether I ordered wrong or they were having an off day, but my experience was sadly not very good.

When I go to The Block, Chela’s Tacos is the only food truck I stop at. I’ve tried a bit of everything from the tacos to nachos, it’s pretty good. Prices should be a lot cheaper though. $ 10 for nachos? I could get a lot more nachos at Chachos for the same price. Tip– if you come on Taco Tuesday’s it’s $ 1 for mini tacos.

I love Chelas. They are very kind and the food is amazing especially the chicken cilantro, but I will admit lately they have been closed when it says they are open):

Food is great but $ 7 for one taco and a drink!!! Are you serious!!! You messing up chelita! 100% Mexican here, parents both born in Mexico(Near Mexico City-Dad, Near Monterrey-Mom) and never in my life have I paid that much for one damn taco! Of course they make a killing considering they’re the only taco place around. UTSA students, head to Taqueria Datapoint for a real meal. SMH!!!

Stopped by at The Block for Taco Tuesday. Great variety that you can’t beat for a dollar. Be advised they are mini corn tacos though. Still could fill up on these. Had a veggie, a beef fajita and a cilantro chicken. Veggie was by far my favorite with beans, avocado and grilled veggies. Fresh and(truck?)made to order tacos are always a win in my book! Friendly guys even whipped up some homemade guacamole for me! Delicious and chips were salty which is just to my liking.

Outstanding! My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary on a road-trip to Texas, and this small food truck on the campus at UTSA was recommended. How true it is! The tacos were great, and the varieties of meats and sauces were amazing. The guys running the food truck were genuinely friendly and made us feel right at home. When in San Antonio, this is indeed THE place for tacos.

Yum! Great quick stop for a taco and Mexican Coke! Chorizo and potato was good but the bacon and egg was excellent! Crispy bacon and fried egg vs the usual chewy bacon and scrambled egg. My girl got potato and egg but her tortillas were really hard for some reason while mine were soft. Tasted like she got day old or over cooked tortillas :(for that reason 4 stars instead of 5. Also wish the salsa was a bit spicer! But still a solid breakfast taco, next time will try the lunch style tacos!

Best tacos in San Antonio. Hands down. No questions asked. Chela’s is the epitome of awesome, and I can’t help but keep coming back. The tacos are fresh and absolutely freakin’ delicious, but the people… The people that run this place are magnificent and give me all the feels. Love. Love. Love. Yes, I’m obsessed. For newbies, the truck is permanently located at The Block SA, apart from the times it’s out on catering calls. Their hours can vary from what’s listed on Unilocal or Facebook, so I always suggesting checking out their Facebook updates or simply giving them a call to confirm. They’re really only closed on Mondays, open all day on the weekends and open after 5 on the weekdays. It’s almost sad how well I tend to know their schedule, but trust me, I’ve needed these tacos time and time again. I’ve tried several tacos here — in fact, the fabulous people of Chela’s(including Chela herself) make me fun, special tacos every time I’m there. They don’t have a ‘bean and cheese’ taco, because they don’t quite believe in refried beans, and their ‘beans’ consist of some fresh beans in their Veggie taco. Their tortillas are super, duper fresh(literally made on the spot!) and they’ve got three types of salsa, which are amazing. You’re able to pour out your own salsa if it’s the salsa verde or the normal red one, but if you want some super freakin’ spicy stuff, you ask them and they give. That stuff is amazing. For some of our favorite tacos(this might actually be their whole menu), here’s the list: — Shrimp — Atlantic Cod — Cilantro Chicken — Veggie(avocado, beans, red/green/yellow peppers, potatoes, cilantro and some amazing sauce) — Potato and Cheese(with grilled onions and jalapeños) P. S. Their jalapeños are actual jalapeños, not that pickled stuff. They also serve Mexican Coke, along with a few other sodas and water. And now, for the people. Seriously, these people are awesome. They’re friendly and really try to keep a personal connection with all of their customers, no matter how busy they are(and trust me, they’re busy quite a bit!). Even during peak hours, one of the guys will leave the truck to find you and give you your taco. Other times, they’ll walk around to ensure you have enough salsa for your tacos. I mean, if that’s not top notch service, then what is? They always have a smile on their face, and even though I know it’s the same three that work every day and every hour, it amazes me to see that they’re always energetic. This, more than their amazing tacos, keeps bringing me back. When I say best tacos in San Antonio, I really mean it. Go on… Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. –update They’re opening up a restaurant in Alamo Heights. Woo-hoo! Chela’s Tacos Mexican Restaurant, you shall be the best.

Love this red horse trailer of a taco truck. It is absolutely amazing! Every ingredient is fresh and made to order. I usually go for lunch during college school hours. The lines can get a bit long but worth every cent. oh, the chicken is juicy not dry, my mouth is watering just typing this! I tried taking my parents when they came in town but they close a bit early or when they run out of food. My parents thought I was crazy anyways! They are just missing out on some San Antonio SOUL food!

This place puts me in taco heaven!!! I’m already a huge taco lover but my god is this place amazing! The service is always very nice and greets me with a smile. My favorite tacos to get here are the Gringa and Deshabrda. They’re always at the Block and that’s where I usually go to get my tacos. Grab a cold beer from the bar then walk over to Chela’s for some delicious tacos.

I’m in San Antonio a lot for business. We go for Mexican a lot while I’m there. This has to be the best place for Tacos in the entire city. The chalaquil with bacon is OFFTHECHARTS delicious. The chicken cilantro is also absolutely delicious. If you like your sauce hot, they have some really great ones. Tis place only serves fresh food. Fresh fresh fresh. The tortillas too. Wow is all I can say.

Taco was ok. Had the pulled pork salsa verde. The reason for the one star? Not washing of hands. Kinda careless in my opinion. I see the guy taking money and giving change, scratching himself and this is happening while the truck was being inspected by a health inspector! So surprised no one ever makes notice.

Was visiting a friend at UTSA and we decided to grab a bite at the Block before heading back to Houston. Out of all the food trucks there we decided to try Chela’s and I do not regret it at all! I got the Chicken with Cilantro which was pretty good. It was basically shredded chicken with cilantro and some yummy sauce. You can ask to add cilantro and onions, but it may cost more. I also got the El Pastor(marinated pork) and that one was defintely satisfying. Pork with cilantro and onions. the only thing it is missing is the avocado. You can also ask to add extra cheese for an additional charge, which is what my friend did. There is a small parking lot to the side of the Block and additional parking along the streets. Picnic tables are also provided and some even have shade. When I went during the afternoon, there was a UTSA football game playing on the tv screens at the bar. I also saw kids playing in the open grass field and people bringing in their dogs. I definitely look forward to coming back here when I visit SA again and to try all the other tacos!

***This is a SUBJECTIVE review by an individual from the northern states and unaccustomed to authentic Mexican food. ***I am also aware that my opinion of Chela’s Tacos is in the minority and that MOST people disagree with me and consider Chela’s Tacos to be very good. ______________________________________ I so wanted to like this little taco truck but after eating their tacos pastor and pork y salsa verde, I knew it was not to be. The tacos pastor had no consistency to them. They were completely dried out cubes of meat. Chela’s had attempted to reconstitute them in whatever sauce they threw on it but the failed miserably. These were truly the worst tacos pastor I have had. I also tried the pork y salsa very taco and found the pork to be completely bland. Wow, pork is naturally flavorful so it must have been a chore to boil all the taste out of it. Some of the college kids were getting the breakfast tacos and I think this may very well be where Chela’s shines. If, and that’s a BIG«if» I try Chela’s again, I will go early and try a breakfast taco. One positive note is their tortillas. They appear to be homemade and then finished on the flattop. There was nothing wrong with how hot the food came out! Oh, one last thing, and this might be the northern United States gringo in me, but where’s the cheese, lettuce, and tomato? I’m not saying it would work on all varieties of tacos but it does on most. Good luck to Chela’s but I’ll have to give you a miss.
