As Jeannie tipped, it is out of business. Sip is a half block away, boldly directly across the street from Starbucks, and the mocha I had was excellent.

I was excited to try this coffee shop based on the Unilocal reviews — sad to get there and discover it’s no longer open. The sign’s still there, but nothing going on inside — the place was gutted. Fortunately, SIP was just a few feet away and I was able to get a good cup of coffee there.

Love this place the minute I tasted their coffee. It’s the only coffee shop I visited while I was in San Antonio.

As a local who loves coffee this is a great find! The coffee selection is wonderful, great area for working/taking a break, and the location is awesome!

Despite weird hours and off-key service, it’s worth stopping here for the good coffee(and to break a Starbucks streak). I tried to stop in at 7:45 in the morning on a Thursday, and strangely enough they weren’t open. What kind of coffee place isn’t open at 7:45 on a Thursday? Committed to giving this place a try, my wife and I came back around 10:30 and both ordered their Oaxaca mocha. Anyone who’s ever been to a Diedrich’s(RIP) would recognize this as a Mayan Mocha, i.e. a cinnamon-chocolate mocha. Our mochas were excellent: delicious coffee blended with rich chocolate with a hint of cinnamon, without excessive sweetness. Their credit card machine was busted, so I paid in cash, and the barista dude made change out of his wallet. A little weird, but I won’t judge a decent place on account of technical difficulties. Bottom line, this place won’t change your coffee-drinking life, but it’s certainly worth checking out.

Discovered this while searching for a non Starsucks downtown. The staff is friendly and the wi-if is fast. I like the red and black modern techno décor — looks very European, which makes sense since this is a US outpost of a Mexico City chain. I enjoyed an iced Cubano expresso. It was unlike any iced coffee or iced latte I’d ever had. And it was delicious. I see another trip to San Antonio in my future just so I can have another one!

This is a great place to visit. For one Starbucks is crowded and there’s no where to sit, here they have leather couches and plenty of places to sit. Second I can never get the internet to work at Starbucks or Sip(which charges), here its blazing fast. Third the Oaxaca white chocolate coffee is freaking awesome. The only downside is that they close on Sundays.

Great cup of coffee and helpful staff. The Café de Olla was perfect; not too sweet, not too hot or cold, and just enough spice. I would have come here more often(like, every day) during my trip in order to try the many different coffee creations on the menu. Too bad I never could figure out when they opened in the morning — but it wasn’t when I got there(7am on a weekday and a coffee shop is closed?). I didn’t see any ‘hours’ sign on the door, so it remains a mystery. If you know the hours, be a champ and update the Unilocal record here so I can plan accordingly…

While staying in downtown, my wife and I felt this impending sinking feeling that we were going to be stuck going to Staryucks for our morning coffee(we’re serious coffee snobs from Portland, Oregon). Then we found Café Punta De Cielo… whew! The 2 guys running the place were funny and helpful, but the coffee was outstanding! I had a cappuccino and my wife had some mocha/caramel thing, both were very good. We were so impressed that our dreams were crushed when they weren’t open on Sundays!!! Booooooooo! If this place was in our home town we would be regulars, nuff said.

Tries this café in search for some other coffee choices than Starbucks across the street, walked down and came across this coffee shop. Ordered a café mocha, few mins later took a sip and wow. Best café mocha I’ve had!

Excited to have another coffee option downtown! I stopped in recently in between appointments downtown, and was told the Oaxacan mocha is the way to go. It is truly a treat! Different than any other coffee drink I’ve ever had with a smooth chocolatey spice to it. I tend to look for comfort and workability in a coffee shop since I’m often lugging my laptop with me and wanted to get some work done while I had some time to kill. This café leaves a lot to be desired in terms of décor and space — a bit cold and stale feeling. They had plenty of other delicious looking drinks and while I might not sit and stay awhile, I will definitely pop in next time I need a caffeine fix in downtown.

One of the best café cubanos I’ve ever tasted. This is EXCELLENT coffee.

The Oaxaca Mocha is the best plain mocha I’ve ever had. For that alone I almost gave the café five stars. The baked goods selection isn’t amazing, but the tres leches cake is tasty and the flan looks good. They don’t have brewed coffee – I haven’t tried their americano yet.

Best coffee I’ve had downtown… which isn’t saying much. I was hoping for a shop downtown that cared about getting all the deals right in coffee. Espresso cortado was passable, although a bit over extracted. It was really messy when it was brought to me, and when I finished it had some grounds in the cup. Décor & seating were nice enough, but the harsh overhead lights make it feel like the DMV. Like I said, best coffee downtown even with all the negatives. I’m a coffee snob, so I’m hard to please.

I had an absolutely delicious café cubano. In fact, it was so good that I had another. I can’t wait to try other things on the menu, too. The staff was extremely helpful and polite. I do worry a bit whether they can make it here, though. It’s pretty«bright» both in terms of lighting and the orange tables. It reminds me a lot of places in Mexico City where people go and hang out after doing other things. I think here we are more used to comfy furniture and soft lighting. We tend to use cafes as places to read and study more than to socialize(look at the décor at Olmos Perk or the original Local(the new Local is pretty sparse in terms of comfort seating now that I think about it)). But there were a couple of gentleman reading magazines there, so maybe I’m wrong. Anyway, the coffee kills the competition on Houston Street – by a long shot. Starbucks is invariably mediocre and although Sip is local, I never thought their coffee was all that great, and it always smells like burnt toast inside.

I stopped into Café Punta de Cielo today on my walk into work. After reviewing their pretty extensive menu, I decided on a Café Au Lait. The flavors are very smooth and clean. No harsh bite or too much acidity. Next time I want to try the Café de Olla-a spiced coffee. The interior is modern, fun and bright(much different than the Subway that once inhabited the space) and the staff is friendly and helpful. They sell all their beans for take home and they also have a grab-and-go lunch selections My only beef with my pop in visit today, was that it took a long time. This isn’t such an issue if you are a tourist and want to slowly start your day with your coffee and a news paper(as most of the patrons this morning were doing), but this sista’ has to get to work! I think if you work downtown and have the time, you should give them a try. With far more seating than the Starbucks down the street, it would be a great place for a business meeting. I’m glad there is now more coffee competition on Houston Street.
