Really really awesome! We wanted some canjun food tonight at San Antonio, so we searched and found this place. We went there and sadly knew that it was actually their last day in business. We ordered sthe New Orleans and Poboy, really really testy and in a good price. Cannot believe they are going to close the busyness

First time here and I honestly have to say the Gumbo was the best I have ever had .I ordered the blackened catfish and shrimp Diablo it was exquisite! The portion was too much for me to finish so I took most of it home. The waitress was very attentive and would come by to check up on us. Overall I would really recommend this place.

Stopped here based on some pretty good Unilocal reviews. Overall this restaurant was not what I’d call a disappointment. It was closer to an ehhh. Food was served quickly and hot. But the catfish and shrimp tasted like they were pulled from a plastic bag in the freezer and fried. The waitress was very helpful and nice. Next time though I’ll just drive on by.

The food tasted great! My only critique is that the red beans and ric weren’t piping hot. The boudin was great — good tastes and consistency. Definitely authentic. Catfish seasoned to perfection! Bread pudding topped it off. Rich sweet and decadent.

Such great service, staff is always polite and friendly! I love their 1⁄3 poboy(shrimp, soft-shell crab, and oysters). Usually a weekend special. So good!

Good: ½ and ½ PoBoy Blacked catfish on Dirty Rice It’s hard to leave reviews sometimes, especially when the front of the house was being as polite as possible, they even discounted our bill. Thanks for that guys. What happened in the back, I’m not quite sure. All I can say is, I’m pretty sure they were a 3rd full when we walked in… and it took a really really long time to get our 3 meals and way after everyone else seemed to have cleared out of the place, our 3rd plate arrived. Also maybe just skip the crab cake. If I lived in town, maybe I’d try again… Also for the non-meat eaters(it was Lent) Dirty rice has meat in it(I should have asked)

First time here, great service, food was hot and delicious. Exceeded our expectations for Cajun food in SA.

The food was good, but it seems that the owners are very unprepared to run a business. We got there at 11am for lunch and the owners pulled up right after us! While we were there for lunch they were rushing trying to get ready for the lunch crowd. Seems like they should have gotten there way earlier to prepare for the lunch crowd instead of trying to rush at the last minute.

Decided to try this place through a Groupon. The food was excellent. Very authentic Cajun food. The staff was nice and attentive. Will definitely go again.

This was a very good find on Groupon. Because its kinda of hidden. You wouldn’t know its there if you didn’t look for it on an app. The food was exquisite I had the red beans and rise with sausage and my girlfriend had the Cajon cordon bleu and we both truly enjoyed it. Great service too. Very friendly attentive staff.

Awesome oyster po boy. Order the full po boy and it was huge had 16 nice size oysters(at least) with swamp water. Definitely would feed two people. I’ll be back. They’re supposed to have a buffet every other Sunday. Make sure you call first.

I guess my previous 5 star review was deleted when they moved to Walzem. I wish I could give this the high review I gave it before, but I just can’t because it had changed. My husband and I bought a Groupon here because we know seafood is pricey and we missed the food here. We ordered the crab puppies to share, I ordered the oyster poboy and my husband ordered the catfish. Lemme rewind and start off with the waitress. While she was nice at attentive at first, but soon forgot and never came back to check on us… I was trying to choke down my sandwich with no water after awhile and ended up stealing my husbands. A young guy who I remember before when he was a couple years younger when they were still at the Randolph location asked us if we needed anything… Right after we tried multiple times to flag down our waitress, he seemed a little jaded after a few years. He’s not the same sweet attentive guy I remember. I did ask him to bring me a to go box and he totally forgot. I finally got my box from the waitress after once again flagging her down — mind you, it wasn’t even that busy. Now onto the food. On my gosh how it has changed! What earned it 5 stars from me before, gets 2. That’s a 2 average now — 2 for food, 2 for service. So the crab puppies are no longer the nice little moist, chewy bites they were before, they are mostly breading now. Blah. I could’ve just ordered hush puppies they would’ve been much cheaper! Not to mention, ALL of the prices went way up. Crab puppies are now $ 9 if I remember correctly, and there are only a couple. It would’ve been different if they were mostly crab. Now onto my oyster poboy. Oh man how I was craving that thing. I remembered their fried oysters being succulent, juicy… Just perfect. Everything a fried oyster should be. Oh how sad the fried oysters were this time!!! This time they were tiny, DRY, overcooked, very few present in my sandwich. A little scorched. Bread was so crunchy it cut the roof of my mouth. My husbands catfish was actually alright, but he complained that the batter they fried it in before used to be spicy, he loved that. He added a ton of pepper to try to balance it out. I would like to give it one more try. At this point it seems futile, but perhaps they replaced the cook? Maybe next time I will speak up and ask to speak with the manager or owner. If it happens again, that will be the last time I ever return.

This is my Cajun/Creaole go-to diner! This is the best Cajun/Creole in San Antonio, by far. The owners are refugees from Katrina that never went home — thank goodness! The staff is friendly. We have tried everything on the menu. Love it all. The desserts are unbelievable. I love the chocolate cake. We return over, and over again! They could use some upgrading of furniture, but this is a fairly new place. Be patient with this. They are going to upgrade as their profit margins increase.

Love this place! The food is as good as it gets when it comes to Cajun food in Texas. Their daily specials all sounded so good I had a hard time deciding. We had their jambalaya, red beans and rice, and stuffed flounder which were all amazing. The customer service is outstanding because everyone was friendly and made you feel at home. It isn’t a big place which is fine for me because it is definitely a hidden gem in San Antonio. If you are on Walzem and want something good I highly recommend stopping by! I promise you will not regret it.

Dear Big Easy, I am sorry to say this is our last visit. Your restaurant has a party going on and the patrons are not part of it. We found the staff very unprofessional, yelling across the room at each other, eating behind the counter, kids running around. For the prices you charge we expect more of a fine dining experience. I must mention I did not appreciate my buttocks falling through your over warn chairs– I thought I hit the floor! I opted to change out my chair but there others just the same not to mention the filth that covered them. Again– the styrofoam cups? Why the syrofoam cups? This is not fast food my friends! After our entrees arrived I asked for our salad. Oh yeah the salad! Hence the arrival of the salad after the entrée was served. Then the piano player began– yes he is talented but I found it agitiating as now I must scream to communicate with my company. We could not find anyone to take our money when done. Okay here comes the waiter… Oh no there goes the waiter as he sits down to eat his own dinner!!! Really? We went to the counter to pay– presented the groupon but was charged full price. The correction was made but now we must wait 3 days to get our refund. Big Easy it was exhausting eating at your restaurant!!! We found your food 5 stars– totally delish, the cook is doing it right! But unfortunately the lack of professionalism and attention to detail made our experience less than enjoyable. We would love to go back for the super yummy food but don’t have the energy to endure your environment.

First stop in Texas and it was an excellent choice. Thank you Unilocal!I ordered the fried catfish and fried shrimp platter which came with French fries and a side of Cole slaw. The fried shrimp and fried catfish was extremely tasty. Best I’ve ever tasted! Portions were huge, but I managed to gobble everything down because it was too good to go to waste. The sweet waitress offered me a cup of gumbo while I waited for my food to come. It was the most delicious soup I’ve ever tasted. The flavors jumped in my mouth! I don’t know what it’s made of but I know they add shrimp tails and some kind of sausage in it to bring out the flavors. I didn’t have enough for the bread pudding, but this place is must if I ever get the chance of visiting Texas again. 5 stars for the food, superb customer service, and festive décor!

Solid Cajun place on Walzem’s very interesting food row. We were trying to go to a now relocated Phở place nearby on some random Sunday and ended up at Big Easy, mainly because it was open and closeby. I am so glad we stumbled in. We got a smattering of dishes and all were solid. For me, the highlights were the poboys. Perfectly friend fish/meat(I got the oyster poboy) on perfectly backed buns loaded with just the right amount of condiments. I’ll go back for other iterations of this sandwich, no doubt. Other highlights were the good ol’ fashion red beans and rice, the crab hushpuppies, and the gumbo. All in all, a really solid Cajun place that doesn’t over salt. I’ll be back; probably with some frequency.

This place is where you go when you feel like a taste of authentic Nawlins cookin’. Red beans n rice, check. Gumbo, check. Jambalaya, check. They have all the spicy staples you crave when your taste buds need a jump start. I have tried many things on the menu from their crab bisque, to the various Po’ Boy sammiches and everything in between including the stellar mac n cheese. I have yet to try something that was not DELICIOUS. This is one of those few places that make comfort food better than yo momma! The sides here are hardly something that«come with your meal» b/c they truly stand on their own merit. This also includes the desserts. Normally I don’t have enough room for the sweet stuff when I come here BUT every once in a while, I’ll strategically allot stomach space for something tasty like pie. Mostly though, I love coming here b/c its one of the few places where I can order ANYTHING from the menu and know that it will be great. I highly recommend you come and find out for yourself though.

Holy Monkey this place is awesome. I went in thinking I was going to take the healthy route, but ended up splitting the seafood platter with someone. WOWEE!!! I’m not sure what was best out of the fish, shrimp, or oysters, because they were just phenomenal. The mac and cheese is like nothing you have experienced and I’m not quite sure how to describe it other than say it has a cajun flair. The green beans were great, and were seasoned with sausage. And finally, the potato salad was good, thick, and had a nice dill seasoning. Thanks, Destiny, for treating newcomers with such friendliness. I’m glad I work in the area, as I’m going to be a regular soon.

Whoa! Stephen C. and I met up for an early dinner one day after work. Set up by Rackspace(behind the IHOP) and omg, the food was delish! Steve let me try the red beans and rice he ordered — not bad but could have been a little bit hotter on the temperature scale. I ended up going with the ½ and ½ po boy which consisted of ½ fried shrimp and ½ fried oysters. Our server, Joy — who is also a Filipina! ;) — asked us if we wanted fries with our orders and we bypassed that in order to save room for dessert. When we were done, Joy mentioned the banana and bread pudding but really pushed us to try what she called, «That Cake». As George Takei says, «Oh.MY.» It’s part pound cake and part cheesecake. She asked us if we wanted it a la mode and when I hesitated, Joy quickly said, «Yeah, you want it a la mode.» Uhm. Okay. That Cake came out warm, with vanilla ice cream, and caramel. Soooo delicious!!! I’ve been craving it ever since! The employees are all sweet — beautiful smiles all around — and definitely know how to take care of their customers. Now I see why Sarah F. is the duchess around here!
