Everyone here is hella friendly. The food is fresh and has the feel of being home made. They also have Soul Food Sundays. Awesome! Highly recommend.

Looking for lunch after church and came onto Bayseaas. The reviews set a pretty high standard for the friendliness of the staff. I was so impressed by them! From the second we walked in until we left they made us feel so welcome. It was like having lunch with family. The food was great. I had the gumbo. Very spicy. The cornbread was awesome. Desserts were great. Catfish was crispy. My husband had the fried oysters and loved them. Wonderful little lunch. Price was great too.

Saw all the reviews and went with a friend to try out for supper. It was our first visit and they let us sample the fried catfish and gumbo. It did not disappoint. I enjoy fish but have never been a fan of fried catfish. However, Bayseas has changed my catfish taste buds! The breading was crispy and the fish was juicy without the freshwater taste. They gave pretty big portions of fish too! The shrimp were not huge but they were not a disappointment in flavor! I really enjoyed their cocktail sauce for dipping! Our waitress was a delight and friendly. Made us feel so comfortable being there without feeling rushed. Even the busboy checked in on us. Just great service and food all around. We are going back for lunch tomorrow. Because they said they were making banana pudding and my pregnant friend has been wanting banana pudding since our stay in San Antonio.

For a first timer my experience was HORRIBLE! The food was not horrible but it surely wasn’t worth the 1 and ½ hr wait. Went on a Friday, I understand it’s Lent; however, the wait staff failed to serve accordingly. It was only my son and I, not a huge party. The table next to us got served before us, my guess was because they were regulars, the waitress knew who they were. I guess you have to know somebody to not wait for over 1 hr. They were skipping people when serving other people were complaining as well. Tables that had been waiting were skipped for others that had just sat down. It blew my mind on how disorganized the waitstaff was. The table next to me realized that my son and I had been sitting before them and they got served first. They felt awkward and called on their waitress«friend» to get our food. She wasn’t even our waitress it was another young kid with glasses. Based on SERVICE, i will not return. That was my first and last visit. I suggest keeping better track of your tables and serve them on a first come first serve, not based on seniority or «personal» status.

We just happened to be in the area last night, ah, about 25 miles away from home :) We were in the mood for good seafood, we did an area search on Unilocal and came across Bayseas with great reviews and decided to give it a shot. It was close to 8pm and place was busy, but as venturing in to a «new place» for us, we entered with a very open mind. Obviously the clientele here come for the good food other than environment and ambiance, you have to overlook that. Jeremiah was the star of the evening(while we enjoyed our gumbo, fish and shrimp) He was«bussing» but he would take on whatever needed to get done, being pulled left to right from picking up tables, refilling drinks, taking drink orders, acting as a seating host. At no moment did he ever show a facial bothersome or negative expression. Always with a warm, kind smile on his face. Attentive and courteous. I was impressed with his demeanor. The wait staff was friendly and respectful. They asked us to please be patient as they were extremely busy(Friday night during lent!), but we knew and we gladly waited for our food. Once served our server and Jeremiah checked up on us. Gumbo was good with a strong kick, but enjoyed it. We ordered a combination of catfish and fried shrimp. Both were very good, I could actually see and taste the shrimp and not just the breading, same with the fish. Better than any upscale seafood restaurant. We really enjoyed our food and the service, we will definitely be back again soon.

I have never been to a place where everyone genuinely thanks you and will shake your hand for stopping by. The food is great but it’s the service that will keep me coming back.

I went to lunch here with a friend today. In other reviews, people talk about how friendly the staff is and how good the service is. They are not exaggerating. Every one was very nice and helpful. Our waiter was Jeremiah and he was very good. Not only that, but whenever another staff member would walk by they would ask how it was and if we needed anything. They did this without hovering over us. I got the lunch special with two catfish filets and two shrimp. They brought me three filets and three large shrimp. My friend ordered the 5 shrimp plate and got six. I also ordered hush puppies. Everything was excellent! I can’t recommend this place enough.

3.5 Star. Visited twice in one week because it was good, clean environment and nice waitstaff but seem easily overwhelmed by the rush. We ordered the shrimp, fish, oysters and gumbo. Being from New Orleans I remain open minded… The gumbo was lacking in flavor but included a good variety of meat and seafood. Second visit wasn’t as good as first time. Fried Fish was soft and some pieces were seasoned and others weren’t. Waitstaff was very attentive both visits. Both times left smelling like fried food, even one of the employees comments on the smoky environment. I will go back but now I know how to order and get it to go.

This humble little place is staffed by probably the nicest people we have ever met! They are genuinely welcoming and show obvious interest in making sure every single aspect of your visit with them is everything they can make it. But as good as this is, let’s talk about the food. We ordered the catfish and shrimp plates — one fried, one grilled. But we started with the gumbo. It was absolutely delicious and chock full of… everything. Shrimp, pulled chicken, sausage, veggies. Fantastic with a bit of a spicy kick. The fried dish was lightly breaded and perfectly fried making the taste of the underlying fish and shrimp come through nicely. But the grilled dish was simply unbelievable! Perfectly seasoned with with an ultra-flavorful paprika blend. This is definitely worth coming back for all on its own! We believe the desserts are made in house. The coconut cake was moist and awesome… and this is coming from someone who wouldn’t normally so much as try a coconut dessert of any kind. We tried the sweet potato pie because we’ve never had one. It was like pumpkin pie(which I love) without the spice taste(which made it even better). Finally, the peach cobbler which simply did not disappoint. Heck, even the lemon sweet tea was the best we’ve ever had. But without exaggeration, this is the best service we have ever received in any restaurant. I think it’s a family operation which speaks volumes about the warmth and kindness of the family. If it’s NOT a family business(which frankly would surprise me) then kudos to the management for creating such an atmosphere. Excellent food. Unmatched service. A well deserved perfect rating.

The best fried catfish, shrimp & oysters around. My wife & I stopped by for a late lunch. We were totally surprised by the quality of the food. I know we’ll come back.

Close to home, and right on time. My boyfriend had been craving some popcorn shrimp. I didn’t want to drive all the way to pappadeux, among the prices, so tried Bayseas. It wasn’t on the menu, but we were accommodated. Not many places do this. Great customer service. Friendly ambience. Good people trying to make a good living. Good food.

Service is nice comparing a huge amount of food with cheap price. I like their fries, but the catfish is too much power and dry. Still low price couldn’t ask for more. The way they decorate inside more likely a house, not a professional service restaurant. The atmosphere and table look little uncomfortable and dirty to me. Don’t try their lemonade! It’s just powder juice that costed 2.5 $, not worth it.

In the mood for something new, we called Bayseas for directions and received such a warm welcome over the phone, even my kids were excited to get there(even despite having just lost a soccer game.) the restaurant is clean, the décor is simple, and the service is awesome! Our server kindly brought us samples of gumbo and catfish, and both tasted wonderful. We ordered two catfish plates and an oyster plate, and not only did the food come to the table promptly, all our portions were even bigger than expected! Unlike so many other places, the staff didn’t forget us once our food arrived, but continued to come back to our table to refill our drinks and be sure our meal was perfect– which it was. In fact, our visit was perfect all the way through checkout, when the cashier took the time to visit, and even the owner came out to say hello. The whole Bayseas team is to be commended for a memorable family dining experience that left us full and happy, and eager to return. Many thanks!

I really wanted to eat at The Big Easy but they have permanently closed. So decided to try Bayseas. Tina was awesome and gave us samples of the fried catfish. So good! We came on soul food sunday. We got fried pickles for an appepetizer, smothered porkchops with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans, catfish dinner with collard greens and yams. The catfish was good and the yams were excellent. The only reason why I didnt rate it with 5 stars is because I tasted a lot of flour in the gravy. The gravy was on my mashed potatoes and my pork chop and I tasted the flour in both. I reccomend the catfish here because their batter was good and not too salty like some other places i have had.

4.5 stars. Count me in among the believers on Bayseas Catfish House. This is kind of the down home atmosphere I could never find in most metro areas throughout the country. Coupled with the friendliest service I have encountered in this city and perfectly golden fried filets of catfish, and you have a San Antonio destination worthy of your attention.
What separates Bayseas from the outset is friendly service. You can expect to be treated like family here. We had a few more questions than usual, and our order was slightly complicated. But never once was there even the slightest tinge of annoyance from our server who instead carefully and thoroughly answered all of our questions. We had a minor situation where we ordered hush puppies on one plate and it came with French fries. Those became complimentary French fries with hush puppies on the way. While I usually try to make it a point to not ask too many questions or even complain if I received the wrong order, I thought Bayseas handled each situation perfectly. But you are here for the food. Bayseas uses essentially identical coatings for most of the fish, but I like that said coating is very light and not mealy. The fish itself is tasty; we tried flounder, trout, and catfish with the latter two options being my favorite. The grilled shrimp was also quite good; we actually like the grilled version better than the fried version! Hushpuppies were pretty standard, but it turned out the French fries were actually among the better thicker cut standard fries I have had anywhere. I like that Bayseas is unpretentious and the type of place where no one has to dress up fancy to eat. This is a place where you can just go sit down, eat an amazingly filling meal, and go about your day. They have a Soul food Sunday where they bring out Southern favorites like smothered pork, black eyed peas, green beans, and the rest of the goodness. Sadly, I haven’t been able to go to this yet, but I expect to report back as satisfied as I was with the fried fish. While Bayseas hasn’t received a ton of attention on Unilocal, that shouldn’t preclude you from trying it. Along with Perry’s ridiculously awesome pork chop, this is the best meal I’ve had in my first month living in San Antonio.

We came in Soul food Sunday. I had smothered pork chops with collard greens and black eyed peas. I had to have a cup of gumbo after we were given a sample because it was simply that good! Family had shrimp, catfish and oysters. Our favorite was the catfish! Breading is crispy and a tad sweet which we loved. Restaurant is clean, service is excellent and people were friendly!

The best catfish I’ve ever had anywhere. Crisp and still juicy and the perfect seasonings. Their gumbo is fantastic and by far the best I’ve had outside of NOLA. The service is great and all the staff is friendly and helpful. If you still have room after all that deliciousness try the sweet potato pie. Second best part after the great food is the good price. Low-key date night or family dinner it’s the perfect place to go and if you really want to take out they have that covered too.
