What Gloria said: slowest parade in the world. When the average time between floats is a good three minutes, it’s easy to overdrink out of boredom. But you’re probably swilling $ 8 drinks, and if you already had dinner on the river, it’s lost it’s allure and you’re tired of what it’s costing. If you’re like me, you’ll cut out early– both out of boredom and wanting to avoid traffic. However, that’s not to say some of the floats aren’t cool, and when they were coming along a little quicker it was exciting– the different themed displays were creative, and a majority of them were/had been fundraising for great local causes. I think this Fiesta event just needs to be way better coordinated.

It’s against my religion to give any Fiesta event less than three stars, but I gotta say… the River Parade is fast-becoming one of my least favorite parts. It’s. just. so. slowwwww. If you have a great place to watch it from, where you can enjoy some beverages and catch up with friends, then it’s worth it. My suggestion? Find a Riverwalk business with a balcony, go there, order drinks and food at the bar, and when the river parade starts, you can watch it from their balcony. Or not watch. But at least you have food and drink to hold you over. Most of the big name restaurants will charge a special event fee and do buffets to watch the parade, but there are some little gems and secrets that don’t(I’m not sharing mine, sorry!).
