The food is wildly inconsistent as is the service. I enjoy Betos but the food and service vary in quality depending on the day you go. My last visit I asked for no peppers and the waitress said the kitchen refused to grill onions without peppers. The next visit I asked for additional salad dressing and they came 10 minutes later and again said the kitchen wanted to know what kind. Funny the salad comes with a standard dressing which I requested. The manager came by on the onion fiasco an apologized for the kitchen. Once the empanadas had a chipotle flavor and the next time we went –0– chipotle flavor-why? Time to find another place for empanadas. Betos bakes their empanadas and when they are right they can’t be beat but it is a very questionable result when it comes to quality. Not going back.

Small portions that leave a little to be desired if you’re just ordering a la carte but great service and experience overall. We had the chicken poblano empanadas and al pastor tacos along with a spinach and cheese quesadilla and a fish taco. 7 a la carte items plus 6 beers and two margaritas all for $ 80 out the door — not TOO bad but would like a little bit more bang for the buck.

Me and my boyfriend were near the airport with our dog and decided to come here since it’s dog friendly. Overall, the service was great. The hostess and server were really nice. I would say the food is ok, not terrible, nothing amazing either. I would come here again, but it’s not exactly a place I would go out of my way for either.

Nice people but the food was awful. If La Fonda was open on Memorial Day we would of never of come. Fun atmosphere but they couldn’t even make a tasty quesadilla. Wife wouldn’t eat her jicama salad due to the nasty taste. I tried it and I have to agree. Thank god it was only 25 bucks!

I’ve been here several times, and they never disappoint. My latest trip was on 5 May. They were super friendly, the restaurant was clean and the food was fresh and tasty like always. I had the Argentina empinada and a taco al pastor. Both are large and filling. I personally don’t need sides, but they look good too. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Will keep coming back.

This was such a bummer. Probably some of the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had, with the exception of the chicken poblano empanada, which was pretty good. I’m not sure what’s wrong with their rice. It was made with frozen mixed vegetables and was either instant rice or just not fresh. The el pastor taco was lukewarm and under seasoned, served in a room temp tortilla straight out of the bag. The iced tea was good, and my server was excellent. The hostess was kind of a weirdo. The patio area looks like a pretty nice place to sit in good weather. Inside, it’s a bit run down. They have a rug covering a hole in the floor that you can feel when you walk over it. The ductwork for the air conditioning drips condensation on to the floor. Skip it.

Good food. I ordered al pastor taco and fish taco. The tortillas are excellent and the pastor was delicious with grilled pineapple and onions blended in with the meat! I also ordered the Unilocal deal for 9.99 Margaritas that come with chips queso and guacamole and salsa. Good deal! We split between 4 people and there was still leftover. Their lemonade is also DELICIOUS. Definitely worth a try! Also the patio is pet friendly.

What can I say? The empanadas are fantastic. The atmosphere is funky and the service was great. I would definitely return the next time I’m in San Antonio. I will try something new. This time I had a chicken and poblano empanada… maybe try some beef next time.

Upon entering, i felt a flutter of hope in the atmosphere, but after the hostess and waiter couldn’t get the drink order correct several times, i knew there were going to be issues. When the drinks finally arrived, they were watered down and lacking in the alcohol that $ 7 typically pays for. After nearly an hour and two rounds of weak drink, our food finally arrived. The prices seem good, but everything is a la carte, which makes the price appropriate. The food is what threw me for a loop, the cheeseburger, empanada, and taco al pastor were flavorful and unique. But the fish taco and quesadilla lacked imagination and seemed obligatory to the menu. Also, if you notice a lack of diversity in the patronage, you should probably high tail it the other way, just saying…

The Flavors of the Ocean in the fresh ceviche, warm vegetables sprinkled in herbs that light the palete with comfort and glorious sensations. The pobalona sauce on the chicken bran and cheese nachos is one-of-a– kind and must try! I ‘ll come back for those again and again! The Pozole soup is full of throat quenching smooth comfort. Enough to cure ant cetral Texas allergy! Desert was a banana caramel empanada bursting in creamery goodness-warm flaky and mmmmmmhhhhh, mmhh’ delicious! Great coffee!

Location isn’t that great but the food is cheap and alright. The quesadillas are good, but the empanadas lack flavor, but that could be because being Puerto Rican I expect a lot of flavor in the empanadas. It was good but not amazing which is expected with the cheap prices.

Definitely a «must» place to stop and eat, whether you’re local or stopping by. Great tasting food. To start, their salsa and cheese with chips«SO» good! The civiche is fresh and very flavorful. The empanadas, especially chicken poblano, are a taste of heaven in your mouth. «Chalupa Cabra», I have never had anything like that before. You will love the cook for it. Everything about this place is wonderful. I cannot stop thinking of their delicious food and friendly service. Thank you, Marcus for the wonderful service and hospitality.

Sooooooooo good! Amazing empanadas. This is our first visit here… We’re from out of town. Found this place thru the TV Food Maps app. Guess Guy Fieri knows what he is talking about! Our waiter was awesome and recommended all the tastiest stuff. Loved the red chile beef empanadas and the Argentinian empanadas the best. Ask for Oscar. He was so nice, since it was our first visit he brought us a mini dessert empanada. Yum! Highly recommended

Went here for lunch on a Friday. I had the special which was The Karla Taco with a Ceasar side salad. Oh and this was my first FISH taco ever! So I was honestly nervous to try. So glad I decided to try because I would have missed out! That fish taco was delicious! No wait time, friendly staff no complaints from me.

Very accommodating local hole in the wall. I say this with love for this unassuming small restaurant. By 7pm there was a wait to sit inside. There is outside seating with picnic tables and a small metal play yard. Secondary to reviews, we had the combo plate with empanadas and the fish taco. Wow, chicken poblano and beef/red bean empanadas had great flavor. The fish taco was good, it had a nice sauce with it, but I still felt the need to add guacamole and salsa because of dryness. The two sauces were homemade and tasty, not impressed with the store bought chips(which were a pay item, unlike the Mexican restaurants). The ceviche was salty and flavorful, even better served with roasted vegetables and fried seasoned sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were limp, but still good. Margaritas had a typical thick sweetness to them. This isn’t Mexican, it’s considered Alt-Mex and I highly recommend this establishment in a sea of the same old, same old.

Love this place! Every time I’ve been, I have not been disappointed. Don’t be misunderstood, this is not authentic Mexican food.(There are some negative reviews about disappointed customers expecting Mexican food. Don’t take them seriously!) This food is LATIN food! It’s savory, sweet, and spicy if that’s what you like. You can’t go wrong with ANY of the empanadas. They even have dessert empanadas! Yum! Try the Chalupa Cabra Plate. it’s my new favorite. :) Sarah, our server was so attentive and helpful. We always ask our server for suggestions, but it was like Sarah had known us all our lives! To top things off, they even have a musician on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. It’s so nice walking into a place where you know the food is gonna be amazing, but then, the service is great, AND the ambiance is enjoyable. If you’re even halfway thinking about trying Beto’s out don’t read the negative reviews about how it’s not Mexican or authentic enough, JUSTGO! And see for yourself how good the food they serve really is.

This place was awesome. Came here for lunch with coworkers and our meal was excellent. The nachos and empanadas are a must. The service was a tad slow, but, given we were a large group, I wasn’t expecting a super-fast service. Will definitely come here again!

First time here and the service was good for the lunch hour crowd. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries and our group had the bean and cheese nachos for an appetizer. Nachos were great, fries were great but my cheeseburger fell apart when I was trying to eat it. Overall good place! Recommend it for lunch and will come back.

I don’t know what happened this time but our food was not good at all. Lacking flavor and it was greasy. I was really embarrassed because we took friends there as a good bye dinner before they moved. Even their kids didn’t like the cheese quesadillas — they said it was too slimy and they were playing with the grease on their plates. Our friends were polite and asked for to go boxes since they hardly touched their food but I have a feeling it was tossed when they got home. Ugh.

The food was amazing, service was great and what was even better is that there was a special on Unilocal for two mini margaritas and once I showed it to my waitress, she went to the kitchen and arrive at my table with two drinks! I was impressed that they kept their end of the deal! :) Also, while my hubby and I ate our food there was live music in the background so that created a really romantic ambience.

Thanks Triple D for another great suggestion! The wait on Friday night was about 20 minutes for a table inside but no wait outside. We decided to sit outside and though it was humid there were fans blowing. We weren’t helped for at least 10 minutes until the hostess sent us a waitress. They have a great combo you can customize with 1, 2, or 3 items with empanadas and tacos. The meal comes includes a drink and comes with rice and beans. Though if you order a la carte you will save a few cents but since it comes with a drink it’s the best deal since the drinks are at least $ 2. I ordered the chicken poblano, brazillena, and beef and red chile empanadas with double rice. My favorite was the beef and red chile… great flavor and the crust was so perfectly flaky. The waitress warned me that the brazilena was really spicy… but unfortunately I was underwhelmed. I thought it could have been spicier. My least favorite but apparently is the most popular is the chicken poblano. It wasn’t very flavorful and the middle of the empanada was a little underdone. Skip the rice because it was bland and not necessary. BF had the pazole and also some tacos which he enjoyed. His only complaint was that he wanted flour tortillas and they only serve corn. For dessert we tried the guava and cheese empanada which is a MUST! Since it was our first time, the waitress let us have these for free! Will most likely come back for the hibiscus tea, beef & red chile and guava and cheese empanadas!

Watermelon margarita with chilli-lime salt is a must do. Sit outside and enjoy live music(when available). Al Pastor was good but for those of you who don’t care for onions, choose something else. Fish tacos were fresh and light. Definitely coming back next trip to San Antonio.

When you go to Beto’s, you’re going for the delicious food! Was recommended this spot by family and as I approached, the building gave me doubts. That all changed when I took a bite out of their monster fish tacos! Tuesday is Fish Taco day, getting 2 fish tacos, which is more like 4 tacos, a salad and drink for $ 7.99! The tacos are brilliantly put together and are topped with what tastes and appears to be a cream sauce that really make this dish pop! I’ve been going back every Tuesday just for the tacos! Then there is that added benefit of getting a free empanada on your first visit! I’ve taken bites of the meat empanada and it’s delicious as well! Overall, the building leaves something to be desired but if you can get past the looks of the place, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the food!

We stopped at this place on our way bk to Dallas. Been it was DDD recommend we wanted to give it a try. Chips queso and hot sauce– were good. Queso had a good taste! I ordered the chicken poblano empanada and carne asada quesadilla. Carne asada quesadilla had more cheese than carne. :( Empanada had more chile poblano than chicken. Crust was not crispy like the reviews said. It was more undercooked and soggy :(:(

4.8STARS! The chipotle based salsa is fuming with flavor and just the right amount of spicy heat. It comes out warm like it should. The chips are crisp and flakey and queso comes with the chips and salsa order. The queso has fresh veggies in it and boy does it have some heat. Mix the salsa with it to create a cool chile con queso feel. They offer only one matgarita on the rocks option and its $ 6.95. Thats a little more than it should be based on the flavor. Its moderate on kick but does have a smooth tasting mix that doesnt come off too sour. A little more kick would suffice at that price. I ordered the black bean soup. Packed packed packed with awesome spicy flavor but not too much allowing the beans to take hold. The texture is smooth and thick. The side salad ais basic but just enough to pull the heat off ypur palette for a quick second. They even drop a little avacado sauce in it. Main course: I had the chicken pablano empanada and damn its good. Super flaky and the chicken is all pure white meat and has a smooth pablano taste. Its like pot pie but so much better! Yum and as always Enjoy!

How do you judge a place in its chips n salsa is beyond me. The food was great and prices fair. The service was quick and attentive. The only thing that threw me was the steel smell from the stainless steel tables, overlooked quickly with the quality and quantity of food. I bookmarked this place because it hit the spot. The empanadas are worth every penny. The grilled fish taco… Eh… The al pastor taco was great but again the presentation on the plate, nice choice of south American beer and great service will. Bring me back… Not to mention Betos was featured on food network! For a reason.

This place was quick and easy. Good selection of options, but not the best I’ve tasted. The salsa and guac was quite good though. Best tip about this place: EXTREMELYSMALL Portions. I ordered a salad to go with my one taco, planning on the salad being the main entrée — it was about the size of a side salad. take a look at the pic.
