Abuela’s Mexican Restaurant

Very friendly staff, festive environment, and amazing tortillas, both corn and flour. Salsa, potatoes, and beans were all pretty flavorless.

The flour tortillas are awesome. Every thing is cooked fresh and i always pick this place first from any other Mexican restaurant in SA

I can’t believe I’ve never been here before! My husband and I always travel to great lengths to get authentic Mexican Food when all along it was less than five miles away. It makes perfect sense that they would name it Abuela’s Restaurant because it taste just like grandmas cooking and feels just like her kitchen. The service is great and the food is what’s up! If you go on a wknd, make sure you go with patience because they do get very busy but I promise you, it’s soooo worth it!

This is quickly becoming our go-​to spot, especially for breakfast. Love the friendly local feel and the food is a great experience at a very good price. My only criticism is that I wish they were open for dinner. Fresh hot soft tortillas and obviously homemade salsa are always good. Please try it! I want to keep them around.

Almost perfect! Breakfast was delicious and home style atmosphere. The beans could have been hotter and no beer:(will definitely be back in and enjoy the fresh tortillas. Thank you!

Fantastic Food! And I’m very picky. What makes it even more exceptional is the friendly people here. The menudo has great flavor, not too spicy… And they are now open later on Friday and Saturday! !! Definitely my go to Mexican food place.
I almost forgot to mention the homemade tortillas! I’ve only had the corn, but they are melt in your mouth delish!

As a vegetarian, reviewing a taco place isn’t something I normally think to do because I eat so little of the menu.
However I wanted to support this Mom and pop joint with a elite boosted review.
Walking in, nothing’s hidden. Bathrooms are straight ahead and clearly labeled. The kitchen is obvious with a pick up window spanning the length of the counter/​register area. You can seat yourself or go to the register for to-​go. They let me prepay my meal as I wanted a quick exit after eating.

The owner seems to know all the regulars and I enjoyed the idea behind the table seating for large parties and intimate 2 seaters being by the window allowing you to feel comfortable coming by yourself or bringing the whole family!
The soda choices are can, so no refills here.
With 2 TVs you get your choice of news vs entertainment while you eat.
My papas rancheras was great quality. Large chunks of properly and freshly cooked potatoes, fresh soft tortillas, and a good kick of spicy flavor from the sauce.
I’m a spice whimp so I didn’t utilize a large quantity of the salsa I was given but it looks and smells fresh and homemade like most everything here.
Overall $ 9.25 for 3 tacos plus soda isn’t bad, and the freshness of everything made it worth skipping the drive thru lines at las palapas to do dine in.
I feel it’s important to note I came in before lunch hours so I did not get the chips and salsa offered to the guests coming in after 10am.

It is the Best neighborhood restaurant. To say the least they have the best breakfast tacos in all of San Antonio, but the specials are great also. It is truly like walking into my Abuela’s house.

I’ve only been here for breakfast, and it’s great!!! I can smell the lunch being prepared and it’s a wonderful aroma. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The place is always clean. I have to send my daughter, that lives in PA, some of their freshly made tortillas because she fell in love with them the first time we ate them!!!

My husband and I decided to try a new breakfast place. We’d seen Abuelas and decided to give it a try. NO REGRETS! It’s clean which matters to me-it’s not fancy but it’s well kept and clean. Shows they take care and pride. The staff are all friendly and attentive. The food is great and fairly priced. It’s obviously a family run business and has a family feel. We have always been greeted with a smile and have never been disappointed. This has become our new go to breakfast place! Try it-​you won’t be disappointed.

Best tacos hands down, friendly environment, and friendly staff. Would highly recommend this place to anyone, had the carne asada and carne guisada tacos and they were excellent.
The refried beans and rice are good, which is important to me because in most restaurants they are overlooked and neglected. 5 stars indeed.

Really enjoyed the bean, bacon, and cheese and bean, potato, chorizo I got. The tortillas were amazing, soft, but firm, kinda like a perfect all dente pasta. My gfs tacos were very good as well. The salsas were very delicious, the Verde was spicy, but still very enjoyable. Coffee was hot and strong, not watered down like some Mexican restaurants. Very affordable and reasonably priced. Definitely returning here!

I just adore this place — I have been here many times for take out breakfast tacos and once for dine in breakfast. The red salsa is TO DIE FOR — seriously, I dream about this stuff. They are so friendly and casual — they make you feel like family. Everything is so flavorful and well made — homemade corn tortillas… yum. I’m so excited to have a place like this so close to me!

A go to Mexican breakfast place! We’ve tried most in the area and Abuelitas beats them all, the food is great, home made tortillas — love the carne guisada, chorizo and egg and most other tacos :)
Coffee is good, the place is clean and bright and run by an awesome family that gives you friendly customer service each and every time. The ‘abuelitas’ really existed and you can learn more about them from the owners.
Prices are reasonable, this is a nice, no frills place so you don’t feel like you’re paying for over the top ‘authentic’ décor. If you’re in this side of town give it a try for sure.

Average and nothing more. Tortillas were homemade but the beans tasted a little on the canned side.

Tacos are really good here. Although on the smaller side. Would be great if lower prices to reflect that or if going to keep same prices a give a slightly bigger taco. like the restaurant el palmar. This plate though never disappoints and serves good breakfast. Have yet to try their dinner.

A buddy of mine suggested Abuelas for a quick breakfast and I wasn’t disappointed. I had the barbacoa plate which came with beans and papas. We also enjoyed some complimentary chips and salsa. Washed everything down with sweet tea. Place was clean and the ladies were extremely friendly.

This was awful they should be ashamed to call this mexican food… the gorditas were swimming in grease asked for extra napkins and they are Heb cheapest you can buy. the cheese enchiladas were barely edible I will not go back

I hate when places advertise they are open and when we call to order food they say they are closed! Get it together abuelas.

BRAND NEW family owned & operated Mexican restaurant and after my first visit I will most definitely be going back. Other than some young and not to confident servers the FOOD is spot on. Delicious and soft homemade flour tortillas, fresh beans and vegetables everyday, and overall very comforting. Just like eating tacos from Your own abuela at home.
