Fabulous Sunday brunch with good food, a fantastic atmosphere, and amiable service. We had a group of 6, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, wine and beer selection were divine. Lots of sweet and savory food options. The best part was the man playing the Chapman Stick to popular songs of today. We were blown away by him! The trip to the bathroom brought back a lot of conversation points. All in all, it was a great dining experience in Salida!

Really good, inventive food for Sunday brunch. Fresh ingredients, cooked very well. Wonderful atmosphere with live music from Dave on the Chapman Stick(look it up!). The only downside and reason for loss of one star is that service, while very friendly, was verrrrry slow.

You know how you’ve had a great day and you want to finish the evening with a quiet, wonderfully prepared, well presented meal. Well, tonight was lovely. Sherree’s care of us was impeccable. The flash fried shishito peppers were great. The warm wild mushroom salad with tiny baby kales was a hit. Both of us had the French onion soup. Lovely, light, puff pastry with just the right amount of cheese. Very rich, winey broth. Sherree told us she’d misjudged the timing on our entrees. No problem. When it arrived, the cassoulet was rich, with wonderful depth. The flank steak on a potato latke was perfectly cooked. Very flavorful. Sherree comped us our champagne. This was done without our asking or even being concerned about the delay. Just a superb experience of great food and conscientious service. Thank you!

Never expected to see a French restaurant in Salida, Colorado. Well prepared French, in a heavier, creamier style than the New Orleans style. Good wine Selection, and serving staff is knowledgeable. Service was attentive, good humored, and knowledgeable. To have Haute Cuisine in a area where agriculture, outdoor sports, and not be in a swank resort is an impressive feat. The atmosphere is best described as a convivial neighborhood bar. This is A destination restaurant That I would travel from Denver or Colorado Springs to eat. Not, perhaps cross country. There is a wide selection of menu items. A really impressive, unaffected French Dining experience. Genuine atmosphere and service and not in any way tarted up with French stereotypical decorations or attitude. Along the Main Street of downtown Salida.

It looked promising from the street, but disappointed in the end. Service was fine; not good, not great. Just fine. Went there for lunch with the hubby. I ordered the fish tacos which came with a generous amount of shredded cheese on top — which wasn’t mentioned on the actual menu. I really hate when ingredients, especially allergy related ones, are omitted from the menu. Also, fish with cheese just does not sound tasty. Lastly, there were so many flies inside the restaurant. Thought it was one that snuck in until I kept noticing more and more. Not worth it.

Good drinks? Sure. But that does not compensate for the poor service and drunk bartender(the guy with pinkish/red hair) who was so rude we all nearly walked out(and in hindsight, we wish we had). This place had a bad vibe from the time we walked in the door. It took a local patron at the bar to greet us, since the bar staff was too hammered to even acknowledge our presence, even though there were only 5 other people there. After we started to describe a type of cocktail from another bar in Crested Butte, the bartender literally said«Then I suggest you get in your car and drive to Crested Butte.» Again the local patron had to compensate and«translate» that we should just describe the kind of drink we want. The bartender then doubled down on the insult by telling us we can’t describe a drink by the bar, in very slurred speech, of course. It the took 3 requests to even get a drink menu, since he couldn’t quite comprehend the request. The local patron again stepped in by providing hers. The bartender also continued to stare at one woman who was with us, making her feel quite uncomfortable. After we got our bill, the bartender proceeded to forget about us for at least 10 minutes because he was too busy bs’ing with his buddies. So, basically, that guy ought to be fired. Awful experience. Worst. Customer. Service. Ever.

I rarely write reviews. But this was so bad i have to do it. It started with service — a ‘take it or leave it’ approach. i quickly learned not to ask any questions. This was followed by food. I ordered the special — a Mahi. Actually the veggies were fine, though a tad salty. But the Mahi was atrocious. Dry, and cold right under the surface. Same with other accompaniments(rice). When inquired how it was i said this. No ‘sorry’ no nothing. I have spent other unsatisfactory $ 30. But this stands out, in this lovely quaint artistic creative town of Salida, these folks advertising themselves as ‘fine food’. Wrong. Don’t go. But yes. Perhaps Tuesdays are slow days in Salida. Perhaps those who know how to wait and those who know how to cook were all on vacation.

After waiting 30 minutes for Shallots to open due to the reviews we were very disappointed. Service was friendly but very slow. Waited 45 minutes for our food and then it was cold. Hash browns were way undercooked. The one thing that made it worthwhile was the musician that played nice soft music on an instrument I have never seen. I won’t be back.

I can’t speak to their food or serving staff, but the bar is top-notch! Popped in for a couple of cocktails on a recent trip to Colorado, and was blown away by the creativity of the bartender. Mad chemistry skills! Definitely worth a visit.

I took my family here the Saturday night after Christmas around 5:30, well before the dinner rush. The bartender was a smartass and there were only 2 waitresses who couldn’t keep up with a total of 4 tables(8 by the time we left). By the time dinner was done we had a laundry list of complaints. My boyfriend ordered 2 drinks before they could actually make one because they were out of ginger beer. The menu designated the Grilled Avocado Salad as gluten free but was broight to me with 4 pieces of bread on it. At any other restaurant this would be designated as «gluten free option available upon request». Even though the waitress read back my order with the shrimp I requested(on the menu, not a special order), there were no shrimp on my salad. Of course the waitress had disappeared so we flagged down the other waitress to ask for the shrimp. A few minutes later a small dish of 3 shrimp were tossed onto our table. Great. An extra $ 3 for 3 shrimp. $ 18 Baked Shrimp Scampi(also designated GF with a side of gluten-filled pasta), which my sister & boyfriend ordered, was some sort of shrimp in a pesto sauce. Not technically shrimp scampi. And for $ 18 you get a whopping 6 shrimp! To end my less than mediocre experience, I spent the last 20 to 30 minutes of my dinner without a beverage. I guess I should have ordered a water along with my glass of wine to start with. One out of our party of four left the restaurant full on a check of $ 100. I had to go home & eat a real dinner.

How did this place get 4.5 stars? Servers were very nice but definitely needed a retraining course. «Dithering» would probably best describe the manner of service by the person assigned to us. She was very pleasant and acted accommodating, but she would take an order or follow up and then wander off to another table, clearly doing nothing with it. She spent 5 minutes cleaning a table for us after we had sat down at another table(as directed by the bartender) and was clearly flummoxed when we did not want to move. The bartender had a lot of trouble with my wife’s vodka and tonic, at least according to the server. I thought he was mostly busy chatting with his friends. All of this might have been OK if the food had been great, but it was not. It was okay — diner-quality like the First Street Café(formerly at this location) served but certainly not«let’s go out for a nice dinner» quality. The good news was that our dinner tab for two, with one drink and one beer, was under $ 40 — but we stuck with a salad and small plate for dinner — not the $ 20+ entrees offered on the menu. If we had order $ 24 entrees plus drinks and had a $ 75 tab I would have been really unhappy. At $ 40 we had kind of a high diner tab and a weirdly entertaining evening, watching the help — but we will not go back in the foreseeable future. If you are reading this review, check out The Fritz, Laughing Ladies, Ferraro’s, Amica’s, Twisted Cork, Benson’s(pub food)…lots of excellent choices.

Went there for dinner. I had the fish tacos, I can generally identify the fish in the tacos but this time I could not. They were also just barely warm. We waited about an hour for our meals, and they were really just okay. There was nothing I would recommend. The cool thing though was watching the bartender make crazy drinks he definitely knew allot about drink making. Our server was very nice and filled my water cup about 6 times while we waited over an hour for our food. I will not return.

Service was pleasant, and well trained. There’s a great menu for breakfast and a overly stocked liquor menu. Food was great, the restaurant was packed for the majority of the time of me being there. The food was amazing! A little slow getting out of the kitchen, but other than that I will be returning my next trip in town!

We have a vacation home in Salida Colorado and like to dine out often when we are in town. The old«First Street Café» was a favorite breakfast spot for many years but the owners had to close shop due to health concerns. Shallots opened In the same building last year. Having heard many fine reports from locals, we decided to try it ourselves for dinner tonight. Our expectations were high, and we were not disappointed. To start we has the pot stickers(served with a yummy soy/ginger sauce). The dinner salad was good but the dressing(tomato, shallot, vinaigrette) was fantastic. The Stuffed Chicken Marsala was out of this world(stuffed with goat cheese and served with pasta, marinara sauce and asparagus). My husband had the ribs and they were also very good. A little heavy on the sauces for his particular taste but cooked right and served with great sides. When you visit Salida, add Shallots to your A list. They are open for breakfast(in season), lunch and dinner. We have heard that the cocktail menu is extensive as well!

Nice place for breakfast. I overheard that it used to be the First Street Café. The sausage was tasty and the biscuits and gravy were just right. Nice comfortable atmosphere.
