Ken’s Kickin’ Chicken

Stopped here on a whim for a comfort food dinner since I didn’t know what to go home and make, oh boy am I glad I did!
Got a thanksgiving chicken pot pie and an individual chicken pot pie. I have to say they were the best pies I’ve ever eaten. Fresh carrots, peas, nice chunks of white breast meat and a thin layer of stuffing right under the pie crust.
Made a perfect home cooked meal to serve the family. You must try it if you haven’t already.

CALL FIRST! Super annoyed that I drove all the way to Salem from Lynn because the Lynn store was closed for summer hours only to find out that the Salem store was closed too. Their website said they are open on Sunday in Salem. A sign on the door said that their AC wasn’t working so they closed. It’s 70 degrees today and they sell prepared foods. Really? Closed because it’s too hot? Don’t get me wrong they have great food but this was a total disappointment.

My husband Donnie and I love ken’s chicken pies! Always fresh ingredients and a great price! Catering is available as well. Check it out if you’re in the area. A nice change to typical New England food!

I’ve gone there several times for their chicken pie. Tried them all. The one with just chicken (all white meat), chicken and veggies, chicken with stuffing, and chicken with everything.
Lately the sauce has become salty and sour. This time I had the chicken w/​stuffing. The pie was inedible with stuffing sour and sauce greasy and salty. The crust fell apart and had no body. I threw the pie out.
Seriously, time for the owner to step in and take control. The pies used to be great. Not any more. Used to love them

Tip for all: when re-​heating/​baking these pies in the oven, have a sheet pan underneath. You do not want to have your oven have a taste of all that ooey gooey goodness that could be in your tummy. Nope, should all just be for you!
This pie makes the house smell like comfort. Yum. It tastes as good as it smells too. My husband got the chicken lovers’(which by the way was all chicken) pie. I wasn’t at the store when my husband picked it up but he said that there were a lot of varieties of pie in there. This pie came with huge chunks of chicken and was loaded with yummy gravy. The crust was a perfect complement to all that gravy goodness. We definitely had more than one slice of this pie. Definitely worth checking out. We preferred this pie over Harrow’s.

Best fresh chicken pie available! We get the chicken and stuffing pie which is epic. I love it. Yummy gravy, big pieces of white meat chicken and the stuffing stays perfect and doesn’t get soggy. Follow the directions and egg wash the top. Great product, blows harrows out of the water.

Awesome, delicious – Love the thanksgiving pie, shepherds pie, and squash side! My hubby loves the corn bread:) Keep up the hard work!

We tried the american chop suey and chicken parm. It was like eating low end wedding food from a cheap catering service.
The Thanksgiving chicken pie did not have the stuffing and vegetables like it was supposed to. Instead was ½ lb of chicken with 2 lbs of gravy The crust had no taste.
The pie was $ 21.00. Next time I’ll stick with Periwinkles for $ 9.95 and far superior.

The pot pies, which come in several varieties, are excellent, and the store is easy to get to and convenient.

I like chicken pies, but I like it when the gravy is thick. Theirs is very thin.

OMG, get the chicken pie with stuffing immediately!!! You’ll get big chunks of chicken, scoops of stuffing and warm crazy all contained in a devious pie crust. It’s like a hug for your belly from the inside :)
The sides at Kens are great, too. You won’t need a side of gravy but grab it anyway — use it for another meal or just to have on hand.

I know there are other pie guys out there, but none compare to this place. I brought one home for my finacee and I one night. I should preface this by saying my fiancée makes a pretty mean pie herself, but this was the one and only time I was able to say out loud, «Sorry to say it babe yours is good this is better.» No bottle thrown at my head, no tossing chairs, because it was so good I knew she’d agree, and normally I’m pretty confident she won’t agree with me. Right after I said it she said right back“don’t I know it!” That’s how good the pie, specifically the thanksgiving, is.

Nice chicken pot pie with lots of white meat and great stuffing. Love the pie crust!
Directions on top makes this an easy dinner to serve when you don’t have the time.
Would go back again for another dinner on a busy winter night!

I live in Salem for 6 years and I’ve just had my first pot pie (Thanksgiving). Oh my I’m in love. My son’s school does fundraise with Ken’s. Yay for local support!

I heard some really great reviews from friends. While driving through Salem one day, I decided to stop by Ken’s and get a couple of large chicken pies and some side dishes too. There were going to be four of us for dinner that evening and I decided to bring home the dinner, rather than have to cook. I have never liked dark meat on any poultry but when it comes to chicken pies and turkey pies, the pies always taste better when there is some dark meat included. That is where the flavor comes from. When I walked in, it was a big building and very clean. The parking was plentiful, I was approached by a very nice girl who was at the cash register and asked me if I needed any assistance. I thanked her and told her after I get through looking through the menu and refrigerators, I more than likely will need her assistance. I did.
For some strange reason, all I could find were «white meat» pies. I inquired about this and was told they only make their pies with all white meat. I was a little disappointed but I figured since I was there, I better get something. One of the pies I purchased had stuffing in it. We all love stuffing but it lacked meat and gravy. We were saved as I bought a second pie at the same time and it was all meat and gravy. A great taste and nice crust, just lacking that extra «punch» with the dark meat. The sides were all good too as were the soups.
Perhaps in the future, they will take orders for those who would like a bit of dark meat in their pies. While there, I had inquired about «special orders» and was told that they did not do that. We will just have to wait and see.

Ken’s has the biggest & best chicken pies I’ve ever had!
LOCATION TIP: They’re located behind the Hess station, you’ll see their sign off to the right of the gas station take that road (it looks like a driveway) and Ken’s is at the end of it. The big, white, warehouse looking place.
My favorite is the Thanksgiving Dinner Pie. It literally has 5lbs of chicken in the pie, and the pieces are huge. You’ll definitely need a knife. The vegetables are crisp and fresh. His gravy is delicious… and in the Thanksgiving Dinner Pie, the stuffing is definitely NOT Stove Top. You could tell it had a little bit more thought put into the type of stuffing used. Great quality.
Ken, himself, is a very funny guy and has this place running like a well oiled machine. You’re in & out with your pies in minutes.
If you’re having some people over for a game or just a get together and don’t feel like cooking, I’d pick up 2 of Ken’s pies. They’ll easily feed 6 – 8 people, and your guests will definitely be asking for the address.

I’ve heard a lot of rave reviews about Ken’s pies. I knew Ken when he owned Taste of Thyme and know he is a solid cook. I got the Thanksgiving pie — larger size feeds a family of 4 or 2 adults with plenty of leftovers for lunch. ($ 18). I’d like to try the sides as those look yummy too. He also has a $ 9 pie that would feed 2 people. The pie is delicious with big chucks of chicken, stuffing (!), carrots and peas. He has other varieties but this pie was awesome. The chicken has big tender cuts of white meat. Ken’s style is more chunky and hearty than small bites. Save that for Mrs. Budds. Ken’s definitely is homemade.
I think this is a great find for a quick dinner to pick up on your way home. It’s behind the gas station and HMA with parking.

Ken’s Kickin’ Chicken is nestled away, off the main roads in Salem, and frankly somewhat hard to find. They would do well to have a sign closer to the main road, although based on speaking with the owner it doesn’t seem like they need a lot more advertising. I can see why after tasting their delicious chicken pot pie with stuffing and vegetables!
A friend told my boyfriend that we simply had to try Ken’s, after we had raved about Harrow’s. The pie is just as good, if not more unique. I’ve never heard of including stuffing in a pie! Yum! They had several different pies to choose from, plus sides, and soups. I was tempted to try their beef stew but figured a pie was enough for now. The price is great, even better than the other local pot pie places. And… did I say it was delicious yet? Absolutely delicious.
If you love comfort foods like chicken pot pies, then this is the place for you. We were helped immediately by the owner, there was ample parking, the prices were definitely right, and most important of all, the chicken pie was awesome. I cannot recommend stopping here highly enough. Do it! It’s cold out there and this pie will hit the spot!

I’ve never liked chicken pot pie or any other kind of pie with meat in it.
This place changed my mind.
