We absolutely love this place. We live locally and come for dinner often. My family is from Northern Ireland, so we are always craving the«British» side of the menu, but the curry also pleases everyone else who doesn’t want fish n chips and such. I have always have great curry here. If you’re looking for Thai-style curry, there is another place, but for what it is, this curry is fantastic. I always get the sausage rolls and English pasty. I’ve also had the shepherd’s pie and fish n chips. I’m telling you, we just came back from Northern Ireland and we all wished Moon had a place there. Also, we had my 30th birthday party there the other night and had a blast. I’m not sure our waiter loved us, but I hoped he made decent money, as my friends and family are usually great tippers. We will be back, it’s one of our favorites!

Starting positive, the beer was good and I ordered the house special curry, was not spicy enough however that was fixed immediately. The coleslaw was good. I’m English so I know what our food is. The shepherds pie was completely under seasoned, no gravy in the mix, unseasoned meat and potatoes, too much bland(no jokes please) cheese, balanced totally wrong. This is a very easy dish so criticism when it’s so wrong I feel is fair. I suggest it could have been fixed with oxo or at least bisto. If I had only ordered the Shepard pie this would be 1 star. In other observations we had 2 sangrias, they were completely different from each other, the first was like lemonade, the second was darker and sour which might have been fine if the first wasn’t so sweet.

My boyfriend kept saying we had to go here and the name certainly intrigued me, but I gotta admit I had very low expectations when I saw this was just a normal British-style pub and not an exotic elvish café or whatever fantasy images the name conjured in my mind. HOWEVER, I was wrong because this place is totally legit and certainly a step above your average pub food. The Moon Under Water certainly covers all of its bases– from burgers to British-style curries, from beer to cabana-style cocktails. The food here is seriously great, I can’t emphasize that enough– the guinness burger and the curry fries were stand outs in my opinion. If I lived closer I’d certainly come back for the wide variety of British and Indian food options. And I will even say that while the décor is fairly run-of-the-mill flags and meant-to-look-original wood paneling, it does have some really nice touches of stained glass that make it more unique. ALLINALL, a nice spot on the St. Petersburg waterfront with food that really exceeds expectations.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and have never been disappointed. The service is always great and never a long wait for food/drinks to arrive. It’s the perfect place to sit outside and people-watch. I recommend any of their Indian Curries, when you order a platter be sure to ask for garlic naan bread. I highly recommend the house special curry with shrimp.

Beer was great. However I ordered the Bangers and Mash. This is a traditional English dinner comprised of sausage and mashed potatoes. The sausage was your run of the mill basic grocery store kielbasa which were over cooked, the mashed potatoes were instant, the gravy was straight out of a jar with mushrooms and sautéed onions added, plus a side of canned Bushes baked beans. Ironically there we’re number of Indian items on the menu at this English pub.

This place is set in a very upscale part of St. Pete, right around the corner from all the museums and high-end stores. We met a few friends to eat and sat right out front on the porch, which had fans going and was actually quite pleasant for such a hot day. The menu at first surprised me, with an emphasis on Indian cuisine and throwing in things like the Guinness burger and fries. Most of our crew got the Indian, which they raved time and time again about but I went with the burger. The burger had grilled onions, based in Guinness Beer, inside of the patty and was topped with a delicious sauce and some bomb-dot-com fries! I am a huge fan of anything made from potatoes, which also comes with a high standard and room to judge. These fries exceeded the cut and were a great pairing with an outstanding burger which didn’t break the bank. If you are in town and looking for a nice place to eat where you’re guaranteed to get a great meal, this is your kind of place!

Nice location, nice ambiance, food was just okay. Service was great and friendly. They handled our large party well. But the hummus was boring and even the chicken tikka masala was not exciting. Their accelerator for the masala was very spicy so that was a nice surprise. The rice was disappointing.

Our party ordered all the different curries, and it was decent. Our friend had recommended this place for the curry. I tried their Malay Malaysian curry, an aromatic coconut curry finished with potatoes, and it wasn’t half bad. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great.

I’ve never really been introduced to many curries, so this seems like a good introductory place to try it out for the first time. I sampled some of my sister’s green curry, which was yummy, but my tikka masala was really good! I made mine a platter so we could share the salad and naan. Go for the garlic naan– that stuff is addictive. The«salad» or whatever was a little unexpected and was composted of just pickled onion and tomato; a few bites satisfies your curiosity before it just gets too much. We both got veggies & tofu, and everything was cooked well and the sauces were nice and thick. If you’re here, definitely get their tea!!! The golden apricot is out of this world, and their dispensing containers for iced tea pretty much«pee» into your cup of ice. It’s hilarious and delightful, and I would come back just for that. I came here knowing I would end up sweating out curry at the gym later in the day, and did I? Of course. To the people at the gym who had to suffer: sorry I ain’t sorry. Lunch was delicious.

If you love curry, the place is a must! The overall ambiance is warm and welcoming but doesn’t initially let on that they have amazing curry. Don’t let that fool you, they have a short but well balanced range of flavor and the quality is well above most exclusively curry producing establishments. I would make the journey to this place time and time just for the curry! I give one star less than 5 just because, while the food was amazing customer service was not. It was good but nothing far apart from the rest.

It was cute. The food was good. The location was great. The service was alright, just a few of what I call rookie mistakes. I was 1 of a party of 8. My daughter was the only child of a table of adults, and her food came out last. It was busy, but it looked like they had appropriate staff. I saw my server enough, she just wasn’t swinging by with the refills or trying to charm or interact with us at all really. Little things like having to ask for ketchup for our fries etc. The menu was huge. The plus of that was lots of choices regarding food, and decent price range. The downside to SUCH a large menu was, never in my life have I been in one spot and had to decide do I want Indian, US or British food. I ended up with a burger cause there was way too many choices. I ordered the Moon burger. It was delicious. The curry fries were also interesting twist. They must have heard Brett’s complaint about fries in his review, because I thought they were delicious/fresh tasting.

I’ll admit ahead of time, I may be a little biased here(a 4.5 star rating would probably be more accurate). But it’s been a while since I’ve been to a restaurant that promised something incredibly spicy and actually delivered on that fact(while still being delicious). Add that to our incredibly service and my friends and I had an awesome night out! My friends and I checked out a few restaurants along Beach Drive, but everywhere else either had nothing we wanted, or was too expensive. Moon Under Water ended up being exactly what we were looking for. The Moon Under Water is a comfortable British pub-style restaurant. The outside dining looked very pleasant but we opted to sit inside. The restaurant is fairly dark, with lots of wood and a few eclectic pieces on the wall, very reminiscent of the classic British pub image. I was especially tickled with the unique fans situated above the bar. Our server Brittany was really one of the best parts of the night. She was attentive, friendly, and just the right level of chatty. She was also very willing to accommodate one of my friend’s fairly particular and peculiar requests when it came to drinks, and she made sure to explain any questions we had about the menu. She’s really what bumped my rating up from 4 to 5 stars! My table ordered a wide variety of food and drinks, and we were all very satisfied with the results. My St. Pete Old fashioned was remarkably good, as was my partner’s Black Adder. The food itself was a wide array of standard pub-food with the classic British twist of also including a lot of Indian inspired flavors and curries. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo platter with the added curry kicker potion. I was looking for something spicy and got what I was looking for: it wasn’t the spiciest thing I’ve ever eaten, though my spice scale is way out of whack compared to most, but it was still very hot. And incredibly delicious. Even the rice, which came with everyone’s meal, was remarkable and well loved by all of us. My friend’s Open Face Chicken Tikka Sandwich was similarly tasty, as was my partner’s Mahi Mahi. We were very happy with the entire dinner. The price for my two friends was about $ 40, while for my partner and myself it was closer to $ 70. This was mostly because we had more drinks, though we were a little surprised that our price was so much higher. It was all in the drinks though: the food itself was very reasonably priced(as were most of the drinks, just pay attention when you’re ordering). And thanks to the great service, we were happy to pay. So I definitely suggest taking the time to stop in to The Moon Under Water. The jolly pub atmosphere is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a cold beer and a some great grub. Give it a try!

My go-to for Beach Drive al fresco lunching! There are plenty of tables outside for your viewing pleasure of the park, water and people. I’m not a fan of the British fare like shepherds pie, but what keeps me coming back are the CURRIES! You can build your own but I almost always go for the Chicken Tikka Masala with the garlic naan. Drool! I’ve only sat inside a couple of times and it’s kinda dark and boring. Casual but not much going on when you have such a beautiful view outside. If you’re looking for a quiet dinner I would suggest inside. I prefer the people watching outside and also grabbing a quick bite at the bar. The drinks are cheap, wine list just okay, but everyone I send here loves it! So charming!

This place seems to be over rated but I guess they must have some nice dishes and some good cocktails. I think that many tourists come here because hotels recommend it as a great place to go for lunch and dinner, people like to watch games, and that’s why this place is so popular. As for food, I see nothing special. Even opposite. I have been here twice and both times the customer service was so-so and the dish was opposite from good. Last time we ordered two Indian dishes and they tasted kinda weird, too many spices — but did not taste Indian. The veggies were soggy and tasteless. They do have some tasty appetizers, so it’s not that bad.

Great location… Right on Beach Dr. in heart of St. Pete with amazing out door seating. Staff are helpful and the menu is quite eclectic. Got the Burger and it was very good, but do NOT get the vegetables as a side… take the extra calories and go for the fries. Lots of drink options and really a relaxed place to eat. There are a lot of competing businesses around, but this has more of a pub/bar feel and is very casual.

Mediocre food… being British shouldn’t be an excuse for crappy food as Brits are actually improving their culinary skill. Well, my beef was the curry, tikka masala tasted too watery and not enough flavor. My table also got other Indian dish but I must say none tasted anywhere close to Indian food, it’s Indian flavored Old British food… Service was mediocre also, waitress seems really annoyed and we were her inconvenience — Sorry, please take our money. Granted, food is dirt cheap here, I thought our bill was for a loner sitting at the bar, so maybe I should not be complaining?

We came here for St. Pete Restaurant Weekend because it was a great few — $ 30 for two people, each receiving their own app, entrée, and dessert. Unfortunately, I think we just ordered the wrong things. For apps, the hummus was very good but the channa masala was a huge disappointment. It was basically a bowl of tomato soup and chickpeas. I had a feeing this tomato soup was going to be what they call their«Moon Signature» curry sauce, and unfortunately we had both already put in our orders for curries with that sauce. Sadly, I was right. The curries weren’t terrible, but they weren’t great and they really weren’t what I would consider curry. Even we ordered the same thing, my boyfriend strangely got orange rice while I got white. Didn’t really matter to us but it was a bit weird. For dessert we both got brownies, but we weren’t too hungry by then and the brownies were also pretty disappointing. Now, I can’t speak for the other food at the restaurant. We may have just made very poor choices. The hummus was the only thing I would ever eat again. But I can’t say that I will be back to try anything else. The ambiance, I will say, is nice, especially during the holidays with all the lights. But there are plenty of enter restaurants on beach drive with they same or better ambiance.

So many choices to eat in downtown St Pete and we almost always eat here. Why? Their curries. There are 6 curries to choose from and after having tried a few, the last 10 times or so I’ve gotten the Indian Green, and always with chicken. The chicken is always moist and I absolutely love the cilantro taste in the curry. The basmati rice served with the curries are SO tasty. It’s not just plain white basmati; it’s flavored! And the best part is, you can get as many refills as you want. I usually eat 2 – 3 portions of rice. Yeah, I’m a pig. :p And if you dare, get the«enhancer» to go with your curry. I’ll let you find out what that is for yourself. Be very careful though. Do sit outside when you go. We do. I like seeing the people walking by, cars driving by, and the view of the park across the street isn’t bad either. I assume most people agree with me because the tables outside are always full. Downtown St Pete has a lot of offer in terms of food and drink and The Moon Under Water has been consistently our favorite. Give it a try.

I really enjoyed my dining experience here. We came on a Friday night and asked to sit inside– the hostess was quick to accommodate us. We missed happy hour(dammit!) but I got a Singapore Sling which was perfect– not too sweet, a good flavor profile. Yum! I ordered the Tikha Masala curry with beef and a side of garlic naan. The Tikha Masala is a rich, red curry made from tandoori spice. As someone who hasn’t had the pleasure of trying enough Indian food– OMG. This was ridiculously good! And the rice it came with was soft and fluffy. Scoop a little bit of that curry on top of a spoonful of rice– Delicious! And then I dipped my naan in the curry and took a bite– I was in heaven! Damn that shit was good. I now am craving some curry at 7:52 in the morning. Anyways, we were with an Indian friend who gave us a brief history lesson of British Indians and why we were enjoying Indian food at a British pub. He had the lamb curry which looked amazing. Other dishes ordered at our table were the Moon curry w/chicken and Shepherd’s pie. I had a couple bites of the Moon curry and will definitely have to come back and get that. It is also a red curry, menu says it is a secret blend of 32 spices– crazy! Shepherd’s pie serving was huge! I am not a fan of potatoes and cheese so did not try. Our server was the three F’s I love: Friendly, funny, and fast. Even though it was pretty crowded, the atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and chill. Will be back! I am adding this to fave spots of downtown!
