What is it with the«hostess» in this otherwise good restaurant? Why do they keep her? Is she married to the owner? The owner should take a hard look AT her, and realize she is hurting business and people’s dining experience(see other comments)!!! I am an East Hamptoner who recommended IL Capuccino to four 27 yo friends visiting for Valentine’s Day. They made a reservation, and called again to confirm. Upon arriving, the hostess could not initially find their name, and looked at them as though they were lying. She told them they would have to wait in this tiny, awkward entrance way. The restaurant had a number of empty tables. No effort was made to make them comfortable or feel welcomed. Isn’t that her job? After 10 – 15 strange minutes when they didn’t know whether they would be seated or not, she found their name, and seated them, as if she was doing them a big favor. She took them to a table, threw the menus down, and as she walked away, said sarcastically, and disingenuously, «Have a nice dinner»! The best part is that while they were waiting to be seated — they looked up IL Capuccino on Unilocal, and found many other negative comments about the hostess. So, they were aware of what they were in for. Is this anyway to run a restaurant? A hostess’ job is to welcome patrons, make them comfortable, make them feel special, and encourage them to come back. Any complaint in a restaurant is an opportunity for the staff to turn that complaining customer around, and win them over — and there are many ways to do that. My advice — don’t let the hostess treat you like this. Complain, and don’t put up with her nastiness. Let your thoughts be known to her or the owner. It’s a shame that this otherwise nice little restaurant has such a poor representative at the front door. First impressions are VERYIMPORTANTANDMEMORABLE.

We have been going here for years now, and this used to be one of my favorite places. I like going here for my birthday dinner every year. However, over the past two years, the first thing you encounter when you walk in the door is the RUDEST hostess I have ever seen in my life. We always have a reservation, but this time she couldn’t find it in her book(my husband called ahead of time, like always). She was like, «Well did someone call you back to confirm?» He said«No, no one ever calls me back to confirm.» Then she gave us a whole lot of attitude and a table that sucked,(the same table she gave us last year) and acted like she was doing us a huge favor. As we sat there, the whole time, and it was a long time, we were facing a row of much better tables that remained completely empty until after we ate and as we were leaving, people were seated there. The food was ok, but we waited way too long for everything. I don’t think we will be coming back here again. It’s a shame because one of the best things about this place was the atmosphere. Not anymore. I’ve all ready got another place in mind for my birthday dinner next year. This is really a shame, very sad.

They don’t take reservations for 2 so had to wait an hour to be seated. We noticed a cpl of «regulars» who were seated ahead of us. They tried to be very discreet about it, but we all knew they we jumping the line. I ordered the calamari it wasn’t great it was a bit too chewy. The pasta dish I had was good and the pasta dish my wife had was also good. The garlic bread is great! Really overall the resturant. it’s only 3 stars, it’s nothing to brag about, the only real attraction is that’s it’s in Sag Harbor. If this were in nyc you probably would never even hear of it. Sorry. I had to hit you with the truth as I see it. Just keeping it real.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Sag Harbor, very reasonable prices for the hamptons and always great food. Also great garlic knots that they are known for to start your meal. The pasta bolognese is one of my favorites, along with the chicken parmigiana, I can’t wait to go back. The service staff is friendly and attentive.

Our family had the best dinner ever here last summer. Seated within 5 minutes on an August evening, the hostess thought we might have waited a little too long for waitstaff so she treated us to drinks – we had not waited too long, but the gesture was really thoughtful and welcoming. We enjoyed the seemingly non-stop garlic knots, with the chopped parsley these buttery puffs were irresistible. Each entrée was excellent, I am dreaming of my home made ravioli with a pistachio cream sauce. The service was very friendly and attentive, and, get this, even with two kids we had a leisurely dinner without feeling either rushed or waiting. When we asked about dessert, the waitstaff was so genuinely enthusiastic that we selected three to share, all delicious, especially the cannoli, tiramisu and sherbet. Can’t wait to go back.

I had an 8pm Rez with my family and we weren’t seated until 8:25. The menu looked great my friend came with us who is gluten free and had many offerings from their gluten free menu. Most of us were underwhelmed, I liked my marinara sauce but no one else at my table did. Chicken. Great. Soft shell crab. Amazing. Seafood. Good. Bolognase. Great. Pasta. Nothing special. Garlic knots. Amazing if you like it drenched. Tomato & mozzarella appetizer. The most underwhelming thing I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Reasonably priced(especially in the hamptons, so it was enticing). But not going back. Also our waitress was a little rude.

My husband and myself along with another couple dined here on a Sunday evening we had a reservation for 7:30pm we arrived a few minutes early. Upon arrival we were greeted by the most rudest hostess I’ve ever encountered she snapped«your early and I don’t think there is a table set yet» however the resturant was about half filled with plenty of tables. She did seat us as if it was an annoyance to her. The wait staff was pleasant our food arrived quickly and was very good. I asked the waitress what the hostesses name was she did tell me and asked if everything was ok shortly after the hostess approached our table in a confrontational manner and stated“do u have some sort of problem with me «I stated no I just wanted to know your name, she then stated in a snarky tone«that’s not what I heard you were talking about me». So in conclusion I will not be returning to this establishment in my opinion the hostess is supposed to be the nicest person to greet you when you arrive not treat you like a second class citizen and confront a table of paying geusts. This behavior was totally inappropriate and very unprofessional and reflects poorly on this resturant.

This paragon of culinary delight virtually never fails — I say«virtually» because our calamari weren’t great… and the charge was deducted immediately. Rarely am I willing to stand in line until a restaurant opens, but Il Capuccino is so popular that the queue begins at 5:15 or earlier during the week! The prices are reasonable — especially given the portion size and quality — and even the wine list doesn’t demand a king’s ransom. Yes, the garlic«bombs» are great, but even the side portions of pasta are excellent. If only Sag Harbor were closer to home :(

This is a stellar establishment. We went with the Sunday Pre-fix menu and it was well valued for sure. The salad was fresh, and the garlic knots were perfect as usual. The steak was cooked medium rare(as requested), and the pink sauce that it was lightly coated in was mouth watering. Nearly any option on the menu was salivating, and the ambiance added to the excellent evening. This restaurant is nestled in the edge of town, but definitely a must-try.

What a gem. The only thing I am sorry I didn’t get a chance to do was take pictures of the food because my phone was dead. Their food is so good and so fresh. I kept it simple with their chicken parm and garlic bread. I could not have asked for a better meal and it was perfectly sized. One thing I will note is that this place gets packed quick. We are at 5:30pm which is when they open for dinner and within an hour they were packed. My suggestion would be to come early.

One visit and I loved it! Steamed mussels with spicy vodka sauce were very well done. Wishing I knew how to make that sauce. The duck ravioli was also memorable. Besides I enjoyed the garlic bread so much that we ended up asking for a second round. Service was stellar and easily ranks among the friendliest restaurants I’ve been to. Décor was casually classy and they had a good selection of jazz tracks. Strongly recommend!

Have you ever dined at a place where you always know exactly what you want? The type of place you always say«years from now I will tell my children of this place». Il Capuccino is that type of place. While all the food is pretty darn amazing, honestly its the garlic bread(knots?) that is just amazing. I don’t know what black magic or drugs they put into their garlic knots, but after every bite I find myself fiending for more. It if wasn’t so amazingly delicious I’d say it was diabolical! Those who give this place a bad review, they simply have lost their love for life and finer delicacies. I pity them, as I pity you reader, if you do not simply enjoy and partake in this wonderful dining experience.

Linguini carbonara was delicious aside from the powdered taste. Garlic bread was delicious and I could have eaten that as an entire meal. Definitely on the higher price range though.

The pumpkin ravioli special was to die for, as was the chocolate lava cake! I wish the pumpkin ravioli wasn’t just seasonal. It was doused in an alfredo sauce and had cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top. Beyond words good! The décor is so cute with it’s dark lighting, twinkle lights, and straw covered wine bottles strewn all through the restaurant– very romantic setting. If i lived in the area, I would be a regular!

I struggle when reviewing this restaurant. One, because a «friend of a friend» works there and, two, I absolutely LOVE Italian food, especially NY Italian. However, this place just didn’t measure up. Additionally, I feel compelled to say that prior to offering a review, I take a peek at what others have said to see if my experience was inline with theirs. That being said, «the cheese stands alone» with this one… here goes: The garlic bread everyone seems to rave about was really nothing more than large croutons doused in garlic and parsley. Hard and crunchy, not the soft buttery consistency I was expecting. The fried calamari appetizer was quite tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. I’m wondering if it was so good as a result of being«on the house?» but I digress. Anyway, I ordered rigatoni puttanesca, which is my go to Italian dish. Typically, lots of flavor with rich, bold ingredients. Hmmm, not my dish. Sadly, while it was chock full of ingredients, the big bold flavors I had hoped for didn’t present themselves. Bland and flavorless come to mind. The house Cabernet was decent and seemed to make my pasta a little more tolerable or perhaps I was just getting drunk. For desert we ordered the gelato, red velvet cake and chocolate malt ball(I think?) I’m not entirely sure it was gelato at all, now that I think of it. It was hard and crumbly, sort of like that old ice cream that’s been in the back of the freezer for six months. The price point was decent and the ambiance nice. However, it wasn’t nearly enough to make up for what lacked on the table. As a result, I’m still craving that NY Italian dinner of which I am so fond!
