This was honestly the BEST bakery I’ve been to and it’s sad that they had to close down. Their cakes were so light, fluffy, slightly sweet, and very delicious! My #1 favorite is their green tea chiffon cake — you can really taste the tea, not overly strong, and its very light and fluffy; really the BEST cake ever! A few other favorites are the strawberry chiffon cake, and their mango cheesecake. I wish they would open another store soon, I want their cakes!

This bakery has extremely great service and they were very friendly. They helped give me quotes for cakes and did not hesitate to show me samples of their work for additional ideas. Before leaving, I bought their Strawberry chiffon, Green tea chiffon, and Blueberry custard cake to sample, which were $ 4.50−4.75 each. They accept credit card through Square and are gluten free. They all looked beautiful, but the best tasting cake to me was the blueberry custard cake. I would definitely come back just for that cake. I’m really glad they have gluten free options as I have a couple of friends that require that as part of their diet.

Liz from the café contacted me the next day and she was so kind! She offered to replace the cake and I ended up ordering the mocha chiffon flavor. I’m no longer in the area so I didn’t get to try it. but my boyfriend and his family said it’s wonderful! Im so glad they liked it because the whole reason i ordered from this spot to begin with was because of the amazing reviews. He said that it’s very moist and a huge difference from the previous cake… I’m sure the first cake being dry was just a fluke, and appreciate them even reaching out to me to replace it. Everyone i spoke with was so nice; i can’t wait to come here the next time I visit! Even if it didn’t live up to expectations initially their wonderful customer service more than made up for it

Eat Cake Café is seriously my favorite bakery. I was diagnosed Celiac and was REALLY sad that I could NEVER have Korean Cakes or Pastries again… then like a SERIOUSMIRACLE one day on Unilocal I found Eat Cake Café… I cancelled ALL plans and Ben F and I drove to Rowland Heights for this! I was skeptical on if they were ACTUALLY gluten free but they ARE! Just not ALL their products-so there’s definitely room for contamination but id have to say they are pretty good at not making someone sick! BEST of all? their cakes are SO delicious like any paris baquette, 85c, tous les jour but BETTER because they make it without wheatflour! Simply AMAZING. AND they have a few pastries like the delicious walnut roll, muffins, etc that are also gluten free. what really really gets me excited here are their giant Macarons… seriously now that is a TREAT! its kind of $ but soooo DANG worth it! The true testament to how great this place is, is that NOONE knows or suspects that the cake is Gluten Free by taste… and there’s this STIGMA that«Gluten Free» has to mean flavorless or disgusting… but done right like Eat Cake does — its just purely FANTASTIC!!! the true bummer here? they’re closed Sundays :(

Green tea chiffon cake pleeaassee! All their cakes and cream puffs are delicious! You could taste the quality of the ingredients and care they put into their baked goods. I’ve bought cakes from here before and have never been disappointed with any of them. The fact that it’s gluten free and they use caged free eggs does make a difference to your body and mind. If only it was closer to my house…

This place is ridiculous. Cakes are so delicious. As someone with Celiac disease, I only wish I lived closer. My husband and I had their fresh fruit with cream cake served at our wedding, and it was a SMASHING success. Even though we bought more cake than would feed our party(and most people under-buy wedding cake and it’s fine), we were out of cake as fast as the caterers could cut it. Our only regret is not buying more so we could have leftovers. What does this cake taste like? Fresh, juicy organic berries with light whip cream«frosting»(it’s more just like deliciously lightly sweetened clouds) layered between the lightest, fluffiest moist white cake you’ve ever tasted. Nothing is too sweet, and when you’ve finished a slice, you can’t even feel it.(This was great to get people to keep dancing after cake!) Some comments from our guests: «This is seriously the most delicious cake I’ve ever tasted.» «Can I have some more, please?» «I’d love another slice of that wedding cake… oh no, there isn’t any left? So sad!» On top of the sheer deliciousness of this cake, the bakers did a BEAUTIFUL job with its presentation. Three tiers hovered separately on floating cake stands. The lowest tier was colored in a deepest violet and the color faded into an ombré through the top tier. Stunning. I will post the one pic I have now, and later will post the professional ones. A quick note for other Celiacs: Not every item is 100% safe. Although GF, there are items(such as the mousse cakes) that use liqueurs(e.g. Bailey’s) that may have cross-contamination. If you’re extremely sensitive like I am, just make sure you ask and talk to the staff about which items are Celiac safe. They are extremely helpful.

It’s more like 3.5 — the .5 being it’s the only gluten-free bakery in the area. They offer a nice variety of cakes, pastries and breads as well as coffee and tea drinks. I have tried: Walnut Rolls The consistency of the rolls were pretty good, however they were very, very sweet — which was surprising to me. I would have liked this more if it was not so sweet. Black Sesame Ball The flavor of the sesame was there, but very light. I was expecting more of a soft consistency of jian dui, but it was more like stale hard jian dui with nothing inside. I do not recomend this. Macaron Wafer These were some of the best macarons I’ve tasted consistency wise. However I thought they were a bit too sweet for my tastes. I got the vanilla flavor for comparison — perhaps other flavors are not as sweet? Strawberry Chiffon(Slice) I was kinda disappointed with this one. Presentation wise it was quite lovely with the happy strawberry face. However this cake was kinda dry for my taste. Chiffon cakes are usually more moist. I think the consistency was right — very airy and light, but the moistness wasn’t there for me. Flavor was ok — but could have used more strawberry. Matcha Green Tea Macaron with raspberries Again, the consistency of the macaron was there, but the filling inside was not delicious aside from the raspberries. I ended up scraping the insides out and eating just the macaron and raspberries. The filling was almost cream cheese base like which I didn’t want to eat with my macaron. I might opt for the chocolate one in the future just to see if there is a difference. Coffee Organic Really good coffee — nice body and flavor. I would recommend it. Based on other people’s reviews I think I may have tried the wrong things as the above things I ordered didn’t really wow me. I’ll have to come back to try out their sweet potato and earl grey cakes.

Found this place because of work. The pastries are good. Cakes aren’t bad, either, and they’re very cute, especially the strawberries. The hot tea is okay, but not very strong. It’s a very mild flavor. The place is always fairly clean, albeit a few crumbs here and there from people munching on the treats. However, there’s definitely a manager or supervisor that completely rubs me the wrong way. She treats me if I’m stupid and, while she tries to laugh and pretend everything is all good, I can’t help but feel like she’s laughing at me. It’s not me, either, as I’ve noticed how she acted with another customer, and was a little rude to him. I’m sorry, but if I’m asking for the ingredients on something, you don’t need to talk slow like I’m a retard. Everyone else is fine. But I try to not go into the store if I somehow see that she’s in there. I rather not ruin my day. Otherwise, prices are fine, cakes are good, and it’s in an area where parking isn’t too bad.

I have only tried one cake but the cake is a delight! It’s so fluffy, yummy, and so heavenly! My boyfriend bought the red bean chiffon cake — originally we wanted the strawberry chiffon cake since many people seemed to like that one. We went to the café around 5pm and there were only about 6 cakes left to choose from. We were a bit disappointed as we thought there would be an array of cakes to choose from. They did have the strawberry chiffon cake, but the cake looked really plain(only one strawberry on top for decoration). The strawberry chiffon cake in real life looked different than the Unilocal pictures:(. Maybe they ran out of strawberries that day? I was a bit skeptical of how a red bean cake would taste like(i.e., would it taste like the red bean desserts at Phoenix or would it taste like a red bean milk shake?). But to my surprise, it is the best cake I’ve ever eaten — the right amount of moist, sugar(it is surprisingly not too sweet), red-beans inside, and fruits on top! Oh! They use rice flour instead! A definite recommend place to go to– although a bit pricey($ 33.00 for a cake that would be great for 8 people or so). They do serve organic coffee, too!

My cousin has a gluten allergy so my brother found this bakery on Unilocal to find a nice birthday cake for her. ERMAGAAAAAD the green tea gluten free cake was so good! Such a great subtle tea flavor. The cake wasn’t too dense as all other gluten free pastries I’ve tried.(*cough layer cake bakery in irvine) I’d order that cake again for my own birthday and I’m not even gluten intolerant. The only other place I’ve found comparable in taste and texture of gluten free cake is Georgetown cupcakes in Boston! Gluten or not, these two places have mastered their craft at baking. I COMMENDYOU, ANDMYLOVEHANDLESTHANKYOU(but not rly).

Another place from my Bookmark list. I never made it here on time because they close around 7:00PM which is pretty early for me. But yeah, I went in today around 5:30PM and I was happy to be there. There were three girls working and no other person was there. No customers. I first looked at their bread selections and to be honest, there were not that many to choose from. I held a tray and picked the ones I liked. There were about a little more than 10 kinds and some were just a loaf of bread and cupcakes. I got a Soboro which was $ 1.25 for today’s special compared to $ 1.50. Along with that, I got a crème bun, custard bun, corn cheese bread, and almond bread. I really wanted to try their famous strawberry and Matcha mousse cake but they did not have it in the showcase. I really like almond bread the most and they were all great in general. I dont really care about gluten-free but I guess some but not all, are gluten-free here. Staff greeted me upon entering and leaving the premise and was very kind. Will definitely be back again to actually seat down and enjoy my cake with some tea.

— Locale Destination — It’s on E Colima Rd and Brea Canyon Cut Off Rd in Rowland Heights. It’s in a big shopping plaza — McDonald’s, Yogurtland, Starbucks etc. It’s right by some auto parts shop. Inside is very roomy, simple modern design with cute characters. Good amount of seating inside, not outside. The staff were friendly and nice. No Wi-Fi ;( Daily Specials: They have some deals daily. Afternoon tea special from 2 – 5 pm. It doesn’t mention what it is. Korean bakery offers pastries, cakes(small and whole) including chiffon cakes, and Macarons. $ 2.50 for tiny macaron. $ 4.50 for a chiffon cake. They got a pretty good looking whole cakes, too. Drink menu is more like simple tea and coffee. Somebody mentioned about using gluten free rice flour, organic berries and cage-free eggs etc. — Gluttony Expedition — Hoji tea: it’s a type or tea that elderly people love to drink in Japan(lol. But it’s true!). Roasted tea — kinda lighter version of Oolong tea. Ok. Strawberry chiffon tea: My family friend used to make a bomb chiffon cake for us when we came over. So it’s sorta special cake for me. The texture was soft, but it really lacked in flavor. It’s fairly big, but it’s supposed to be big. Meh. Mango passionfruit mouse: The top mango layer — kind of thicken jello and passionfruit mouse had strong flavors. They were kinda too heavy. As a whole, meh. Especially they command it $ 4.50… Macaron: Whopping $ 8 — 2 big matcha macarons sandwich the light matcha green tea cream. The raspberries really lightened up the sandwich. Not bad! — Conqueror’s Deduction — — Very cute Korean bakery/café. Very chilled and nice staff. — The cakes look very pretty, but the price is kinda expensive for what it is. — Taste department is alright. Not impressive in any mean. Korean pastries in general are pretty looking and light in flavors and sweetness. They’re nothing so special for Japanese. We’re so spoiled by amazing pastries in Japan. I want more in the taste department. — I’m not a macaron fan, but this macaron was good. You might like it. Small one is $ 2.50. Korean bakery rarely impresses me. I like all kinds of Korean food, but almost never on their sweet department. I still wanna try the«Konjac», but that’s about it. If it weren’t so awesome to justify the high price, people would go to «85 degree» — they are cheap at least for so so pastries. The looks could go only so far. I want something awesome like the ones at «Cream Pan» in Tustin. I want something«unique» like the ones at «Phoenix». Korean bakeries really lack in those… Koreans know how to make awesome foods — BBQ, kimchi, fried chicken, soon dubu, noodles, mandu etc. Why not in the sweet department!!! I lost the hope for it…

I came here with high expectations. I love the name of the bakery. I love eating cake! My first thought upon walking in was«where is everybody?». I was the only one inside this cool looking bakery. The parking lot was packed, but it looks like everyone else was at other shops at this strip mall plaza. Maybe, I just had good timing in avoiding the crowds. I walked straight to their self serve section. I chose to try their Custard Bun cause they are my favorite kind of bread whenever I go to an Asian bakery. It costed me $ 1.75 which was a bit steep. It was filled generously with custard, but I was not a fan. I have had much better at other bakeries for about half the price. Made my way to the counter and the display cases filled with gorgeous looking cakes. The cake slice that called to me was the Blueberry Custard cake which costed me $ 4.50 I was very pleased with my Blueberry Custard cake. It was a wonderful slice of deliciousness. There were two layers of cake, two layers of custard, and two layers of blueberries. I do not know if they use the same custard in this cake as they do in the custard bun, but the custard tasted so good inside the cake. Eat Cake is a fine 3.5 star bakery destination. I would return if I were in the area. Would not go out of my way to visit. Might be changing my mind when I try more of their goodies.

Honestly? I expected better. This place definitely didn’t live up to the hype. :( We got a slice of the sweet potato cake($ 3.50), a tiny square of earl gray cake($ 3.50), and one of their stuffed macaroons($ 8 — !!!)… The earl gray cake was the best, but was maybe three bites worth. It was way overpriced. The sweet potato cake was inconsistent, with random chunks of par-cooked sweet potato thrown into the mix. And the stuffed macaroon was absolutely horrendous. We got the chocolate flavor, with two soggy chocolate macaroons sandwiching chocolate cream and raspberries. The whole piece had gotten frozen and then par-thawed, so that it was soggy and deflated, and difficult to eat. It was a straight up waste of $ 8 :( Would I return again? I’m not sure… I liked the idea of most all things being inherently gluten free(be careful though– even though they’re 100% wheat free, they do add gluten back into a few pastries to get the right consistency), but I found the items overpriced, the food not that great, and definitely nothing special… After driving all the way from south Orange County today to try it, I was left sorely disappointed. Ps– please, PLEASE– charge an extra 10cents an item, and invest in some real plates!!! It ruins the entire café/bakery atmosphere to have to eat off of a tacky paper plate that you picked up from Costco!!!

In the hunt for a birthday cake for my dad I got a recommendation to this place from a couple friends since i wanted to get something different from the usual 85C/JJ Bakery cakes. To my surprised this places cakes were all gluten free with organic and cage free ingredients! Score! It’s located in the shopping plaza on the corner of Fairway/Colima in that Mc’D and Starbucks plaza. I’ve always driven by this area and never even new this existed! Upon entering i was greeted by some friendly ladies asking if i needed any help. I kept hearing about the famous Strawberry Chiffon cake so naturally i asked if they had the full size available. But sadly they said they were already sold out of that one DOH! Not to be defeated the ladies gave me a couple suggestions by asking what kinda cakes my dad liked. Since my dad likes more fruit/asian flavors they highly suggested the red bean chiffon or the green tea cake. I went with the red bean cake but had to get a slice of the strawberry chiffon to go! The small 7″ cakes were $ 33, while the slice was $ 4.75. Definitely not cheap but hey you’re getting organic ingredients so you pay a premium. Tasting… The strawberry chiffon was super duper moist with a light strawberry flavor profile. The cream topping itself was light yet not overly sweet as expected for asian cakes. The best part was the super cute strawberry face they used to decorate the top. It was lightly glazed and just added the right amount of sweetness to the last bite. I would definitely get this again! Flavor 4⁄5 Red Bean Chiffon is a moist fluffy cake with a sweet, dedicate red bean flavor topped with light and creamy frosting. This cake actually is shaped like an angel cake since the middle is hollow. I guess they use this cake pan to keep the entire cake moist during baking? Anyway this cake is also super moist with a hint of red bean flavor with each bite. You can definitely see the light layer of red bean in the middle. The fresh organic fruits on top were also sweet and just added that extra level of flavor with each bite. If you’re a red bean lover this is definitely the cake for you! Flavor 4⁄5. Overall i definitely enjoyed the cakes here and would come back again to try other flavors. If you’re looking to get the full size cakes they highly recommend you call ahead about 3 days to order one. They also do custom cakes and decorating if you’re interested. They pretty much can make just about any size or shape if you give them your vision.

This was one of the few places that was selling gluten-free products before I even knew what it was. When I first tried this place about three years ago, I didn’t even know most of the items were gluten-free. I just thought they were made with less sugar, which I liked. These items taste way too good to be gluten-free because most of the gluten-free products I tried in the past just tasted like crap. I don’t think everything here is gluten-free but all their cakes are. They are also made with cage-free eggs and organic berries. I have tried the Match Green Tea, Strawberry, and Red Bean chiffon cakes and they were all very moist and fluffy without being too sweet. These may not be sweet enough for most people but I thought they were perfect for my palette. Eat Cake sells baked goods as well but I haven’t tried them. They don’t seem as popular as the chiffon cakes and other pastry items in the display case. I also noticed it’s selling macarons these days which I didn’t see during my first two visits. Macarons are individually wrapped and cost $ 2 to $ 2.50 depending on type. It seems like the fruit flavored ones are $ 2.50 and other ones like green tea, chocolate, almond, and earl grey are $ 2. I tried the Matcha Green Tea macaron and was blown away by how good it was. I do not like most macarons because they are way too sweet and taste artificial. Most of the time I can’t even tell what flavors they are because all I can taste is sugar. This was simply perfect. Texture was spot on. Slightly crispy on the outer shell and soft and moist on the inside. And the green tea filling in the middle was the best I ever had. It had a very prominent green tea flavor without being overly bitter. I didn’t have to second guess what flavor it was. It tasted exactly like regular green tea. It also wasn’t as sweet as macarons from other places. I don’t know if these are organic or gluten-free but they tasted pretty natural. The colors aren’t vivid and bright like other macarons but this place also doesn’t use artificial food coloring so that’s a big plus. I also tried a chocolate macaraon sandwich cake(not sure if that’s the name). It’s two large pieces of macarons with chocolate and raspberry in the middle. The macaron texture on this dessert was also spot on and the chocolate filling was moist and bitter, which is exactly what I wanted. It must be dark chocolate because it didn’t taste as sweet. I was originally going to give this 4 stars but the macarons won me over. There aren’t that many flavors but it seems like they got the texture and flavor perfected. What’s interesting about this place is it lists all the ingredients in their cake on its website. That’s impressive. It also donates/gives away leftover goods to charity. That’s quite honorable.

I love businesses like Eat Cake because they listen to their consumers and they make it better! Not to sweet but still good enough for anyone to yearn for more!

Alright Eat Cake. You got me with your name. So simple, so catchy. I like it. I like it a lot. I was on the hunt for a special birthday cake and wanted to stray from the typical 85C and Porto’s choices. Scoured the intranet and stumbled upon Eat Cake. If you’re looking for a somewhat healthier alternative, then Eat Cake is your place. They use gluten-free rice flour, organic berries(when applicable), and cage-free eggs. Strawberry Chiffon Cake — Exactly what I envisioned a healthy chiffon cake to be. Super light, surprisingly moist, and with just a hint of strawberry. The cake was covered with their fresh cream frosting and decorated with the prettiest strawberries I’ve ever seen. I purposely did not tell any of my friends the cake was gluten-free just to see if there would be any sort of weird reaction to the cake. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. Most of them were in disbelief once I told them the cake was 100% gluten-free. You couldn’t taste the difference! Eat Cake’s sweets are all Asian-style so you’re not going to get that heavily buttered, sugared, whipped creamed stuff here. Everything is on the lighter side so you don’t feel so yucky after. Be mindful of that when making your dessert choice. To each their own!
