Kopan Ramen replaced a former sushi store in this newly minted 168 Market plaza at the corner of Colima and Fairway. I was shopping at Daiso for a new sun screen for my car’s dash so I ended up here for a quick lunch. My first experience is… what happened to the AC? This reviewer is on the heavy side and frankly this is Rowland Heights at summer time. Just yesterday it was 109 degrees F so you can see why I am concerned as to why the air conditioning is set so high. Sitting down I see they had a portable one running at the corner. *really!?? you don’t have central AC?* The nice waiter sat me furthest away from the AC close to the sunlit windows. Instantly I began broiling and sweating. I had to ask the nice waiter to sit me somewhere closer to the AC to alleviate from the sweat. Ok let’s get down to business. This is a ramen shop, they do only tonkotsu(which is 10+ hours of boiling thick pork bones in water to produce a thick and creamy soup stock). To order you would choose the size of your bowl of ramen, the type of meat(you get 3, chashu, fatty pork, chicken breast), and how spicy you want your soup stock(none, mild-same as none, spicy-drink the whole bowl you might feel some tingly, super spicy-didn’t try it). After all that you can add toppings like spinach, bamboo shoots, egg, bean sprouts.etc. All these things cost extra. I ordered regular ramen with chashu, at spicy level(which turned out to be mild). I didnt’ order any extras since all those things are 1.5 to 2 bucks each and the noodle is already 10 dollars(yes for meat and noodle and soup that is all). I did order 2 side dishes, 1 chashu fried rice, 1 seafood gyoza plate. I grade things out of 5 stars. Ramen **** The soup was extra creamy though I dunno this didn’t taste really like real bones instead tastes like premade concentrate soup base /bone powder. But overall I love the noodles, the soup, the chashu though not super soft was flavorful and good. The spiciness isn’t as spicy as I would like but judging this is for western customers I guess this is considered ok. However at $ 10 a bowl, I expect there to be more than just seaweed and chashu. At that price level there should be 2 – 3 more items in the bowl already. seafood gyoza *** this tasted like that japanese brand you’d buy at asian super markets 1 big bag for 10 bucks. this did not taste like it was made by the kitchen but rather they panfried some frozen dumplings and at $ 5 a plate this was expensive. Chashu fried rice * The fried rice had gone foul! This tasted like epic fail. After 1 bite I noticed the rice was extra dry with no flavor and the aftertaste tastes like food left outside in the heat. Fried rice should always be stir fried on the spot, never serve pre-cooked fried rice! This tells me the type of cook /restaurant this is. All in all this experience was quite meh. I was served food gone bad in a poorly air conditioned place and I was expected to pay more than average price. Lastly when I wanted to pay and leave I had to wait an extra 15 minutes because everyone is busy doing something else. I’m sorry either you have good food bad service or good service with mediocre food. If you have bits of both, I try to avoid you. Kopan, –1 star for price /poorly air conditioned environment(how can I eat if I’m not comfortable), –1.5 star for serving food that has already gone bad. –0.5 star for slow service at the end. I most likely will not visit this store again.

Broth is meh, no flavor… and all the typical fixings in a bowl of ramen is an extra charge.

The ramen here is good. I like the lightly creamy broth. I ordered the small, mild(but had extra Kopan sauce on the side), with fatty pork. With a Unilocal review, I received 2 free toppings! Yay! I got the shitake mushroom & the egg. The egg was delicious! Not overcooked, and not too yolky. I would come back again.

One of the best ramen places I’ve had! I enjoy Daikokuya, shinsengumi, etc. however this was unique because their broth was so rich I can drink the soup without eating the ramen noodles. This is currently my favorite place to get ramen. You can order chicken breast for meat instead too! Lunch combos include extra sides for cheap!

Don’t be deceived by the 4 stars. Whoever has been giving this place anything more than 3 stars probably only eats shit food on a daily basis and this is the one time he or she gets to go out to eat. The noodles are far from fresh. Don’t go in expecting hand pulled noodles that were made the day of. It’s like they decided to buy angel hair pasta from albertsons and throws it in with the broth. Speaking of broth, they tout that they boil their broth for 16 hours but it comes out looking like watered down dog piss. The broth is salted to fuck and it was as oily as some teenage kids face going through puberty. Luckily I got the free coke which was the only good part of the experience. The coke is necessary because it makes you forget about the shitty tasting Ramen. They charge 10 dollars for a regular sized bowl and you need to pay a dollar more for additional items that are supposed to be in a bowl of Ramen. That shit is fucking criminal. You’d at least expect fresh ingredients and good food with that price but all you get is shit some retard put together. Lastly, whoever puts together the playlist for the restaurant has the music sense of a deaf teenage kid who is still figuring out his sexuality. It was 2pm when I was eating but it sounded like it was 10pm at the town’s hottest gay club. Don’t blast shitty edm when people are trying to eat. Go to Honda Ya for Ramen that is beyond better than this shit hole.

kopan is decent at best. not a huge fan of the weird creamy broth(which is probably the best part about ramen in my opinion) Prefer places that have broth like Shinsengumi anyway, 1. sesame chicken, takoyaki, and gyoza are good sides. 2. fatty pork is much better than chashu. fatty pork is more tender but if you like tough meat with a layer of tough fat go ahead and get chashu i guess 3. lunch combos are good prices good service though.

Decided to give this ramen place a try because of the 4 stars on Unilocal and was incredibly disappointed. My mom and I ordered a small(12oz) chashu ramen and my dad ordered a large(16oz). The small only came w 2 chashu pieces and the large came w 3 pieces… it was the most disappointing looking bowl of ramen ever. The soup base was too creamy and salty. The noodles and chashu were subpar. You have to pay $ 1.00 extra for an egg. The restaurant was clean but they were blasting edm… I don’t understand why any restaurant would think playing loud edm during lunch hours would be good for the ambience of the restaurant :/… Overall would not come back again. There are better ramen places.

My third time here. Portion: small bowl was perfect for a 5’3″ &107lb gal Broth: savory and saturated. Meat: I ordered chasu(pork belly) and each bowl had about 3 – 4. But they were big! Side: Matcha green tea. It comes with a syrup on a side for you to adjust the sweetness. I must say broth is what really brings me back to Kopan!

Another friday night spot for the wife and I. Ever since we’ve moved to the West Covina area, we’ve been exploring the Rowland Heights area with their myriad of Asian restaurants. So many to try and that’s just off of Colima. On this particular night, it was Kopan Ramen. We both ended up with the Mild Chashu Ramen and a side of bean sprouts. Broth was rich and flavorful but the noodle didn’t have quite the chewiness that I like. Missing a tad of alkaline perhaps? We also got some tako sushi and a salmon skin roll. Both were pretty good! The restaurant is typical Japanese with their small dining area but this place has a ‘modern sports bar’ vibe to it also with hanging tvs on the wall and the loud 90s pop music. Good place for ramen and catch a game too. How often can you say that about a Japanese restaurant.

I have gone to many ramen joints. But nothing compares to this place. Most ramen places all taste pretty similar. But the soup they serve here has a very unique rich taste. The soup is very rich but yet not too salty. You can taste the fresh pork bone that was simmered for many hours if not days. I was quite impressed and plan to go back for more. The overall price feels higher than other places. A small bowl is $ 8 while the regular bowl is $ 10. I recommend ordering a combo for $ 11 where you can get a small bowl of ramen and then add a side dish such as fried rice, shrimp tempura, sesame chicken, edamame, croquette, yakisoba, fried octopus, fried squid legs, gyoza, and yakoyaki. It’s more worth it than ordering a regular bowl of ramen for $ 10. Service is decent and the ambience is different than most ramen restaurants. The place was a bit loud from the EDM that was blasting in the middle of lunch. Don’t get me wrong. I love listening to EDM. I’m just felt awkward eating ramen while listening to EDM. Tip: Check in and you get a free soda or iced green tea. Note: They do accept credit card. YippEEEE!!!

My boyfriend thinks it’s 4.25 stars *rolls eyes at the decimals, he’s annoying lol* I think it’s 4 stars as well. We both got regular bowls with chashu pork. The spicy level is not actually spicy so if you’re into spiciness, consider getting the super spicy. We got seasoned eggs which were cooked deliciously & one small side order of crunchy onion & garlic. People need to understand that broths are different in every ramen establishment. Kopan has a very delicious broth. It’s not like any place I’ve had before, but it’s flavorful, and I enjoyed it. I also liked that it wasn’t toooooo oily. Sides we also got were: — spicy tuna — sesame chicken *I highly recommend this Both were delicious, but if you want a little extra something to munch on, sesame chicken is a great option. Service was also great. Kevin took care of us & our food came out in a very timely manner. Our bill came out to be $ 35.70. A tad pricy, but it was our first time there. So we wanted to try some sides dishes. The food was good. So was the service. Our overall experience was promising enough to return since it’s just down the street from my boyfriend’s. Thank goodness for a good ramen place in the area. We’ll probably be back :-)

What’s with all the reviews and 4 and a half stars? I don’t get it. My party of 3 came in for lunch on a Wednesday. There was ample seating yet we were ignored until about 10 minutes later. After we got seated, we were again ignored for another 15 minutes before a waiter finally took our order. My bf’s combo bento came out quickly but we were still waiting on 2 orders of ramen. THIRTY minutes later, our ramen still has not come out. We asked the waiter and he said there was a long line of ramen bowls, and we were third in line. WHAT? Isn’t ramen the specialty here?! How does that even happen? It’s not like it was the end of the day too… Anyways after we finally got out ramen, everything was subpar. The soup was the best part but even that was a little too salty. The noodles were subpar and they only gave one piece of chashu. I got a side of takoyaki and I thought that was the best out of everything. Overall, a subpar restaurant seriously undeserving of its rating here on Unilocal.I read some other reviews and I found out the only reason it has so many reviews was because they were giving out free toppings in exchange for them… Now that’s just shady… Please do yourself a favor and drive to Foo Foo Tei for some real Japanese Ramen that’s quick, delicious, and well worth your money!

RAMENNN has become one of my favorites lately. And this place is pretty good… I’m not from the area but definitely worth coming to if you’re interested in eating some ramen. They also offer sushi which is totally a plus. They don’t only serve ramen, they have other dishes. Parking: ample free parking available in in the shopping plaza parking lot. Portions are descent at least for me I couldn’t finish my regular sized ramen. Ask for chili oil to give it a little kick. Their Chashu is a bit fattier than I’d prefer but nevertheless it’s still good. Side order of chashu was grilled, so it had a grilled flavor that I’m definitely a fan of.(reminds me of Filipino grilled pork flavor) Oh and make sure you check in with host for seating, especially when they’re not busy. They might assume you’re waiting for other people in your party.

This has to be one of the better soup bases and meat quality in the area when it comes to ramen! I have tried this place a few times now and the price is not too bad. The chashu pork and fatty pork meats are so tender! The meat seems to soak in all of the soup flavor and blends so well with it. I would say the meat quality is the strongest item for their ramen as I usually judge by quality of noodles, meat, and soup base(when it comes to ramen). The noodles are at a medium firmness and works well together with the meat and soup base for a final, delicious taste! I didn’t think it was too salty either, but that’s just me. I have also tried their sushi items and I can’t complain. Ramen is their stronger seller here though. Menu selection is not wide when it comes types of ramen but there are a lot of topping choices you can add into your bowl for extra charge.

A little hard to find, but look to the left of the Daiso Japan store, and you’ll find this little hidden gem. I’ve been to the Fullerton location, and was surprised to see one closer to home. I was craving it for some reason on my drive home after work. The weather is a bit cold and I can feel the moisture in the air, it’s going to rain. And you what that means, a warm broth-ie meal! I ordered the large size with the chashu with garlic/onions, bean sprouts, and soft boiled egg. And, I didn’t forget to check in for my free soda! The garlic/onions made it so flavorful, but not sure if it got salty adding it or if it was a salty broth from the beginning. Otherwise, my meal was fantastic! Services was great. They checked in on me regularly. Overall, great experience and a great location. I’ll definitely come back again!

We came here for dinner since we were in the mood for ramen and wanted to try something new. This place is located in the strip mall on the corner of Colima/fairway right next to Daiso. There’s plenty of parking in the strip mall although you might have to walk abit. There was no wait time when we came so we got seated immediately. Note you get 1 free soda for Unilocal check-in! The ramen menu works like this. You choice your size, small 12oz or large 16oz, choice of spice level, then you pick your meat: chashu, fatty pork, chicken breast or veggie, and finally your choice of add-on sides: More meats, random toppings: bamboo, egg, crunchy onions, garlic, corn, bean sprout, spinach or extra noodles. If you’re super hungry you can also add on other side items like gyoza, rice, sesame chicken, etc. The famous soup is touted as being cooked for 16 hours so its SUPER rich, thick and fatty. You can literally see the layer of fat solidifying as your soup cools. Overall i thought the flavor of the soup itself was just OK. It’s just salty and rich without much other flavor profiles. The noodles were pretty standard and the extra soft boiled egg was cooked very under as the yoke is still completely liquid instead of being partially cooked like other soft boiled eggs. It would have been great if they just gave you the standard toppings instead if charging extra, ie. bamboo shoots, bean sprouts. Overall 3.5÷5, value 3⁄5. The service was good but we just weren’t completely satisfied with the ramen itself. There’s so many ramen places in the SGV area that we probably won’t be coming back to this one.

How to order: Ramen bowl sizes come in a small or large. You can then choose the spiciness level(mild was good enough for me). After that, you choose the protein. The choices are: chasu, fatty pork, and chicken. After that, you have the option to add toppings for an additional price(around 5 cents to a dollar). I like the idea of being able to customize my bowl of ramen, since I am very particular with what I like. My favorite toppings are the soft boiled egg and grated garlic. I really liked the broth. It was thick and flavorful and paired perfectly with the garlic. The mild option had the right amount of spice. There are also sushi choices that are fairly priced, in my opinion. Check in for free soda. Write a review for two free toppings. They actually keep track of the usernames.

Got tired of eating at Aijisen all the time so I decided to venture out and try somewhere else in the area. Went on Unilocal and discovered this location. I came here for lunch and ordered the lunch special which included a bowl of ramen(choice of 3 meats) and your choice of(9) sides for $ 12. In contrast to most other ramen restaurants, Kopan Ramen only offered one broth for all their ramen orders with variations of meat and spice level with the option to add items with an additional charge, so it made it easy for me to order. I decided to order fried squid legs with a large bowl of chashu ramen. The consistency of the broth was perfect in my opinion. My only complaint is that I would have still been hungry if it weren’t for the side order of fried squid legs. Service was good but I came in at an atypical lunch time so I would have to come back to check for consistency. Overall, an excellent, tasty bowl of ramen, emphasizing on quality over quantity in terms of options and portions. I think I discovered a new local favorite. Tip: If you come here with a healthy appetite, I highly suggest ordering an appetizer or extra toppings/noodles.

YUM. This is one of my fave local spots around Rowland Heights when I’m craving some ramen. The thing I like about this Kopan Ramen is that they serve sushi too! Ouuuu. The ramen portion here is great, the base is good, but could be better. I suppose they make it up with decent portions of pork belly and sides when you order them. I do enjoy the mushrooms and the soft boiled egg. The lunch combos are definitely a plus, and the Unilocal check in is worth it if you’re a regular. LOL. The sushi is fresh, and the fish is huge in comparison to the rice. It’s kinda nice to see that, even though the spot doesn’t specialize in sushi. i think it’s what makes them stick out from the other Kopan Ramen spots. For some reason, the last time I went, I felt a bit overwhelmed with the Ramen and the sushi so I think I may have went overboard with the food, but all in all, I’d still come back so there’s no stopping me from having my ramen fix when I’m in the area and it’s rainy and sad and gloomy or when I’m just having a ramen craving at 3 in the afternoon.

Decent ramen. If you like the creamy and thick broth… then you’ll like their ramen. Try the combination and add a Takoyaki, chicken kariaage, or other items. The restaurant can get busy so be patient. Sit at the sushi bar too… there’s less of a wait there. Small sushi menu as well. Check in to Unilocal or FB for a free drink.
