I wish I could tell you about all the amazing food I even at Monk’s Cellar in the 3 times I’ve been there but the Monk Burger with the duck fat fries are so good they haunt my dreams and I can’t bring myself to get anything else. To make this place any better, they serve a beer that is my favorite beer of all time. However, I’m kinda lame and can’t remember the name of the beer. The ambiance of the restaurant is really cool. If I had a criticism for the place, it would be how loud it gets in there. I would recommend sitting outside so it’s not so loud. There might be quieter places inside, however, than the places I have been seated.

Meh. Disappointing on several fronts. Food fairly tasty but nothing so exciting and portions quite small for the price. Fries were tasty but not very enjoyable because bordering on cold when they arrived and no ketchup. We had IPA beer it was good but again nothing exciting. was not full flavored to our taste. Service fairly good, friendly and efficient except my big pet peeve-food didn’t come all at same time. Had to wait on salad and kids meal of all things. Patio seating was ok, pleasant view of downtown street but table for 4 is two tiny round tables pushed together which is not very comfortable. I guess for Roseville this is rated high because compared to bj’s and other chains.

The mustard has gotten worse, but the beer is somewhat better. I really wish they could dial it in for a good visit every time. Still average. Please try for greatness.

Duck Fat Fries are the best! Delicious burger with some awesome fries. I made sure to try the 7 beer tasting and wow were they delicious. I wrote a pretty big review at
This place had everything from awesome service to incredible food. Did I mention the beer was awesome too? I’m definitely looking forward to returning!

On a Sunday evening, with very little people strumming about, my cousin, her husband, and I dined in. Monk’s Cellar first caught my eye on a Friday when I was hanging out at Ninja Sushi and saw that it was right next door. Now, I never need a real excuse to go out and try something new, and since it was the weekend of my birthday, I felt this would’ve been a good enough reason to personally experience this culinary and«spirited» cultured treat. Basically, I wasn’t disappointed. One definitely embraces the old world charm of the cellar décor, which in it’s own way added me feeling as though I’ve gone away farther than the confines of Roseville for a beer. Once inside, and aided by our attentive server, we took it all in as we downed our brews and munched on the delectable delights of the well managed menu. What I liked about hanging out there was the place was pretty muted overall, which isn’t a bad thing. Call me «acting my age,» but personally, I like a quiet experience, especially on an extended Memorial Day weekend when in downtown Roseville there wasn’t a lot of people to cramp around me. I’m sure on other weekends, whether it’s on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, there will be people milling about drinking their mead and having a good time. Yeah, I can be the grumpy old man sometimes. Still, I can dig an establishment with a cool reputation that provides a patrons such as myself with a good first impression. The Monk’s Cellar has my back in that regard. Overall, it was a nice way to spend a night with good company; I intend on returning again for the«famed» trivia for sign up on Wednesdays, and have a few beers while I’m at it.

Another update: portion sizes have decreased. I hate feeling hungry after eating a sandwhich fries and a beer. Sandwich bread was super crusty, in a bad way. The beers are still good but I would love to see some rotation in the lineup.

3.5 stars. Great beer per the hubby. Amazing strawberry shortcake. Great service, but had to send the burger back a couple of times for them to get it right. The wait staff was super nice about it. Salad was tasty. Scotch eggs were good but better at streets of London. Not a ton of flavor to the food overall, besides the strawberry shortcake and the duck fat fries. They were out of some of the menu items, but wait staff was great at making recommendations. Lovely place. Lovely patio. Easy parking even midday on the street. We’ll be back. Hoping it’s better.

Yay refreshing radlers! I really like this place. The tavern is in this old brick building with cool iron chandeliers. The food was pretty good, and my husband liked his beer. The prices were around $ 10 for food. There aren’t many cool places in Roseville, so I’m glad something pretty unique popped up. I’d like to go back for happy hour sometime.

I have been to the Monks Cellar plenty of times to give you a wholesome review. This place is very unique to me – I think that needs to be celebrated especially in a chain polluted town like Roseville. I have enjoyed many happy hours/meals here with just my boyfriend… and huge groups. Every time we have come here, we have not been disappointed. My favorite? Duck Fat Fries… because honestly you haven’t lived until you have tried that buttery stick of happiness. Beware – it will make you frown upon any other fry you try after. The steamed clams are also very good for the price, especially because they do half mussels and duck fat fries, whoever thought of that should get a high five. For entrees I love the Reuben. I am trying the Fish & Chips next. The beers are great… and compliment the food so well. I also enjoy the cocktail menu because the drinks are unique – and strong.

I came here for happy hour /dinner and then stayed for a Plant Nite event. I try very hard to eat healthy and it was hard to do that here — so many yummy UN-healthy options! Duck Fat Fries, Mini Pretzel Bites, Pulled Pork Sliders — seriously people… the menu made me drool. I opted for a healthier option — they have a spinach salad as a special and it was DELISH! I added some chicken to make it a little more substantial which turned out to be a mistake because the salad was frickin’ huge on its own — nothing additional needed! Seriously amazing food. My friends got mussels, aforementioned Duck Fat Fries(I had a single fry and it was amazing), burgers… everyone was happy with their food. The service was great too! Overall, a really great experience — I look forward to coming back to try their beer and more of those damned Duck Fat Fries.

Service was great, all of our servers were super friendly and helpful. Even though it got very busy, they still took great care of us. The food was delicious, beer/wine/cider choices were delicious. We were there to listen to our friends, Celtic Gray play. First visit and we were impressed. Too bad there wasn’t a better place for the band to set up. Super hard to hear the words. As a restaurant and place to hang out, very nice. As a location to listen to live groups or bands, not so good yet.

Located on Vernon st. Next to ninja sushi and a Mexican restaurant. It was hard to find in the rain and night especially when there was no parking available on a Saturday night in downtown Roseville. I did eventually find it. The wait inside was 45 minutes long but there was outdoor patio seating. It was raining, they had gas Tower warmers. We ordered the fish and chips, chicken sandwich. The batter on the fish was crunchy, good seasoning. Fish itself was firm and just cooked right. Some places overcook fish and chips where when you bite it it basically snaps like a cracker. The infamous duck fat fries — it was good, the difference between normal fries and these duck fat fries was a slight taste difference and the saturation of oil in these fries, every now again fat is good they get me wrong it was not greasy just the chip held some of the duck fat. The chicken sandwich was good. The sour dough bread was toasted and very tasty, chicken was not overcooked as well. It was a very good first imoression. Next time I will taste and compare their scotch egg to streets and Churchill arms.

I was blown away by Monk’s Cellar. They did a great job decorating the place. It has a clean, simple interior, that is very comfortable. The beer selection is great, and the food was tasty. I think the staff was the best part of my experience. They were super friendly and easy to talk to. They took the time to explain the beers and food. They didn’t seem rushed or impatient at all. I was impressed with their great customer service.

Located in old town Roseville, The Monk’s Cellar looks to be part of new businesses moving in to revitalize this section of town. It’s quaint and nice, not like the hustle bustle of the Galleria shopping center with every chain restaurant you might want. Looks like they brew their own beer here too, seeing the large tanks in display behind the glass. There’s a nice outdoor dining area in front. The interior oozes in lavish woods and is quite deep to the rear. I didn’t have my mind made up on what to have, but looking over the menu options, what sounded different, other than the usual burger and frites was the appetizer called, Moules Frites($ 10.00). It’s a ½ pound of Moules(Mussels) steamed and swimming in a white wine, garlic and shallots broth, along with Frites(Duck Fat Fries)! That sounded divine! Something light and not a heavy sausage, gravy and potatoes meal. If you wanted that, they can help you out here with just that! Check out the menu online with prices. I was curious to see what the duck fat fries were like … me and duck you know! Even though I’m in a brewery and there’s a lot of choices of Euro beers like back in Belgium, I drank a little too much last night, so I stuck with water. As I waited, I can see there’s quite a crowd in here for weekend brunch. All the outdoor tables were taken. The place has a young chic trendy sort of feel to it, with all younger good looking servers sporting stylish haircuts. A food runner, brings me my meal. I’m surprised by the amount of food! I get 2 large bowls, one for the fries mounded high and the other for my mussels and a empty bowl for shells. That’s a lot of food for just $ 10 bucks! The aromas wafting towards me are very strong and tell me of balanced ingredients of garlic and wine. The mussels are topped with a large pull of thick crust French bread, just like I’ve had back in Europe. I use the bread to sop up the wonderful aromatic broth. The mussels are cooked perfect, releasing from the shell easily with my fork as I lower each piece into the broth before lifting into my mouth. Oh Yes! This is so nice and well, French tasting! The duck fat fries are fried on the dark side. As I slip one of those morsels into my mouth, I’m greeted with a different fried potato experience. The fry is not as crisp as regular fries, but not soggy at all. The inside is creamy smooth with a slight duck fat flavor. The seasoning is a little on the salty side. I do like these a lot. Don’t expect an overt ducky flavor, just in the background. I can barely finish these two bowls of tastiness … but I do! This is the best $ 10 bucks I’ve spent eating lately! If this was any indication of the quality and creativeness of the rest of the menu, I can’t wait to come back! Check out the menu online at the website and give the place a try!

I’ve come here a couple of times so I thought it was time to do a rating. Hands down, this is one of my favorite places to go. I recently had the fish and chips with the belgium blanch bier. What a great a great pairing! The environment has a kind of German tavern vibe to it. It kinda reminds me of my time I visited Germany. I don’t know what else to really say other than I highly recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for good food, beer with a somewhat intimate environment. You won’t be disappointed!

What a gem! I’m sure to locals this is the place to go, but as an out-of-towner, I rarely make my way to Roseville when I’m in the area. If I go out, I generally find my way to Sacramento, but having now found The Monk’s Cellar, I will return to Roseville! This place was hoppin’ on a Friday night. My friend and I had to wait maybe 10 minutes for a table, but were happy to do so 1. it was raining cats and dogs and 2. the reviews for this place were very good. The women at the host stand were super friendly and got us seated as soon as possible. Our server was a nice older women who took care of us quickly and efficiently. They had a great selection of beers made in-house, in addition to some fancy Belgian imports. My beer was warm and nutty, like a cozy fire on a rainy night. My friend got the burger and fries and loved them. I ordered the mussels, which had a strong fishy taste(fine by me!), but the wine and butter sauce was a bit under seasoned for me. I should have ordered my first instinct to get the mustard and dill. The duck fat fries, though, really are INCREDIBLE — rich, delicious, and, I’m sure, terrible for you, but so worth every bite.

Went here on a recommendation and was not disappointed. Their beer was surprisingly good. I had the burger and it was one of the juiciest I’ve ever had. I will say that I am not a fan of the duck fat fries. Others love them but I’m not one of them. The location isn’t great but they are trying to be a part of revitalizing Old Roseville. The atmosphere is great and they did a great job decorating the place. I felt very comfortable there and makes a good spot for a date or a group get together. Service was a bit slow

Do I really need to say more than, «duck fat fries»? Fracking awesome. Beers aren’t too shabby either. Give this place a try. Only improvement might be the addition of some sound deadening, lots of hard flat surfaces can make this place get loud quick.

This is an awesome place! The beer here all seems to be Belgian inspired which is not my fav, but if you like that style of beer, this place is for you! The place looks very nice and I like how you can walk around and see some of the beer making process. They have a lot of windows that give you a glimpse of how their beer is made! We ordered the duck fries and the pretzel bites. Both were pretty amazing! I would highly recommend both! This was an awesome place to go and try some beer and grab a snack. I would go back.
