Wharf Bar & Grill

The Wharf Bar & Grill has the good fortune of phenomenal views of Jamaica Bay clear across to Manhattan. Sunsets are spectacular! This bar restaurant is right on the bay and has an outdoor deck complete with landing for recreational boats. It has a familiar feel to it; a hangout patronized primarily by locals with décor that hasn’t changed much over the years. Inside it’s roomy with spacious windows and outside there are plenty of tables by the water. While the service isn’t snappy, portions are respectable and they serve more than ordinary bar food. I ordered one of the house specials: broiled Long Island flounder with a side of rice and broccoli. They didn’t skimp. There’s no desert on the menu, but stay after for a drink and mix in with friendly company.

All the domestic and most of the popular foreign beers are on tap. Friendly service! Prices are averagely ok. The view is really the key! The view of the bay has no price on it.

Allot of good times at this bar. I was introduced to it by a few friends that have been going here for years and it definitely lived up to the hype. Its in a very hidden location and a bit of a treasure hunt for those that are not locals but the outside view and service makes up for it.

The Wharf is a hidden gem in Rockaway Park. I have gone to The Wharf once for breakfast and then supper. Both times my party and I were satisfied with the food, service, prices and view… what else could you want! It is not a high class place which is great. How many places with this view have stayed so down to earth… not many.

Whenever I am in the mood for really bad service and unpredictable bar food (like a burger) this is my go to place. Who serves an expensive lobster roll on two pieces of wonder white bread another dining wonder? I kid you not.
Customers here mostly Irish never fail to disappoint while they drunk and provide a free live show. If you are lucky some of the inbred from Breezy Point will be there with a few hipsters sprinkled in who think they are down with the Rockaway trendy freak show.
If it’s really a special night mostly on the weekends the coke heads will be at the bar being as loud and annoying as can be and unless you are a good Christian which I am not you will want to throw them in the water.
It’s a great first date place to impress her with a classy joint. I don’t go often anymore when out.

Hidden behind the gas station, there is local treasure called Wharf Bar & Grill.
Be warned, service here is as slow as turtle on lazy sunny day, and interior part just as shabby as my uncle’s garage, but exterior deck sits right on the water, beautifully fixed and nice.
This is what we came here for. Sitting on open air terrace, with breeze touching your face, enjoying amazing view of bridges, Brooklyn and New York skyline — you can just relax and take it easy. We are not in a hurry. Well, as long as they bring us drinks, of course!
Fresh clams, HUGE lobster roll (we had to split it in half, and fish tacos (whey more like wraps, actually, and pretty convenient to eat). It was a lot of food. Oh, and sweet potato fries won the day — sooo good!
I loved sitting there and watching boats go by, sun getting lower on a horizon, and just enjoying great company.

Beautiful location overlooking the bay and Brooklyn/​Manhattan skyline.
Getting a table can be tricky, be aggressive and just grab one.
The food is good. Big fan of the peel and eat «bar shrimp», excellent cocktail sauce. Coconut shrimp is yummy and comes with fries. Husband enjoys the fish tacos, fresh tasting claw on fried fish. Excellent fries.
Once you get a waitress service is good.
Frozen drinks are great and a nice size.

I’ve been coming here for several years. It’s a great place to sit, eat, drink on the water and its s great view.
The food is good bar food.
They Only take Cash but what I am not happy about is that the Service is really Bad!
There are a lot of waitresses and you need to ask several times just to get a drink order.
They have an advantage because their location is prime.
I will still be back but I will always be frustrated at the poor service.

Haven’t been here in about 3 years and now I remember why. The service is god awful! We had the rudest waitress. When I told her my soda didn’t taste right and I didn’t want it, she actually snatched it away and brought me back a glass of water with an attitude and basically slammed it down in front of me. She then seemed to serve other customers ignoring our table. I gave them 2 stars because my food (shrimp salad sandwich) was ok. But the chicken sandwich my boyfriend ordered was rubbery and had to be sent back.
All in all this was a disappointment.

Needs a bit of interior updating. Salad was ok. Love that it’s by the water.
The daiquiri was not the best. Tasted like a pre made store brought concoction.

Don’t get the «wharf platter» appetizer that says «special chicken» or whatever. It’s a fucking chicken tender you buy at Costco, hell that whole plate looks like it was bought from Costco and just heated up.
Waitress was a stupid cunt who was a rude bitch to us the whole time.
I never leave reviews unless the place is an absolute shithole, and what a shithole this place was. View is cool, but guess where else has a great view and great service AND food? Bungalow Bar.
If you’re thinking about coming here, expect to be treated like absolute shit and be rushed to order and have your waitress take nearly 30 minutes to bring out your check because she can give two shits about you.

I’m certain management/​ownership doesn’t read these reviews. Is it possible to give it less than one star?!? The worst service, the warmest clams on the half shell and shrimp cocktail I have ever had the displeasure of eating. Not only that, but the waitress expected us to eat like cavemen, no napkins or silverware. Disgusting doesn’t even begin to cover it.
The worst waitress ever, clueless and constantly complained about how many customers she had to service, this is a TUESDAY in the Rockaways, not that many people here at all. Just slow service on top of just plain slow people. Go elsewhere.

I grew up in rockaway and recently moved back. So I was excited to bring my daughter to one of my old favorite hang outs. The place looks great… with that said, thats were it ends. Food waa ok… nothing to write home about. I waited on forks after my food was served. My daughter spilt her coke and she never got a new one. When we done eating I took my daughter down to the dock to see a boat… i came to my table cleared and new people sitting there! I had food I wanted wrapped. Needless to say I was annoyed. .I just paid my check and left.

Been coming here since I’m little. The food is nothing special, but it’s not bad. The back outdoor patio is what makes this place a rockaway staple. You can often see people pulling in on their boats and walking right in. It’s beautiful at sunset on a warm summer night.

The Wharf is beautifully located however the SERVICE IS GOD AWFUL!!! We arrived at 6pm and it took 15 to 20 minutes before we even could order a drink! MY GOD DO THEY REALIZE THAT THE MORE WE DRINK THE HIGHER THE BILL!!! AND THE BIGGER THE TIP. But NO they are oblivious to things around them! And who suffers their customers!
The food is subpar especially when half the menu is unavailable and the rest is fried! It is the Monday after the Fourth of July and they couldn’t find a fish source for clams, mussels, or shrimp! You would think a resturant who depends on seafood for their menu would have a seafood source to service there customers!
This resturant doesn’t give a damn about there customers nor there service, they think that the views will keep customers coming back again and again! I’m sorry to say I have given them more than a few opportunities to improve but instead I always leave me unsatisfied and pissed off.
They need to revamp the staff, the food and the overall service!
The drinks are watered down and disappointing! Not to mention the shots were served in a plastic tiny NyQuil cup! I’m sorry I’m an adult — I deserve a glass!
We had a child with us– and we ordered his burger when we first ordered drinks but yet it didn’t come out till our whole meal was finally delivered! The child was crying and upset! How dare they treat people like this!
I am a rockaway resident and I will tell everyone not to go here! It was horrible!
DONT GO HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE TRASH! There are too many options in Rockaway now so goodbye to the wharf! You’ll not get my money any more!

The Wharf is not fancy, but it is good pub grub, cold beers, and the best view on the NY coastline. I was there today with my mother and my aunt. It is the day before the 4^th of July, it was packed, and we got great service (as always) from the waitstaff (shout-​out to JoJo, who is AWESOME) and a tan, too! The prices are low (seriously — $ 10 for half a rack of ribs that my mom took home for lunch tomorrow because they were so plentiful) and the fries are crispy and delicious. Bring cash, as they do not take credit cards. But there is an ATM on premises if you need it. Dress casual, and have a blast! I am so glad the Wharf survived both Sandy and the hipsterfication of the Wawa’s.

This place has been around for years, tucked behind a gas station… My friend and I went here for lunch last week. We couldn’t sit outside, because they were painting the outside deck. So we sat inside. no matter how you look at this place, it’s a bar. during the summer, an awesome one! A lunch place, not so much. My friend had the meatloaf lunch special, I had shrimp salad. We both agreed, we had better. Service was good. As a summer outside bar. thumbs up, as a place to eat, not the best.

The only things this place has going for it is the view and live music. The employees all stared at my friend when she asked for a table in the shade. When we finally sat down our waitress had to move our table to the side to make room for another table, but we never saw this ‘other table.’
I was glad they had corona light as its hard to find in the city. And it was just $ 4.50. However the food was very below average. I got the spinach salad with bacon, egg, tomatoes and onions. It had cucumbers on it and I don’t like cucumbers. But this wasn’t on the menu. My friend ordered the Cesar salad. It came with romaine lettuce and soft croutons. No cheese. When she asked for a side of cheese, the waitress asked, «What kind of cheese? Sliced up American?» Finally she got the point and brought Parmesan cheese.
The French fries were also soggy, not crisp. And our table ended up being in the sun when the sun set, so we were blinded.
If you’re wanting good food and good service, don’t go here! But enjoying a beer over the view may be worth it…

Well this place is probably great when it is warm
Outside to sit with a beer and look over the ocean but inside it is kind of a trashy dive.
Let’s start with its cash only, so make sure you have some cash.
It is definitely off the main road, past a gas station. There is parking, so you can drive right up and park.
The service was okay, our waitress was nice, brought over a coloring book for my boyfriend’s niece and had a high hair for her. But when it came time to reorder drinks, she was MIA. She did come check on us every so often but it just wasn’t enough and she was easily accessible.
We ordered the chicken quesadilla, French dip sandwich, sweet potato fries and calamari.
The calamari was NOT good at all, it was actually kind of icky. The quesadilla was okay, very average. The French dip was really delicious, simple but delicious and the fries were fries. Our waitress did forget them but we eventually were able to remind her.
I had a Stella cider and my boyfriend had a Amstel light and a cider also.
The whole meal came out to be 54, which was appropriate considering. It may even be a little overpriced but the view needs to be considered.
I will probably not come back, unless it is to visit his niece again and I think I’ll just have a couple drinks instead.
