This place is amazing. The only reason it has 4 stars is because of the waiting. It has good food, good beer, and it has an amazing atmosphere.

I have been going to Turtle Mountain since they were in their old location. The food has always been good & the beer selection is great. My new husband & I are there probably twice a week & are members of the Mug Club. It’s great! We earn points toward food & filling our growlers. Lately things have changed at Turtle… if you order anything on a hoagie roll, the rolls are always, always stale like no one is taking care to ensure they’re wrapped up? And there have only been 2 – 3 additions to the menu in how many years? I vote for a menu reboot, Turtle! As I said, we love you & we come there often, but we need some variety. Pizza, burgers & hoagies are great… but nothing has changed. What about a burger of the week? A customer-designed pizza? Maybe a menu contest – 5 customers design their perfect pizza, people vote & the winner gets a guest spot on the menu for the month? Just a few ideas.

This is the go-to spot for my dad and I. We have always had great beer, food AND service here. It’s a really killer combo which translates into the place being super busy during peak hours(mostly during supper time). If you’re coming here for dinner, I highly suggest you make a reservation and I also suggest that you sit in the auxiliary room.(The main room can get super noisy during their busier hours). Like I’ve said in every other brewery review: get a flight! Get A FLIGHT! They have so many different styles of beers on tap that it’s hard to pick one. I have some personal faves(Hop Shell and Red Rye) but I haven’t had a bad beer here, like, ever. As for food, the best thing that goes with a beer is a pizza, and they make theirs in a glorious wood oven that gives the pizza that perfect crispness. They have other food(typical bar fare: nachos, wings, burgers, fries) but really, when the pizza is this good, you really don’t need any other options. :) My dad comes here often enough to know the servers by name(and they know his haha). It says something to me when my dad and I have been coming here for years and I still see the same waitstaff. The owners/managers must be doing something right. Kudos to the folks at TMBC for a killer combo of food, beer, and enjoyment!

What a fantastic local find. The only issue with Turtle Mountain that the one location is a 45 minute drive from my house. Maybe that’s a good thing so I don’t explode on pizza and beer… Lots of parking, comfortable sports bar atmosphere, and friendly service make this an A+ place. The beer brewed on site is really awesome and offers something for everyone. From a light cream ale to a 100 bitter IPA everyone will find something to fall in love with. Not sure what you like, no problem, order the 6 sampler flight and find your favorite. Mine was the Winter Ale… so delicious. Food is your standard bar fare, but with some fun new twists. My husband had a buffalo pizza, man junk food heaven for sure. I enjoyed the 5 cheese macaroni, or at least tried. The portions are enormous so you’ll have plenty for another meal. I highly recommend the house made tortilla chips, thick, and crunchy and perfect for dipping into salsa, guac, or queso. This is comfort food at it’s best and served in an atmosphere that feels familiar and homey even if it’s your first time there. Super clean restrooms and public areas show the pride the employees have in this fun brew pub. Get there!

Turtle Mountain has great food! The Mac and Cheese is absolutely amazing. They have a great selection of delicious pizzas, which you can also get as a calzone. I’ve never been disappointed with the food at turtle mountain. The beer at turtle mountain, however, is another story. I’ve tried many of the beers at Turtle Mountain, and am unfortunately always disappointed. At best, the taste of the beer is just«off» and at worst you can taste a strong metallic flavor from the brewing process.

I can see how this place is loved by many, on the other hand I can see how this place is a complete miss for others, and for me, I’m right in the middle. I don’t hate this place, but I definitely don’t love it either. It’s a brewery, however their beers are not the best(not the worst either). Food is pricy, and you don’t even get good quality for the high price, it’s nothing extraordinary, just regular pub food. Most of the menu is pizza, some entrees and sandwiches and similar items to choose from too. For me, I wish I could love it, I really really want to, I just can’t. Staff is usually kind of rude, beers just always taste a little… funky. I often always forget about turtle mountain when I’m thinking of a night out, and when its being suggested is kind of like«ok sure». I would suggest to carpool if possible, parking is horrible. Try the beers before committing to a growler, or even a pint. If you get wings or tenders I highly suggest trying the«hurt me» sauce, it’s very flavorful and not just the typical buffalo flavor. You may want an extra cup of ranch or blue cheese cuz it’s hot

Hit or miss. The beer has certainly gotten better, but the menu has been the exact same for several years. Need some creative additions. The one food item that is excellent is the Calamari.

If you like them hoppy, the Hopshell will cover the craving. My ears feel a little heavy after spicy quesadillas and IPA.

The food never disappoints! Everything always taste fresh and cooked to order. The pizza is top notch, the Mac and cheese is delicious and the nachos are some of the best I’ve had. Their homebrew beer can be hit or miss, but for the most part its good. Pricing for the most part is reasonable, but it can get pricey if you get a beer or 2, an appetizer and an entrée. The biggest downside is the parking. But if you find a spot, its worth it. Great food. Definitely recommend.

A little expensive, but very good. The homemade meatballs in the meatball sub were every bit as good as the waiter promised and the pesto chicken pizza was the best in the city.

I went to Turtle Mountain with my Dad for dinner on a Wednesday night around 6:00pm. I was as little weary because the last time I tried to have dinner at Turtle Mountain the wait was about a hour a half — granted this was on a weekend for dinner. I was really excited because I have heard great things about TM! We arrived and were seated right away. Our waiter was so nice and answered all our 398 questions about their beer and menu items. My Dad ordered a white IPA and he liked it. I thought it was pretty good! For dinner, I ordered the adult chicken fingers with hot sauce, steak fries and a side of ranch. My Dad ordered the Hatch burger. I enjoyed my dinner, the chicken fingers were really good and had the perfect amount of batter. My Dad really liked the Hatch burger, I tried it and thought it was delicious. I was so full and didn’t finish my plate– I ended up taking some home for my Mom to try. My Dad finished his burger — he must’ve been hungry because it was half a pound. When we got the receipt we were surprised to find that we were charged extra for the ranch. Also, my diet coke was almost $ 5– I thought that was a little much for just soft drink. On the way out, there was a wait so we must’ve gotten there right in time. Other than that, great service and great food.

I don’t get it. I’ve been here quite a few times, tried lots of different things and for me, it’s still just ok. I mean, they have some decent pizza, they have a good beer selection but the menu is basically pizza, calzones and burgers/sandwiches. it’s a little on the pricey end and the food is just as good as I’ve had elsewhere, nothing too different or special. Maybe if you have an appreciation for the beer selection, this place is better than others but I don’t know. It seems like there’s always a wait, even with empty tables around. Service takes a while, it always seems rushed or bothered and you can go a while without a refill or seeing your server for anything else you need. Oh, and if you go on a busy night, good luck trying to find parking.

Okay so let’s make this clear that my review is based on «JUSTTHEBEER.» So I am a beer enthusiast from Los Angeles California and I have gone to several bars, pubs, microbrew festivals, so on and so forth looking for the perfect beer. I am not an alcoholic but I do enjoy a brew on several different occasions so I am no rookie to beers of different flavors and styles. I love a good stout and enjoy a couple lagers with my friends, IPA’s I usually accompany with a good meal or just time to myself so beer is something I really try exploring so believe me when I say that the beer I had here was nothing to rave about. I arrived at the location that seemed kind of hidden along the main street but my brother in-law had been there before and knew his way. He warned me that this place would let me down but it was Fourth of July and I just wanted to stop for a taste of a good New Mexican brew. Well he told us about his past experience and how the beer was really warm and when he mentioned it the bartender asked if he had ever been to a brewery before. No offense but he is a veteran, in his 30’s, Hispanic, and pretty big so he is no sissy or foodie who just talk to talk. He is a man who loves red ales and breweries and was tested but he kept calm and let it go. I gave the location a second chance by ordering their beer flight so they should be different temperatures and flavors. So I received my liquid lunch on a really cool looking wooden turtle platter New Mexican style. This is actually what I had in mind but then my dream of a unique experience turned into a nightmare. I started with the lagers and worked my way to the stouts. All my beers where really warm like the temperature of a beer you left in the car after running errands and you just couldn’t wait. I tried the first then the second and they just kept getting warmer. I took a gulp of each and had my wife, brother in-law, and cousin in-law try them and we were all tripping out how bad they tasted and how warm they were. They really need to lower their temperature gauges to accent the ingredients in their beer because they do not stand on their own. I felt like the beers had a hint of metallic taste to them like the hose hadn’t been cleaned properly. I personally would never come again or recommend it to anyone I know and my extended family felt the same. I wish I would have tried the food that looked amazing but I was only thirsty and I left thirsty.

Finally made it out to Rio Rancho to try TMBC this past weekend. Good beer, good food, friendly staff. I was happy they had two patios, one of which allowed pets so we could bring our dog while we enjoyed a couple pizzas, the housemate pretzel with cheese sauce, and a couple cold ones. My only gripe is that you have to place your food and beer order inside at the bar – no real service on the patio — except they still brought the food out to us and had a small bar on the patio with a limited beer selection – so in the end, it still worked. Just awkward to get staff’s attention at the bar to order, they kept my credit card, and then I had to return to bar to cash out.

Have only been able to try a growler from this place so far but I will say that I was quite impressed with the quality and strength of their beer. I took home a growler of their IPA and was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and quick to attend to me even though their pub was quite packed. They did offer several other interesting beers that I will attempt to try in the future. One of the flavors that drew my attention most was their coffee beer that they partnered with Bella coffee house to brew. It’s always cool to see locals supporting other locals. Can’t really speak to the quality of their food right now but I do hope to try it in the near future.

*this review was originally drafted in late 2011 after many weekly visits and never published. I have since visited TMBC in summer 2014 and my opinion still stands as-is, TMBC is one of the best* Low-key but great brew and great food. Best brewery in Rio Rancho and maybe the best vittles, great atmosphere and probably good to watch sports at. Try grandmas brown or the X-1 ipa for a kick. Wide range of handmade beers, something for everyone. As one of the first generation of bespoke breweries in the ABQ area TMBC has grown and still remains a solid choice for an afternoon of full-taste fun. A long bar inside and plenty of large group seating make this a great place to have some friends together, family, or just yourself enjoying a pint on the patio. Even with all the newer breweries popping up, there isn’t a better place to stop in RR(if you’re already up here…).

After a week of diligent calorie counting and working out, I decided to reward myself with a burger. Husband and I went to Unilocal to see what was in the area, and found Turtle Mountain had some good reviews. A place like this can be expected to deliver a certain kind of food, food I call«bar food». Pizza, burgers, yummy fried stuff, over-dressed salads, nachos — and since it is a brewery a selection of craft beer. Food not unlike the stuff you find at most chain restaurants — comforting with lots of salt and fat because those two things could make a deep fried baby diaper taste good. The only reason I would recommend Turtle Mountain over Crapper Barrel or Crapplebees, is that it is a local business and likely sources from closer by than those national chains. Keep it local, keep it fresh, keep the money close to home. I started with the McDays cream ale, a bright golden brew with a very low hop profile. It was gorgeous! Husband had the Stauffenberg, a slightly bitter oatmeal stout with chocolate malt. It was good. We got the short pour and both were $ 3.50 each, which I consider an outstanding price. Husband also had a short pour of the Café Bella Coffee Porter, and it took the prize. I could have a growler of this at home and happily survive the next snowmageddon. For food we both had burgers — he had the green chile cheddar and I had a bacon with blue cheese bits. Cooked to order, served hot, both were right on the money. The green chile had some heat! We shared steak fries and onion rings and both were good, but the onion rings were those smooth ones, not the ones with a lot of texture, and I frankly prefer the crunchier variety. I won’t order these again, but I’m not sorry I ate them. As far as the restaurant goes, service was five star. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and never seemed too frayed even though the place was full and he was working hard. We could see the server station from where we sat and noticed it had a hand washing basin which the servers and bussers used frequently. Yeah! As someone who is concerned about hand conveyed germs in restaurants, I thank you heartily. The space itself is kind of dark, the noise level is okay, the music is not too loud, and the tvs over by the bar area were not so loud that we had to shout. Overall, Turtle Mountain delivered exactly what I was looking for.
