Top notch! Great people and great food. What else do you need. Also, the Cuban is going to be part of my revised food pyramid.

I could spend an entire day going over everything amazing about this place. But who has that time? The food is too quality. I have tried literally every sandwich except for the veggie haha. I can not tell you which one is my favorite. The owner is a great guy who cares about the quality of his food. If you have any special requests then he will work with you to the best of his ability. May I recommend the Philly Steak and Cheese as a good starter. The Smokey Pig Supreme is also an excellent choice for you meat lovers. Feeling like some spice? Ask for the Fire in the Hole! Try the Cuban’s for an authentic Caribbean sandwich. Nothing like it on the west half. I will end it with this. Anyone who does not give this place a 5 star review has clearly never actually been here. I can promise that. Try it for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

We loved this place! We ordered the philly cheese steak and it was delicious! True to east coast style! Customer service was awesome. We will return again. We are going to have breakfast there this week, can’t wait! We would highly recommend this business.

We’re from the East Coast, where subs are like currency… been here a year and realized I’ve been so distracted by the classic NM cuisine that I haven’t had a sub to lust after. These were really creative and tasty subs. Classic. Juicy. Meaty. TASTY. I got a Turkey Bomb; my husband got the Fire In The Hole; my son got the Italian. Dinner was consumed in total silence. Not only were the subs good — and I can’t wait to try a few different ones — but the service was fast, friendly, and professional. Thumbs way up!

Instant favorite! Best subs you’ll find in this area… by far!(and I’ve tried them all) I’d recently heard about this place, didn’t know exactly where it was, but had a craving for a sub. Having tried all the others in the area and bad luck with either poor service or «meh» subs we sought out Alicea’s and wow — every single thing was great! The location is so easy it’s almost absurd — right on the corner of Southern and Golf Course. It’s a small shop front in the little sort of strip mall. We walked in and the décor was clean and simple, I imagine like a little sub shop you’d find in New York or Chicago. We were instantly greeted by a nice guy,(we’d later learn his name was French). He was super friendly, he asked if we’d been there before, we said no and he took his time to explain how everything worked — the sandwiches, the drinks, the desserts that looked so good I almost forgot I was there for a sub. I ordered a Philly cheese steak, 6-inch(can you believe they have a 14-inch too!?), a bottle of tea and he asked if I was«ok» with the house kettle-cooked chips and pickle that came with the sandwich… yes, please!(usually you have to pay extra for the chips and sometimes pickle) We sat as he busied away in the kitchen making our sandwiches. Pretty quickly they were at our table and all I was thinking was«please let this be as good as it looks,»… it wasn’t, it was better! As French talked with us I ate that sub like someone was going to take it away from me(hence, the reason for no photos) — the break was fresh, the portions were prefect and the chips were better than any bagged brand. Then, the pickle — the pickle can sometimes make or break a sandwich for me — this was not a spear but a full half of a pickle in a little ziplock and it was so good I lobbied for the other pickle in the basket across the way from me. As we cleaned up to leave I was reminded of the big, fudge brownies that I was eyeing when we first ordered and he explained how everything was made fresh — the brownies, the cookies, the bagels, the lemon bars(that are apparently quite popular) and I just couldn’t leave without one. If you’re ever in e the area, you need to try this place — at best, like me, you’ll find a new favorite sub/bagel/dessert shop and at worst you’ll get a similar sub to anything you’ll find in the area… but with a better pickle. Oh, and they deliver and cater!

I believe this is the next candidate for Diner, Drive-in’s, and Dives! It’s all about the food and the service here, so disregard the décor and prepare to have an excellent meal. Stopped in here on a lunch break during the week. Like any good sandwich shop it starts and ends with the bread. This place has the best bread around! Sandwiches are loaded with meat and toppings and their dressing(a take on an Italian sandwich dressing) is delicious. Everything is fresh and appears to be prepared on the spot. The owner is friend and welcoming, and treats his customers like family. I hope more people find and eat here because it’s the best sandwich place in the state.

I really like this place. The sub sandwiches are large portions. I always order the large portion and share half with my kid. Everything is made fresh. The owner is a nice guy too.

Fantastic sandwich, I got the Fire in the Hole. The bread was fresh, the ingredients tasted great and all at a fantastic price that really can’t be beat. Though the location is a bit out of the way, the trip is totally worth it. Now move to Albuquerque!

Being from Puerto Rico, the culture on the island parallels Cuba. A Cuban sandwich is a go to sandwich. Anyone who has lived there knows that the local panederia or El Meson are popular. I was pleasantly surprised to find Alicea’s. I had El Cubano and like I told Frenchy, it was the best Cubano I have ever had. Super generously sized and excellent pork roast and ham and the panini style bread is over the top. Many other classics on the menu. Run don’t walk to Alicea’s. This place is awesome!

First, lemme say… I’m not a sub sandwich kinda gal. The only place I’ll break the rules is for Jersey Mikes(gasp!). Anyway, the hubbs(who happens to be Eric. H that has also left a review on here) ranted and raved about LA Subs and kept begging me to try them out since he practically lives there now. I finally broke down and decided to give it a shot since he was pretty unrelenting. They’re right next door to a dance /zumba studio, so you’ll hear their music thumping through the wall without any difficulty. Then you end up meeting LA Subs owner who has the best personality I’ve met since moving here. Hilarious banter back and forth between all of us, entertaining stories, I mean… who needs to pay for entertainment when you got someone like that to keep spirits up? Everything there is extremely fresh, the bread is amazing and his brownies are out of this world. The prices are totally reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get. So, yes, my husband has converted me over to the LA Sub way… lol…just don’t tell Jersey Mikes… shuuush…

My son and I took a a chance on eating here. I mean that as in we didn’t know where we wanted to eat and took a chance as in we were tired of the usual fast food places and wanted to try something local. I’m sure glad we did! As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome and recommendations from the questions we had about the sandwiches. Once we got our sandwiches there were no questions. The best sandwiches in town! We got two large«Fire in the holes» and they were amazing! And for the sandwich and sides the price was very reasonable. My son and I have been back a couple more times since our first visit and we both have not been let down by anything on the menu. L.A. Subs is now one of my favorite places to eat in the city!

This is a good place to get a sub sandwich. I didn’t get to experience the top notch customer service or warm welcome like most other Unilocalers mentioned, but that wasn’t a high priority. Could use some tlc to look more inviting, but again, not a high priority for me. Got a free can of soda with my Unilocal check in. I didn’t quite understand the specials menu as there were no prices, and two different boards. Didn’t want to interrupt the people working there to explain as it looked like they were talking business, so just ordered from regular menu. $ 6.95 for small sandwich with chips and $ 2 more for large sandwich. I ordered small and I took some home as it was a very good portion. Meats and cheese doesn’t taste like real good quality(boars head, etc.) but it didn’t taste low quality(land o lakes, etc.). Parking here is difficult as most businesses have designated parking spots so I had to park along the street

Ok — this place knows how to make a good sub — fo-Shizzle. I went with the standard italian combo and was quite pleased. The bread is excellent and the meats weren’t skimped on by any means either. Again, my only shock which may have been my fault in not asking was, the absence of onion. Is this a New Mexico/Albuquerque thing — no one likes onion on a sub? Back where I’m from that’d be like going to sadies and eating chips without salsa! Crazy… lol That said, I will definitely be coming here again. It’s sort of out of the way — wish he was closer to coors etc but hopefully he’ll start to get more daily traffic. And speaking of, the parking was really weird. Very limited. Don’t let that discourage you though — go in and don’t forget to bring your own onion.(BYOO)

Best subs in NM! This place is great. I always get the same sandwich — the COMBO — Ham, Salami, and Cheese. This is not like Subway, there is no one counting out the number of pieces of meat going on your sandwich, you won’t get two cheese triangles… you get a real sandwich! The bread is delicious, piled with ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, Italian dressing, and mayo. The result is a happy stomach. There are other condiments you can get on your sandwich, that’s just how I prefer my sandwich. I always get a small, which is plenty for 1 person. The owner always seems to be present and he’s super friendly. The menu isn’t huge, but I think that’s what makes it good. When you have too much, the quality seems to go down. The meats and cheeses are good quality and you can tell they are not sitting around for days. I even noticed the tomatoes were a better quality than what you get at most sandwich places. On top of that, I think the prices are reasonable. I would definitely recommend eating at this place again and again. I keep thinking I need to try another sandwich — like the pulled pork, but once I walk in, I start thinking about that combo sandwich and I can’t order anything different. They also have bagels in the morning, I just haven’t made it over yet to check it out.

L.A. Subs may be new to Rio Rancho, but they’ve been slinging heroes for a couple of decades. They actually got their start in 1990 in, you guessed it, Florida. And, as the name suggests, they also serve some great New York style bagels. Alright, so the place is geographically confusing, but they certainly know their way around a sandwich. Albuquerque is a wonderful city for restaurants, but there has always been a strange lack of good, local sandwich shops. Sure, there are some places where you can get grass-fed, local roast beef and organic micro-greens on a tiny artisan challah, and pay 12 bucks for it. But that’s not what I want. I’m tired of the so-called gourmet sandwich shops. I just want a lot of unpretentious meat, cheese, and veggies on a good hoagie roll. And that is exactly what L.A. Subs delivers. None of the sandwich fillings or arrangements thereof are going to surprise people, they are more or less standard issue. Turkey, ham, roast beef, various Italian cured meats to accent, along with provolone, muenster(slightly surprising), and American(maybe cheddar, too) establish the foundation. From there, it’s on to the lettuce, tomato, and two or three et ceteras. All of the ingredients are fresh and tasty, and the owner/sandwich-monger whom I can only assume is named Mr. Elaysubs, is not shy about piling them on. The whole size subs come out large and in charge and fulling warrant the price. The menu is small, but I would call it «well-selected» rather than«limited.» No Fritos and enchilada sauce laden monstrosity here. To some people, that may sound boring and unimaginative, since they only offer meats in combinations you’d expect, don’t have any exotic sauces, and stick to the kind of veggie toppings you have in your own house. Personally, I think it’s like a sonnet: there is a set number of lines, a set meter, foot, and general structure, but it’s working well within those constraints that make the result so appealing. And L.A. Subs does a damn good job at sticking to tradition while still being delicious, high-quality, and having its own personality. And, on the note of personality, Mr. Elaysubs is warm, friendly, and laidback, clearly he really cares about his customers and his subs. The one blemish is the atmosphere. While I don’t really want a sleek, shiny corporate look, L.A. Subs’ interior has a hastily put-together kind of feel to it, with boxes and supplies visible in the dining area. Not really a big deal, but combined with the obnoxious bass blasting out of the Zumba studio next door, it’s not really a nice ambiance to dine in. Still, the food is amazing, and I am so glad to have a local sub shop this good this close.
