I like trying new restaurants, and am always happy when I find a good one. Unfortunately, this was not the case with Talley’s. The place was virtually void of customers — never a good sign — and the place seemed rather dark. I ordered the chili and it came ice cold in the middle. I sent it back and got a new one that was hot this time, but it was the consistency of baby food and rather disgusting. The cornbread was like a brick and inedible. The fried macaroni and cheese was fairly tasty, but since when did it become a good idea to liberally use sriracha as a plate garnish — or at all? It made some bites unpleasantly spicy. I didn’t order an entrée as the menu didn’t appeal to me. I mean, scrambled eggs and roast turkey on a dinner menu? If I wanted that I would go to Someplace like Bob Evans! Or my own kitchen. I can’t see this place staying open much longer, they just don’t have the right«recipe» to compete in a city full of really great eating experiences. Definitely don’t waste your time or money here.

We had high hopes for Talley’s. Toast is a restaurant we love for just about anything and with this being owned by the same people, we were excited. It just got written up in Paula Dean magazine, it should have been good. WRONG! Once our server came to explain the menu, it took us 20 minutes to ever see her again. She had ordered and retrieved drinks for a table of 6 that sat AFTER us before ever coming to even take our order for drinks or food. The food came and obviously the chef has some major problem with salt. EVERYTHINGWASSOBLAND! MY husband got cold and salt-less mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes had no flavor and the jalapeño corn bread was like eating cardboard… SALTLESS cardboard. I had the steak, which was fine, at least it had salt but that was basically the only favor it had. Corn… you guess it, no flavor and I have had better Texas toast from a box in the frozen food section. We hated it and won’t be back!

This was great! Our first time here. I got the roasted turkey with gravy, fried okra, and glazed carrots. Soooo good. Other people at the table got fish & chips, tilapia, and more roasted turkey. Dinner was great and we will definitely be back. Reasonable price.

Had a team lunch there. Found this place on Unilocal.I had the steakhouse melt with a side of broccoli and melted cheese. The broccoli side was a little bit too soft for my taste and the melted cheese was soupy. I ordered a rare steakhouse melt sandwich and it was pretty good. The meat was cooked just to my liking and the bread was soft and crispy at the same time. I ate half and saved the other half for my hubby. Really enjoyed the sandwich a lot. Service was great and friendly and the place is really clean and nice. I can def see a date night here.

I brought a group of 10 friends Saturday.. None of us had ever been here. I read Unilocal reviews and called to ask if they took reservations. They do and I appreciate that. I did thank the manager personally. Our server did a good job. Service was timely considering our number and other patrons were there. The meatloaf tasted different –I ate most of it. The server said that it had mushrooms in it so I ordered it since I love mushrooms. Just not in love with the flavor. The cornbread was hard. I prefer it to be softer. The Mac and cheese was yummy!

2nd attempt to eat here. Salad was not horrible this time but nothing to come back for. The wings were burnt and I was hungry like two hours later bc I barely could get any chicken off them. Sigh… Guess this will be my final visit.

Modern, chic atmosphere with enticing options. We had the deviled eggs which were great and then shared rotisserie chicken. The food is good, I’d recommend the side of corn bread stuffing or Mac n cheese. Definitely a place I’d revisit. :)

Eh… I heard good things about this place, but. Issues: The mac and cheese seemed like it had been sitting out for god knows how long, it was definitely not just made. The mashed potatoes were some of the worst that I’ve had in my life, and I usually get them most places that I go to. The meats were ok, but nothing special at all. My friend’s meal was $ 1 more than what was advertised on the menu. Like get it together… I really wish I could take my money back. Good points: It was pretty inside. I liked one of the side. I liked the dessert. That’s it.

I had the meat and two for lunch. Meatloaf with Mac n cheese and collards. Service was excellent. I was asked If It was my first visit and how did I hear of them. I said« Unilocal!» Just scanning places to grab a lunch. Food was not bad, I didn’t do back flips, but I will definitely go back and try some of the other menu items. Plenty of sides to choose from. But overall, great service, nice looking place and pretty good food. I went around 2:30, late lunch, but not many patrons. Food came out pretty fast. Worth the try if in the area.

Stopped in for dinner after seeing other positive Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed. The place is clean and pretty cool inside. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly. They have a good selection of local beers. I ordered the deviled eggs(they are topped with candied bacon!!) and the fried chicken and grits. Both were amazing, I can’t stop thinking about it and I need to learn how to replicate them. I will definitely be going back the next time I’m in Richmond.

A wonderful menu of comfort food. You get you choice of a main dish and two sides. Excellently prepared as well. The fried fish with candied yams and mac & cheese were all good. Wasn’t excited about the marshmallows as they were a little burnt. The portions are large and an excellent value as well. A relaxing atmosphere and friendly service.

My 4th time here. I’m less and less impressed with the food. I remember when I was there the first time, the food was beautifully plated. Chefs used their brain to organize the sides and the meat to enhance the dining experience. Now, zero plating; 100% loading. When the food comes out, it looks like someone assisted u with getting your food from a buffet. Pictures attached.

Last night we past Talley’s on our way to dinner. We decided to go back for(a late) lunch today. The décor and atmosphere were great. There was one large party and a couple at the bar and then my husband and myself. We were immediately welcomed and sat. I ordered the three eggs over easy, cheddar grits, okra and potato salad. It was from the meat and three sides menu. It was all delicious. My husband had the brisket, Mac n cheese and potato salad. The food was delicious(a little more fat on the brisket then we like, but that is just personal taste). The staff was friendly and attentive. Jeanne(the manager) was super. She welcomed us and took our orders. She was super friendly. She then had to assist the large party(18 people I believe) and Pauline(I think was her name, my bad for forgetting) waited on us with our food. She was also attentive and made the visit a pleasant one. We really enjoyed our food and the staff. We will definitely be going back!

I decided not to wait very long to give Talley’s Meat & Three another try. I rounded up a couple of friends and went in for dinner tonight. We were greeted at the door warmly and seated right away. The restaurant was definitely busy at 6:15pm with two very large groups near us. Our waiter Bob appeared and asked if we had any questions regarding the menu while taking our drink orders. I simply asked how long Talley’s has been open as one of my guests was interested in knowing.(I never shared with them any info about my visit from 2 weeks ago). Bob took the ball and ran with it, in a good way. He explained they have only been open as Talley’s for 6 weeks and gave us some background about the owners, their other Restaurants in the family, and where the name for Talley’s came from. All interesting stuff. He made us feel good about being there! When we ordered we asked for the Cheerwine Smoked Brisket, The Salisbury Steak, and a Salad with Smoked Turkey. Sides were Mashed Potatoes, Mac ‘n Cheese, Roasted Carrots, and Green Beans. Everything was solid, a good meal all around. But our favorite, The Smoked Brisket, was unbelievable!!! Who came up with the idea of marinating with Cheerwine? Genius!!! I can’t wait to return and order it again! Almost a five star visit but the music was a little too loud, and the desserts seemed to be lacking a wow factor for the price. Bob was an incredible waiter. Great Customer service. Good job Talley’s and Thank you!

I was at the old Estilo that inhabited it’s space and really liked the owners South American inspired flair in that menu. He’s switched gears now and the new formula of the old meat and three with a twist of modern cooking really got me hooked the first time I tried it. The old standards of hamburger steak and turkey dinner, pork chops etc. come with a new twist. All the sides are top quality. I took home a huge portion of my meal which made for a great lunch the next day.

I don’t think«disappointed» is the word, but something along those lines. I had been really eager to try Talley’s and thought it would be a perfect place to go on the day we celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday since we were going to The Escape Room in the same shopping center. We decided to get one meal and split it. we chose fried shrimp as our«meat» and greens, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese as our«three» with wings as an appetizer. I really didn’t care for the wings. While they were piping hot and juicy on the inside, the outside seemed burnt to me. They didn’t really have a taste either. I was hoping the main attraction would be a little bit more appetizing and it was. The shrimp was very good, collard greens were interesting(they were cooked with tomatoes), mashed potatoes were ok, but a really smooth texture. Almost runny? I prefer my mashed potatoes to be a bit thicker, but these were not bad by any means. I enjoyed the spiral shaped noodles. The only thing I would have changed about that would be to add a little more cheese. We’re going to give Talley’s another shot! Hopefully the next time we’ll be a little more blown away like i wanted to be.

DH and I were on our way to dinner at Toast when we saw a new restaurant had opened and decided to try that instead. We were even happier to find out it was owned and operated by Josh and Jess, owners of Toast and Hutch. For our first visit, DH and I decided that we would order most all of the appetizers instead of entrees for our meal. That way, we would get to try lots of things. So we ordered the chicken wings, fried shrimp, frito pie and the deviled eggs. A couple of bourbon based drinks too. After all, it was a Friday night and it has been a long week at work. Of all the lovely treats we ordered, my favorites were the shrimp and the deviled eggs. The shrimp were fried to absolute perfection and did not need to be dipped in either of sauces with which they were served. It would have detracted from the taste of the shrimp in my opinion. The deviled eggs were equally delicious — smooth and creamy and topped off with candied bacon, giving them a wonderful finish. The chicken wings were nice also. Three were cooked well but the other three were a tad overcooked. The manager, Javier, offered to replace them. We thanked him but declined his kind offer. My brother said the same thing happened to him on his visit. The frito pie I will call authentic, although I will say the chili served on top is of a much better quality than what you would find in ballparks in the deep South. It was tasty, but next time I may turn my attention to some of Talley’s other offerings, like that Pimento Cheese Ball! Service was top-notch. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. He always knew the right time to appear. For being open for just a month, it was a nice dinner crowd. So I am glad to know they are doing well. In all, DH and I enjoyed our grazing dinner and look forward to coming back and trying some of their other creative offerings, like that Cheerwine-Braised brisket!

Great service at Talley’s Meat & Three, but unfortunately the food was, in our southern food fanatics opinion, nothing special or particularly original. While we do try to support local restaurants as much as possible, if you desire southern family meals, you can get the same concept meals of a meat, three sides and bread; better found done right at Cracker Barrel. which also has a family atmosphere and is easier on the wallet. Three of us ordered three different meats: Chicken Wings, Slow roasted pork, and Hamburger Steak. We each ordered Deviled Eggs. Two ordered Collard Greens. I got mac n cheese and Candied Yam, another got cheese grits and lastly mashed potatoes. The one standout was the mac n cheese(much better than the Mac n cheese at Toast and Hutch) followed by the cheese grits. The chicken wings arrived 5 of the advertised 6, smelled awesome, and they are huge. The skin was crisp and tasty, but after that they were just average. The cheese grits received high praise. The collards were inedible spicey(one of two actually likes spicey collards but this was overkill, also way too much tomato). The Hamburger steak lacked basic seasoning and arrived sans brown gravy. The mashed potatoes were not good. The slow roasted pork was very good. The Candied Yam was bland. The Deviled Eggs were also good, but not great, take away the crumbles of overcooked bacon and they were better. Two of us ordered cornbread, 1 ordered jalapeño cornbread. Not good. The pimento cheeseball was very good, we also had a few adult beverages that were just okay. I can’t see us returning to Talley’s, we were underwhelmed and dissaponted.

My meal started with the wedge salad, which was pretty good but nothing special. I ordered the cocktail with cucumber which had a slight vinegar twinge but I loved it, it was refreshing and the perfect balance of sweet and sour. The pulled pork was Devine with the vinegar sauce. The sweet sauce was odd. Deviled eggs were outstanding. The collards were full of flavor. The candied yams left something to be desired, a but watery it this was the only real let down. We had gluten free key lime pie for dessert that had a sugar crunchy top over a tart fresh key lime pie(no fake green coloring). It was perfect! The staff was friendly, portions wee generous and I cannot wait to return!

Though I am super sad that Estilo is gone, the creators of Toast have another hit on their hands. First of all, the restaurant is super well decorated. It definitely gives off the family, homecooked vibe they are going for. The Food– I absolutely loved my meal. I ordered the hamburger steak with deviled eggs, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, and Texas toast! The portions are ridiculous! You cannot beat the price for the amount of food. All of the food was absolutely incredible. The hamburger steak was so well seasoned, when normally it’s super bland and boring. My sides were perfect with the deviled eggs being the standout. I also tried my BF’s brisket, the Cheerwine braise was outrageous. The only let down was his green bean casserole, which was just buttered green beans with a sauce on top. They didn’t blend well together and were the lowlight of dinner. We were bummed since we were most excited for the green bean casserole. The Service– both of our servers were really good! You can tell they are well seasoned and know their job. The only snafu was my BF’s fries did not come out with his entrée and when we asked they didn’t come until the meal was almost done. The fries were worth the wait! Overall I LOVED Talley’s and I am excited to go back. They have a few kinks to work out and it will be a 5 star location soon.
