Cafe 1602

I chose to try Café 1602 based on other reviews. The food was passable, but I can’t see myself going there again. The fries were limp and the cheeseburger was from a frozen patty and pretty flavorless.
I think this café is for those who work in the office building and don’t have other choices. All food is presented in styrofoam to-​go packaging.

Great little café. Good food and fast service! There’s a small seating area if you wanna dine in. They also deliver. I have had a chicken sandwich and a burger from Yossi’s and both were phenomenal and fresh. Oh and I had a slice of chocolate pudding pie… yes I splurged and it was worth it!

I had been walking by the sign saying «Café 1602» since I moved to this area in January of 2015, but I assumed it was for people that worked in the business park that it was located in (don’t ask me why I assumed that). Finally I read some reviews; one here on Unilocal and others on Google. They were all good.
I finally went in on September 29^th, 2015.
To be honest, it is really more of a take out place, and I am sure that the bulk of their customers are delivery and take out, no surprise as it is located in a one mile square business park. It is a small shop, seating is several tables and then about five high up tables with «barstool» type chairs.
I was very much in a breakfast mood, even though it was getting closer to lunch. They stop serving breakfast at 11:00am. I asked if I could have breakfast and the gentleman behind the counter said that they were only serving lunch now. He was very polite about it. I told him I was really in the mood for breakfast and that I would come back another time. Just as I was about to go through the door, the cook, who had been sitting at a table next to the counter said; «no problem, I can fix you breakfast!»
She made me a cheese omelette, rye toast, hash browns and bacon. It was good, but not «great», but I wasn’t expecting «great». I didn’t tell them it was to stay, so it was served in a takeout container.
All I can say is I have one more place to choose from in the area and I will probably stick with takeout. They were friendly and the cook went way above and beyond the call of duty. She obviously wanted to keep a customer and that is what happened.
I’m giving four stars partly because as a eat in experience it was, for me, lacking. As I said I will stick with takeout, especially since I live close by. Also, so far, the one meal was «OK», but nothing to do cartwheels about.
What stands out to me was the accommodation of the cook. Her boss (the owner) certainly did nothing to stop her, so he gets kudos for that, as well.
I will sample their lunch fare in the coming weeks and give an updated assessment here.

Café 1602 in the vicinity of Franklin Farms Drive, Richmond, VA. Yossi, you rock!!! The Café is open M-​F for breakfast and lunch but they CATER!!! Wahoo!!! I heard of Yossi by way of a friend of a friend, etc and had never met him or eaten at his café. It was a total gamble and I rolled a seven!!! I used Yossi to cater a big religious event for over 100 people and the food was FABULOUS!!! The service was top notch and the price was more than reasonable! Spread the word… Café 1602/Yossi…you are Wonderful!!!
