Some of the best Greek food I’ve ever had! My hubby and I are new in town from Seattle. Still trying to figure out which places are a hit and which are a miss. We wondered into this place without doing much research and crossed our fingers hoping for the best. Service was slow, so we thought. Hope it’s worth the wait. Well good things do come to those who wait! This place is awesome! Prices are reasonable. Food an A+! Taziki sauce was the best I’ve ever had, seriously delicious. I’m only giving it 4 stars cause it was a long wait. Other than that I’d have to say this is my new fav restaurant in RVA.

I was immediately greeted by a sincere smiling young lady who invited me to have a seat, the restaurant is much cleaner and more inviting than when it was under the previous ownership and the service is much faster and very friendly. I couldn’t decide what I wanted so I chose the pikilia 2, a fresh treat of hummus, falafel, feta, pita plus more. The food was extremely fresh, well seasoned and perfectly delicious! The prices are very reasonable, and the amount of food I received allowed lunch for tomorrow. A great value and superb food. I can’t wait to return.

We recently tried this place, understanding it was under new management(possibly for some time — I’m not sure how long). We didn’t care for the old incarnation at all, but the new one we LOVE. We’ve now been three times for takeout and each was wonderful. My husband loves the gyro platter that involves salad and fries — he can’t get enough of it. The mixed appetizer platter is wonderful too, with lots of things to try. The desserts are super, with nice, crispy phyllo pastry — none of that soggy stuff. Having a Greek grandmother and also having lived in Turkey for some time, I love the regular menu and also the Turkish specials — best of both worlds! The Adana kebab is fantastic — definitely try that one out if you see it! I also love that the last time I went in they had Big Fat Greek Wedding playing on the television — so cute. The waitress and I are equally enthused about the upcoming sequel, and her excitement was really sweet and genuinely cheerful.

This place was a little odd. First off there was flies all around us while we were eating and the staff was weird. We asked them if they serve halal and they didn’t even know what halal was. After asking someone they came back and told us EVERYTHING was halal. So that was kinda concerning. Then they brought out pita and tzekie(s?) Sauce with olives. Which was delishhh. Then we ordered a chicken gyro and a in house special lamb gyro. The chicken gyro was pretty good but the chicken didn’t seem very fresh. The house special lamb gyro was terrible. The meat was so dry I couldn’t even swallow it, and I didn’t even want to finish it. The meat was dry and burnt, definitely would not recommend. I do not think I’d come back here but if I did I would try something new.

Huge portions! I usually order the lamb gyro. On a hungry day, I can finish the whole thing. Otherwise, I’d prob have a bit to take home. If on a particular day you have a HUGE appetite, you can order the mega version. huge! When you dine in, they usually serve your table with a plate of pita and tzatziki to share. Yum!

Came here with my brother for the first time the other day for lunch. We were given pita and tzatziki after being seated and it was so good. I was excited for our food. I ordered the lamb souvlaki with rice and my brother ordered the large lamb gyro with eggplant fries. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I’ve never had souvlaki before but the meat was a little tough. Other than that, everything was really good. The small Greek salad was fresh and my meal came with more pita. I got full after only eating half. My brother really liked his gyro too. And I stole some of his eggplant fries– something different but so yum. Our server happily boxed up my food and wished us a good day. I appreciate good service.

After a long search for the best Greek restaurant in the Richmond area, I have finally found the one — The Greek on Cary. My personal favorites are the gyro platter or wrap and the green beans; however, I have not ordered anything I did not like. In addition to the meal, Pitts and tatziki sauce are served as a small appetizer and it is so good. The service is fast, polite, and very friendly. In case you feel like eating in or at home, the portions and quality of food does not differ, which I find to be an issue at some locations.

My boyfriend and I went here last night for dinner and it was amazing! We dined in and the server and staff were extremely kind, helpful, and friendly. We asked them several questions about the menu and they were happy to help us out. First, the complementary pita points and tzatziki were awesome. The bread was warm and soft, and the tzatziki was fresh and cool. Our calamari appetizer was tender, well-cooked, not heavily breaded, and came with breaded, fried jalapenos and sweet hot red peppers that added a great kick. There were a few delightful tentacle bunches of what I think were octopus, too. I wanted to order the veggie moussaka, but they were out, so the server suggested the falafel platter that is not yet listed on the menu. It came with a small greek salad with generous herbed feta and vinaigrette, a sizable portion of hummus, pita points, 4 large falafel, and a thin tahini dipping sauce. The falafel seemed slightly dark but tasted great and they were tender and flavorful on the inside. My boyfriend ordered the lamb gyro platter with fries and Greek salad. There was literally a heaping pile of shredded lamb on his plate! The meat was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. It came with pita and tzatziki as well. Both of our meals were very filling! Our entire meal came out to about $ 31. The generous amount of delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, and very affordable prices will definitely bring us back here in the future!

We love this place. I live in Midlothian and when I gave a craving for a gyro this is where I need to go! I have trained other places closer but none life up to my expectations of what I’m used to getting in New York. We got a gyro and a gyro platter. The gyro is just awesome. The platter was too and you get a choice of sides. This was the first time I had sweet potato tater tots. Loved them. I didn’t even know there was such a thing.

In the area for a wedding and only had an opportunity to order for take-out. I had the home-made lamb gyro and my wife had a Greek salad. Wife said the salad was really good, especially the feta they use. The gyro I had was better than any gyro I’ve had in Jersey. Portion sizes are great, they don’t get skimpy with the feta on the salad or the meat on the gyro(and I didn’t even order the mega size gyro so I can only imagine how much is in that one). If ever in the area again I will definitely eat here again. I couldn’t help but notice one of the recent negative reviews while I looked this place up, prior to deciding upon it. Must’ve caught them on an off day, it happens. Being Greek myself, I can assure you this spot is legit. It may sound like I’m biased, however I can admit when the food somewhere is good or not.

Considering I come from an Italian background we very so often have lamb and Greek food. This is the best spot I’ve ever been too and has huge portions for a good price! The staff is super friendly and was helpful when I couldn’t decide.

I used to frequently come here to get the falafel and the gyro before the change in menu and management. Tonight was my first time eating here since the change. After tonight I do not know if I will be back. The menu is larger and more complex. Greek on Cary seems to want to be a full sit down restaurant but it cannot deliver. The service was slow and the«server» was abrasive and came off as annoyed. I planned to dine in the restaurant but after waiting too long and watching Togo food move quickly out the door, I asked for the food Togo. The lamb in my gyro seemed old and was so dry I could not finish it. I do not think gyro meat should be crunchy, hard, and dehydrated. The falafel had a hard piece of something cooked into it that when I bit into it I thought I may have chipped a tooth. Both the gyro and falafel were bland and overall very disappointing. This used to be a favorite spot for a quick but delicious bite to eat. But after tonight I will not be in a hurry to go back. Two stars only because I used to very much enjoy this spot.

I’m going to be back in soon. This place has the best calamari in Richmond hands down. The gyro is amazing with soft tender pita bread. They make their own gyro meat. The baklava is heavenly. I’m going to be ordering the lamb souvlaki next, and I already know it’s going to rock my world. I can’t believe that I took so long getting here.

This place is the . The food was awesome, got a gyro with the home style meat which I recommend. The spices on the fries was really good as well. Really my only complaint is when I was there they were putting in a speaker system and they had it turned up quite loud. Like to the point I couldn’t hear the cashier. It was a new toy for them so maybe they’re excited to get it and still working out the bugs. That wasn’t a reason for me to not go back. Just something to note.

I had the biggest craving for a gyro and decided to order cary out one day during lunch. They answered the phone immediately and my order was ready within 5 minutes so thumbs up on that. The lamb gyro was extremely flavorfull and meat/sauce/veggie ratio was completely balanced. The pita was a little greasy in my personal opinion, seemed like they fried it but maybe getting it grilled would be a better option. They give you two different options on the type of gyro you can get Chicago(beef/lamb) style or traditional. To get a combo its an addtional $ 3(which seems pricy) for fries and a soda and $ 4 for a side salad and extra tzatziki or feta is $ 1. Overall food is amazing and prices aren’t that bad but side items and add ons quickly add up.

Had a chance to swing over for lunch today. I asked what he’d recommend and he went with the Homemade Lamb Gyro. Probably the best gyro I’ve ever had. There was almost too much meat. And it wasn’t the pre made pre sliced lamb you normally see. I’d go back in a minute.

I try to avoid using the term«best ever» on Unilocal as much as possible. Without a doubt though, the chicken and lamb gyro I had today at Greek on Cary WAS one of the best I’ve ever had. It is certainly one of the best, if not the best, gyro in Richmond. That’s saying something for an area that has a fairly large number of Greek places to choose from. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Tender, juicy, moist, not even a hint of gristle or fat. Same goes for the beef. Just awesome. Perfectly prepared. The tzatziki sauce was another treat in and of itself-they make it with dill, which gives it just the right amount of pop. Round everything out with some fresh tomato, onions, and lettuce, and you have one hell of a gyro. Portions-for $ 12 I got a gyro the size of my face, a GENEROUS serving of french fries, and a regular drink. I’ll be honest, it’s really tough for me to justify a $ 12 lunch combo. For some people, it’s just more than they’re looking to spend. I’ll admit that I’m frequently in that camp. But here we have a rare case where I feel spending $ 12 on lunch is totally justified. The portions are right, and the quality is even better. Worth it. I’d like to mention also that the service here was great. Everyone was super nice, and my order was made quickly to go. I absolutely loved my lunch at Greek on Cary. When I’m back in Richmond, I have a reminder set to stop by. If you’re in the mood for a truly exceptional gyro, come to Carytown and give Greek on Cary a try. You won’t be disappointed. **After reading some more reviews and seeing some photos, I’m pretty sure I ordered the mega gyro instead of the regular sized one. So the comments on the $ 12 dollar price point apply to the mega size, not the regular. But honestly… go big or go home. Get the mega.**

I have a confession: we skipped the Greek festival to come here! we just weren’t in the mood to sweat it out in the sun and stand in line for Greek food at the Greek festival today… don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking the Greek festival(we’ve been going since we were kids!) but we just were really excited to eat some gyros in the air conditioning. I have been coming here since they were Basilis, back in my vcu days. when I saw it was now the Greek on Cary, of course I had to consult Unilocal to find out if it was still the same chef! Good news is, the only things that have changed is the name and the décor! When it was Basilis, you ordered at the counter and then grab a booth to sit and eat, now you have the option to order at the counter or sit and have someone wait on you. we chose the latter, and it took a little while for anyone to come to our table(and it wasn’t busy!) so that was annoying. the first waitress was kind of rude — she didn’t introduce herself, she just walked up to our table«what can I get you to drink?»…luckily she wasn’t our server the whole time. the second server was SO much better! she even brought us a plate of tzatziki and warm pita bread to munch on while we waited. their tzatziki is so much better than the stuff I try to make at home. Haha! My boyfriend and I both got the«mega» gyro for $ 9, and made it a combo with fries and sodas for an extra $ 3. we didn’t realize just how MEGA the mega gyro was gonna be! they were so yummy and so perfectly seasoned we didn’t ever want to stop eating! and so much meat! we both ended up taking home half our meals. :) the fries are so good too: perfectly seasoned, thick and crisp! food wise this place is 5 stars, but the service, or lack thereof, makes it a four star review. I’d definitely take our food to go next time. we sat with empty drink cups and were left waiting longer than we would have liked. next time I want to try the Santorini Special which looks like an open faced gyro/Greek nachos! Glad to see this place is still here!

This place was amazing and I can’t wait to go back. It made a Greek food lover out of me! Came here with my lady friend and her family for lunch one recent Saturday. I had never been a huge fan of Greek cuisine before, though this place turned that around completely. Had some pita bread and tzatziki for an appetizer and the lamb burger for the meal and both were nothing short of delicious. Our service was quick as well, and the open setup of the place makes it easy for them to bring you your food and refills(though the setup also makes everything much louder as well!). The place is pretty small which makes it difficult to get seated sometimes(especially larger parties), though they turn tables pretty quickly so hopefully your wait won’t be too long. I can tell you this much: it’s worth the wait. Overall: 4.5 stars — — — – Pros: — Food is superb and well-worth returning for. — Service is rapid and gets the job done nicely. — Carytown has plenty of parking as soon as you get off of Cary Street. Try the block south of it and you should get a space with no trouble. Cons: — Bit of a fast food atmosphere in the sense that it is small, loud, and less than elegant in terms of the atmosphere, though so long as you’re not there entertaining fancy guests, this won’t be much of an issue for you. — There may be a wait, especially if you have a party.

Man… this place is good. There is this Gyro place in Northern Virginia that I am obsessed with and always always go to when I’m there. However, it’s been a little difficult finding somewhere to satisfy my cravings when I’m in Richmond. I’m SO happy I found this place. I remember randomly eating here about 3 years ago with some friends while we were walking around in Cary town. Decided to try it again and yum yum yum. Their portions, first of all are ginormous. Prices are great and their food is GREAT. My roommate and I were eating their Gyros the other day and I’m not even kidding after our first bite, we look at each other and were like«Oh my god.» Try this place. It is a must. Casual seating, very great and fast service, amazing food, and great prices. What else can you ask for?
