I really do not understand some of the reviews of Carytown Cupcakes. Everytime I go, my cupcakes are just how I want them to be. I went this past week and had a vegan strawberry cupcake of some sort, it was delicious. My favorite is peanut butter chocolate though, that one is always delicious. Only bad flavor I’ve ever had there has been the salted caramel, it had a weird taste. I haven’t been to Pearls yet, so I do not know how these compare but I do like these cupcakes and it is very easy for me to stop here on my way home from grocery shopping.

3 dollar was a little hefty for the size. But I got an Oreo Peanut Butter one and it was amazing. The frosting was delicious there was literally an Oreo baked into it. Yum!

The variety is limited. At least when I went. I got the red velvet cupcake and it was good but the cream cheese frosting was great!

One of the best gluten free cupcakes I’ve ever had!!! Also, the fact that they have both coffee AND alcohol options is the cherry on top. Amazing little happy hour on weekdays for cupcake/wine combos.

Cute little place with good service. However, cupcake was dry and lacked flavor. Definitely not worth $ 3 a piece.

As a HUGE Harry Potter fan, imagine my surprise, excitement, and pure glee when they announced that they were having Harry Potter week at the shop. I couldn’t wait to taste the flavors, see the decorations, and go to the events! I mean, this is something that no other biz in Richmond has ever done(that I know of). I had been to Carytown Cupcakes before(who hasn’t), and I’ll be honest, they’ve never been my favorite. But! Harry Potter week drew me back in and was a great opportunity to give them a 2nd chance. It had been 2 years since I’d had one of their cupcakes, which(to me) is plenty of time to have learned from the constructive criticism and make changes. I went multiple times during that week and… nothing has changed with their cupcakes. If you read through the reviews, the common complaint is that they are dry. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s true. They are. I don’t know if they make them dry so that you turn around and buy something to drink afterward or what? But, it was honestly a disappointment. Harry Potter week was such a fantastic idea, but when the product doesn’t deliver, it’s a sad state of affairs. I found them to be dry(how many times can I say that?), and relatively flavorless. The cake itself did not taste special or worth the $ 17 that I paid for«the lot». You can go down to Pearl’s and pay around the same price for bigger, melt-in-your-mouth cupcakes. I also must comment on the service. Both times that I went, I did not have a warm and fuzzy feeling from any of the employees with whom I interacted. I get that it was a busy week, but both times I was in the shop, there were only a few other people there and the service was still not great. I would humbly suggest changing up the cupcake and icing recipes and service with a smile. Just some food for thought!

I went to Carytown Cupcakes for Harry Potter week. I was excited because they had themed cupcakes, decorations, and BUTTERBEER. I’ll begin by saying that I’ve never seen this place so busy before! People were lined up waiting outside the door before the shop opened(myself included). I was actually going to go get cupcakes really quickly in between classes but they decided to open up an hour later today(needless to say, I skipped class.) I was first in line as soon as the doors opened and I got«the lot» — that is, all six of the themed Harry Potter cupcakes which they had prepared before opening. I was disappointed that they didn’t start serving butter beer yet, but that’s alright because it’s really easy to make at home and I would’ve been overpaying anyway. The lot cost about $ 14 if I recall correctly, so they definitely jacked up their prices. In terms of cupcakes, they really stepped up their game. All the flavors were delicious — textures and sweetness levels were just right. On the other hand, I found the presentation kind of rushed and messy looking. All that being said, Harry Potter week was a really cute idea and I hope they do it again! Would also love to see even more themed weeks for other fandoms in the near future.

I don’t like when items in the case don’t have prices, and you have to ask. I didnt ask. Just got 2 Cupcakes. Carrot Cake style. 1 was hollow after biting into it.

If you’ve been to a desert city like Las Vegas, you’ll understand what I mean when I say these things are dry. These cupcakes have only ever been a crumbly mess for me. I’ve given these cupcakes so many chances since they opened and I have continued to be unimpressed with their offering in the cupcake landscape of the city. I can appreciate dessert-driven shops, but I’d skip this and head up to Pearl’s.

This place screams«girl date!» It’s bright colors and cupcakes and wine certainly fit the stereotype. I found it surprising that they also serve beer. I have tried two of their cupcakes, vanilla and Samoa. I generally LOVE vanilla, but it was a bit boring. The Samoa was delicious, though. The cupcakes are very dense and a little dry. Also, it’s really cool that they recommend pairings between flavors of cupcakes and kinds of wine or beer. It is a bit pricey, but I expect that from a specialty cupcake place.

I have tried many cupcakes but these by far are the worst. The cake falls apart so you either have to put the whole cake in your mouth or eat the crumbs !!! The icing is ok. Would not recommend and will not come back

I stopped by Carytown Cupcakes with my sister for a quick dessert. We were kindly greeted after entering the shop. I ordered a Lemon Lover and Oreo Peanut Butter Chocolate cupcake. The cake and icing was good. Both cupcakes were good but not great. I went later in the day so some flavors were sold out. I will come back at an earlier time when it’s more flavors available. The cupcake shop was well maintained. Staff was friendly during check out. Parking can be a hassle depending on day and time(street). I give Carytown Cupcakes a 3.5 rating.

I stumbled upon Carytown Cupcakes while strolling through the watermelon festival… and I was pleasantly surprised at how moist & delicious these cupcakes were. the store is small but the line clearly showed how good the cupcakes are. I tried the strawberry gluton free because it had real strawberries in it. I was looking for a strawberry shortcake flavor and this was the closest I could get. The interesting thing about this store is that it also serves drinks. alcoholic ones. Interesting mix… I dont think Ive ever seen drinks in a cupcake shop. The service was awesome here too. It was super busy because of the watermelon festival traffic but they had several people behind the counter taking orders.

I think maybe people are too harsh eithe their ratings? Perhaps it’s the flavor I got-peach pecan cobbler-but I thought it was up there with the best cupcakes I’ve had! I also love the concept of the place– cupcakes with wine paring– even though we got the Cupcake to go and did not partake in the wine/beer. I hope a place with this concept opens in columbus! Yum! I would be back to try another flavor if I happen to be in the area again!

Not the absolute best cupcakes I’ve tried, but this place is definitely worth a visit if you’re going to Carytown. That being said, I go here pretty much every time I go to Carytown. Although these aren’t the best cupcakes I’ve tried overall, Carytown Cupcakes sells the best vegan cupcakes I’ve tried!(That’s compared to Georgetown and Baked & Wired.) They have a couple of vegan options that change seasonally and daily, in comparison to a lot of other places which mainly just have one, if any(I know Georgetown only has two vegan cakes which it alternates daily.) The best cupcake I’ve tried here is the vegan chai latte one, which I am so happy about because I love chai and also because I love that it’s not just a vegan version of a plain flavor like chocolate or vanilla.

I stopped in here on a visit to Richmond and was pleased with the presentation of the cupcakes in the store as well as the cute bakery arrangement itself. I also liked that they had a theme every week for cupcake flavors, and that week it was ice cream flavors! They also had a signature flavor menu that they offer all the time. I was not that impressed with the cupcakes themselves. They were on the smaller side and the icing was a little too rich for my liking. However, I did highly enjoy the hummingbird cupcake, which resembled carrot cake with pineapple bits. It was worth trying, but I wouldn’t need to come again.

These girls are the finest dessert makers in Richmond. Sure, I may be a little biased, but in terms if sheer quality, you can’t beat it. With new and innovative flavors every week, Carytown Cupcakes is always worth stopping in. I was thrilled about the Elvis cupcake during Fathers Day weekend(peanut butter, banana and bacon) and I am more than excited for the new citrus seasonal flavors coming this week. Stop in. The staff are as sweet as the cupcakes themselves and they will be more than happy to assist you in finding that perfect little morsel to fix that sweet tooth!

Saw this place last time I was here to attend a screening at The Byrd Theater. You can’t miss it really — it just screams«Hey I’m cute!» when you drive by with it’s hot pink outside and neon cuppycake lights in the windows. Last time I was rushed after the show so I didn’t get a chance to walk Cary Town and shop but this time I came to meet up with some family for a meal and I had the chance to go inside. It wasn’t crazy busy while I was there but there was a steady stream of traffic — they had a decent selection of their siganture daily flavors as well as a few others to try. I chose to try The Hummingbird because I had already read the ingredients on the website and I LOVE pinapple, banana and cinnamon — sounded like a cinnamon muffin. I had asked a local friend about it before coming who had recommended Pearl to me instead saying these cupcakes are dry and not that good but when I got my Hummingbird home and tried it I found that it was moist, delicious and fresh. I liked the icing, it was sweet but not overpowering and you could really taste the fresh ingredients in the cupcake — banana and pinapple. It was delicious. It reminded me of a banana nut muffin and I absolutely love those. Next time I’m in the area I will probably stop in and try another flavor — my experience wasn’t bad at all and the gals behind the counter were quick, friendly and efficient. That’s all I need. I’m giving 3 stars instead of 4 because my hometown cupcake place, Bubblecake, is the absolute best ever because of the selection, display, travel packages, décor, and taste so I base everything else on that. Still — it was good!
