Sammy’s Tap & Grill

I’ve been here 16 minutes (still counting) and have yet to be acknowledged let alone place an order. Would love to comment on the food or drinks but it looks like it’s going to take awhile.

Ordered delivery. Pizza was cold, my sandwich was soggy and tasted like lunchables on wet sandwich bread, the $ 8 Caesar salad was comparable to Wendy’s $ 0.99 Caesar salad (my husband said Wendy’s tastes better!). We called to complain but it was so noisy on their end it was hard to hear and we were told to call their delivery partner because cold food wasn’t their problem. Bottom Line: Subpar food and poor customer service.

Sammy’s has existed for quite a while. Walk into the bar, and be surprised by how clean and not dilapidated that it looks. There’s $ 0.49 wings and bites on MWF with a student ID and decent drink specials. And that, mostly ends the pleasant parts of the experience.
On Wednesdays, they have $ 1 off all of their drafts. Any bar would let you do the math for yourself. Sammy’s had a rather confusing separate menu section that lists all of their drafts for $ 1 off. Our incredible server helpfully only pointed to that section and mentioned that all of the drinks are on special. She heard me explicitly say «$ 1 off all of the beers in this section? I’ll take Guinness for $ 4!» Did she bother to tell me that section already reflected the discounts? Of course not, because f me, that’s why.
I considered trying the wings, but my friend told me to get the bites. So that’s what I ordered — half lemon pepper, half extra hot. The menu suggested that you order them extra crispy, so that’s what I did. Imagine my surprise when my super genius server brought out wings instead of bites. When confronted with her mistake, she gave me a very aggressive «I asked if you wanted wings, and you said wings.» No, I said bites. Learn to use your ears. «A wise man told me don’t argue with fools. Cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who.» I decided to heed Jay Z’s sage advice.
Wing sauces were terrific. The extra hot had an incredible amount of heat and habanero seeds in the sauce. While most places do a dry rub for lemon pepper, Sammy’s combines lemon pepper with a tangy sauce. I would’ve loved these wings if they were breaded or if the menu didn’t encourage ordering them extra crispy.
Wait, you might say. Surely no place is stupid enough to encourage its customers to ask for extra crispy wings without breading them first? Sadly, there is no bounds to the stupidity at Sammy’s. My extra crispy wings were simply extra overcooked. The meat was incredibly chewy, and I was seriously done with this place. Unfortunately, as I already mentioned, the server wasn’t done screwing with me. My beer was $ 1 more than I expected. What a craptacular way to end an already terrible dining experience.
Sammy’s could be a terrific bar if the owner sold the place and the new owner fired the management, the wait staff, and the chef. As it currently stands, Sammy’s is merely mediocre on its absolute best days, and shockingly bad on its worst. I’m sure this bar will stand for many more years, and I’m sure I’ll even stumble my way back into it eventually. That doesn’t change the fact that Sammy’s Simply Sucks Spectacularly.

I ordered my wings extra crispy and they were awesome! They have great happy hour deals and is a fun place!

Any time a bar uses the auto pour spouts it screams that the owner doesn’t trust his staff! The menu is confusing because it is printed that they have specials every day… Well I’m here to tell you that its not a special if its everyday. The food taste like frozen food you can make in your microwave at home. The only reason. I’m even giving two stars is because of the location so its a great bar for students of NC STATE. Also they have a huge outdoor area with those of TVs.

One of the few places around that’s open past midnight. So decided to go here. The jalapeño poppers were pretty good with very tasty melted cheese on the inside. The pasta was left wanting and a lot of pepper and salt was needed to help make get some taste in it. Loved the unsalted fries! The ambience is good too! Oh, but the sofa type seats we sat on definitely needed repairs. They felt uncomfortable from the moment we sat on them. Don’t kno if it were just those seats or others as well.

Sssoooo to be fair, as a bills fan, I felt totally out of place initially at this Pittsburg steelers bar, however, the patrons and the server, Courtney were great! My friend was in town from FL visiting family and I suggested we check out Sammy’s as my friend Eric is a steelers fan! First things first, parking at your location kinda sucks. Once I actually parked, I was the first of our party of 5 to arrive at 1230 and was confused that there was no hostess stand. I wondered aimlessly thru the resturant scoping it out until I was able to flag down a server and ask what the deal was. We sat in the back room. We ordered a bunch of appetizers over the course of the game. The boneless buffalo bites, hands down are the BEST I have ever had! The chicken was amazing!!! We ordered 20 and bc they were so good we ended up ordering 20 more-​out of this world amazing! The nachos, however, were not so hot! We got the nachos w queso and chicken. They totally skimped on the queso. I will never again order them-​pretty disappointed! We also had potato skins which were ok. I’m not sure how, but we got a free bucket of beer which was awesome! Our server did put two extra shots on our bill that we didn’t order which she was more than willing to fix our bill, but instead we asked that she just bring us the shots-​which she gladly did-​she politely turned down the offer to take a shot with my friend. The table set up was not ideal, but we made it work. It’s def the place to be if you’re a steelers fan that’s for sure! I loved that they raffled team memorabilia and had a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ raffle with half of the proceeds going to a local charity! I’ll def be back from those boneless bites tho!

I’ll start with what’s good: their wings. I honestly really like them boneless or traditional. This is where it ends. Their outside booths are half broken (cushion) and many times messy/​sticky. Their service is slow at all times and it’s not always the wait staff. I’ve had issues with picking up food only. The last experience I had was the straw that broke the camels back. I called in an order and was told it would be ready in 20 mins. I waited the 20 before I even left the house. When I got there the guy at the bar wouldn’t acknowledge I was waiting to pickup a order because he was flirting with 2 girls who were obviously not in the middle of ordering (I have no problem waiting my turn this was not that situation). After waiting an extra 30 mins in the restaurant on top of the 20 before leaving he came out with my food. He slid it down in a tossing nonchalant manner which I did not appreciate considering the circumstance. We got into a verbal confrontation before I left very heated. I called to try and speak to a manager but the employee who I had the complaint with kept answering and hanging up when I would ask to speak to management. After an hour we got a girl who told us the owner would be in tomorrow morning. The next day I called the owner who sided with his employee and told me they didn’t need my business. I was shocked and it was the last time I’ve spent my money there. Also whenever someone I know tries to eat there I try and get them to go to ba da wings right behind it. Rather spend my money where it’s appreciated!!!

I Met some friends for a Steelers game here last night. I felt like I was at a bar on the North Shore there were so many Steelers fans! Black and yellow everywhere. Highly recommend for you Pittsburgh fans.
This place is huge with the option of indoor or patio seating. The service was very slow. Our server was overwhelmed and it looked like she had tables scattered throughout the restaurant. The first two vodkas I tried to order they don’t carry anymore or she did not know if they carried, so I settled on a Kettle One and soda. A few sips into my drink I sucked up a piece of glass through the straw into my mouth. The server came back and apologized and comped my drink. I feel like they should’ve burned their ice so no one else experienced that or worse. I don’t think they did anything about it.
On the plus side their wings are pretty bomb. Saucy and flavorful. I ordered ten wings, half lemon pepper half Sammy’s sauce with blue cheese and ranch. The Lemon pepper wings were saucy and not the typical dry rub but still tasty. It’s an extra .89 cents for dipping sauce.
I liked the ambiance of this place. The drinks were cheap and the food was good. It wasn’t an impressive first meeting but I’ll definitely check them out again in hopes they were just having an off night!

Absolutely horrific service. My party waited for an hour and a half for a bacon cheeseburger and wings. The waitress visited our table 3 times during this time assuring us that our food would come out «soon». The wings and the burger were dry as if they were sitting under the heat lamps for an extended of time. The restaurant was essentially empty: 4 parties at most for the entire visit.
To boot: the manager never came to the table. He just stood by the bar during our entire visit. I’ll never come back, needless to say.

If you’re looking for a sports bar with ok food and ok service you found it. But I will say I’m sitting here now and have had one beer and the reception has gone out twice due to a storm. I’d do yourself a favor and call an audible for another sports bar before coming in the door. Sorry Sammy.

Decent bar food. I love the fries, the burgers not so much (meat is really chewy). Service is spotty, waited 15 minutes before the waitress came out to tell me they were out of what I ordered. Lots of TVs. Seems a bit dirty, but I guess that’s to be expected from a college bar. They do have awesome beer specials on Tuesday and Thursday nights!

Went here with a group tonight. They were able to accommodate us but it took white a while for the food to come out. Waitress was great tho. Had wings which were on special for 49¢ tho had to pay for blue cheese (not homemade) and carrots. They were OK crispy but considering I ordered crispy, they could have been better. Lemmon pepper was tangy and spicy. Garlic parmesan was good wit real parmesan on top.

Not awful but not great. Had a small Cali White pizza and it was good. Friend ordered the wings and fries which weren’t the best I’ve ever had. The bartender was friendly but the margarita he served up wasn’t stellar. Although I wouldn’t say not to try this restaurant, I probably won’t be back.

We usually love coming here, have for 9 – 10 years but tonight was horrible. Our waitress was new but she did okay for her first week. My husband ordered wings extra crispy, they came out not extra crispy and cold. When he sent them back the exact same order were refried and sent back to him. We know this because one of the wings was broken and had a bone sticking out and was sill in the same order. He then asked to speak to a manager who did not come over but, instead the wings were just removed off of the bill. My husband did not eat. The sweet potato fries came out cold in the middle, and another guest did not receive his fries until he was through with his meal.
My husband ended up going up and talking to the manager directly and they gave him a $ 20 gift card to help rectify the situation, however it was still not a good overall experience. had a new order been brought out initially, or the manager actually come the first time when they were asked to. We would not of had a problem at all.

Watch the Duke game and was great. The waitresses help each other out, clean place. When customers left a waitress was cleaning up the table right away, and wiped the tables with a clean spray and not a used rag, but a clean paper towel. No germs left behind. Thanks again Sammy.

Ahh, Sammy’s. This place is the embodiment of a college sports bar. Everything you expect is what you’ll definitely get. The food isn’t incredible but it’s not bad at all, either. Just brew and food that’ll hit the spot.
I’ve been here a couple times, and only for the wings. On MWF (after 9), they have 49¢ wings (w/​a student ID), which is a crazy good deal for hungry college students! The wings aren’t the best, but they satisfy any cravings you have, and in great quantity. Also, ranch/​blue cheese/​carrots/​celery are extra.
Besides that, they have your basic bar grub. They also have beer towers and an extensive bar menu.
Bring your group here if you’re lookin’ to kick back and relax with solid food/​drinks.

I stay not far from here, and I freaking LOVE Sammy’s, yo. Their garlic Parmesan wings are amaaaaaa-​ZING! SUCH a savory, deep, good flavor, and they sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top while they’re still hot, which is a nice touch.
If you get saucy wings, though, definitely try them extra crispy. (They won’t be overcooked. Or at least, they shouldn’t be — they’re almost always not, and I’m big on NOT overcooking food, thanks.) The second best flavor, in my opinion, is sweet-​hot, which is like a mildly spicy sweet BBQ, but a little thinner than actual BBQ sauce.
They have a nice little selection of beers on tap, getting a new and interesting one to try from time to time. And they’re fine with letting you taste them in order to decide what you’ll order.
The bartenders are friendly, very cool, laidback, and reasonably social. They don’t over-​talk you, but they don’t ignore you. I like a nice balance because I don’t always want to have a conversation just because I’m sitting «at the bar»!
I’m not too sure about the waitresses. There’s one with back-​length dirty blonde hair, short, and rather pudgy, who always has a gruff demeanor, never looks you straight in the eye, and never comes over to see how she can help you. Maybe she’s a supervisor or something, but. no need for the ‘tude. If you don’t want to interact with customers, stay in the back?
One time I went there and the bartender working ducked into the back as soon as he saw me come through the door. I went to right were the kitchen door is and stood. I’m 6-​feet tall, so hard to miss. The small waitress was DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME and looked at what seemed to be a spot beyond my torso, EVEN AS I WAS TRYING TO «GET HER ATTENTION» to place a to-​go order.

Other than this one negative experience, I’ve had great times at Sammy’s and I love to visit regularly. I need to lay off the wings, «midsection» wise, but… I can’t. They’re just too dang addicting.
Oh yeah — and they also have $ 3 Red Oak and other lagers on Tuesdays, I believe. (Call to confirm.)

The only reason I give this place two stars is because of the televisions and the outdoor patio. I can tell that the apps were all frozen, and then dropped into the fryer. I could almost tell that this place was much more concerned about sports than food as soon as I walked through the door. It’s unfortunate because it could be a really cool spot.
This deserves a point of it’s own… The décor is horrendous. Zebra???
I won’t be returning unless forced to in a big group of people.

Philly cheese steak was great, that’s 2 for 2 on our visits here. Valerie did a great job taking care of us. Other items ordered today were chicken salad sandwich, Texas burger, and Alec rode my coat tails and also had the Philly cheese steak. We all also enjoyed the hand cut fries! Doing a great job guys, of course we will be back!
