The Market

My wife and I are on our way out of Portland, OR and my wife decides to purchase a neck pillow for the flight home. We step into The Market which has pillows 2 for $ 20, a typical price for such pillows. My wife selects a pillow and we pick up a few souvenirs and head to the cash register.
Out of the blue the cashier asks if I was in the military, this surprised me because I’ve never thought of Portland as a military town, besides, I have a full beard going on, anyway, I say yes and show her my retired Army ID card. I did noticed that the final price was a bit lower than expected but didn’t pay it much mind until much later when I took a close look at the receipt; this place has a 20% military discount! I can’t get that much of a discount in some military towns so this was a pleasant surprise!
With zero tax and being a duty-​free shop, a Vet could save quite a bit by doing his/​her souvenir shopping at The Market!
Oh, as it turns out, it was my USAA debit card that tipped the cashier off to our military status. .. Go team USAA!

YIKES! Rude cashier woman on 10/​15/​2014, around 5 pm, seems like she hates her job. Took several items to cash register to pay for but on one of the items I didn’t see a price so I asked her what the cost was, she looked at it, turned it around then pointed to small lettering I couldn’t see, so I asked does it have the price, she didn’t say anything just pointed and I told her I couldn’t see the price since I would have had to put my reading glasses with lettering that small, she tells me the price and I say, Ok no thanks, and she seems very irritated and rings up the rest, but expects me to carry several items in my hand while I also have luggage, so I ask her for a bag, completely irritated gets a bag and hands it to me but because I was too slow, since I was putting my credit card back in my wallet she bagged it very unhappily — this is all without ever saying one word, no hello, no thank you… nothing but me asking her for the price she did talk. I come here for work twice a month and have never encountered someone so rude at a counter, everyone always seems super friendly and customer service oriented, not this time. I bought snacks for my flight home and a couple of other things, will use another place next time.

Good selection of vegan goodies for an international flight, including trail mix, candied ginger, Sabra hummus, Moonstruck chocolate, and vegan wraps from Elephants Deli. Score!

4 stars for carrying local beers and Elephants Deli items But, otherwise an average airport mini market.
Note: D Concourse has Kobos (local roaster) Coffee. Small patron seating area to consume alcohol.
Prices here are not bad but not «off airport» because such a thing doesn’t exist. Browse nearby Powells for local treasure.
