I love Portland Button Works!!! We have ordered buttons through them for our small business 3 times and plan on using them for many more orders in the future. They are fast and do a fabulous job! The buttons always look so good! I am always happily surprised at how quickly the order is ready. I love supporting a small business that does rad things and is in my neighborhood. Pretty cool spot to make custom buttons(individually and large orders) and get zines in North Portland. It’s nice to see something on the North side of town that has rad these resources. It’s super accessible by the Yellow line and by the 72 bus line. Inside the space is open with button makes in the middle and zines on the walls. The zine selection is pretty extensive and of course contains the DIY classic Cometbus as well as local titles. The folks who run it are pretty rad/friendly too. They accept card but i think prefer cash. I went in without expecting to get anything but came away with4 zines and a few buttons. I will definitely be back in the future!

Almost a year ago exactly my friend gave me a button with Tina Fey on it. «Where did you get this?!» I exclaimed. «I made it,» she replied I gawked at it and envied her for having access to a button maker. A year later, Portland Button Works has appeared and granted my wish to make my own Tina Fey buttons. Oh, what fun! There’s much more to this place than the name might lead you to believe. While buttons are there to be bought, ordered, or even made by you on a whim in person at the store, they also carry a wide selection of zines. I’ve only been there one time and I’m already feeling very inspired to read more zines. Finally a place in Portland with awesome zines that I can get to without crossing a bridge or those pesky streetcar tracks. The fifth quadrant of this city has been waiting for a place like this to open for a while now. If you’re not fortunate enough to live nearby, then have no fear as it’s just a block or so off the Killingsworth Max stop. Besides having a really nice selection of zines and buttons, the store itself feels very welcoming and cozy. There are benches to sit on inside that seem to be created from recycled materials, and I believe most of the shelving has been made from pallets. In the center of the store sits an island with a few button makers on it, beckoning for you to make your own. In addition to the awesome space, the folks who run the store are really welcoming and eager to answer questions or chat about zines. I am very excited for this new addition to the neighborhood and the future buttons to be made!
