I normally visit the location on 82nd which I love(its very large and airy). I came to this location because it is alot closer to me and was dissapointed that they did not offer their avocado smoothies here. This is the only place I ever order Phở any more! I will continue to drive to 82 for it!

Delicious fresh tasting food that is worth the price. Nice atmosphere and staff. I like the lemongrass chicken.

We walked here after having ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s as apparently they’ve shut down. After 8 years, their lease is over and they are no longer in business. I loved their nem nuong salad rolls here and was craving it. Sad to see it go.

Closed after 8 years, they might’ve stayed longer if they had the same menu as their sister location off 82nd. This one was catered to American tastes and was just awful. No wonder why they shut down

It took a minute to get some menus, but they did come eventually. FINALLY… some really decent Vietnamese food in Portland. Now that I’ve found it I’ll be back, but I will say this… hostess, maybe you’re new to hospitality, but when customers specifically ask for something i.e., the sauce rack… you should never, never ask for it back. You take it back when you’re clearing off the table after the customers have left, that’s how it works. That said, the actual wait service being rendered as was the food, at long last wonderful.

While the ambiance and vibe inside the restaurant is stellar, the food-to-dollar ratio is super disappointing. I got take-out here yesterday, paid nearly $ 17 for a simple combo of the beef salad, salad rolls, and an iced coffee, and though this is way more than I’d typically pay for lunch, this is one of my busiest work weeks and I figured I’d splurge, and that it would be worth it since this play is way nicer than most Vietnamese take-out I usually get! Unfortunately, the salad was miniature and completely devoid of substance, and though the salad rolls were hefty and well-made, the peanut sauce was totally mediocre. The iced coffee WAS delicious, but for $ 3.95 I would think that it should be! I’m bummed to have to give this such a low rating because this place is right in my hood and somewhere I’d like to have on my go-to takeout list when I don’t have time to pack a lunch for work. Hopefully I just hit them on an off-day.

It is good, but not the best phở in Portland. they have a good seafood soup and the wanton soup is good as well.

Let’s get it out of the way: don’t come here. Unless, of course, you’re interested in over-priced, unsatisfying, white-washed phở in a town with a plethora of better tasting and priced options. Picked up some phở to go for the sick girlfriend and I to nurse us back to health. Perhaps that was our undoing and dining in provides better quality food. I don’t know and I don’t care because I’m not going back. Here’s why: I went with their #20 Bún o Bien, a Vermicelli-based phở advertised as «medium spicy lemongrass soup with shrimp, calamari, fish, and mussels.» Technically, I guess that’s all true. But I’ve got serious problems when I can easily count each of those seafood items. For those interested, the magic number is 2 — that is, 2 of each of those aforementioned pieces of seafood. It’s clear that they’re counting out what you get in each bowl of the #20. What’s also clear is that they don’t seem to give a shit about the quality of their shrimp, calamari, fish, mussels, or broth. I’m a huge phở fan and understand that there’s inevitably going to be variances, but this shit was so bland Englanders would be proud. Tack on the price — I forget, $ 8? $ 10? Whatever, it doesn’t matter. Ask any Vietnamese friend, and anything past $ 6 is over-priced — and I was left feeling unsatisfied enough to write a negative review.

Met a few friends here for a belated Bday dinner and had a good time. The phở was great, atmosphere is welcoming, with a very friendly staff and adequate service. It is also an extremely reasonable price for the area!

Honestly I only go here because it’s so close to where I live. But on the plus side, I’ve liked every dish I’ve had, except their phó.

The only Phở Van location i care to go to. I always get the Duck Noodle Soup. It comes with vermicelli and bamboo shoots in a good broth. In addition to a duck salad. Its very refreshing and healthy at the same time. My favorite!

I recently ordered some delicious and beautiful Phở for lunch here. My friend had a grilled meat combo(sorry, I do not remember the name) that looked fantastic as well. This place is really nicely decorated and clean and the staff are seriously some of the friendliest people working on Hawthorne street. I had a chance to chat with them a little while waiting for my friend to show up. Lots of other great sounding things on the menu I need to try. I will return soon!

Damn tasty and comfortable. The staff is always super nice and happy to answer any questions. My partner’s gluten intolerant & dairy free — phở in general is pretty gluten friendly, but was still nice to have knowledgeable and helpful staff when it came to a first timer trying it out.

Came here off a recommendation from a friend. It’s a very clean and pretty decorated phở place compared to what I’m used to. The menu is pretty standard with your usual Vietnamese food. I got the large phở with everything in it and it was pretty good. Decently sized for a large bowl but not super big. The tripe was good as well as some of the other meats inside. The broth was decent as well, flavorful but not banging awesome. Service here was good, fast and polite. It was a good option for something fast! Overall a good place and would come again!

What is good here: the green papaya salad, the phở, the crispy spring rolls, the seafood soup. What is bad here: the tofu soup. Don’t be creative like me and order Vietnamese coffee without the condensed milk. You have been warned.

The best mi quang, a wide noodle soup that originated in Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam, is found at Ha & Vl on Southeast 82nd Avenue in Portland. However, Phở Van also serves an excellent version. Their version features thinner rice noodles soaked in turmeric in a spicy broth filled with shrimp. pork, fish cakes and diced jicama. Like that at Ha & Vl, it comes topped with peanuts and a sesame rice cracker, along with a lime wedge and various Vietnamese herbs. Delicious.

I went here with a friend. She is not a phở eater but I am! We ordered the crispy spring rolls. They were a little too bready for me but the insides were good. I did have to ask for extra lettuce to wrap them. The fish sauce/dipping sauce was really tasty. I ordered the #15. There was soooo much meat, I couldn’t believe it. The broth was delicious. There was not an over abundance of noodles either. I got the small bowl. Average price around town. My main complaint is the service. My friend had to ask for silverware(she is not adept with chopsticks) I also had to ask more than once for a refill on my water. My friend was only offered a refill on her soda at the end when the waitress was clearing off the table. I think I will stick with the phở place next to Fubon!

I’ve only been here twice but I fully intend to come back. I really enjoyed the vegetarian spring roll salad thing they’ve got going on here. It’s huge and I can never finish it. The service is awesome. The wait staff is always really nice and refilling drinks before they are even half empty. The prices aren’t bad. for an animal friendly meal at a nicer place like this… 8 $ or so. Really cheap. I’m not a huge Phở fan but my man loves the stuff… Phở Van is the place I prefer when we go out for Phở.

Love this place. Excellent phở(I get the Tai Nam Gau) especially when kicked up with lots of plum sauce and Sriracha, good service and the prices are pretty cheap for a giant bowl. Whenever I’m out on Hawthorne, I like to come by for lunch or dinner. There are also several non-phở entrees(including vegetarian-friendly ones) that come in huge portions and are really tasty. A great option on a block of several good restaurants. I always enjoy coming to Phở Van.

The air conditioning is outstanding in this location. However, be forewarned their menu is smaller than at the location on 82nd. I was going to order the drink with condensed milk, beans and tapioca, but they don’t carry it at the Hawthorne location. Now I know why Harlow always insists we eat at the 82nd St. spot. I ordered the Vietnamese sausage, which comes with the full array of sides: basil, sprouts, green onions, vermicelli noodles and those rice wraps you dip into the vase of hot water and burn your fingers to soften up. It comes with peanut sauce. I run hot and cold with peanut sauce. Sometimes I love it, but then sometimes I don’t. The Vietnamese sausage itself was rather just OK. I didn’t like it’s flavor so much. Finally, the plate also came with two shrimp wrapped in rice paper and deep-fried. BTW, the honey-chicken wings were as awesome as always!
