This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in South Florida. It’s a small restaurant, it’s reasonably priced and the food is outstanding. I’ve been here a couple of times now and the service was good both times. My had a tuna and avocado salad to start. I don’t like tuna but it looked really good. We also had the grilled squid, it was tender and very tasty. For dinner we had two of rolls, a salmon skin and a tuna roll. It was one of the best salmon skin rolls I have ever had. My wife told the tuna role was wonderful. What I enjoyed the most was the shrimp and noodle dish. Looking forward to going back here again for dinner.

It is so so good! been here several times and will keep coming back for different menu items. I am not a fan of raw sushi, so I have tried several of the cooked ones and loved them all. my friends had the raw sushi and they said it was great as well. the fried gyoza appetizer is a must for me! goes very well with the rest of the meal. it’s a small place so it can get busy, but I’ve never had to wait longer than 10 mins. the service is excellent very nice and helpful. recently tried the Sapporo beer and liked it a lot, it’s a smooth taste if that makes any sense

I came here and hoped for an out of this world Japanese cuisine experience. Honestly, compared with the other Japanese restaurants in the area, it’s more or less the same. I liked how it’s clean, cozy, and the service was impeccable. Otherwise, I can’t really say too much about the cuisine other than it is something satisfying if you’re craving sushi/Japanese food and are in the area. The spicy garlic edamame was the only dish I really enjoyed. I ordered chirashi and the fish was fresh but scarce; I’ve had better with better prices. My brother ordered a bento box and it was a HUGE portion, so I feel that the bento box is definitely worth the money!

This review is for take-out, but I plan on coming in to eat after work one evening! The pokeball was very good, if you love sashimi this is definitely for you! The dinner sashimi is expensive compared to some other places, but it’s a big portion and it comes with miso soup or salad, I chose the miso, which was yummy as well. The girl ordered two rolls, and she devoured them both. The woman who took care of my order was extremely nice and accommodating, making sure everything was in the bag and wishing me good morrow! Like I said, I’ll definitely be back!

This place is so great all around! My family normally starts off with the pork belly and yellow tail tadaki appetizer!(The pork belly isn’t on the official menu, but it is definitely a must try!) And then as entrees, we order miso ramen, dragon rolls, pork Katsu and an Una Don. Also, if you are done eating your food and you still have some room for some dessert, I highly recommend Thai Doughnuts! It’s a simple Asian dessert, that is a balled up piece of fried dough that is drizzled with condensed milk. It’s very simple, but it tastes amazing! This place has great flavors and great service! The restaurant facility is very small and does not hold many people, but it is delicious!!!

This place was ok. I might come back if I’m in the area but will probably keep looking for a better place. I liked the tuna poke, hurricane roll, and spicy lovers roll. I did NOT like the beef tartar(awful flavor), uni(not fresh), katsudon(weird egg scramble), rock n roll(bad shrimp on top), or the donuts(my kids did) ATALL! I’m kind of confused why it has such high ratings but to each their own. $ 80 and dissatisfied…

4-star rating on the quality of sushi/sashimi only. Otherwise this place is 5 stars. Service has always been great and everyone is warm and welcoming. All of the hot food has been great. Ramen is good for this area, but definitely not the best I’ve had. I’d say the same for the sushi. Try some of the more exotic specials that they have as these do not disappoint. Great local spot for Japanese style grub if you are not able to travel a little further.

This is my go to for ramen in Pembroke Pines! If you crave warm, spicy, tasty goodness then the kimchee ramen is highly recommended. Sushi-wise I enjoy the yellowtail roll and the spicy tuna lover roll. The food is fresh and tasty, the restaurant is clean, and the staff is attentive and courteous. I usually call in advance for take-out, as they get pretty busy even on Thursday nights. This is a testament to their quality of food! One thing to note is that they are a hidden fairly well in the Walmart plaza — I would’ve never found them if it wasn’t for a recommendation from my sexy beast of a boyfriend.

Checked out this place one night with a few friends to catch up and was pleasantly surprised. The place had a really fun atmosphere, it was busy but not overcrowded and we were seated pretty quickly. I had the Curry Udon and enjoyed every second of it. They said it was a little spicy but I didn’t find it spicy at all, just all around delicious.

Found this gem on Unilocal when my daughter and I were craving some oriental flavors. It seems that I had it bookmarked for quite a while and since I am always in the never ending job of clearing my bookmarks, I stopped over for dinner. This place was full on a Thursday evening at around 8:30. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. The server was polite and came around often. Mikan is hidden by the Walmart on Pines Blvd and Flamingo. I would have never found it if it not had been for Unilocal.Yey! Seafood Soup– $ 10 Loaded, yes! Fresh, yes! Simply delicious, yes! You know something is good when you actually want to take leftovers home for your family to try it. I had to save some for my dad lol. It was very light but still had lots of natural flavors. Not overly seasoned. The carrots and mushrooms were fresh. The presence of the salmon, scallop and white fish was there. The presentation was also very nice. I love the bowl they used. It comes out extremely hot and they cover it to keep it that way. I was very pleased. YAKIUDON $ 13– Stir-fried noodles with vegetables and shrimp. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. Not soggy or drenched in sauce. The shrimp was cooked right too! I was very happy, and so was my daughter. She picked this dish and had a smile from ear to ear. Again, not overly seasoned with the heavy Asian flavors. Just seasoned with the actual ingredients and sauce that it was prepared with. The carrots were my favorite here again! DAVEROLL $ 12– Spicy tuna, scallion, and tempura flakes topped with eel, masago, and eel sauce. Very good. The spicy tuna was cut generously and the eel sauce was not overpowering. Shrimp tempura roll– My daughter is exploring the world of sushi so this was her first try. She doesn’t understand the«cold rice» concept of it yet lol. This was simple. I would return. I mentioned this place to Andrea G. And she didn’t know about it. This is a well kept secret Pines, I will do my best to keep it :)

Well, yes, I’m a fan & yes I will absolutely return. But for my first experience here, it was just okay and a disappointing. One thing I can say for certain is that the staff is extremely attentive, more so than other sushi restaurants I’ve been to. Me and Leanna J ordered our usual shrimp shumai, but they were nothing to write home about. However my miso soup was delicious! The best I can say I’ve had. We also ordered crab Rangoon and it was my favorite appetizer, not overly done with cream cheese and authentic crab. It was excellent. I ordered the Dave Roll and the Bagel Roll. I really enjoyed the Dave Roll because it came with sliced eel on top which I’ve never had but it was an excellent combination and the salmon in the roll was a bit spicy which gave it a good kick. The Bagel roll was really good as well, with cream cheese salmon and avocado, you can tell that the fish was fresh. However, they must’ve rolled one of my rolls on plastic and forgot to take the wrapping off the bottom so my roll had some plastic on it, thankfully I caught it but can you imagine if I didn’t? I think they were just in a rush and I’ll give them that but I told the waitress and she apologized but that was it. Definitely put a damper on my experience. So in the grand scheme of things, I enjoyed my sushi and so did everyone else. Our service was above average and the food was fresh. I would definitely come back but I don’t think it would be anytime soon. The plastic on my sushi kind of did me under, but I recognize good and fresh sushi when I taste it.

I was sat immediately and the service was good from beginning to end. Everything tasted delicious, we ordered the spicy tuna nachos with avocado as an appetizer. Following that we had two sushi rolls and a spicy ramen noodle soup(don’t remember the exact name) but it was a very very large in portion, enough to share amongst 2 – 3 people. I will be returning here in the future.

I came here one night for dinner with freinds and we had a great time! I ordered the dragon roll and the thai donuts for dessert. The dragon roll was a shrimp tempura roll with avocado. It was good but I felt like it needed more flavor. I was particulary looking for a roll that had shrimp tempura, avocado, and salmon on top but they didnt have that :( The thai donus were reallyyyy good I could eat two orders of those on my own hehe! The service and atomosphere are great. Our server was able to answer all my questions and she was very kind. A+ for service. The restaurant is small and cozy with a very relaxing atmosphere. If your ever in the area you should definitely come check them out.

YUMMMMMM! Fresh sushi & noodles, sign me up! After countless invitation to try Mikan I finally caved in & stopped by; I wasn’t disappointed. A small but quaint spot located off Pines Blvd, I was able to get seated on a Saturday night in about 20 mins. The waitresses know the menu VERY well & answered my questions precisely which is key for me whenever Im trying out something Ive never had. On this visit I ordered the Crunchy Salmon roll(or something of that nature) it was $ 7& by far one of the freshest tasting rolls Ive ever experienced in my short life span. As a main dish(because the first meal is ALWAYS an appetizer) I ordered the Kimchee Ramen. The following is MY take on the ramen: WOWZERS! Spicyyyyyyyyyy but delicious. Large enough to feed a small village but there is absolutely NOTHING lacking in that bowl. I felt like every ingredient in the kitchen was in my bowl of ramen as I took bite after bite… I won’t lie, there was a point I felt like it was too much, but Im no punk & I finished that monster of a soup. Needless to say, I didn’t order dessert… not because I didn’t want to but because I was so full I started to hate myself. All in all, Mikan is a must. Highly satisfied & left with a full belly.

Staff is super friendly, quick and upbeat. Well priced. BEST Japanese(and possibly best restaurant overall) in this neighborhood.

This was my third or fourth time at Mikan and I must say it is quite possibly one of the most authentic Japanese one can get this side of west pines! This time around me and the gf shared two appetizers: pork belly and salmon kama miso. The pork belly came out boiled in a small bowl with about 4 – 5 pieces and costed $ 4. It was kind of awkward appetizer, due to the way it is cooked you would want to eat it with rice or noodles but it tasted good nonetheless but probably wouldn’t order it again unless I’m getting ramen or a side of rice. Salmon Kama miso is basically the«collar» of the salmon cooked with a miso paste seasoning. The kama we had that night was very meaty and was a satisfying appetizer. For $ 5 I would call this a deal and if you love fish like I do go for it! Next we have the entrees. The past few times I came here I ordered the chicken katsu curry but tonight I was tempted by the sushi menu. I ordered a dragon roll and the gf had a volcano roll. Now if you’re a sushi noob let me just say these are two rolls that are required by law to be served in a restaurant before they are allowed to be declared as Japanese. Of course I just lied to you but these rolls are pretty much a guarantee in any Japanese restaurant in the United States. I’ve had my fair share of dragon rolls in my lifetime but I must say this one stood out. First of all when you receive it you’ll notice it’s not the monstrous roll you are used to receiving in other restaurants. It’s 10 pieces but each piece doesn’t look like a giant wad of rice with some fried stuffing. When you eat that first piece of sushi you know that this place is different from the rest, the shrimp tempura actually tasted like shrimp and not just fried glob! The volcano roll is usually a California roll topped with mixed seafood. At other restaurants the mixed seafood looks like a mermaids throw up but at Mikan you can actually identify and taste the pieces of scallops that they top the roll with. Those scallops melted in my mouth like butter on a baked potato. Lastly, I’ll comment on the environment. The service was great, our waitress was super friendly. The ambience in the restaurant feels more like you’re in a upscale restaurant in south beach as opposed to being in a Japanese restaurant in west pines. The music isn’t annoying pop music played at an unnecessary volume. It’s an overall good vibe. I definitely look forward to going back to try out more of their sushi!

I was disappointed when Akuna went out of business. I now had to find a new place to get my sushi fix. I tried another local place but the sushi tasted like it wasn’t fresh and the servers were extremely rude. Then someone told me about this little gem so of course I had to try it. This is a small little place located in a Publix plaza. The staff was extremely friendly, plesent, and accommodating. The sushi was fresh and delicous. My husband ordered the special fired rice and loved it. My child had the shrimp dumplings and a California roll and ate every last bit. The prices are reasonable and dessert is yummy too. The only down side is that they do not have a large variety of rolls but they are more than willing to accomidati you if you ask.

I had the kimchi ramen and it was so yummy! They serve a very good portion that has pork belly, bean sprouts, half a hard boiled egg, mushrooms and of course kimchi! The only thing I’d add is more pork belly :) I also ordered the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer. We went on Dec 30th and it was rather busy and only had two servers working. The restaurant is pretty small but cozy. When our large group of 7 were seated, I was glad to notice that the waitress was very attentive and quick considering the full house. The only complaint I really have is that our sushi and sashimi was pretty warm when we received it. warm raw fish :/no good to eat but I didn’t get sick: D… Hopefully if I come back on a day it’s not too busy the sushi will be served quicker.

I’m very simple when it comes to Japanese, so I ordered what I was comfortable with and got the teriyaki and white rice. Pleasantly fresh and full of flavor. Loved the salad as well. The environment was very intimate and had an oriental ambiance. However, I didn’t appreciate how ALL of the waitresses stood by our table of five and watched us eat. It was very awkward and uncomfortable.

After living in the area for 3 years and not even so much as noticing Mikan once, I was excited to think that there was a sushi spot with a near perfect rating just minutes from home. I’ve had several of the rolls here and there isn’t anything to write home about. The quality of fish is actually pretty good for the price. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be afraid to order a sashimi plate here if I was craving it. It seems the real attraction here is the ramen/udon bowls. On my second visit I noticed most of the patrons went with the hot food, lots of bento boxes and udon bowls, and it looked pretty good. For now I give it a solid 3 stars, but I’ll be sure to go back and update my review after trying the bowls.

My girlfriend and I came here on a Saturday night and we were able to grab a booth before the evening dinner rush. Our server was quick to arrive at our table and offer us water, and I eventually settled on the Sapporo to drink. Despite being a light beer it was very flavorful and satisfying! For my entrée I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon ramen. First thing I noticed was the size! Don’t be discouraged from getting the ramen due to the price, this isn’t your cheap 99¢ ramen. You are served a massive bowl filled with chicken, egg, shrimp tempura, crab, and and assortment of vegetables. I wasn’t even able to finish mine due to it being so large, but fortunately I was able to get the rest to-go. The ramen was absolutely delicious, and was one of the better ramen I’ve had in my life. For desert we got the thai donuts, which were warm and just sweet enough, served with a sweet condensed milk sauce. Overall, our experience was amazing and we will definitely return here in the future for more.

This was the first time I have ever been here and I can see why it has such great reviews. First off, it is small so be prepared that Saturday you might have a bit of a wait. Somehow my boyfriend and I managed to squeeze in right before the rush, but despite that the service is prompt and very friendly. There isn’t a host/ess, so you just have to find an open table but our waitress came right over to give us menus. She brought us out water and took our order promptly, it does take a while since it is sushi but everything is super fresh. Prices are also really fair for all items on the menu, so you’re not gonna be overcharged. I had a beer and a sushi bento box, the box has different prices but does come standard with California rolls, gyoza, salad, and tempura shrimp. Though if you opt for the sushi box you will get 3 nigiri in place of the Cali roll, mine were the standard 3 you see. I had shrimp, tuna and salmon, all fresh and very tasty. But if you aren’t a fan of that, I would opt for some of the other plates they have or let your server know. While you may think it doesn’t have a lot, the box is packed and everything is delicious. I opted for tuna for my sushi rolls and I was so pleased, my tempura shrimp were generous and my salad was perfect. The box also comes with a miso soup, which was pretty standard but came out piping hot so that was a plus. We finished dinner with Thai doughnuts which were fried to perfection. Our dinner came out to about 47 before tip, but we were extremely satisfied when we left. I for sure recommend since the food is delicious, service is excellent, good sized portions, and it’s just a great local place all around.

OMG! Who knew that this little hidden gem would be so good? Evidently Unilocalers did! We went on a Saturday at about 7pm and it was busy. Not so crazy that we didn’t have a place to sit, but busy enough that we sat at the bar. We ate… a lot. My husband was excited to see kimchi on the appetizer list… he gobbled it up. We also got the grilled squid. Tender. Delicious. I had the tuna avocado salad. The waitress made sure we knew it was raw. I am sure someone probably sent it back thinking it was cooked. It was absolutely delicious. It had a light lemon dressing that just made the salad. The tuna was super fresh. I also had a fried bagel roll. I only ordered it fried because my husband doesn’t like raw fish and knew I wouldn’t be able to finish it. My husband had a chicken udon dish. It was delicious. The kitchen and the sushi chefs aren’t synced up, so his dish arrived much later than mine… not a deal breaker since we basically shared everything. We ended with tempura bananas. The ice cream was creamy and the bananas are light. Can’t wait to go back!

I’m sorry Mikan. If I ever have the chance to come back, I will change my rating when I have tried more of your food. But as of now, my 3 stars stand. I came in with my mom to try a new Japanese place. Based on the reviews, I was quite excited and expecting a lot from this restaurant. I ordered a sashimi bento which cost $ 13! It came with a small green salad, a miso soup, two gyozas, and a choice of a roll: salmon, tuna, or California. That’s it. Though the sashimi slices were bigger than usual. I feel that I didn’t get my money’s worth. The portions were way too small. I have had better quality Japanese food at other places that are«inauthentic» for a way better price. My advice for the restaurant. Add a complementary bowl of white rice and some sort of tempura with the bento lunch special. Or lower the price please!

I came to Pembroke Pines for the annual car services, after looked up on Unilocal what is good around here, I decided to come to this Japanese restaurant as I read from many other Unilocalers that this is a Japanese owned authentic place. I arrived at 2:40pm, 20 mins before the place usually closes. Since it was a bit rush, I decided to order sushi since it is the fastest. The waitress is awesome, I was planning to order the sushi and sashimi for 1 for 25 dollars, but she told me that there is a similar lunch special for only 14 dollars and I should order that, and she said she can exchange the complimentary California roll in the menu to salmon roll for me. What a great and considerate service! As for the food, as you can see from my photo that the platter was in good size. Everything was really fresh, and the chef was very generous in putting fish inside the roll. But unfortunately, all this felt a bit rush and I can’t really enjoy the food or order something that takes time to prepare. But overall, it was great experience and I would definitely come back to try more things! 85⁄100

Why must I live 40+ mins away from Pines? And why are you closed on Mondays? I crave your Spicy Crunchy Roll so much, I came back up on a Monday night.(More accurately, why didn’t I check Unilocal for their hours of op before trekking my way to Pines? lol) Came here a week ago with the boy, and absolutely looooved everything we tried. Our orders and thoughts: APPETIZERS *** Pokeball: Definitely refreshing; of the 5 dishes we ordered, this was our 2nd most favorite dish. If you’re looking for an app, please try this! :D *** Tuna Yukke: The boy and I are salmon fans, so we asked if they could sub out the tuna for salmon, and our server was completely cool with it :) No extra charge! This was spicy and yum, but we def preferred the Pokeball’s flavor. MAINS *** Spicy Crunchy Roll: Please. Get. This. This is a rice roll, rolled in masago, wrapped around spicy salmon and tempura flakes(maybe some other stuff, too). Holy moly, the flavor of the roll is ridiculously tasty. This is what I crave now when I think of sushi rolls, lol! I have finally found something that replaces my love for Moon’s Four Seasons roll. The explosion of flavor once this touches your tongue(esp if you’re a fan of salmon AND you like those crispy, crunchy tempura flakes) will make you want to never look at another sushi roll again. At least, that’s how I feel — lol. The boy and I split all the dishes, and we had to fight over the last roll(even though it was an even 8 pieces — lol! He wanted my last roll! I had to fight him off with my chopsticks.) *** Katsu don: Okay, so one of our fav katsu don’s is Sushi Ko’s katsu don. And I have to say that this is on par with theirs. The flavor is perfect — neither over salted or overly sweet. :D The breaded pork is also perf, and the flavor of the rice, once everything is combined, is mmmmm! DESSERT *** Green Tea Ice Cream: Forgot to mention that we ordered the GTIC. Any time there’s matcha/green tea flavored ice cream(or any dessert, really), I must try it. Alas, I’m still on the hunt for my holy grail of matcha ice creams, lol. This was good, but light on the green tea flavor. :) I like it when the matcha is strong(not the floral kind, too). So if you’re like me, skip this — or taste for yourself! :) OFFTHEMENU They have a couple boards by the main door that display other items you can order that aren’t explicitly on the menu. :) We tried the $ 4 pork belly, and though it was tasty, it wasn’t anything super special. The boy felt he could have made something similar, so that isn’t something we’d order again. Something we ordered came with a soup or salad selection. Chose the salad, which was refreshing and crisp(no wilty leaves, whoo!). The ginger dressing was also delish. Everything we tried was delicious, honestly. The boy and I liked this place so much we drove all the way back up yesterday(Monday night). Sadly, for us, we weren’t aware that they are closed on Mondays. So. be aware that they are closed on Mondays! :’(Don’t get your hopes up the way we did, only to feel your heart break(and your stomach cry) that they’re closed — lol.(Nuuuu, my spicy crunchy roll… we will meet next time!)

I love, love, love Mikan! I can’t even single out a single item on their menu because I’m never disappointed no matter what I order. My favorite so far has been the sushi for 2, you get unbelievably fresh sushi for a more than reasonable price(anyone who loves sushi knows that to get fresh, quality sushi you’d better be ready to pay up for it). We’ve had most of the sushi rolls as well as some of the soups and ramen. The soup and ramen are always served piping hot and they are constantly passing by to make sure you have a full glass of water. We always love to finish our meal with some Thai doughnuts. Not only do I love Mikan because of the quality of their food but they have ah-mazing service as well. They are all so friendly and always come over to talk and play with my son. I don’t know their names but the Filipina and blonde lady are always so kind and making sure we are enjoying our meal. It doesn’t have that typical South Florida eat and rush you out vibe which is why Mikan is my go to place when I want Japanese. I just wish they would deliver west to where I live(boo!) but it is most definitely worth the drive that I will keep making.
