Not as good since under new management. I loved the previous couple that owned it. They were welcoming, knew their regulars, and were just happy. EVERYTHING tasted great etc. Then the new couple took over, and I guess I assumed they would be using the same recipe. I was wrong. The new glazed donuts and holes taste like there is a bunch of artificial vanilla flavoring in it. It took a minute to get use to. I didn’t go too often, I would always go out of my way to Shipley’s. I decided one day that I was in a crunch for time and since this was closer, I would just go here. It was between 7:30 am and 8:00am, and I walked in, grabbed a chocolate milk, and waited in line for what seemed like forever. The man counts money extremely slowly, I could see the lady, who was waiting for her change, getting impatient. He finally finished and I stepped up, and they were basically out of everything. But like most other places, I assumed they had more in the back or something. I asked for donut holes, he said they didn’t have any. So I left the chocolate milk on the counter, and just walked out without saying anything. It was before 8am. Like seriously? I could understand if it was like 10am or something. So I will NOT be giving the place another chance. I’ll just leave home earlier to make my way to Shipley’s.

I grew up eating southern maid donuts. I remember going there before school if I woke up early enough, and then when I got older going there after a late night of hanging out. So after Krispy Kreme closed down I was stuck with Shipley’s, which is OK, but just not all that. So when I found this Souther Maid, that wasn’t too far from my house I was so there! The simple glazed are good but the glazed cake donuts are where it’s at! The Unilocal gps is off, the location is closer to 518 and Cullen.
