What an excellent place to bring friends, family, throw a bridal shower, birthday party — you name it — if you’re a wine aficionado or just enjoy a lusty red or simply sweet white — head to Wines by Jennifer, you won’t be disappointed. Set in a lovely house in quaint Platte County, a rather hilly area of northern metropolitan Kansas City it’s home to a small Christian college of probably no more than 8 – 10 beautiful stone buildings and overlooks the Missouri River with winding slopes and smaller tributaries — it’s very idyllic and I can imagine on a fine spring day nothing could be more enjoyable than to pick up some goodies at Wines by Jennifer and have a sumptuous picnic. A variety of wine flights are offered and the small staff(we were lucky to have Jennifer’s handsome son, Daniel host us that afternoon) knows their product. As we indulged in a flight that included soft reds from Spain to bustier boozy syrahs from Australia and a powerhouse from Portugal our learned instructor clearly enjoyed my companion and my lines of conversation that took us from the dangers of the fires in Australia and California(and how they might imbue some wines with a smoky hue) to the politics of the Iberian peninsula. Wines by Jennifer also has an outstanding little menu of very fresh charcuterie and cheeses as well as a home made fresh loaf of French baguette that comes with a garlic butter dipping sauce. A majority of the cheeses are made from local Missouri artisans from around the state and boy — were they great! I’d recommend the Havarti with horseradish and a mild cheddar with notes of truffle. I understand they have quite the festival in October for which I might return, I could tell from just the tasting I can trust Jennifer and her intimate choices for her customers(BTW they also offer wine tours worldwide which they host — I bet those are a blast).

Been going for years. Cute little place. A great place to do a wine tasting and share a bottle & appetizer! Walk down the street to Café De Amis after for the best French food in the KC area. Jennifer and Don are welcoming, educational and approachable. Each room in the house is a different country with a great wine selection. The tasting room has limited seating but there is a surprising amount of seating through the entire place and outdoors. Their appetizers are limited but delicious. We have never had a bad experience.

We’ve been steady patrons of Jennifer’s for several years; always enjoying our tastings and introducing new friends to the experience. However, the past few tastings have been less than satisfactory. I can understand 1 time. maybe 2 times… but not a 3rd time… last night we scheduled a surprise birthday party with a wine tasting for 9. We arrived at 6:30pm and were soon joined by our guests. Our tasting was in the upstairs France region room which is one of my favorites. The tasting host was a young man that has conducted tastings before. He didn’t really get into explaining anything about the selected wines other than what was on the written menu. He hurried through the first two selections and then announced he was leaving for the night?!? … right in the middle of a tasting… really? His replacement came up about 5 minutes later and announced that he was the ‘B’ team and then hurriedly served the next selection without so much as a comment about the wine or its origination… and he overlooked telling us that there was a substitution on the list due to the selected varietal being out of stock. the final selections were served in a very casual and unfriendly manner. Upon check out, we were told that due to the size of the group, a 15% gratuity was automatically added. This was really bothersome as we didn’t feel that the servers provided an experience that deserved a tip of that amount. We typically buy several wines each time we go, but last night we left empty handed and I believe that it will be some time before returning. Everyone of the 7 new people we introduced to Jennifer’s left with a less than satisfied impression due to the treatment, attitude and lack of attention provided. We had dinner at Café des Amis and it was an excellent experience. The next tasting we do will be there instead of Jennifer’s.

This is probably the most delightful wine bar you will ever encounter. A friend and I stopped in impulsively on a Thursday, late afternoon, as we drove down the street because the stores here are in cute Victorian cottages, and this one had very attractive signage. Street parking was not a problem. A handsome young man gave us a brief introduction to the layout and the countries that were represented in their wine selections. Each room had wine from designated countries as well as a table or two to sit at and enjoy a shared bottle or flights. Downstairs houses an art gallery with seating as well. We were fortunate enough to have a(dry) seat outside, and each had a couple glasses of wine, me a red blend(merlot/cab), he, a reisling, and although it was a cloudy afternoon, the young man also took initiative to turn on the outside lights and turn on the romantic trickling fountain as we sat under a thick growth of grape vines. As were leaving, the tables were filling up and the atmosphere became nicely animated I can’t wait to come back here and spend more time. I could see having a gathering of friends or family here for fun and celebrations.

I’ve lived in Parkville on and off since 2007 and I was never aware of this neat location. I had a personal wine tasting that included the owners and it was absolutely great and informative. They were very nice and helpful. I even purchased a wine glass. The cheese and fruit tray was soooooooo delicious! The best I’ve ever had. I will be taking my girlfriend’s and going back for a girls night out!

I love this place. Why? It is KIDFRIENDLY. I was roped into babysitting for a colleague for 12 hours and that was about 10 hours longer than I have ever babysat before. Not that I am anti kids but… I took them to the zoo, I took them to McDonalds and still had several hours to go before their parents returned. The family lives in Parkville and while I was driving up Main St I saw the sign in front of Wines by Jennifer*. A glass of wine was really in order. The kids had their fun. Now it was my turn. This place is very unique in the way it is a wine shop and a wine bar at the same time. Additionally, it is in an old house with several different relaxing spaces to enjoy their wine. They offer wines by the glass and you drink them anywhere. The staff was very nice but they didn’t seem very educated on the different wines. That was fine as they were very accommodating to my situation(kids running around). I was able to sit and enjoy a glass of Moscato in silence as the kids explored every room. It was almost like a museum for them as each room represents a different wine region of the world. To boot they also have a gallery of art in the basement. I didn’t see it myself as the staff was watching the kids as I relaxed. Apart from the lack of sophisticated wine knowledge, I totally recommend this to all tired and exasperated parents. *It seems they want to franchise but I don’t understand how this name is going to work unless your name is Jennifer.

Fun place for a girls night. They have a room for wines by country, do wine tastings, have bottle service, and several intimate seating areas. Cute place!

Amazing atmosphere to walk around and enjoy wine, beer and food in 3 floors and a wine garden. These people really get it. I can do my own thing in an unpretentious, no-pressure, cultured environment. I love this place!

Lovely! Had a wonderful time here. Such a hidden gem in Parkville. I just took off one star because the nice employee(I won’t out her by name but not the owners!) knew zilch about wine. She was in charge of our tasting and I don’t know if it was her first day or what, but she read the descriptions straight off the page, terribly botched the names, and couldn’t answer any questions. However! I will be back because if you love wine, this is your place!!!

I rave about wines by Jennifer like Jennifer is my best friend, but she kinda is because I am obsessed with her darling little business and what they are doing there. They are located in Parkville(the cutest little town eva) in a beautiful Victorian-esq 100 year old house. You can come in and enjoy a wine tasting that is a different theme every week. I come every month to do a tasting before I get my hair done down the street. Over this time I have gotten to know Jennifer and her husband Don and they are just fabulous, warm people. Don lead one of the tastings I went to and the guy is so personable and a wealth of wine knowledge. I will say not all the people that lead the tasting are at his level, which sometimes leaves me wanting more wine knowledge but overall it is a great spot to learn about wine or continue your knowledge. They have a feature appetizer and a you can do other little apps including cheese. Most of the cheeses are hard, you won’t find Brie or a slice of Gorgonzola but they have a great variety and nothing takes me to my happy place like wine and cheese. Explore the house, they have hidden knooks and crannies everywhere filled with local art, jewelry, handmade items– so I love that local aspect. The outside patio is absolutely charming, with a canopy of grape wines and twinkly lights over bistro tables. Every time I come here I leave having met great people and tried awesome wine. A must go date spot, followed by dinner at Café Des Amis down the road! Wining!

This place is located on Main Street in an old house and is so adorable! The wine list is great and I’ve heard wonderful things about the wine club. Tastings are fun, if not a little pricey, but a great place to go on a date or out with girlfriends. There are lots of seating areas and intimate settings — definitely worth a visit.

A unique gem! I love this place! The couple of workers are super friendly and knowledgeable. The wines by the glass are my goto choice. Also try the cheese/jam plates(these change but are quite tasty). The house itself is super cute and fun!

Wines by Jennifer is a wonderful and just amazing place to do a wine tasting or spend some time enjoying a bottle(s) of wine with friends. We had the pleasure of doing a wine tasting on Wednesday evening. From the moment we entered their location we were just really impressed. The person who lead our tasting, Christopher, was really nice and extremely knowledgable. We enjoyed some flatbread and cheese as a snack while we tasted some Northwestern Wines. Before we left we had one more glass each and toured the space. There is a great basement that has a lot of great artwork, a patio that has a really amazing view, and a wine garden that I hope to try out during the day the next time we visit. Overall, Wines by Jennifer was a great experience and we are already starting to plan a day trip back to enjoy that outdoor wine garden.

How have I avoided reviewing WbJ? It’s not because they’re not worthy. They are. Jennifer and Don run a quality establishment here and they’ve gone to great lengths to provide unique wines, presented with flair. They Respect The Wine. Come by for a tasting, or better yet, get a glass to sit on the porch and watch the day go by. Browse through the house where they’ve arranged each room to represent a wine region. Do not miss the basement. There’s a lot of good art down there so save it until last… …after you’ve had that glass.

The name is not the best of choices, but man, do they know their wine! A great atmosphere, and the wine tastings are so much fun! Go try one! I like the idea of having a few glasses of wine with friends out of the house, and in a nice cozy atmosphere, a great«girls night out» choice. Yummy appetizers too.

I’ve been known to sip a bottle, I mean GLASS, of wine or two, tis true. Although far from a wine snob(I am not knowledgeable enough beyond, «is it an Italian red? Fab… is it a Montepulciano or Sangiovese?), I like my grown-up grape juice. It’s truly one of life’s little decadent pleasures to share a bottle or two of wine along with a platter of cheese, fruit, nuts and crackers in lieu of a more sensible dinner. My prescription to cure a stressful week. Kansas City needs more wine bars. There are only two(correct me if I’m wrong: JP Wine Bar and Boozefish) in the Metro area. Time to head up to Parkville! Wine’s by Jennifer offers a stellar wine sipping experience, and is as good as it gets as far as environment goes(you can sit in one of several rooms outfitted according to region and there is a lounge downstairs for larger groups). The environment is really quaint(it’s in a small cottage on Main Street. Honestly, I was expecting George Baily to be running by at any moment) and the staff is welcoming, friendly and informative. Although I’d consider Wines by Jennifer more than a wine store, it’s not quite a wine bar, either, considering how early it closes. This has me wondering how they’d fare if they held later hours and pushed more of a wine bar experience, something like La Buvette in Omaha. When I return, I’d probably stick to ordering a glass of wine instead of doing the tasting($ 12, which is a bit steep, considering that you can find free wine tastings elsewhere… then again that is usually not in environments are lovely as this one). A tasting gives you 3 whites and 3 reds. This is not a flight or even close(the wine bottles have measured pours that equal about one sip), so if that’s what you’re expecting, you will be dissatisfied(I wasn’t expecting this, but I can see how others might). There’s an array of cheeses, meats, fruit, nuts, crackers and sweets that you can order to accompany your wine, too. These items are available wrapped for purchase in one of the front rooms of the house. I can definitely see the allure of having such a place close to home to stop in and stock for holiday gatherings you’re hosting or attending.
