The Whale Raw Bar & Fish House

I decided to try out The Whale today, as I had a coupon for $ 5 off. I had the grilled tuna sandwich with fries. The sandwich was mediocre at best. There was nothing exciting about the bun, and the tuna came in a few pieces placed on the bun, instead of a solid piece of tuna steak. It looked and tasted like it could have been frozen. At this point, I would have given the restaurant 3 stars, but the fries were so undercooked, I couldn’t even eat them. They were literally hot/​rawish strips of hard potato. If you can’t even get the fries right… I won’t be back!

BBQ sauce is really ketchup on the ribs. Veggies from a can and the mahi sandwich was cold. Maybe its a bar pretending to be a restaurant? Taking this one off the list for sure.

Sad to see this place fall to what it has become. Food was undercooked and sent back. Server did not ask if I wanted something else instead. It seemed like there was a lot of confusion behind the bar and kitchen. Orders were slow to come out and not correct. Could have been an off night but I don’t think so. Just my humble opinion.

The food might of have ok if the server brought the condiment & toppings for the sides. Poor organization. No checking on table & bad attitude.

Rumor is this place sold. Rough night last night. Food cold, service poor. Staff doing what they could with what they had. That I’ll give them.
Usually this is place is better. Must have been an off night.

False advertising for the lobster roll, it is supposed to be lobster-​not 3 pieces of lobster & shrimp and cartilage from the lobster claw (and I don’t know for sure, but it looked like some of the fake crab also). Around $ 24. for 2-​OUTRAGOUSLY overpriced! I will not return to give them the chance to rip me off again.

I don’t live anywhere near this restaurant but went on dining coupon I purchased because it sounded good; I wish it were closer to my house. The restaurant itself is in a strip shopping center but the atmosphere inside is that of a sea shanty and rather nice. We were highly impressed with the food and friendly service. I took my mother for lunch and we had the conch chowder, fried ipswitch clams, and the cobb salad. The conch chowder was good and spicy especially after I added tobasco and was quite good. My only complaint was the large pieces of green pepper in the soup which should have been diced. Not many South Florida restaurants serve fresh fried ipswitch clams and these were expertly prepared and served with very good tartar and cocktail sauces that tasted house made. The clams are served with house made chips. The cobb salad was excellent, loaded with avocado, bacon, hard boiled egg, red onion, and tomato and so big it could easily be shared. We ordered it with the house made honey mustard dressing which is delicious. We were there on a weekday for lunch and it was not very busy; I am not sure what happens other times. The Whale is out of the way for me but I will definitely return. We had a wonderful experience at The Whale Raw Bar & Fish House.

Had the snow crabs and whale fries, which are my favorites. Food was good but couldn’t really enjoy everything with the chaos of Mother’s Day and only two servers trying to handle the entire restaurant. Our server was horribly frazzled with all the tables she was trying to manage and needless to say, our experience was not great at all. To top it off, I purchased a Unilocal deal for $ 10 for $ 20 dollars worth of food and they only gave me $ 10 off and marked the certificate redeemed! My husband paid and I didn’t realize it until we left so I called and they said come back and we’ll give you a certificate for another $ 10. Seriously will think twice before returning even for $ 10!

This was my second visit. The server at that time was the only one and was over whelmed. Food was okay so we tried it again,
Upon our second visit dinner came out burnt and in piece meal…
The service was terrible. The server tonight was cold and NEVER came back to the table other than to drop the check on the table without us even being asked if there was anything else we wanted.
I don’t know if we will be back!

First time, last time. Fingerprints on the front & back door. Ordered doz raw clams & doz raw oysters. Menu said it may take a little longer on the weekend for them to be shucked. Took a very long time & the tray of ice they served it on was melted so the clams & oysters were floating in water. Lobster bisque said it had chunks of lobster, no chunks or anything that looked like lobster, not even served hot. Waitress did not introduce herself & came by infrequently. Ordered onion crisps with our crab legs & had to send them back because they were soggy. We ate in a seafood restaurant in Valdosta, Georgia last night that was 100 times better. People don’t waste your hard earned $ like we did. There is no good reason to eat here unless you like poor service & lousy food. Doesn’t even deserve 1 star.

I’ve heard about this place from a friend. she said «if you want the best seafood in parkland, go to the whale «(seafood lover). I went in on a weekday. Wendsday night. I did not feel like having to wait a long time for my food. The food seemed a little expensive so I thought, I might as well get something worth the price. I was hoping there was more to choose from on the menu. I was in the mood for some salmon. The server was very nice and respecfull witch was a plus. I ordered the «go nuts «salmon dinner. I thought I would give it a try. There’s talk about the «go nuts «and «killer whale «styles, For any type of fish! Definitely a must try if your into seafood! I waited about 10 minutes for my dinner witch is definitely a reasonable time. I asked the server if she could ask the cook for a medium well salmon. (I’m very picky). She said OK. The «go nuts «topping was perfectly baked on top my medium well salmon with a type of lemon butter cream on top. The salmon was perfectly cooked! Right to my expectations!
Very delicious! With sides of garlic mash and sauteed veggies with garlic. So delicous! Definitely awesome meal. If you stop in I recommend the «go nuts «or «killer whale «toppings on any selection of fish! Great place! The food was phenomenal also secondly a filling plate! I will return to this place. Best seafood in parkland!

The peel and eat shrimp were of good size, quality and flavor. Ordered the Mahi sandwich and it was excellent. Great piece of fish! I wish they had a larger draft beer selection. I will return.

Very causual and relaxed, the best lobster roll we have had in years!, The Unilocal coupon was a challenge but the manager made it right. The key lime was also very good. We will return and hopefully they with have the bisque. But we will be back.

Our fav go to place for girls night out, date night or just because! Was there last night with 17 girls for my birthday & Nikki served our whole group with no help & was spot on! Food, drinks & service always perfect!

The first time I went to this spot I really didn’t care for the food. The calamari was pretty bland, and the service was just ok. HOWEVER, I decided to give it a second chance the other night.
I ordered the chicken meal and got it killer whale style, it was REALLY tasty! I liked that the crust wasn’t too much, not overwhelming so I still was able to taste the chicken. It came with steamed veggies and a yummy side of smashed potatoes. The order was a carry out, so I wasn’t expecting a heaping amount of food, but I was wrong! Seriously I had enough food to share!
I am glad I gave this spot another chance. The food I got was really tasty and I will be returning again to dine in!

Cool local place for insane portions of fish. Considering duffys and brus room are right across the road there’s no reason not to eat here instead, if what u want is good food and don’t care about the sports aspect. Not very easy to find though. It has a patio so the pups can come. we havent done that yet. Service was promt and our server was very nice.

We had a great lunch at the raw bar. We could see our food being prepared for us and the service was superb. You have to try the Rock Shrimps! This is now my favourite seafood place in Deerfield Beach by far.

Some of the reviews I’ve read on Unilocal don’t do this place justice. I have yet to find a better alfredo… whalefredo FTW.
I’ve been nothing but pleased with the food and service at this establishment.

Really good. Food was beyond our expectations. Ellie our server /​bartender was super friendly and checked on us various times. Loaded whale fries were different but would order again loved them. My fiancée had the shrimp po-​boy. The shrimp were huge. Good portions. Glad we discovered this place.

New to the neighborhood was less than a mile from my house read good things about the place it was near empty when I got there service was terrible I want oysters, I ordered them never got them the clam chowder was like a thick salty stew terrible Stone Crabs did not taste fresh would not recommend this place to anyone

Been hesitant to try this place since we had a couple of terrible experiences before new owners took over. Last night wanted to stay local and casual so I read a few recent reviews and decided to give it a shot.
We arrived at 5:30 which was happy hour (my favorite time of day). Half price well drinks, discounted beer and wine. First star given :)
Our server was great. I asked her what the whale chips were which made her realize it was our first time in — she actually was sweet enough to bring us a small sampling of them with their «whale juice» which was a sweet mayo/​honey mustard like dip. And the chips were awesome! Second star :)
They have a board which lists the daily market price of the seafood on their menu which is extremely smart. Some of the pricing I found to be a little high at first glance but the quality of the seafood was surprisingly fresh and delicious.
I had a dozen clams on the half shell which were ice cold and fresh albeit a little on the small side but it is hard to compare Florida clams to New York clams which is what I’m accustomed to. I then had the ½ lb of snow crab legs ($ 22). They were perfectly cooked, came right out of the shell and delicious. I would’ve expected for the price that it come with a side of something — whale chips or a baked potato maybe? Either way it was good.
Hubby had a philly chicken sandwich. There’s not much on the menu for him since he’s not a fish eater — more casual fare for him like sandwiches, wings or tacos. We normally would’ve gotten an appetizer but the non seafood appetizers were mozzarella sticks or chicken quesadilla.
Drinks were good and service was prompt and courteous — we will be back!

What a hidden gem. This place has fresher seafood than the beach. I dont mind a 20 minute drive to the Whale because it is worth it. The raw bar sampler is the best!

This place used to be a favorite of mine, but it’s really gone down hill. The last time we were in, the person who I assume was the owner was rudely beliterating the staff while drinking at the bar. Food time was slow and service sucked. Apparently their manager had just gone on leave and they used the excuse they were still adjusting.
We visited this weekend with another couple. Service was slow again. The waitress was polite, but gave the feeling that she didn’t want to be there. Food was horrible. Fish was definitely frizen, even tho they claimed it was fresh. My bun was burnt, along with the lettuce garnish. My husbands reuban looked like it was slopped together and thrown on the plate. The whale fries were soaked in grease. The only thing that was good was the cold soda our server forgot to refill. Dissapointing to say the least. If we want fresh seafood we will be heading east from now on.

I’ve been here a couple of time for lunch and The Whale never failed me. My lunch fare usually doesn’t include raw oysters or large seafood dishes, so i couldn’t tell you how fresh the seafood is. But from my experience with their seafood sandwiches (Mahi Mahi Reuben, Po Boy, and more), I’ve had a satisfying lunch every time! …But perhaps I come here just for the crispy, delicious whale chips with whale juice and the entrees are just a bonus! Lol
Tip: Happy hour from 3pm-​6pm with very cheap house wines and domestic beers

I had a seafood craving and was supremely disappointed. I came in with a friend and was enticed by a
gift certificate (which was another ordeal which I’ll spare you the details)
We ordered the Ultimate Seafood Platter for Two. Almost 90 minutes later we received a plate of friend, greasy shrimp and fish sticks that looked like they were fresh from Walmart’s freezer. Market Price btw for Deep Freeze Season is $ 44.99.

Friday night! This place rocks! Full bar all bases taken ! Of course it’ll take a little longer for everything, I’ve been to many restaurants on Fridays and Saturdays ! If you want quick food and drinks? Go to McDonalds or somewhere that’s empty!
The SoFla way for dining is between 6 pm to 7 pm everyone will come at the same time and everyone orders and wants their food and drinks right away!
This place really try to do their best!
Problems occurs and things happens.
Don’t understand that some can be so mean that almost 15 employees have been fired due to bad reviews.

Where to start… I called ahead to determine if reservation was needed. The hostess said there was no wait. I advised we were about 20min out and he remained adamant that no reservations were necessary. When we arrived we were put on a 20min wait which turned into 36min.
The loaded Whale fries were anything but. These fries were barely topped with the advertised awesome extras. We sent em back for a do over and they gave a little extra effort but then the chips were soggy.
Our ticket time on our food was well over an hour. My Oysters Rockefeller came out undercooked. My wife’s fish and chips were average.
All and all, I’d pass on this joint.

Solid 3.5 stars. So many mixed reviews here. Decided to check out the whale bar after seeing it on FB. Reminds me of The Whales Rib in Deerfield with «whale fries» and license plates on the wall.
We started off with the whale fries, they were pretty good.
For the meal I ordered a fried mahi sandwich with French fries. The girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich, she wanted lobster mac n cheese but it was crossed out on the menu. The mahi came out fresh and had a nice crispy batter. The girl also enjoyed her chicken.
I’ll have to come back and give it another shot.

We love this place! Other than the fact my online reservation was never confirmed, our experience was perfect! After I didn’t get a confirmation via email, I called and was given a reservation right away.
Being a creature of habit, I had to get the lobster rolls, and my friend did also, based on my recommendation! They are SUPERB! Light, not too much mayo, so fresh and delicious! My husband loves the fish tacos, and our other friend loved his grouper sandwich.
Of course we had to start with a double order of whale fries, and our request for extra sauce was met with a smile. Our server was EXCELLENT! Friendly, attentive and professional.

This used to be my favorite casual restaurant. It’s changed owners a couple times and service has really gone down hill. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered them. My husband’s beer was flat and the waitress didn’t even notice. When he pointed it out, there was no apology. No one seems to care. She got him a bottled beer and didn’t offer a glass. The owner seems to just sit around and chat with his friends. Very disappointing.

I love supporting local businesses/​restaurants (small mom and pop shops) over the chain restaurants you can find anywhere and everywhere. This is one such gem.
Moms and I went last night b/​c it’s located in Parkland which happens to be the land of Parks, kidding. It happens to be conveniently located b/​w my work and her house and we both felt like seafood (see-​food). Moms got there a little before me and thankfully told me it’s located off the street a bit right next to a coal fire pizza place, with those directions I was more easily able to locate it.
The first thing I noticed is they have a large outside eating area that over looks some fountains, sadly it was bitterly cold in Florida that evening (in the 50’s) so we were forced to thaw out inside. But it’s a good thing for me to remember next time I want to eat outside.
We sat down and my inner goddess did a jump for joy when she spied La Crema Pinot Noir on the menu ($ 10/​glass & $ 36 for the bottle-​not too bad). But sadly, when the waitress finally came over (she was alittle slow with the greeting part) she said they were out of it #boo. So, I ordered a Bloody Mary instead (why on earth it’s dinner time?) Answer: it had a shrimp and I was hungry. It was very tasty. Done
On to the food… Moms gets all excited b/​c they have an oyster po’ boy and she really loves oysters. I’m undecided on what I want to eat, fish?, snow crabs? I dunno everything is Market Price (MP) and there’s no board up saying what’s in, what’s not, and what the prices are. I hate this to be honest. I hate having to ask «what’s the price on the Grouper, the snow crabs, the scallops, etc?» it makes me feel cheap, but really pricing sometimes steers my decision if I presume it’s a ‘good deal’ or good value for my money.
Moms orders the oyster ‘po boy… and the waitress shakes her head «no», they don’t have oysters b/​c the ones they got were «bad» and they had to send them back. Would’ve been nice if maybe there was a BOARD that said –we are out of La Crema (insert sad face), we are out of oysters (double sad face), scallops are $ 20, a pound of snow crab is $ 43.99, Grouper is $ 21.99, wouldn’t it? Now, I noticed one of the other reviewers mentioned this same phenomenon with the oysters so I don’t know if it’s common or they just have a bad supplier???
Anyhow, Moms orders the scallops «whale style» with veggies and mashed potatoes. With that order finally accomplished, I ask prices (grrr)and decide on the Mahi Mahi «whale style’ which the waitress is in totally shaking her head ‘Yes’ as I’m ordering as it’s the ‘best’. Well that’s reassuring… and she wasn’t lying. Perhaps based on the motif I thought it was going to be like American Grille — Landlubbers style esq, but boy were we in for a treat! The fish was amazing! HUGE piece of fish, covered in this Ritz cracker (maybe?), herbed, buttered stuffing/​bread crumb, smattering of joy is what I will call it, with small shrimp on it. OH LORD, it was good. Even the veggies were amazing, I ordered double veggies. Big pieces of carrot cooked to perfection, string beans, covered with some roasted corn bits. #fatgirlclap
Mom and I were both shocked how good our meals were. So, we are both definitely going back, the food was 5 Star, they just have to add some finishing touches to get this place up over the hump.

In Parkland for an appointment right before dinner, we stumbled upon The Whale, a bar with above average seafood selections. We all started our meals with salads. The men loved their Caesars. My garden salad was nothing special but fresh.
For an entrée I had the Asian Yellowfin Tuna ($ 19.95). The fish itself was fresh & prepared exactly medium as I asked. It was just encrusted with way too many sesame seeds for me and I really did not taste much Asian flavoring. It would have taste much better with some of the sauce from the Asian veggies that accompanied it. They were pretty tasty! The jasmine rice side was also very good.
Husband had the Snow Crab Legs (11b/​$ 24). These were fair & not served very hot. 9 year old had Grilled Mahi Sliders ($ 11.95). He really like them. Kids meals were reasonable and 10 year old enjoyed his chicken nuggets.
On the night we were there a singer performed & she was pretty good! Kudos to our server who kindly tried to occupy our kids with a drawing contest!
Overall, a good option for reasonably priced seafood in the Parkland area. Would not go out of my way to come here but would stop by if in the area to try different seafood options.
